- So many lawn updates in this one and I also talk about one lawn renovation area that I have not showed before. I put down a 50/50 mix of sissy ryegrass and kentucky bluegrass and did not use any irrigation except for rainfall. We look at a few more updates around the yard as well as another look at the massive project lawn from earlier in the season.

100% bet Ryan is dressing up as Connor Ward for Halloween
I already have tears from LOLing
That's exactly what I was thinking too! Lol
This was the most serious/dramatic intro to a RUclips lawn care video I’ve ever seen. I like it.
I agree, he even changed the aspect ratio to give a movie like feeling this time! I have been watching Ryan for along time now and he is by far the best when it comes to capturing a moment, putting the right music behind it and editing it all together. I am glad to see others appreciate this kind of super hard work to make a video this captivating!
I am not sure what Ryan does for his vocation but he’s a pro at editing and putting out great content
yup yup Ryan at its best
I see your Connor mustache. Don't kid yourself pal!
I would not consider it close to that level
@@ryanknorrlawncare Ha! I just figured it was in the making. Maybe show him that you can grow a better sissy mustache than him? You know, to go along with that sissy rye grass.
Ryan, can you do an experiment on a patch of turf where you just sprinkle the seeds on top and see if they grow? I think that is what most homeowners do.
Welcome to the Midwest! Where we go from crankin the AC to crankin the heat in one week. It was 70 today, we are expecting snow on Saturday. Lol. Ugh. Mow season is closing fast 😩
DIY Dad
I hear ya mow today and snow blow tomorrow!
We got a couple inches a few days ago here in eastern Washington. Most has melted but still some lingering in shaded areas. Was thinking of mowing the snow today.
I’m glad to see your bringing up the overseeding without water topic. We live in are area where we have water restrictions. If we watered daily for 30 days the fines would be exorbitant! I’ve been toying with the idea of putting down a test area of seed when our rainy season starts. It would still be a couple months afterwards where temps will dip into the low 30’s overnight, then back into 50-60 degrees during the day. Your video gives me hope that it might work. It’s tall fescue and we’re cool season in Northern California. Thank you for posting this!
Love it when u make longer videos and never long enough :)
Sissy Rye Grass looks awesome!
We’re using your starter box and WOW our lawn looks amazing so so glad you’ve set it up for us newbies. We have fescue so not getting reel low (sob) but we are now mowing every 3 days and have #lawngoals ❤️ you Ryan! *hope there’s a good reason for that stache!
Glad things are going well in the lawn!
Great job as always. Video production is next level. Nice to see progress n problem/ slow areas. I think the hardest part of lawn care in patience.
Definitely the hardest part is the waiting game
Such an artistic representation of the lawn, great work! Oh, and the grass is looking awesome as usual! 😎
I remember watching your video when you seeded the 3 blue grasses and watching it get washed out, jealous of your rain. I still haven't received any rain. Day 45 with no rain, quit hoarding it all Ryan.
Sorry!
I have 2 zero-G hoses. Best hose ever. Very durable. Easy to handle. You wont regret it.
I swear we are the same person.
I use to be a musician touring in a rock band. Now I’m making videos about my lawn updates Literally because I needed to create something. Pizza roles at 2 AM watching RUclips. Favorite season is Fall. Hoody weather. Be both have eyes. The similarities are crazy.
I'm not gonna lie, this time of year is when I start to not understand why you'd want to live in a colder climate. I'm not even that far south here in South Carolina close to Georgia, but it never really falls below the 60's here. I've even got both a warm season Bermuda front and a cool season, bluegrass/ryegrass blend in the back. I just did my Bermuda overseed as we're down into the high 70's now so I'll be mowing all year.
Winter is the great reset of all things. It gets rid of all the bugs and is something very beneficial in my opinion.
Glad to see the new seeding on your lip is showing some new sprouts.
Oh boy..... are we're going to see another Round 2 beat down on or beloved brother Conner Ward? "As the Grass Grows, these are the days of our lives"⏳❤😁
So many updates. I’m glad to see the large project lawn update! That area isn’t irrigated right? Came out better than I thought.
No irrigation on that so all things considered it's not too bad
I can confirm it can be done without irrigation.... I’ve struggled to water the back of my garden because it is 400 feet from the 1st par of my lawn up to 800 feet to the back.
I’ve not watered it and thankfully it rained on and off everyday or other day and so far it looks pretty good. It’s roughly 9000 sq feet of new lawn. I’m about 10 days into the germination and it’s looking good.
Shame I didn’t do a video diary. But I have got some progress pics, and waiting for 1st mow before winter sets in.
Just wanted to say, Ryan that you have an awesome channel. I have learned so much while laughing at the same time. You are the best!..Paul
Glad you enjoy it and thank you for watching!
With the top soil we have in Central Iowa you can grow anything.
Ryan! Everyone notices everything in your videos because of all the awesome cinemography - cineamawhatever -(Spelling complements of Mr. Ward's last Vid) By the way another great opening and editing! Awesome #sissyryegrass Love it! Thanks for the Updates Chad Upstate NY
Love @1:41. You been getting a lot of 2"+ events. Fyi.. you can use the funnel to drop the water in tube when measuring so you dont risk spillage. Also dont forget to bring inner tube and funnel in for winter
Yes I have made the mistake of it freezing before 😳
Good stuff lawn looks great!! Thanks Ryan!
Great updates, they made it worth following the season vids. The opening looked professional!
Just a suggestion on the cookie-duster...never trim it. If it starts getting unruly, find a good stache wax and keep it brushed sideways at the bottom. Like KBG, it will fill in.
Good advice!
Love the updates and you need a hose caddy for your lawn hose. Next year your yard will be Rock'n!!
very artsy start to this video.
I am having good success with my project yard as well. Just seed. Letting mother nature water it.
First Aussie 😁. Ryan, send me some rain. . The rebel must be quaking in his boots with you growing the moustache. Beating him at something else .the safety sally won’t like that. 😎👍🏼👍🏼
Awesome update, a shame the project backyard got washed out and every else.
The no irrigation seed thing works best a couple weeks before it gets too cold to seed (ground temperature below 50 degrees) with some rain. The cooler temperatures and short days keep the ground wet longer. That’s my experience in the transition zone anyway.
Always love watching your videos! Excellent updates😀😀
A little rain here in the big state of Iowa. I know our creek was out of it's banks. Fun stuff. Just sayin I believe and have been saying for a month that we will have snow on the ground before Halloween. We will see. Thanks for sharing...
Ryan I’m in East Texas considering doing a full lawn renovation using Bermuda…. I irrigation. Do you think that’s possible or a waste?
Nice video man, another great one.
Go Wild, I still say when your back in MN I’ll hook you up with Wild tickets
Your front is looking amazing!!👌🤏👍
Lawn looking great!
Hey man, looking great around your lawn, congrats!
For those of us who don't have access to the myriad of products sold in the US but still dream about a lawn like yours, would you care to comment on what active ingredients should we look for let's say getting rid of clover/broad-leaf weeds on a Rye-KBG mixed turf? I live in Europe, with temperatures similar to those at your place.
Forget about Tenacity and other wonders though (gosh, what would I give for a season's supply of that thing!!!). Thanks a lot!
A sissy stache for the sissy grass!
😜
I did the yard leveling thing about 3 yrs ago after doing a grass 'Killzall' to wipe out the yard in June. I let it sit and resprayed again once stuff started coming up. Everything looked pretty good & clean. Bought a truckload of bulk topsoil, then several 40 pound bags to level off the low areas in late July. I seeded in Mid august in KY Blue. It came up great and looked really good early the following year. Then the wild violets popped up everywhere and some chickweed. Now 2 years later I have those scattered & a bunch of zoysa coming up in big sections due to all the squirrels rooting around . The violets cannot be killed with those specialty sprays (the ones you can only use a couple times per year), that save the grass but are supposed to kill .
Would it be better to buzz cut it yet this fall and wipe it out with Killzall spray and start from scratch in the spring or let it go and kill it in the spring/early summer ? I would like to start growing it again before late summer (the prime dates here in Ohio are mid Aug-mid sept). Thanks
Wildpony98 no need to kill it all. Triclopyr plus MSO will kill the wild Violet. Works best in the fall but can also work as soon as you see it come up in the spring. Zoysia can be killed with Tenacity plus NIS.
If you kill everything now and don’t seed until spring, you will have a mud hole and if there is any slope to it, it will wash ruts.
If you kill it all in the spring and seed spring/early summer, that is when most weeds germinate also, so it will be full of weeds probably worse than you have now.
All projects are looking good and they are stress free, that is what we all want. Good job 👍
That front lawn is so short you could shovel snow off it, heck could even probably snow blow it. You'll have a green lawn all year round!
The over 30 inches of snow we get during winter says I probably won't be seeing the lawn until spring. ☹️
Looking good as always 👍 keep it up
With that shady area that you have, I bet seed Superstore has something for that. My whole front yard is shaded and I got Rebel tall fescue from them. It's thriving, it's pricey but worth it. It was their highest rated Fescue for shade tolerance. I bet you they got something in a Bluegrass that would work for you.
Ryan, love your videos! Can you help give me a suggestion on how to get rid of clumping fescue? And should I do it now or wait? Thank you and keep your videos coming!
Geez...I feel like I'm lookin' at Burt Reynolds
Nice job.
Great video Ryan
Awesome UPS truck at minute 6:33.
Hahahahaha. 😂 about the mustache. Awesome footage
When you say common weed killer for the new grass area, would you feel safe using Tzone on the new grass after a few mows?
I would probably use something less aggressive if possible. I like to start on the safer side if possible
Ryan Knorr Lawn Care I’m feeling like connar ward and will just go for it in a few areas. see what happens!
So I threw about 7lbs of PRG seed over 800 sq ft of semi heavy thatch. I dethatched, but I’d guess that about 30% of it remained via a thin layer (I had to throw it down before it got too late)... do you think that was a complete mistake? Or do you think I’ll at least get 50% germination for anything that crept under the thatch? (Raked it in)
Love the GOPHER sign
I live in the midwest (Chicago, IL). Could I get some tips on how to make a light green lawn take on a deep dark green? Maybe add some thickness? Thanks!
Have you ever done anything to stave off early season freeze/frost damage to extend the growing season? I renovated my backyard and it’s coming in nicely but I’d like to prevent as much frost damage as possible so it continues to thicken up. Thinking about a light watering the night before and morning of the frost. Thoughts?
I really haven't...I just let nature do its thing
Long hair and mustache, it must be hockey season. Turf is looking perfecto!
Winter is just around the corner!
I have plenty of time to water my lawn. It’s just that where I live it’s not practical because we all have big lawns.
Hey Ryan! Hoping you could give me advice if it’s too late to aerate? I’m living in NH and we did have an early first frost a week ago, and it’s been raining a lot. It’s supposed to be in 60’s for the next week but also have quite low lows. The grass growing has also noticeably slowed down a bit. Just want to make sure there is time for grass to recover. Any advice would be most appreciated!
I would probably wait at this point just because of the slow down and frosts
The soil temp is 57.4 tonight in NE South Dakota. Going to get below freezing the next few days with snow/rain. Any idea what soil temp puts bluegrass and rye to rest for the season?
50-65 is ideal time for cool season so under that it starts to slow
Ryan, what's your thoughts about using tackifier on the newly seeded yard to prevent wash out?
I'm grass seeding my yard with Kentucky bluegrass. Sadly I have 2 acres and no idea how to water $600 worth of grass seed.
Doesn't sound fun
Hey Ryan I just had my lawn aeration completes and was wondering if you think it’s to late in the season to oversees the lawn? I’m in northern Ohio so the temps have been dropping into low 40’s at night and wasn’t sure if it’s worth seeding at this time or waiting until spring.
Nice hat. Shame about those trades last year. Granlund, Coyle, and Niederreiter all gone for lesser players. Hopefully new management turns it around.
I have a feeling it's going to be a very long season...
Ryan, I may have missed it, but when did you apply your Fall PreEm and what did you use?
Actually I didn't and never have used any in fall...I actually rarely use it in spring either for my yard
ty for the update kbg types
Hey Ryan, question about my lawn up here in WI. I believe my soil is pretty heavy in clay and I can't seem to get a nice yard of grass going. Could you help me?
How do I tell if my lawn is getting afungus or just starting to yellow for the winter? I'm on Long ISland...hasnt been too cold yet but ist starting to look a little off...
Hey Ryan, question, I just overseeded with perennial rye grass, it has been a month, looks great already had first mow, I have a creeping charlie problem, I wanted to hit it with some herbicide, I am thinking its too soon after overseeding? Any thoughts?
Have to mow 3-4 times before you should spray
Hey Ryan, what is the growth regulator? Is that apart of the Simple lawn solutions? On a side note Minnesota vs Nebraska game should be a good one! GO BIG RED!!
No it's called Tnex
Quick answer, yes... Of course.
Hey Ryan how much grass seed do you use for a typical overseed?
Hey Ryan on that project lawn that you showed updates on. How big is that yard? I don't recall you mentioning that previous but I could be mistaken.
2 acres
@@ryanknorrlawncare
Oh wow that is a project similar to what I've started working since August over here in Michigan. Thanks Ryan again.
Clover- Trimec with MSO for the surfactant.
Are we going to see a winterization vlog?
Usually around the beginning of Nov for where I'm at
I tried one of those shitty Zero G style hoses and it sprung a leak the first time I dragged it across concrete. Maybe could work for someone who's incredibly gentle on it.
Where are we putting in the patio?
That is yet to be determined...haha
@@ryanknorrlawncare we need to start planning
You might want to rewatch your first podcast for some pointers on how to get the facial hair to come in a bit better.
Did you reach any conclusions or at least first impressions about what seed mix you liked the most?
WILL YA LOOK AT THAT!!
Also, it's "Muzama", ask Jordan.
Uhmmm. That stache must stay. No shave November is coming
Kyle McAtee
Ha.. I have not shaved since last November...
It's called "MOvember"
First week of September I power raked , aerated , top dressed a few areas and put down SS5000 seed from the super seed store . Great results .... my lawn looks thick and with a nice shade of green . It was well worth doing it . What size shed did you build and what do you think about putting down Scott’s winterizer before the end of the season ? I’ve thrown down Miloganite and ironite since my reseed . I always enjoy watching your videos 👍🏻
Thanks Bob
Long Island, NY
Something quick release at the end of the season would be best but the winterizer would be ok
What is that Blanket stuff called?
Taught me plenty on lawn care...let me teach you hiw to grow facial hair 🤪 love the videos brudda
What kind of rain gauge is that?
Link in the description
Hey Ryan... Where are you from Iowa?
Whats a good crabgrass preemergent?
Look for active ingredient prodiamine
Active ingredient dithiopyr being another one
@@ryanknorrlawncare Great! Thanks...btw I just wanted to thank you for all the content you make for all of us to see. Its always very informative and helpful. My grass is alot happier because of this channel. Keep it going!!!! #lawngoals
Those hoses suck. Everyone I’ve had broke. Flexzilla hoses changed my irrigation game
It is gonna get really cold really quick. 😕
Yes it is coming soon
The answer is Yes, and No.
Don’t use those shitty expanding hoses for anything that needs pressure! They don’t build any sort of pressure! You want something light and flexible that still has pressure and won’t pop if you leave it in direct sun.... go get some flexzilla hose. I went through probably 4-5 of the others and they always popped from being in the sun. Got this neon green flexzilla hose and have not had one issue to date!
It was on clearance so I just grabbed one to try it
Ryan Knorr Lawn Care if you don’t want it to pop let all the water out and store it in the shade. Trust me. I heard it one time from inside the house! BOOM! Went out and hose was spraying water everywhere!!!

Connor
He's not even trying anymore!
01:33 I should look so handsome on my best day. You can't mess up natural beauty 😁

I just posted my first video it would be awesome if you checked it out. A lot of people show their failures so I thought I would to. Definitely left a lot of room for improvement in future videos
