Justin Portillo It’s because he’s not an aggressive character, despite his tough guy persona. He clearly has better reflexes than both Johnathan and Billy, but he has a tendency to dodge, put one hit in, then not follow up.
not in this fight scene, but when he fights the demogorgan thing, he instantly ducks under it's clawing attempt and hits back with his bat. Also in the fight scene with billy he dodges quickly
I'm just glad Steve wasn't hanging out with that group of kids in Season 2. That doesn't mean Billy might not become the new group leader in Season 3, especially considering the fact that the short, red-headed girl stupidly liked him the moment she saw him when he made his first appearance.

Angelo Scarberry at 1:54, his problem is that he got way too cocky and then Jonathan landed a shot that dazed him, then immediately another one that dropped him. If he played it smart and avoided that one, then landed another himself (like how he had him rocked right before that), he probably could’ve won that. Lol poor Steve and his lack of keeping his guard up 😂
Well he never defeated the Demogorgon and smashed the military dude's head in with a phone. Also, Steve probably never had a real fight before fighting Jonathan and was caught off-guard. Billy on the other hand had to fight for himself all his life and was physically way beyond Steve. In real life strength is subjective, it all comes down to the moment, even if you are way more experienced, your opponent could get lucky, or you could just have a bad day.
BADWOLF he did defeat the demogorgon not by himself but he did defeat it, and he was on the winning side of the fight with billy before billy grabbed the plate🤷🏾♂️, also it’s a military man he should’ve been more aware then to let a regular boy hit him with a phone, and u say in real life but it’s not this is a show bud
BADWOLF he dodged the demogorgons claw at point blank range while the lights were flickering, but loses to johnathan after dodging and counter his first punch😑, the writers simply did Steve bogus af
Not really, if uve ever been punched in the face u don't tend to give a shit what's going on around u, ull push people, tables, chairs, anything outta ur way to just to get at them. U see red. At least that's how it's always been for me.
Season 1 was probably one of the few perfect seasons of television I’ve seen, 2 and 3 had its own problems and 4 is cool as fuck but also has a few problems
I always loved him, except for this scene, where I wanted to stab him with a knife, for disrespecting Nancy, who he should know, wouldn’t do anything to hurt him like cheating, and for coming after Jonathan’s family.
I never hated him. He's pretty much justified if you look at it from his perspective, although he went too far sometimes like writing "whore Nancy Wheeler" and taunting Johnathan about Will's missing and his dad but that's just because he had the wrong kind of friends around him.
Did anyone else go ballistic at this part?? I mean my adrenaline was pumping when I saw John beating the hell out of Steve! I can't be the only one was so hype.
what a lot of people get wrong about this whole bananza is that the "love" that made Jonathan so "damn stupid" wasn't love for Nancy. He liked her sure, but just before he went crazy steve was talking shit about his family. it was the love for his family.
Ikr! That’s what I was thinking when that women was saying ‘that was out of love’ and stuff but he wouldn’t of done anything if steve hadn’t said all that. Which isn’t a bad thing it’s just he didn’t beat him up for Nancy
Season 1: Learns how to dodge much better from Jonathan Season 2: Learns to use surrounding objects like Billy Season 3: Uses both things he learned to beat the Russian Guard
Some Russian? It was a trained guard. Also he lost against johnathan because he wasn’t trying to hurt him and he was caught off guard by the fight also johnathan was filled with adrenaline and billy won because he smashed a glass Plate over his head. So his losses had reasons behind them and his wins were extremely impressive
No name please stop trying to deffend a character, he WAS trying to hurt johnathan, thats why he was trying to punch him, Johnathan was filled with adrenaline, uhh so was he... And billy is generally just stronger, he works out far more.
You know, Steve really had a chance to walk away even after mentioning Lonnie, who Jonathan obviously hates, and his mom, that would’ve just riled him up, but the moment he mentioned Will… *there was no turning back*
I don’t see why everyone was so surprised that Steve was redeemed. If you really look at his character, he’s in a point in his life where he’s growing out of the bimbos he’s been with before and had really fallen for Nancy. He’s never been hurt before so he doesn’t know how to act when the love of his life seems to be cheating on him. I hated season 1 steve but once he ditches his friends and tries to fix the mess they made, that’s when he became my favorite
right? i just rewatched season 1 for the first time in years and noticed that throughout the whole season from the very beginning, there are many scenes where you can tell he has a big heart and isn’t always trying to be a jerk. like even the fact that he went back to jonathan’s house with the intention of apologizing to him one-on-one after the fight,it shows a lot about his character
+Lydsicles Editsxoxo well theyr both to average joes who think theyre the toughest around like the rest of em. i could kick the ass of the two of them with my old man strength.
Ahh back when steve was such a jerk now he's a single parent taking care of 6 kids Edit: just saw season 3 and i must say, they have a habit of making a character a jerk at first but actually have a tragic past also r.i.p H-Man and Badass B
Season 1: Gets beat up by Johnathan. Season 2: Gets beat up By Billy. Season 3: Beats up a Russian but gets beat up again during interrogation lol. Steve 1-3
they really wrote steve's character so well from the beginning. i remember even as a kid watching this when it came out, i could tell that steve was different from the others. they didn't seem to care much and were just having fun making fun of nancy but steve was actually hurt: you could see it on his face. it really says a lot about his character.
Its really good to see the victim kick the balls out of the bully for once, thats why i like this show, it doesn't constantly put in what you thinks gonna happen and it shakes it up and changes it and puts it in a different direction for a better scene
Dark_Sentinel_USA Billy "we wanted to make iredeemable" ya that's why he had an abusive dad cause that cliched totally isn't run into the ground and also hive mind
I feel like after Steve got some punches from Jonathan, he finally got a wake up call. He learned that his actions had consequences, to realize that other people had feelings, and to push back from being a douche. Steve is a perfect example of good character development.
One year later reply lol. But yeah it's kind of poetic that this is where the turning point for Steve's character began, and completely shifted for the finale with the Demogorgon.
@@jackdeviant2025 Haha yeah, it’s interesting to see when watching older episodes. It’s cool how he went from one of the most hated, to the most beloved. Meddling with the upside down changes you for good.😂
Yeah but Steve had every right to be upset too, his girl said she couldn't hang out with him so when he went to go check up on her he sees another dude in her room comforting her, Steve had every reason to react how he did as well. He did nothing wrong.
@@SSGFlare Yeah I agree that Steve had every right to be upset because if I saw what he saw, I wouldn’t be too thrilled either. However, to say he did nothing wrong is a stretch. Steve could’ve handled the situation way better. This is one of the core moments where he realized that he’s not untouchable and that his actions had consequences. Lmao Steve was an instigator, so he deserved that first punch.😂Luckily now he’s one of my favorite characters, alongside Nancy and Jonathan.
I love that the writers didn't keep Steve as a typical bully throughout the series, his character development arc is probably one of the best things in the series
That line about Will made me see Steve as irredeemable back in Season 1. It's crazy how they managed to turn my most hated character back in Season 1 into my favorite one in Season 2 and 3, big props to the duff brothers
I agree. I love Steve now, but I absolutely despised him because of this scene. Not only what he said about Will, but Joyce, and saying that Jonathan was like his father which was really low considering Lonnie just tried to use Will's death to get money out of it but didn't care that Will died. I would have beat Steve's face in too for saying something that bad.

This scene is always satisfying. Steve was talking so much shit here lol and Jonathan ends up handing it to him. He didn't even stop when the cops arrived
Steve is the definition of character development! He was such an ass in the first season, but from second to third, he’s probably one of the more likable characters ☺️
Rehaan Aamir To me I don’t care how many _“girls he can pull”_ he was kinda self centered back then, he seems way more genuine now and still gets the ladies ;). I respect your opinion though. 👍🏼
I'm glad Jonathan punched some sense into him. I understand that all of Steve's words really hurt him and triggered him to lash out, but Steve realized how much of a jerk he was being to Jonathan and what asshole friends he had. His character development is my favorite and that's why I ship Stonathan so much. Steve didn't think twice about how those words would make Jonathan feel because Steve isn't really loved like that. Steve doesn't have a brother or sister and he doesn't get the family bonds that Jonathan does. This all hits me too hard, they all deserve better. 😤
I think steve became stronger after that crazy fight cuz he got that medicine to become stronger and to become a better man so thats why he beat the demo-dogs
I love how Steve gets his ass handed to him every season, but the Demogorgon and some random Russian soldier. It’s testament that Steve is a protector and not the tough guy he pretends to be.
I love how Steve is one of the characters that has the most development. He was great in season 3 and you can see that he grew to be so much more than a jerk
I love this scene because before this, Johnathan bottles everything up. Like he stops himself from crying about will even even in front of his mom. So he fights with determination and anger. The bullying, the horrible father, the missing brother, and crazy mother. He just lets it all out.
Rewatching this scene I noticed a detail I really like. The longer the fight goes on for, the worse Jonathan’s fighting form gets, and yet the more damage he does. Such a cool thing imo.
That was the moment John humbled who Steve was pretending to be cause of his idiotic friends , and later Dustin brought out who Steve really is on the inside, a weirdo goofball just like the rest of the crew 🖤
I don't know why they reduced Jonathan's screen time in S4 , he is one of the most bravest character (alongwith steve and hopper) i hope we will witness much of him in vol.2 because, He has been one of my fav's till S3
Anyone else notices Jonathans reaction: He walked away although Steve was rude to him, but the second he said: "Your whole family is full of screw ups" he stopped. He doesn't give a shit what Steve thinks of him, but he got mad the second he insulted his mom and brother. His anger got stronger when Steve spoke about Joyce and he looked to the side for a split second, but still he controlled his anger. He really snapped the second Steve said: "I'm not surprised what happened to your brother" Although Jonathan knew that Will might be alive at that point he also knew Steve thinks, Will has died. Steve intentionally spoke about his "dead" brother like that and that's when he had enough. I love these little details. Jonathan never cared about what others thought of him, but he always care how people thought about his mother and brother.
Also notice how Jonathan doesn’t really care what Steve said about Nancy. It seems like he doesn’t care what anyone says unless it’s about his mother and especially his brother. Really sets up Jonathan sacrificing himself for Will. Although I doubt the duffers care about his character outside the shitty love triangle with Nancy and Steve which never mattered in his character
@@Tonycillian5 actually he was already getting a little riled up when Steve told Nancy to go to hell, which is why Flo even suspected that Jonathan was Nancy's boyfriend, but the overall exploding point was him getting compared to his douche bag father and then of course when he insulted will and Joyce
1:13 is really powerful in hindsight. it really showcases steve’s development. he went from making homophobic insults to completely accepting robin, which is a huge improvement. i also wonder if it’s part of the reason jonathan wanted to make sure will knew he loved him no matter what after the van scene? maybe he was remembering this and wanted to make sure will had someone supporting him when the rest of the world (and even their own friend group if he didn’t believe steve changed that much) wouldn’t.
@Paddy Bateman i know, that’s the point. it was still homophobic (and transphobic), even if it was normalized at that time. and the word itself isn’t bad, it’s just not an insult anymore. it’s only bad if someone does try to use it as such. but even then, it’s more the connotation than the word itself.
After seeing the entirety of this series (all the way until Season 3) this really showcases the growth of Steve as a character. How he’s gone from a bully joining with the wrong people, to a hero and a good boyfriend, to a brother figure to the kids and becoming his true self... Dad Steve.
Steve was a character who was hated and then he became loved, he was homophobic here and now his best friend is a lesbian. His character arc is amazing
Crazy how quickly Steve turned around as a character. I was almost _cheering_ when I first saw this scene where it was just so satisfying to see Jonathan finally giving Steve his just deserts; one season later, Steve had become my favourite character and has stayed that way ever since
Dang Jonathan is strong he took 3 at once because he fought Steve than the other guy jumped in to separate them than he beat Steve up than the other guy jumped back in and Jonathan keeper pushing him away and even broke the cops nose and still went on beating up Steve and than got token down
I feel bad for Steve now, but i'm always going to be team Jonathan. He was likeable from the vey begining and still is. Besides he took the worst part at the end of season 2 watching his brother beeing tortured by his own mother. Damm that was hard to watch
We are in the minority. I don't have anything against Steve and his perfect hair. I just like Jonathan more except for that one picture clicking instance. I feel like that was the writer's fault as apart from that incident, he never showed any creepy behaviour. They should have either kept it consistent and made him a proper creep or made him the quiet, brooding type good boy. People hold that one thing against him and Steve got away with all the shit he pulled in s1 by saying sorry and beating the Demogorgon (from the bat that Nancy and Jonathan made. Smh, pretty sells).
Ben101 he’s my favorite character, dude has gone through arguably the most and gets no credit. sticks up for his younger brother and his family went though a lot of shit. will was missing forever and he had to go though that

Hopefully, they will have that in Season 5
I love how everyone went from hating Steve in the first season and now everyone loves him that's pure character development right there
ya
I didn't entirely hate him s1 but he's definitely my favourite character after Billy fight, single mother caregiver, and his bond with Dustin.
Phat Albert I always loved him
I always loved him, except for this scene, where I wanted to stab him with a knife, for disrespecting Nancy, who he should know, wouldn’t do anything to hurt him like cheating, and for coming after Jonathan’s family.

Really well done scene
I was so hyped too, it just gave me that feeling to go in the tv and help johnathon fuck steve up.
what a lot of people get wrong about this whole bananza is that the "love" that made Jonathan so "damn stupid" wasn't love for Nancy.
Noooo... Really. *Sarcasm*
This scene proves that beating the sense into someone works sometimes, this is a turning point in his character

Even when he's being a jerk here, he tells his friend to stay away from the fight, keeping it 1 on 1, which I respected
I felt so proud of Steve when he ditched his friends and became a mom to 7 kids. Yeah, he is my favorite character too. :)
right? i just rewatched season 1 for the first time in years and noticed that throughout the whole season from the very beginning, there are many scenes where you can tell he has a big heart and isn’t always trying to be a jerk. like even the fact that he went back to jonathan’s house with the intention of apologizing to him one-on-one after the fight,it shows a lot about his character

they really wrote steve's character so well from the beginning. i remember even as a kid watching this when it came out, i could tell that steve was different from the others. they didn't seem to care much and were just having fun making fun of nancy but steve was actually hurt: you could see it on his face. it really says a lot about his character.

I love this scene because before this, Johnathan bottles everything up. Like he stops himself from crying about will even even in front of his mom. So he fights with determination and anger. The bullying, the horrible father, the missing brother, and crazy mother. He just lets it all out.
Who’s here after Steve finally won a fight?
Rewatching this scene I noticed a detail I really like. The longer the fight goes on for, the worse Jonathan’s fighting form gets, and yet the more damage he does. Such a cool thing imo.

When Jonathan was punching him I was like Damn. Jonathan should have done that in the first episode
Anyone else notices Jonathans reaction:
He walked away although Steve was rude to him, but the second he said:
"Your whole family is full of screw ups" he stopped. He doesn't give a shit what Steve thinks of him, but he got mad the second he insulted his mom and brother.
His anger got stronger when Steve spoke about Joyce and he looked to the side for a split second, but still he controlled his anger.
He really snapped the second Steve said:
"I'm not surprised what happened to your brother"
Although Jonathan knew that Will might be alive at that point he also knew Steve thinks, Will has died.
I don’t care what you say, but Steve totally deserved that
