    Lest We Forget... Thank you for those words of remembrance to those who have given so much over the decades. As a veteran myself, I was deeply touched by your opening words. Your episode aired here on November 11th which of course is Veterans Day in the US. And it seems very appropriate to remember how our two countries have joined together in times of great need. Again thank you for the sentiment, keep up the great work, and I look forward to all your videos to come. Be safe

    To clean out your diesel tank, drain down 90% of the contents then take off the Vetus multi pipe fitting on the top of the tank. That gives you a 3 inch round hole to feed a wet vacuum pipe in and down to the bottom of the tank. Vacuum out the the dregs and flush with some clean diesel. Second tip, a Warrior is supposed to be a cutter rig. The second foresail gives you so much extra flexibility and additional power up wind.

    Dom, the feelings that flow from your heart to your mouth are respectful, considerate, precious and tender. We should NEVER forget those that went and gave all so we could live as we do today. I pray the generations ahead are taught about the Great Generation. If so, many will reflect as you have on this day.

    What a superb intro- you are a class act. Re the water pump put a wee mirror underneath the pump casting and there should be a witness hole whose purpose is to ‘bear witness’ to a seal failure. You can buy parts to repair or a replacement pump - but if you have deep pockets do both and keep the repaired unit as a spare.
    I do not want to be a smart arse but I posted the following comment to your first experience of this problem (2 months ago+) and it still stands: Quote “Your priority should now be a fuel tank clean (rather than just a ‘polish’). Practically it is a difficult (access), disruptive and smelly job but if you do not do it - it will bite yer arse particularly if you cross the Bay of Biscay when you stand a better than even chance of experiencing more than just bobbing about a wee bit. Anyhoo - well done you should be proud of yourself. BTW knocking up a polishing rig ( see Patrick Laine’s YT channel) is very well worth doing and is a great routine maintenance procedure to keep things sweet - it will not clean snotty detritus from a tank surface though - must clean that tank! 😀👍⛵️Unquote.
    As mentioned by one of the other commenters (David John) - subcontract it to a specialist, it is not a pleasant task.
    You have consistently produced top quality productions - your talents are wasted.😀👍⛵️

    • @CadohaAdventures
      @CadohaAdventures  3 года назад

      Appreciate that, Norman, maybe a spare isn't the worst idea ever. Seeing as it's a Perkins engine (Volvo Penta D2-55) I may see if we can find an aftermarket spare for the fraction of the price that Volvo would want for an 'original part' to have locked away for a rainy day.
      We also never intended to forget about the fuel, and we listened to everyone about how much of a problem this would be and had every intention of it being top of the winter jobs list! 🍻⛵️

    Water leak. Unless you can see it for sure... taste it. I had a persistent issue and 'fixed' loads of issues (engine, hatch, window, faucet) with no success. One day arrived on Aspire which stank to high heaven. The milk spilt in the cooler last time out had got to the bilges through the leaky cooler drain. Wasn't rain water, wasn't coolant, wasn't salty, was cheesy! The 'leak' was actually the bag of ice that we always carried (in case of sprains, bruises etc) and just let drain away as it gradually melted over the weekend. The drain pipe was pretty much inaccessible.

    • @CadohaAdventures

      Everyone always tells us to taste the bilge water, which gives me the shivers just thinking about it, but makes perfect sense when you think about it!

    Nice one guys. Poole is a nice place to be. Moored right next to the IMOCA of Pip Hare which is as we speak on its way around the globe in the Vendee. By now you have been told that your small water leak is from the shaft seals inside the pump. They wear out over time and are a routine maintenance item. My suggestion is to schedule, in advance, a rebuild with a reputable shop along your route.
    And ask if they have or can acquire a rebuilt pump that they will certify.
    Put on the new (to you) pump then pick up the old, rebuilt pump and keep it for the next time.

    I had the same problem with my fuel tank. I solved it by getting a long copper pipe with a jet on the end and connecting it to the output of a fuel transfer pump connect the input of the pump to one or more CAV fuel filters. Connect the input of the fuel filter to your fuel outlet on the tank. Now shove the copper pipe with the jet on the end into the fuel filler pipe, turn on the pump and diesel will flow from the tank, through the filter, through the pump and be jetted back into the tank. Move the jet all around to stir up the crap on the bottom. Change the CAV filter each time it starts to get clogged. Keep going until the filters are clear. It works and you don’t have to empty your tank.

    • @CadohaAdventures
      @CadohaAdventures  3 года назад

      That actually sounds like a great idea! It's tricky to get into both our tanks but we've started making a plan now, just need to wait for lockdown to finish to get started.

    Hi we spoke about the fuel issue some weeks back as I said the problem will persist if no in depth work is done to put it to bed. don't worry there are options to deal with this problem internet search for products, the first job is to remove the crap what is sitting at the base this is the main problem and the first to deal with only then will you find some sealer to match your tank. yes i no this a crap deal but when its complete you will save lots of money on filters and have a good giggle about the time you had fuel problems, or may be not.
    also remember the yacht designer's of that era started with a fuel tank and then built a boat around it. be safe and your both doing great well done. regards Jeff

    Hi Guy's, I am a new subscriber to your VLOG and have seen the issue with your Fuel you need to put your fuel through a "Scrubber" when you refuel each time, also it is good practice to do water sediment drain checks on a regular basis I come for an Aviation Engineering background and Aviation fuel and Diesel are similar as to where they come off at the distillation process in production so they have similar problems. You will find in warmer climates with humidity there will be water problems with it being in suspension and also Bio fungal growth in you tank because of this if you start to see bright orange globule's this is an indication you have "Gladis" growing "Cladosporium Resinae " a Fuel Fungus Is its proper name and you treat it with a Biocide, but you need to have a way of cleaning the fuel as you top your tanks up and carry out water drain checks when the tank has been at rest for a couple of hours not easy in a rough sea

    Fuel polishing companies will clean and renew your fuel. It's a pressure wash of the tank using your fuel and a super-industrial filter. They then put in additives to make the diesel whole again. 30 year old diesel has been renewed successfully.

    Build yourself a fuel polisher. You Tube has some good economic solutions. Agitate the fuel in the tank using compressed air and polish the fuel. Problem solved. No need to remove the tank.

      I built a fuel polisher but unfortunately I had so much gunk it blocked the polisher filters in less than a minute... In the end I bought a wet vac and hoovered up the black stuff stuff from the tank. I used the bits from the fuel polisher to build a duel filter system so if one filter blocks I can quickly turn a valve and switch over to a clean filter

    I had Warrior hull no. 39 1986 vintage. She had only 40 Imperial gallons of fuel and as I wanted to travel on long passages, I converted one of the water tanks to diesel and added another 40 gallon fuel tank under the chart table, giving 100 gallons total capacity. In the space where the original tank was placed, I put a Northern Lights 3.5 Kw generator then installed a water-maker that produced 21 imperial gallons of water in the starboard aft cabin. I then had easy access to inspect the fuel tanks. I hope this will give you food for thought for future possibilities for extended travels. Go well.

    Another great video in content, themes and visuals. As a fellow sailor, I would like to see more on your passage plan (quick map shot?) as there were two significant overfalls/ races to get around: did you go 'inside'. for example. Keep up the good work. Ps fixing the shaft seals on the water pump is said by many to be easy, but I've found it a pain...and managed to scratch the shaft getting the bearings and seals off. I actually purchased a non Volvo replacement pump (Ancor) as it was not that much more than the Volvo full shaft/seal kit....then fix the old one at leisure ( or get an engineer to do it), and you've a back up....only four bolts to remove pump and one for the gear wheel. Easy.

    Thank you - great vlog and very appropriate reminder of Remembrance and sacrifice as we all moan about not being able to go out so much. On the tank/diesel issues - there is only one answer on the south coast - Chris at the Clean Diesel Company. His published number is 07754 717159. They were recommended to me and I have passed their details to many others - they specialise in these tank/diesel problems and are superb - I hope that helps.

    Thank you for not forgetting. Went to the cemetery today to put flowers on the grave of a soldier who was killed at Pearl Harbor. I didn't know him or his family but I could see no one visits his grave. Perhaps all of his family is gone. So, I've adopted him and make sure every holiday there are flowers and today I went to the Veterans and got a new fresh flag. I get really angry when I ask children particularly what today is and all they know is it's a holiday from school. I think Prince Charles said that only 40% of British people know anything of the wars on your soil. Sad. Best to you, Carly and Hank. Love watching your vlogs. Jane, Philadelphia

    I had a similar problem with gunk in the tank, and used my oil change pump (one of those vacuum type, with a long semi-flexible tube) to suck the gunk out of all the corners of the tank. In combo with a “fuel polish” that might do the trick 😀
