"Proceeds to never post another video again"
Genius move by Dacre Montgomery to tell the writers that Billy needed a backstory to fit with his brutality.
i know because this scene alone didn't have me routing for him. S3 did tho, because in this scene his dad didn't lose his temper until he said "she's not my sister" whereas billy's dad showed his true colours in s3, he's a control freak and punishes billy if he's not perfect for him rather than respect him as a individual. Then he abuses max's mam when he died.
@@safcjoe7062when do we see billys father abusing Max? I dont recall one single scene.
@xmcddddd I meant Susan not Max (Max's mother).

You can just see how much Billy folds in front of his parents. The way he talks to everyone else vs the way he talks to his father.
no shit...
And this is what Max’s mom is all depressed over losing?! She should be relieved!
Fr
You didn’t lie
Given Max’s fate by the end of Season 4. I wouldn’t be so sure
I guess she didn’t care as long as she and her daughter weren’t the ones getting abused.
Max's mom is a mess and an unreliable loser. Knows what an abusive POS her husband is but doesn't leave him and does nothing but watch the abuse. Once he leaves her, she becomes an alcoholic mess.
0:40 Billy has a point tho. Parents call anything “disrespect” nowadays
The tipping point was Billy telling his dad that Max wasn't his sister
Billy was a brat
@@ohhelloyouno Neil was an abusive father to Billy
I find it interesting that Dacre Montgomery asked to have a seen with Billy and his dad to show why Billy is the way he is. He said that no one is a bad person for no reason they have to have something going on in their life that is making them the way they are.
Wrong. Some people are naturally evil
@@masterofreality5528 Yes, full blown sociopaths, but that's also a technically a reason. He's just talking about the majority of people.
Which I disagree with. Humans are wolves, always have been and always will be. I'm not a Christian but I agree with the premise described as original sin, which to me is just the self destructive nature of man & woman. A person must be raised to do right, otherwise self preservation + self thriving is their only concern, this is also true with most animals in nature. That's the world I see. I see enough of what evil people can commit amongst eachother. Toddlers and kids are pure at heart thus being quite cruel. I disagree with the notion people are good in nature and must be taught to be bad, I think the opposite is true. This is 1 scene in a fictional piece for entertainment. This is not real life, though I'd agree Billy takes it out on everyone else how his father is raising him, that's all the context you have. His father doesn't seem to be a drunk, a family man. I'd need more context on Billy growing up, he could just be naturally a wolf which he displays through the show. It's no excuse. An individual chooses how they carry themselves and how they treat others, only through responsibilities & discipline will one choose to make a better choice than Billy has made.
People carry fault to their own individual actions, I refuse the notion that everything is a reflection of others' actions. Billy can choose not to be a jagoff.
@masterofreality5528 agreed. And not all crime is based on economics. Many gangsters simply feel alive with purpose being someone that controls the fears of others around them. Some people just want to be a gangster, living on the edge.
I really, REALLY HATE TO ADMIT THIS but I relate with Billy more than any other character in Stranger Things. The oppression and brutality of a domineering force in your life, telling you how to act, telling you what your priorities are, telling you what matters in your life, telling you what you need to do to appease them, and the fact hes expected to accept this and with respect.... thats what bothers me most about this scene hes to respect someone who has ZERO respect for him as an individual.... like christ this hit way too close to home
This is exactly how I feel as well 😔 you're not alone. The worst part is i also feel mean, not as bad as billy is mind you but I have a reputation. My parents didn't mean to do this but I've learned from them and the world that the only way I can get people's respect is through making them be afraid of how I'll react to disrespect(even though I probably wouldn't do much) . I don't want to be a bastard but I really don't know what else I can do.
A lot of people fall victim to this and ur not alone it’s okay
@@herlocksholmes6477 I understand, people see friendliness as sign of weakness especially if you hardly know each other.
Yes same here. The unloving and toxic parents!
Yeah man discipline and respect has no place in todays society, it's now a boomer thing
Billys dad even scared me tbh. It's a recurring generational cycle of toxic role models, Neil probably had a toxic dad growing up and did the same thing to him, and now Neil has passed on his toxic upbringing and values to his son and ex-wife, and now Billy is doing the same thing to Max and her friends, passing on the toxic trauma torch on.
Or billy is a little shit. As bad as the dad may be he is no better.

@@GayTheaterNerdandSPN he might go for both
I know a (50 year old) man who had a father exactly like this. He behaved just like Billy did when he was younger. He still has a lot of very serious problems even now. This is terrible parenting, and it is very accurate story writing.
This is why he’s my comfort character not for his actions just his trauma
Idk how max's mom could stomach being with a man that abuses his own son like that. Not only would i be disgusted id be afraid my daughter and I were next some time down the line.
Ik, it’s so irritating
You should ask my mom
I think that is the reason why they separated and you have seen the video how she was also terrified what he did to billy. I think she said nothing because billy might not be the only one which he would hit and she knows that
He was being a brat and got told of cry more
But the man doesn't abuse Max, he just disciplines Billy. You have it backwards. You just made up that part of the story about the mom leaving because of abuse.
Billy playing Metallica? Absolute win
Guy has taste🤘🏼 we need him to be back in next season
@Joshua 1992 1v1 fight? Fair and square,Billy.Jonathan would give him a hard time though
NO ITS MY WIN
Poor Billy, I relate to him, and I wish he had more screen time. I love his character and actor. He is the best character in the show, and he should have gotten episodes of him being able to leave his abusive household and hanging out with Max. I love Billy.
Billy ain't perfect but man am I the only one who wanted to see Hopper beat the crap out of his dad?!
Yes I would like to see Hopper beat up Neil because he deserves it after what he did to Billy and his mother that caused her to abandon him
I like how when Billy’s dad says he’s gonna cancel the date billy clearly is upset by it but doesn’t say anything out of fear

I feel like the people who hate Billy are people who’ve never had to deal with this type of toxic abuse from a dominating male force. That shit will turn you into a straight up asshole so I can relate to Billy a lot. It’s not an excuse but it is a reason.
People who hate him are chronically online simpletons and their only cope is “you like him because he’s attractive” rhetoric
neil is such a terrible person, at first, i hated billy, bc he absolutely treated max like crap and i love max but i didn’t realize billys past with his father and divorced parents, etc. he deserves better, and he would be such an amazing person if he had a good father figure, agree or disagree with me but its true. and anyone in the comments saying neil was right to do this to billy is wrong, he had no right to especially bc hes that way bc of him.
I'm surprised Billy didn't kill Neil when he was possessed. Should've been the first person to kill.
Yeah I mean I hated Billy until I released that his dad was a wanker and some dads are like that to their sons
Remind me so much of John Bender from Breakfast Club.
Billy was a racist who deserved to die
@@abangemirzaihanabangzulkip9502Judd goes hard tho....
Dacre is great in this scene but so is the guy playing his dad. That sounded real
Is not Billy's responsibility I will be immediately looking for my daughter.
@Joshua 1992 I think his true heart was reveaked after seeing his mom in the memories. Maybe he was reminded the love she gave him and realized that he wanted to do something good because of who he really was due to be constabtly abused by his dad. Many abused children become bullies themselves. But I am not sure.
Actually while the parents were gone the older sibling is usually in charge to watch the younger one and Billy failed and was disrespecting his dad and his step mom.
@@Stormertheboy stfu he had been looking after he all week, if she wants to run off that's her problem alright? She's 13 years old and she shouldn't need a full time babysitter.
@@Stormertheboy Actually, no. It’s true that is the case in most families, for me as well, but Billy shoulders too much responsibility. He has to drive Max everywhere, look out for her, look after himself… their parents are literally out all day and leaving this little girl with a very unstable angry teenage boy. It’s not good for either of them, because both are at a fragile state since they moved and are children of divorce.
I think both of the parents should do better.
@@Stormertheboy Exactly and thats why he got slapped. He basically said yeah I was suppose to watch her but fuck it she's not my sister anyway. I don't understand why Max grieves for him in season 4 when he didn't care if she was alive or dead. In this scene he was more concerned about going on a date lol.
Earlier Stranger Things seasons felt more real
ye later seasons are too tropey, they need less characters tbh
Yea they went with full gender role reversal and toxic masculinity topics. Some of the writers just wanted to lecture us in Season 3 instead of letting us see the magic of the 80s.
I actually sympathize with Billy way more than I do with Max. She knows he gets in trouble when she does stuff like secretly running off yet she keeps doing it anyway. And her mom knows that Neil threatens/beats Billy over it yet doesn’t do anything either. I get the impression that the Mayfields aren’t very nice unless it affects or suits them.
(Yes, he’s an ass and there really is no excuse for some of his decisions but his abusive jackass of a dad is the root of his problem and Billy wasn’t always like this as we saw. So yeah, I sympathize with him more.)
I don't like Max's mom at all. She knows her husband is an abusive POS but stays with him anyways and does nothing but watch the abuse. And once he divorces her, she becomes an alcoholic mess and moves into a trailer. She's an unreliable person and I would not want to be close to her.
@Joshua 1992 Billy sacrificed himself to save El from the Flayer. (And she very conveniently was powerless then so she couldn’t resurrect him like she did with Max)
You can't blame a 13 year old kid for wanting to get out of that abusive household as much as possible. I sympathise with Billy, because his father is awful, but you can't blame Max for the way the father treats Billy.
@@Niobesnuppa I certainly don’t blame her for wanting to get out of that house, no. Even when she can pretty much do no wrong in terms of Neil’s treatment of her. (From the looks of it)
But I can definitely blame her for doing things like sneaking out when she knows Billy will get in trouble for it, even stuff that has nothing to do with him. So that argument they had about whose fault it was that they had to move? I’m betting it was Max’s actions that somehow were blamed on Billy instead.
Honestly, I see why she went the route she did to stop him in the Byers house because he was enraged and out of control, but I also believe she learned to do that from seeing Neil treat his son like that. There’s no way she can be that oblivious about what goes on in her house.
@@Omega1867 I think Max is conflicted. She clearly hates Billy’s dad and is probably confused as to why her mother stays with him.
And yes she knows Billy gets in trouble and is abused by his father if she sneaks out. But I don’t know if she knows the true extent. Like obviously she knows her stepdad is abusive. But Billy would always be on guard around Max and despite his actions, I think he largely shields Max from his father. Despite what he says, he does seem to want to protect her. It’s just that he doesn’t know how to do that in a healthy manner.
And his domineering and controlling attitude towards Max causes her to resent him. So she acts out in order to get him into trouble. It’s probably more of a coping mechanism and her way of reclaiming power. Not saying that to excuse her actions. Just that there’s probably a lot more going on than simple selfishness or Max just being a douche. She is still reacting to a rather abusive environment at the end of the day. And that can manifest in many ways. She probably felt a lot of guilt after he died. Hindsight is 20/20, after all
I mean, I knew a kid in school who acted just like Billy. He wasn't scared of anything, but when it comes to his dad, it was a whole different story. I don't blame him or Billy for acting that way in life.
I know from experience it quite literally makes you feel like your losing your mind
"Nothing about his behaviour is ok", really dude!!
Poor Billy , his dad abused him through his whole life and forced him to babysite Max everyday while he was out with Susan instead of staying home and taking care of Max themeselfs.
Bro I feel so bad for him. He’s such a jerk because of his father.
If Neil actually tried to throw hands then Billy would absolutely rock his shit tbh 💀😭
Yeah physically but he's been treated like that his own life he probably still sees his dad the same way he saw back when he was young
Yeah but its his dad would you throw hands with your dad if he put hands on you probably not
@@filpejee9689 Hell yeah
Billy is the classic villain who’s broken played beautifully
I can understand both Billy’s dad and Billy. I get that Billy’s dad found a new woman and married her and Billy should be nicer to her and her daughter (Max) but I also understand Billy that it is hard to replace your mom with a new woman
Billy's dad, is the reason why the mom left in the first place!
Billy’s dad is an abusive asshole. He hurt those around him he was supposed to protect. He is not a man. He only fought against those he knew couldn’t fight back.
He’s a fucking coward.
A man protects his family. A man protects the weak. Billy’s father is a disgrace

Bros argument would’ve been valid and then he threw it away w “she’s not my sister”💀
Tbf if he didn’t said that his dad wouldn’t have got so angry
But she is not his sister, it is not his responsibility. She has a mom who can’t look at her all the week and he did, he is not her mom, it is good for nothing Susan. Not because he is the “older brother” has to look for the younger sibling all the time, so why a person became a parent if they can’t do shit?
@@johnpark7972 nah cos billy quoted his dad "respect and responsibility" so he still would've made sure billy was "disciplined" even tho he shouldn't have to find his 13 year old sister. Neil has no respect for billy at all.
@@safcjoe7062 its called parenting bro...real or not, max is his family now and as an older brother he should search for her
@@harvester0fs0uls she shouldn't need a full time babysitter as he said, he had no idea she ran off and he was looking after her all week but the thing is she's her own person capable of making her own decisions. Billy's argument was valid but Neil was waiting for him to give him an excuse to hit him. Gotta realise that billy was abused every day for most of his life because his dad has a temper, nd i agree his argument was valid until he emotionally spat them words out but that's due to his trauma, if he didn't get abused previously for unjustified reasons, i'm sure billy would've said "don't worry i'll go and find her" but if we look at s3, his mother abandoned him and he got punished for max running off. He gets punished for Max's actions, if he stands up for his dad, billy fears what his dad would do to max which explains his behaviour towards her throughout s2.
Poor billy bro I love that boy sm
I freaking hate Billy’s dad
The question is, who doesn't?
@@johnpark7972 facts
@@johnpark7972 Billy Terrifies his sister and some how Billy is the victim when his dad looking after his sister which Billy is not? Wow. You people must have daddy issues.
Maybe in an alternate reality, Billy decides to leave his abusive father and make it on his own. Max tries to get her stepbrother to come home but he can’t take his dad’s crap anymore. Max’s mother says to Neil that she wants to divorce him because he’s a bad parent to Billy and doesn’t want Max to be around a toxic person like him. Neil doesn’t put a fight and leaves Hawkins. Soon after Billy comes back home and starts helping Max’s mom out, plus has a better relationship with them both.
If the video quality was better, you could see Billy crying after Neil left.
Awww poor baby 😂😂😂
@@andrewdwyer6462what? 😭
I know a lot of people on here are sympathizing with Billy as the "victim" here, but try to put it in the perspective of the father: It's the 1980's, kids are being kidnapped left and right, they come home to find their child GONE, and the bedroom window OPEN. Now, WE know why this has occurred, because we saw her leave....her parents have ZERO idea. And the person who WAS supposed to be watching her, and the person they entrusted her well being with.....absolutely failed. And to add insult to injury...he doesn't really seem to care or be that concerned. So I am actually 100% on the side of the angry father.....in THIS particular scene.
Bro it was his own father and besides he said it himself"been watching her for weeks"and Max was a kid,he always run from Billy so even if he watch her all day,She would still leave secretly and he grow up from an abusive father and unlovable mother so I'm not shocked if he act like a villain
Billy’s dad is the real villain here…
But Im surprised Billy didn’t just snap and whoop his deadbeat dad’s ass tbh, he would deserve it. Although here I think his dad is just much more stronger
You can't just beat gour dads ass, you owe him more than he owes you
It really upsets me Billy as a whole character was completely wasted. I was very interested to know more about his relationship with his father.. But then I realized Stranger Things isn’t about abusive relationship problems with your parents… So why did they even give this awareness to his character?? They never went back to it and they killed him off…… his emotional backstory should’ve came from Billy himself. NOT THROUGH L’s Eye….
I think they had some screen time to pad out and did this because the actor of Neil wanted to. But yeah you can see where they decided to cut these character moments. In S4 the bully guy literally doesn’t have a character he’s just a jock
For Billy's dispecable behaivor Neil has been behind this the whole entire time
Yeah. This hit home.
no wonder billy was so irrational when he was looking for max because this is what he had to go through if he didnt get the job dine and then when steve get in his way and interfere he couldnt control himself and almost killed him
Neil: No it’s not okay, nothing about his behavior is okay.

I feel so sorry for billy. His dad is an asshole
Imagine if Max died in season 3 instead of Billy. Not saying this should happen. Just a little "what if" scenario like what Marvel does. Imagine if Max pushed Billy out of the way before he was killed and the Flayed Monster killed her. He would hold her in his arms and crying saying "I'm sorry".
With everyone thinking she died in a fire at the mall, Billy would've been yelled at by his father in a much more crazy way than here.
Neil: You were supposed to protect her!
Billy: I tried to save her--
Neil: And you failed! You were supposed to be her brother! You were supposed to care for her!
(Neil hits Billy)
Neil: What did we talk about?! Huh?! Remember responsibility?! So her death is your fault! Now tell Susan you're sorry!
(Billy walks over to Susan. He can't help but cry as he speaks to her)
Billy: I'm so sorry. I tried. I was trying to protect Max and her friends. I'm so so sorry.

Neil: Don't try to stop me! Billy needs to be taught a lesson! His actions led to a serious consequence! This is the worst thing he has ever done!
(Neil hits Billy with the belt)
Neil: This is what you get!
(Neil tries to hit Billy again, but Billy grabs the belt. Billy doesn't look sad anymore. He looks pissed)
Neil: Let go!
Billy: No.
Neil: What did you say?
Billy: I said no!
(Billy pulls the belt away from Neil)
Neil: Give me back my belt, you--
(Billy hits Neil with the belt across the face causing him to fall to the floor)
Billy: YOU are going to listen to ME! You are not going to hurt me or Susan. And you are leaving.
Neil: What?
Billy: You are going to pack all of your shit and you are going to leave tonight. Not tomorrow. Tonight.
Neil: How dare you--
(Billy whips the belt in front of Neil causing him to flinch)
Billy: Shut up! I'm talking!
Neil: Where do you think you and I are gonna go after we leave?!
Billy: I said YOU are leaving! I didn't say I was going to be coming with you! You are going to leave Hawkins! I don't care where you go! But you better not go back to Mom! Because if you do, I will go all the way back to California and find you!
Neil: I'm your father! You can't tell me what to do!
Billy: I'm 18! I'm old enough to make my own decisions! And I'm deciding to stay here in Hawkins to help Susan out! She may not be my real mother, but I am not going to let her stay broken like this! So I am staying here with her and help her out! I will get another job if I have to other than being a lifeguard to help her pay the bills! And I'm also staying here to help out Max's friends with the pain they're going through right now! I'm doing this so I can actually be a good brother for Max even when she's gone! I am doing this! And that's final!
(Neil stares, speechless. Susan is even touched to hear this.)
Billy: Now... get off your ass, pack your shit, and get the fuck out of here.
(Neil packs everything, signs divorce papers, and leaves Hawkins)

First of all, it's all Neil's fault for brutality beating Billy and forcing him to take care of Max rather than letting her go by herself on her own. Rather than canceling his date, they should have found Max in the first place rather than forcing him to find her. I agree. The parents trusted Billy and he let them down, then acted like it wasn't a big deal. While I don't condone Neil actually hitting Billy, he had every right to be pissed at his son's dismissive attitude.
Wrong he is despicable cause he hit his ex-wife & abused Billy when he was young

Billy now I understand I'm sorry SERIOUSLY being parental bullied not ok!!! Tried to hang in there with bullying 😔 😪.
If maxx would have protected billy just once im sure he would have seen her in a different light.
You should read the book ‘runaway max’ she did
Bruh any military brat can relate..XD
The novel Runaway Max makes Neil out to be a 1950’s conservative and his authoritarian attitude towards his family proves that
HOW IS HIS MOM GONNA WATCH HER OWN SON GET PUNCHED BY HIS FATHER?
Billy obviously a bully, cause his military ( Army? Marine?) step father, institutes, honor, respect, discipline, and spirit, and responsibility; and this jackhole refuses, thus why he gets violently abused; Stepfather will demonstrate discipline, to those who act out of line. ( it’s his own fault)
But racism isn’t an excuse, and to attack Lucas, is wayyy out of line. So no I don’t feel bad for him - or Jason.
And yes it does “ bother” me.
In a show I ❤❤❤❤
Huh? I hope you're not saying that the stepfather is in the right, because Billy was obviously raised very WRONG. Billy is a bully, and obviously could have done with a better parental figure. His stepfather's "discipline" (which it's not even so, it's just plain abuse) has led Billy to become just like him
His dad made him that way he's a jerk also 😥 its all his dad's fault
I get the feeling that he wasn’t abusive to Susan or Max. Like he held them up in some sort of way.
Because maybe he loves Susan and he knows if he hurts Max she will leave him
Yes, because he takes out his anger on Billy. He is his emotional punching bag. Billy takes the blame for everything in the house. Everything. Small things. Big things. He gets punished for Max's actions, for Susan's actions, for his DAD's actions, for everything. Read Runaway Max and you'll see. That's why Billy is always on edge - he walks on eggshels at home because he never knows when the next blow is gonna come. Neil is such a piece of shit. God, I love Billy so much. He deserved better ! He truly truly did !
