Ever since I was really young, I've always been fascinated with states and their capitals, and I had them all memorized by age 5. At age 22, I've currently been to 29 states and 10 state capitals. I'm hoping to visit more real soon. :) Edit: I have now been to all 50 states, and 14 capitals :)
Bigger cities tend to be well-known, and it's often an accident of geography and/or history that they grow as large as they do. Capitals, on the other hand, are quite often (but not always) centrally located in their state, which may or may not lead to their growth ~
Well, \ˈbȯi-sē\ might well be a regional pronunciation, but \ˈbȯi-zē\ is also a standard pronunciation. As for Honolulu, the vowel in the second syllable is actually a schwa since that is an unstressed syllable. And "o" has the "ah" sound when it is a short vowel: \ˌhä-nə-ˈlü-(ˌ)lü\ or \hō-nə-ˈlü-(ˌ)lü\. So, the pronunciations I've used in this video are not incorrect - they are standard ;)
I am a Brit I found this useful because I like memory tests but I would have liked a pause between the capital and the state to test my own knowledge. Using it this way, I would have preferred the name of the state first. This is not a criticism because the video was intended for pronunciation purposes but I am still searching for a video that meets my requirements. Can anyone help?
Cheers from the US 🇺🇸 - You could look at a blank map of all 50 states and drag your finger from state to state, quizzing yourself - you could download this video, edit it in Adobe Premiere, or Final Cut Pro to your liking - you could download an app that helps you learn each state and it’s respective capital - you could create or find a Quizlet - you could hire a tutor - you could try to memorize this video or remake this video - you could practice teaching each state & capital to a pet or stuffed animal (helps with memorization) Hope this helps!

That's the "fun" thing about English - sometimes things are not what they seem ;) ! Many ESL people pronounce Arkansas like "Kansas" with an "Ar" in front of it - but nope, we can't do it that way; it'd be too easy :) Always something to keep you on your toes!

Texas has Austin, then we go north, To Massachusett's Boston and Albany New York, Tallahassee Florida and Washington DC, Santa Fe New Mexico and Knashville Tennessee. Verse 2: Trenton's in New Jersey north of Jefferson Missouri, You've got Richmond in Virginia, South Dakota has Pierre, Harrisburg's in Pennsylvania and Augusta's up in Maine, And here is Providence Rhode Island next to Dover Delaware. Concord New Hampshire, just a quick jaunt, To Mont-pe-lier, which is up in Vermont, Hartford's in Connecticut, so pretty in the fall, And Kansas has Topeka, Minnesota has St. Paul. That's all the capitals there are!
You would have to read the history of each state to find out why they put the capital where they did. In most cases, the capital is not the largest and/or most important city in the state. It's the same with Washington, DC, the capital of the US. It's not anywhere near the largest city, and it's not an important city--except that it's the capital. It's a city that was planned specifically to be the capital in the late 1700s, plotted on paper and then built where it is planned city that was put where it is as the result of a deal among some of the Founders.

Hi, and thanks for stopping by. I made this video when I was still relatively new to making videos and had a lot to learn (still do have much to learn :) ) so I'm sure there's room for improvement! If I were to remake it, I'd probably do some things differently. But as far as adding music goes, one has to be careful, I think, that the music not overwhelm or detract from the video's message. Music should complement the video's purpose. Thanks for watching!
Also, with music (especially) one has to be careful about copyright. I could write my own song to provide a mnemonic for remembering the states and their capitals, but I don't have the equipment, etc. for making a decent recording to use with the video.

American pronunciation of a place name. [shrug] If you think that's weird, there's a town in Ohio named Versailles. It is pronounced "Ver-sales."
