Picking up the trash in each liberated spot was like a fine chef touch that added so much culture and subtle background to his character. He believed in things being tidy and ordered and that's what he was ultimately fighting for hoping that it would one day return. Even in the compound doing the trade, it's not his trash but he's bending down and picking up their trash for them and doing it proudly showing he's not groveling or being submissive but displaying his integrity for all to see. Id really like to recommend Danger Close, its an Australian movie about Vietnam. It tells the story of the Battle of Long Tan where a company sized element of Australian infantry fought off a battalion sized element of North Vietnamese troops. Its a good movie, that taught me (admittedly a civie) a lot.
I worked with the Iraqi Army (Sunni in Al Anbar and Shiites in Basra) between 2007-2008. So I wasn't exactly thrilled when a lot of them started ending up in mass graves after we left and ISIS started rolling through. It was almost like our mini version of August 2021 for Afghanistan veterans (I was never in Afghanistan). The ending of this movie really got to me, so I never revisited it after I saw it the first time.
Two great clues to this ending. One, at the beginning when the new guy said "if he was married he would not be there and Walah went after him, it was because he hasn't seen his family in a couple of years. And, it's why the Major made him decide if they were going to take the compound, because his family was located there. This is one of the grittiest war movies I have ever seen and the realism is unmatched. If it was made in English it would have received many more awards and made a larger impact. However, it would have taken away from the raw feeling and atmosphere.
This movie was fantastic. I loved that it told a story that didn’t involve any westerners. It was an Iraqi story, and the mindsets and tactics were realistic to how they fought ISIS. I read up on the Nineveh swat team and they really did help retake Mosul and suffered heavy casualties. The story in the movie is based on the truth that a number of members of the team were indeed trying to find their lost family as they cleared Mosul, although there was no rambo lone wolf mission to do so. They fought with russian small arms and what ever they could scavenge. They hung with much better equipped military units, with whom they could not share resources because as portrayed, other units used nato ammo and not russian. Yeah, I could go on and on about this movie. It’s great!
Hey! Glad you guys came around to this one! Knew you would love it! The friendly fire incident strangely did it for me. No dramatic music, no slow motion, it was over before you realize it was happening and then it is time to move on. The drone was really cool, the infantry periscope as well and also the mouse trap detonator. If you want more recommendations Elite Squad (aka Tropa de Elite) and the Escape from Tarkov series are pretty gnarly.
Another badass "foreign language film" (even though it's American and a majority of it is in English) is The Beast (or Beasts of War) from 1988. About the last stages of the Soviet War in Afghanistan. There's a similar gritty feel to it, and there's that whole element of local fighters fighting in their homeland. Nobody ever mentions this movie, but it's top tier IMO.
This film blew me away. It was gritty, and there wasn't any "heroic" scenes like in American cinema. The commander died from the most mundane action, just like that, dead. And that's how it would be. There are no main characters in real life, people just die out of nowhere, for no understandable reason. I like that they didn't have him die like some hero, it really shows the true nature and horror and utter chaos of war. The scenes with the commander picking up the trash was a nice touch. To me, it was because not only was it his country, but one day they need to rebuild. He says that several times. What are they fighting for if not to take back their country, and rebuild from all the destruction. Him cleaning up is like doing his part to rebuild Iraq. The ending was brilliant, I have a daughter, and the end definitely had me tearing up.
Yeah the way it isn’t over the top stupid or overplayed it’s quick and painful sometimes and even showing the reality of things such as friendly fire and traps taking away people so quickly
I also don't normally enjoy reading while watching movies, but this film was just so good that I didn't realize I did any reading even after it was over. Rarely do I see a script work so well, characters so beautifully written, and a decent moral conclusion to finish it off.
Was just reading some random article from reddit about how different units "clear" buildings. They said army always go as teams, but seals sometimes do multiple rooms simultaneously as individuals. Interesting seeing you talk about it in the video.
Don’t know if they mention it (I have to get back to work from lunch), but in terms of how close the unit is, they all call their leader baba (بابا) which means dad in Arabic, just goes to show the respect and love they have for their commander.
Great review. My Dad is a Marine grunt who served three tours in Vietnam (mainly '69) with 2 purple hearts (shot in arm and leg). He said the only action scene that reminded him of Vietnam was the street battle in "Heat". I haven't asked him about this one. Anyway, thanks for ur service.
I've watched every movie you've reviewed on this channel previous to the review. This is the first movie I've never watched or heard of, thanks for bringing this movie to my attention. Much appreciated for the recommendation and as always the content/review.
I watched this movie after reading an article on Task & Purpose. Was awesome. Such a good movie, and really eye-opening on what people from there had to deal with. Can't even imagine having to save my wife from a sex slave camp, or having to clear my own neighbourhood of dudes that wanna behead me. Fuck...
Excellent job guys the commentary was a blast! Gritty is a good way of putting it Mosul has some really nice unpredictable chaotic combat scenes without the (hollywood glorification) and the budget & training was surprisingly great. Would love to see a Mosul 2. As a viewer finding the humor in situations that wouldn’t necessarily be considered funny was realistic also. Can’t say enough good about this one.
I’m glad you guys reviewed this movie. When I watched it it really pulled me in which at first I didn’t think it would. You guys are awesome and I’m glad you guys agree on the quality of this story telling. Also more than any of the other Hollywood type movies this felt more like a real story rather than a bunch of empty flash. 👍
Someone should do a video on the LRPs aka LRRPs of Vietnam. These guys deserve some attention, most have never heard of these teams. Not much about them online, one needs to read some books to get a good understanding of what these guys did. They were not strictly reconnaissance which is a common misconception. Would be really cool for someone to put together a well researched video about them. They deserve it, would make a lot of aging vets happy. My father was a LRP 67-68.

Genuinely loved watching “Mosul”; the action was well thought out and complemented the plot whilst seeing how a different culture of allied fighters are portrayed in an attempt to save their families and preserve their war torn country. Great film which was laden with kinetic fury, sadness and pathos.
The scene about the kids. I don't think they're pulling their father, those toes were painted. I assume the family was pulling the dead mother but the father got killed along the way (close-up shot of the blood stained handle), he made the boys promise to bury their mother before he dead.
This is a top 10 war movie without any doubt. If you got time check out blood makes the grass grow. He is a kurd that was in the Norwegian army. He now has his own clothing line specifically built for war theater . It's Norarm tactical. Great guy and is currently helping Ukraine.

Fun facts, but the film was actually directed by an American screenwriter and produced by Russo Brothers (Avengers Infinity War and End Game). The reason why it was in foreign language was to help capture the authenticity and cultures. Also, the Major in the film was also in The Hurt Locker, portraying the innocent Iraqi who was strapped with a bomb vest at the end of the film.

After 14 months down there suffice to say we were definitely done.
Sorry you are wrong on PETN. I was an officer in the Germany Army Armored Engineers trained to the second highest level in our armed forces in demolitions. After that comes only EOD. We use PETN for most regular demo work. Like crates of that stuff. You can cut it up just like C4, you can mash it, throw it, hit it, form it. Nothing will cause it to detonate, other than a blasting cap, which are made of TNT in the Bundeswehr. It is not unstable at all. It is our "C4". The other explosive with less explosive force we use (at least in the engineers) is regular TNT, that either comes in 100g (if I remember right) sticks or pre-manufactured cutting charges. We just calculate differently with PETN since it has such a high rate of detonation. Love your reviews guys. Greetz from Germany. And funny side note: I actually lived in Huntsville, AL from '97 till '03. Finished High school there and went to college there for a year.

It’s great!
You guys should give “The Raid” a shot, really fun action flick with some fantastic fight scenes
True, great martial arts movie as well.
Hell yeah! I love that movie!
Escape from tarkov
I first saw this movie when on chemo with nothing else to do. I've probably rewatched it at least 3-4 times it's so good.
It’s so good, hope you are doing well
@@FNGACADEMY Definitely. Thank you brother & yes I've been back on duty for almost 2yrs with 5 clean scans.
@@patronsaintofswitchbladefi2944 hell yeah dude! Great to hear!
I saw this movie about a year ago and actually found it more realistic than some of the American war movies.
Its an american movie too. But with an all Iraqi cast
Funny thing is it is an American war movie 🤣
To me, the ending of Mosul is very hard hitting. Going through hell to find each team member’s family.
I'm so glad u guys decided to watch this one. I recommended it in the comments a couple months ago. I'm glad you guys liked it
Great review.
Mosul is soo good. I’ve watched it many times for some reason it never gets old
Saw the posting, got 35 seconds in, paused and watched Mosul. Great movie, awesome review
There was recently a story from Ukraine about a soldier who liberated his home town and went home to see his mom. The town is called Kozacha.
Hands down my favorite reaction from you guys. This film is so underrated. Not enough gets mentioned about those battle-hardened units from overseas.
I had the same misgivings too! But when I watched it, I was amazed! Need to rewatch!
this movie wasn't available on stream in my country (for reasons) and i had to track it down by other means. no regrets going thru the hassle. badass movie. its also one of the best war movies i watched the past 10 years.
The Black Humvees are so sick though
This movie is probably one of my favorites. Love it
I love the crossbones logo they were sporting, that was hardcore 😂 Also was that my boy Yaz from Extraction?
You guys slowly have me going through a rabbit hole of action movies, watching The Gray Man now. Great content guys!
Thanks man!
Love the content as always.
Wanna drop The Outpost, how the whole COP Keating thing went down. 10 minutes in and they got so much of it right
I love it when you guys get so passionate about the movies!!! It's awesome!!
What is/was your favorite fixed blade? I’m just a civilian who’s “passionate” about knife customizing and collecting. I want to know what y’all actually like to use! TOPS is by far my favorite brand! Plus, a Gerber Strongarm and Becker BK2. I like trying different knives on my camping/bushcrafting trips.
I has to pause beer and breakdowns to head over to Netflix and watch Mosul. Absolutely bad ass movie. Subtitles didn't mean poop. I was hooked in the opening scene. Very intense movie. Finished it and then headed back to FNG to give a thumbs up and comment. Great review guys!!!
You guys NEED to watch Raid: The Redemption. The fight scenes are siiick
This has definitely become one of my favorite RUclips shows in a long time, but I would like to request Blood in Blood out 😊😊
Great episode boys! Keep up the good work.
This film was never on my radar but it moves to the top of the list now. Thanks guys.
Genuinely loved watching “Mosul”; the action was well thought out and complemented the plot whilst seeing how a different culture of allied fighters are portrayed in an attempt to save their families and preserve their war torn country. Great film which was laden with kinetic fury, sadness and pathos.
I watched this movie just yesterday because you said it was good in your last Beers and Breakdowns. I really enjoyed it! Glad it was still on Netflix
He now has his own clothing line specifically built for war theater
. It's Norarm tactical. Great guy and is currently helping Ukraine.
If you guys are down for another foreign movie, check out Elite Squad. It's about Brazilian special operations police in Rio cleaning up prior to the Pope's visit.
THANK YOU FOR DOING THIS REQQUEST .. THIS MOVIE GAVE ME A PERSPECTIVE FROM THE INSIDE N HOW THE MEN FIGHTING BACK WHAT THEY WERE GOING THROUGH TO FREE THEIR FAMILIES FROM TALIBAN
24:35, Also makes it harder/less likely for each team member to have definite fire superiority in their respective areas
This is a Netflix movie. Surprisingly very well done for a Middle Eastern production. Best War movie I've seen in a long time
This was one of the best Foreign language film's I've ever seen.
This was a bad ass movie! Thanks for this one Boyz!
you bet bro!
@@FNGACADEMY how can be a ranger right out of high school?
@@emmanuelawosusi2365 Check out "General Discharge".
Damn this is probably the first time I really wished I had Netflix, just seeing the scenes showed in this video makes me want to see this movie real bad. That first scene yall started with goes fucking hard
@@apokalypstapes don't mind at all but I don't have a VPN and learned real quick that my internet provider watches. My brother has a VPN and has hundreds of movies on his plex server so I'll have to see if he might be willing to get it for me thanks for the info
my guys, yall are on a roll with these videos! I remember watching this movie, hardcore but soo good.
I can recommend a movie calld, Den 12. man (The 12. Man) its a Norwegian movie about a WW2 sabotage mission that went south. Its also based on a true story! Love what you guys do here. Keep it coming, youre doing great!!
You guys should react to Battle Los Angeles. Which is a guilty pleasure movie of mine. Even though the screenplay isn’t as great as it could have been. Still a good action film though. Lol
on it!
@@FNGACADEMY Yeah man it’s got a couple of great actors in it such as Aaron Eckhart and Michelle Rodriguez. They play Army soldiers who fight aliens. It’s based on a real event where the military in like the thirties or forties fired round after round into the air at UFO’s in our air space. lol
Hey
How’s going Buck?
Have you seen Elite Squad ( Tropa de Elite )
It kind of shows the story of a Special Police Unjt BOPE and the beginning of the career of two Officers.
I highly recommend.
The worse thing about war in the middle east is the lack of uniform regarding the enemy , the hostile purposely dress like civilians , its so cowardly , and makes me so anxious
I was in school with the big lad from the Iraqi SWAT team you can see on the right at 4:29, he’s from Wales in the UK 🏴🇬🇧
I’ve watched tens if not hundreds of war related movies or series’. This goes to my top 3 easily
What is this movie about?
Fighting in Iraq. That’s all you need to know. Anything more will ruin it. WATCJ IT!
I did the same thing, I saw I would have to read and didn’t feel like it. But after you guys giving it props I actually sat down and watched it.
Just throwing this out there... "Taegukgi" is a great film about the Korean War filmed in 2005 I believe. Y'all should do a Beers n Breakdown on that film
Korean cinema is awesome. Northern Limit Line is awesome as well.
Great review! Buck do you think you , Kurt, and Andy could do a video on how you trained foreign troops. Looking forward to more videos.
Hey Guys, I`m a big fan of the Channel. Recently I watched a video ranking the top 5 special ops movies and they ranked Elite Squad (Brazilian Movie) in first (I know, better than Lone Survivor). Though we might not agree on the ranking, it would be awesome and I would really appreciate if you could Breakdown Elite Squad (Tropa de Elite in Portuguese). I think you guys will really enjoy this movie. Thanks!!!!
I know it’s not a movie, but can you guys do episode breakdowns of Band of Brothers??
sure can
Thx for recommend, watching now.
Essayons!
This movie was awesome. I was in Mosul and all over Northern Iraq/Kurdistan from 06’-08’ and worked with a lot of these dudes.
Watched this a couple months ago and really enjoyed. The subtitles are a little tough at first but overall excellent movie. Cool to know you guys enjoyed it. Also didn’t know the ATF had that course in my hometown.
Half an hour just flew… I also loved that movie. It was sharp without any bs…
Thanks for posting this, I'd not even heard of this; I need to check it out. When you said "Foot stomping moment", that was the funniest thing you said (that's one of those 'only someone who has served will get it' things). I'd never heard of this movie before and I need to watch it, I agree that it sure LOOKED decent
Was waiting for you guys to do this one. Love it!!
Deff gonna watch it … can’t wait to see the next breakdown !
Didn't know about the movie. Found it on Amazon Prime. Thanks for the recommend.
In my infantry platoon we lost 4 guys on our first mission. That left us with 18 dudes left in an already drawn out platoon down in Kandahar in 09. We used to have to clear rooms by ourselves all the fuckin time. Even once we got replacements our platoon got up to around 30 guys, and that was multiple waves.
Be interested to see your take on a classic film: Pork Chop Hill
If you guys liked Mosul you’ll like Lone of Control. Its a Bollywood war movie about the Kashmir conflict between India and Pakistan in the late 90s.
Also please do John Bernthal’s Punisher, its on Disney+ now.
You guys should check out “Escape from Tarkov” made by battle state. By far one of the best “combat accurate film I’ve seen. Very similar to Mosul in my opinion.
That was gritty
Awesome breakdown, could you guys watch Three Kings and the Equalizer 1&2?
sure can
This movie was super badass! I remember it the same way... eh I don't really wanna read a war movie... ok I'll watch it today i guess. 🤯
Ayyyy I love everything y’all do with these beers and breakdowns y’all should do a whole dedicated series of each episode of the series called SIX it’s from the history channel there’s two seasons and I’m curious on y’all’s take on it and y’all should also do an in depth review of the movies apocalypse now and platoon that would be hella dope maybe Kelly’s hero’s or hacksaw ridge but yeah keep doing what y’all do it’s hella dope
Any idea where I can find this? All I kept getting was various documentaries. Thanks for the review, outstanding as always
"WHAT'S UP GUYS"

@@FNGACADEMY My liver seems to think so too lol. Sober October just started a month earlier this year for me. Gotta exercise that will power. Loving this series gentlemen.
12:41 The only moment close to that I’ve ever seen was in Ghost Recon Alpha the live action movie for the video game Ghost Recon Future Soldier, the same kind of question comes up; “Who are you?” “Tell him we’re fucking salesmen”.
I was in Mosul 06-07 and I loved this movie!
Thank you for recommending this one. Really good movie. Just before the final clearing with his family he was shaking like crazy, and we still did not know it was his family, at first I thought it was because he was now the leader and it was too much. I loved that. And the part with the bartering with Iranian SF, they were essentially doing Green Beret style mission right? training locals for their own little militia. And the argument between him and the commander of swat over the prisoner was so loaded with history and each side nationalism/patriotism. And the dud RPG was like such "aw fuck" moment especially when you realize he gave up their hookah for it lol.
More movie suggestions: 1) SISU, 2) Enemy at the Gates, 3) Behind Enemy Lines
PETN is in Det cord. PETN is also in many of the bigger high end ordinance.
Based off your assessment; I’m going to check MOSUL out!😊
Agree 1 of the very best war movies. awards should be handled out
