      I have not but I think I'm going two get a pair of golden age project R1 MK2 ribbons @ $179 a piece They are a very affordable way to get into it and all the reviews say they are pretty darn good.

      I loved this. I have 12 ribbons at the studio, including an R44 and a pair of R84s. Seeing that N22 in action and hearing the 5A was so nice, especially in this context.

      The n22 was the surprise for me. I’m the KU5a turns heads for sure. But I didn’t find anything I didn’t like the n22 on

    Wow - a great introduction to a band I've never heard before. Taking some time to check them out. 👍 I'm so stoked to hear the release of this track.
    I think their drummer smashes cymbals too hard... but that's me - I'm opinionated about drums (I could go on and on). Dynamics, baby - as the percussionist, you control the entire space and dynamics are key.

    I'm not of the "dUh, xyz isn't metal mor0n" folks, but I think putting metal in title of this video is misleading, mainly because recording an actual metal band (growl vocals, distorted chuggy guitars, blast-beats/double kick drums) with ribbons would be a whole another challenge. Because of that even though it's a wonderful video I feel a bit underwhelmed that it's not what it claimed to be. Still enjoyed it, just not as much as I would if I haven't been teased with metal in the title

    • @RecordingStudioLoser

      That’s what this was. Double kick. Screams. Thrash parts. Breakdowns. I realize my editor picked out choruses a lot. But it’s a heavy band.

    I have an R92 that I use all over the place. It's my go-to kick out mic, actually. I can't wait until I can justify/afford picking up a KU5A, though. And I'd love to get an R-10 to have around as well.

    Do you not colour-grade your footage? It can add a good hour or two to your workflow but I think is always worthwhile, especially with the high-quality image you're capturing with whatever video equipment you're using.

      Yes. Everything is slog 3 . So if it wasn’t it would look horrible.

    Dude I've used 3 57s and a pair of $200 overheads and got a pro mix. Ic choice is something that can get in the way of creativity. Same as preamp choice etc etc. if it sounds good it sounds good

    a metal/rock drummer with no kick port?! egads! sounds good, will you do a mixing video on these tracks? did you eq much while tracking? I know it's a huge part of production these days but I always cringe a little when people record rock to a click, you lose so much feel and character.

  • @sickmessiah

    Toms sound great. Kick n snare are meh. But impressive with mic selection. I think that mic on kick would be a great replacement for a sun kick mic.

      i feel like i could have done it if I have 7 N22s. It was fun to work in these constraints though

  • @mrcoatsworth429
    @mrcoatsworth429 Год назад +1

    3:49 could you have tried it without the reso head on the kick? A lot of bands have recorded that way. You probably would have gotten a lot more attack out of it.
    But in any case, kick sounds absolutely awesome the way you did it 🤘

    • @RecordingStudioLoser
      @RecordingStudioLoser  Год назад +3

      That’s what I wanted to do. Drummer was Leary. If we hadn’t landed where we did yeah I would’ve ripped that reso off

  • @wokeupinapanic

    Sounds great, but as someone that listens to like grindcore and math metal, this is barely even an indie rock sound… like Cursive sounds heavier than this, and I’d get laughed out of the room if I called them metal lol
    This is giving more “Stone Temple Pilots minus the flanger” vibes than metal, but I mean 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
