I’m in Michigan, not quite warm enough to mow. But instead of snow, we get rain. You’re shoveling, I’m clearing storm drains because the street is flooded. It was a wonderful video. Watching you mow your grass in January makes me smile.

We had temps in the 60s last weekend. I was able to touch up the grass with a manual reel mow and rolled lawn flat since ground was wet. Blew down the lawn very clean and gave it a treatment of some fish fert that I had left over from a garden that I stopped doing. Also applied some of the seaweed/Hume that I bought from your store. believe it or not the lawn is looking great for this time of year here in NJ. Thanks Ryan for all you do.

Try putting down the seed when there is snow on the ground. When the snow melts it is forced into the ground. You can also see where the seed lands. My dad been doing this for 40 years with great results. I do this also on the spots that did not come up in the fall.

Your videos and editing are so peaceful and calming. That probably sounds cheesy. But you're informative and pleasant to watch. As for shoveling or scooping snow, check out the Big Blade. It's not a shovel. It's a sturdy piece of plastic, so simple it's crazy. I FINALLY got to use mine today. It's a game changer. It's not for the snows you have to dig out, but anything up to 6 inches give or take... I didn't even even use my shovel today. 😀

Nice to see this! Thank you for the huge tip regarding the use of Tenacity and not killing of the new seedlings. I am going to “Throw Down” some “Sissy Grass” closer to spring and maintain the weeds with Tenacity.
Do you have a comment regarding the following...
It’s been awhile since I read a Scotts bag of pre-emergent, and I recall the directions indicated that new seed has to have at least 2 mowings. So... Do you think that one would be successful seeding with Sissy (Rye) Grass, mow after 10 days, mow again after 10 days, and let’s say another 10 days. Roughly one month later a pre emergent could be laid down. Your thoughts?
Last Fall, I over seeded with Midnight Bluegrass, and that took seriously 2 months to take root. It was sooooo painfully slow. I planted the Midnight Blue to get a darker green color to dominate and that breed is great for reel mowing, which I do. Watching your vids, and doing some research, RYE GRASS is the deepest darkest, most stripe-able cool season grass of ALL OTHER SPECIES. RIGHT?
Seeing this video, is encouraging me to over-seed this spring and a month or so later put down a half rate of pre-emergent, to be safe. I say half rate because my lawn is soooo thick already, weeds are rarely an issue. Except the crab grass, which I will hit later in the season with Dithiopere (however you spell that) since it has some post emergent ability to kill crab grass. So this year I would be doing the very effective one-two punch as Matt Martin with The Grass Factor has shown, has the highest percentage of kill. Plus, I have never used Dithiopere which is recommended as a change up or rotation of herbicide so that those weeds aren’t immune to the same chemicals year after year.
Long comment, I know. I wanted to ask a few questions and offer some thoughts I have as a Lawn Care FREAK.
Take care Ryan. Come to Utah again soon, it would be way cool to show you my yard and the 5,000 tulips that come up in the spring.
