Awesome results! It looks like the whole lawn blends in nicely which in and of itself is a huge plus! I'd love to mix all of them together to create some super turf 😂
Looks amazing! I waited too long to drop my seed last fall and didn't get it down before it snowed. Put it down in May, but it's still pretty patchy and didn't germinate in several spots. Watching this, I know what to do in the fall this time.
Nice! I've given up on my lawn this year and letting it goto dormant. In May I used a local repretuable professional landscaper in the spring (gold package) to fertilize, spray for weeds, dethatch, reseed, took some time off work so that I can be home (I work in a remote location and live by myself), even spent hundreds on the Scotts seeds that's supposed to grow anywhere, watered it daily and still have empty patches everywhere. Spots won't grow, got the cheetah patterns everywhere so i'll just leave it be.
Awesome to see the results, all varieties look very nice. Very interested to see if the Rye actually spreads. So far in my own RPR lawn I really haven't seen it spread that well and the stolons are not really developing at all, so very interested to see if the creeping kind will actually spread. Awesome to follow along.
Show mw a video where grass was put with tourbe 2 years ago by professional for 3k for 1000 sq. Ft. They put new soil after removing the worst street lawn. She gave the 4 times engrais to a specialized weedman company who came to spray the lawn to keep her grass like the day after new grass was done august 2021. Now, she ĥas a grass full of a never seen for me bad weed which is 10-12" high, a lighter shade of green. I dont understand why this happening. Is it worted to pay 3k and 400& for engrais 4 times a year if no pesticide is alloud here. Another house did a 7 cars parking lot to avoid grass in his front lawn last month. What is next? Our grkund is sand, like the one at the beach. I
Did you apply the Propeat 10-0-10 at the time of seeding, as a "starter fertilizer", or as a subsequent treatment? My soil test suggests a 13-5-8 mix would be appropriate. I'm just not sure if that's what I should use as a starter when I seed in September, or if I should use a traditional starter like Scott's Turfbuilder and then use the 13-5-8 in the regular fertilizing cycle. As always, thanks a bunch for your insights. Best lawncare channel out there, hands down.
Starter fertilizers are commonly a combo shot of all npk. Using the 13.5.8 is a great way to do it. Since propeat is a slow release due to the peat you can do label rates. If you’re using a competitor brand with like numbers just cut your rates down to 2lbs per 1000.
I love all of your videos! I tried so many of the ideas you gave us and my grass looks like carpet. I wish you would put up a time line on when to use fertilizer which number to use. I would love to know what Home Depot sells the fertilizer, I had to order it and have it sent to my house. I also need to know when to use Tenacity. I used the Tenacity last spring and it worked great. Can I use it this fall to catch the the blades I missed?
if you use tenacity at the high rate you can apply it twice as a broadcast application. i like your fertilizer application video idea. I have done a few about this subject. you don't necessarily need to change the bag numbers ever. depending on your region will determine the applications and how many you'll make. as a numbers guy its 4lbs of nitrogen per 1000 sq ft per season if you have optimal levels of nitrogen in the soil. I alway recommend getting your soil tested first to determine these levels. with that said i prefer to do my applications 4 weeks apart at 1/2lbs n per 1000 sq ft.
Did the backyard two years ago with the berenburg rpr and it was like half the price of what it is now but still some of the best grass seed i have used
Thoughts on the black beauty ultra from Jonathan green? I am in Northern Utah and I am looking at laying this down in my backyard for some overseeding this fall.
Amazing looking lawn! I'm currently treating my KBG for weeds (mainly clover) and fungus (brown patch/pythium) and plan on onverseeding in September. Can one of these elite perennial ryegrass seeds be used, or would you suggest sticking with a quality KBG seed like the Barenbrug KBG Turf Pro Blue. I'm not sure about the growing competition between RPR and KBG. Thanks, really enjoyed all the videos on this project.
These integrate well with Kentucky blue. Just keep in mind the blue is dominant and will regularly push against the rye. Makes for a super thick combination and feel on the feet. I personally have kept my blue as blue and the ryegrass as ryegrass. Love them both for different reasons
I actually have your exact grass Blue Pro and RPG. I have had bad brown patch hit the rye. And in the dead areas the Blue is still alive 🤯 im in Richmonf VA and that made my decision easy to stick with the Blue Pro. It also spread over the colder months like no one would believe. It's really good stuff. I love Perrinial but in my area it just is too hot and humid. 😢
Looking great Ginja! 😁 I’ve been loving the transformation of your yard. Sorry to hear your footage got lost. 😔 I’ve been considering changing my Tall Fescue out for the Ryan Knorr Ryegrass here in Utah. With your testing do you find the ryegrass takes more water here in Utah? Also, I can only do 1 1/4” cut. Would that be too tall for ryegrass?
Hey 👋 The rye is great but keep in mind it needs to stay wet or it dies. I water 1.75” to 1.9” of water per week during the hot months. Same as my Kentucky bluegrass. I’m currently keeping mine at 1.25”
Not that I’m aware of. From my understanding csi and rpr held the patents for the tech and nobody else followed suit. I could be wrong but that’s the story I’ve heard time and time again
Lesson learned… don’t seed in October, but real life happens. But OMG that rye looks so good in the spring seed. Great job Ginja! Love to see FEature vs AS and FAS on both sections. How low are you mowing?
How would you recommend dealing with a maple stump in the center of tge front lawn? In process of a renovation, sprayed the glypho already. Dig out and burn? Thanks for the help!! Cheers
Just did mine!!! I had mine taken out with a stump grinder and I made sure they removed the wood chips. Highly recommend moving it. Those old stumps attract wood destroying insects. They eventually start to decay and also make the areas spongy as a result of you do not remove them.
I purchased a bag of the RPR 2 summers ago, and I can tell you that after an issue with grubs, it does in fact have some spreading capabilities, though from what I've noticed if you want it to spread, keeping it cut very regularly and feeding it lots of nitrogen certainly helps. It'll look good no matter what, but if you want it to look better then great, be prepared to feed it a lot. It loves to eat whatever you throw at it.
Here's a video idea. ~ The lawns in my suburban neighborhood are Kentucky Blue grass. Over the years, all the lawns have risen up, now standing 1 to 2 inches above the adjacent concrete sidewalks. What is happening here? Are the roots from random trees forcing up the lawn soil? Are lawn roots expanding up uniformly? Are concrete slabs sinking? Are cumulative factors doing it? Help me solve this mystery.
How does the RPR seam to do with dog urine? I can not get my grass to stop dying where my pups urinate. I live in Tooele Utah and had tremendous winter kill this year. This spring I over seeded with Barenbrug Turf Blue Pro, and everywhere the pups pee turns brown and dies within a week. This year since over seeding has been the worst year ever for pet pee death. I am not sure if it is do to the grass I planted, the grass being young or nitrogen levels being high, etc.
ryegrass is super prone to tissue damage in general. rpr vs other types of ryegrass...... hard to tell. I've tested it on a few varieties and it seems to vary depeding on the dog and its uring specifically. wish I had a better answer. Tall fescue is more tolerant from what I've seen. I'd probably overseed with either tall fescue or a hardy bluegrass.
What type of seed would you recommend for Sanpete county in Central Utah? It needs to be drought tolerant, and you mentioned in the comments that the rye grass needs lots of water. We're at 6,500 ft. elevation and are dependent on field irrigation that can run out between August and September. Thanks for any help you can give.
My recommendation is tall fescue. Rtf by barenbrug is a great product t but keep in mind drought tolerant doesn’t mean no water. It means you can stress it out and bring it back to life. My opinion on grasses that fit that definition is bluegrass is the most drought tolerant. If instead of dealing with a grass that was alive for 8 months out of the year you could go to a warm season grass like Buffalo or zoysia. The grass would only be awake from may through august.
I thought putting tenacity down would prevent seed germination? I have a bunch of bent grass I'd like to kill, thought I'd do it in the fall and seed in the spring, won't tenacity prevent me from reseeding right away?
tenacity provides about 3 weeks of pre emergent is all. it is a selective pre emergent that won't effect your seed but its best to apply in such a manner at seeding or post 5-6 weeks seeding. spot spraying your bent with tenacity is a great idea.
I left it for about three weeks while I was out of town. The all wheel drive dug into the ground when it turns around. Something I pointed out in my unboxing.
As I've said before, lawns are a very high-maintenance weed. Thanks for the excellent video. This completely converted me to zero scaping.
Perfect!
Moral of the story, use a quality seed. Great work Ginja!
Truth!
It's crazy how fast that lawn grew in especially being that it's summer. Exceptional video as always
It came in super fast when ground temps were at 50 degrees! I was kind shocked by both brands really. The csi/rpr came in thick!!!
Awesome commentary on these grasses. I have been waiting to see the outcome of them. I'd say your test was quite thorough.
Thank you! More to come
Awesome results! It looks like the whole lawn blends in nicely which in and of itself is a huge plus! I'd love to mix all of them together to create some super turf 😂
🤣 not a bad idea!
at last! i feel like we have been waiting on this forever 😀 as someone who cant get the ryan knorr, the csi and rpr both look decent options
Great products!

Cool to see a couple of guys at the end that CTR. I always had that gut hunch. :0) Glad they all recovered from that winter.

Ginger, I love what you did... this was awesome. Great job! I’m really looking forward to my reseeding this Sept!
Thank you! I enjoy showing the prices

Mine took about 6-8 months to start spreading aggressively

I used that Ryan knorr PRG when I did my first Reno. Still looks good to this day but added better cultivars to it 👏🏻
I love it!

Would starter fertilizer do the same job as Tenacity?
i believe its scotts turf builder
Did the backyard two years ago with the berenburg rpr and it was like half the price of what it is now but still some of the best grass seed i have used
Such a great product that’s getting better every year!
Test idea- have a birthday for that dog and invite all the neighborhood hounds.
Turn the ryegrass into a Dalmatian 🤣

How would I decide ? You maybe causingots of sore backs.
I want to see how they all do when you cut back the watering times?

Can you apply a fungicide during the seeding process, as a preventative measure? Will it interfere with germination?
Looking good brother.👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸

In my rpr official review vídeo I show the stolons
So far so good..!!!
I think so too!
It would be great if barenbrug develops a rhizomatous RPR grass seed.
Be pretty cool 😎
Can you make an update on if rpr filled in those spots?
I will. the rpr starts spreading laterally best after 6 months. its spreading slightly at this point but nothing worth bragging about.

How often should I mow w,hen I am trying to overseed? I have it down to a 3 (from a 5) on my riding mower. Can I bring it down to a 2 in say 3 days?
I don’t let the grass get much higher than 4” throughout the process. For bare spot seeding I mow as the grass gets above 2” so it doesn’t lay flat

Any recomendations on local supplier for barenbrug her in the great stat of Utah?
Great Basin or j&j nursery

100 there and fully functioning!

I plant all the grasses
Price difference between two seed varieties?
25lbs Knorr is listed $169. 25lbs rpr listed $187 on Amazon but you can typically find a local supplier around $100 or less
Bro i think you missed a spot. Better nuke, re level, aerate, and re do the irrigation again
