MESSAGE TO YOU 😊
Thanks so much for being a part of our community. Learning English is an enriching experience that brings everyone all around the world closer together. Be sure to say “Hello” and write to us in the comments. We love hearing from all of you.
THANKS FOR WATCHING!
The best video about american's State names that I've seen until now. It's well- done job, because It has pronounce and phonetic transcripition that make us to understand them . I am from Brazil, and I like to watch your videos.
Thanks Jose. Glad you enjoyed the lesson. 👍
The best vídeo about states names I've seen! Well done job! From 🇧🇷.
I'm from Brazil, but my older son has been living in The U.S.A. for 10 years. The last three years he is living in Alphareta, close to Atlanta. Every now and then I have been to Atlanta, a great and gorgeous city. I love watching your English classes on RUclips. I learned a Lot with You and with your wife as Well!!!
Thanks so much for your comment Jose. We're glad you enjoy our lessons. We visit Atlanta often because my brother and his wife live there. Hope you have a great day! 😃
People from Nevada and the states around it tend to pronounce it "neh-VAD-uh" with a short "a" sound rather than an "ah" sound. Great video though. New Mexico is actually quite cold most of the time. Perfect pronunciation of Oregon by the way.
Thanks for commenting & checking out the lesson. 👍
They don't just tend to... thats how it's pronounced. The short a is the only way.
@@timewarpdrive77 Agreed. Anyone who argues "ne-VOD-uh" must be the correct pronunciation because "that's how it's said in the original Spanish" needs to also 'correct' their pronunciation of Florida, Colorado, California, Montaña, Tejas and any other state named by the Spaniards. XD
That's how we pronounce it in WI.. long A sounds pretentious
Just like Alabama, Alaska, Arizona all have multiple “a”’s and they are not pronounced the same throughout the word.
I am into Minnesota. I know it has freezing cold winter time with lots of snow, but I had strong interest in 5 great lakes of USA. When my elementary school teacher introduced great lakes in USA, I started dreaming of visiting, exploring and even living there.
Thanks for sharing! I used to live in Minnesota when I was a young kid. I don't remember much except for the crazy amount of snow that would pile up in our cul de sac. 😃
The Great Lakes region has some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. I'm sure they'd love to have you.
Great lesson, Wes. Pretty useful, loved it! Thanks a million!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for commenting. 👍
I've been to NYC for 2 weeks it was AWESOME!!! Actually NYC city is my fav city in the whole world. And now for some reasons I want to visit Tennessee so bad.
Hi wees, i thank you so much for your english lessons and for answering my commentaries, you are one of the few english techers who give themselves a time to answer commentaries. Have an amazing week. Greetings.

Glad to hear that. Thanks for your comment Mostafa. Hope you have a great day! 😊
@@InteractiveEng thanks . Hope the same to you
As an Oregonian: good job! I was expecting to be somewhat disappointed, but you did well. If I were to critique anything, it'd be to put even less stress on the last syllable.
Thanks for commenting & sharing with us. Have a good one! 👍
Ooooooooo
Pronounced the same as "organ", as in church organ.
I am so glad you pointed out that the name of my home state, Illinois, is pronounced with the final 's' being silent. Even some Americans pronounce it wrong.
He then went on to pronounce Nevada wrong... What a fool.
Thanks for the lesson.
It was really useful.
It will be great if you can take us through the pronunciation of The Union Territories of America
Glad you enjoyed the lesson & found it useful. 😃
Why am i watching this? I live in america.... im still watching it though

Sadananda Yumkhaibam nice
Hi you so beutiful
Same lol I was just waiting for my state and he pronounced it the wrong way :((
@@alistairt7544 what is your state
Interesting little tidbit. The original name for Rhode Island until 2020 was Rhode Island and the Providence Plantations. The providence plantations was drop with an amendment to the states constitution. Also, officially, Massachusetts is the Commonwealth of Massachusetts not the state of.
I just want to thank you for this video. I live in Maryland and lots of people mispronounce it. I am not one of those people who get really mad if you mispronounce it, I could care less, but I hope this helps people so other people don't get mad at them for mispronouncing it.
Thanks for commenting & sharing with us. Yes, hopefully this will help clear up some pronunciation mistakes. 😊
I ' m very Happy ! Very delighted by this Topic of Pronounciation ! Thank you Sir !

You can do a video with the name of the capital of each state. So, both state-capital and its pronunciation. Or even better, the main cities in each state. I like the way you teach.

*Me crossing my fingers that he pronounces "Nevada" the right way, not like those East Coasters... And he said it incorrectly. 😭
It's /nɪˈvædə/, the "va" is pronounced with a wide vowel "a", like in the word "apple". The phonetic symbol you provided was correct "æ" but you pronounced it wrong 😔
Here's a good example of reporters from New York pronouncing it correctly.
ruclips.net/video/hFnT8OI81mU/видео.html
I was hoping the same, LOL! :-)
I am from Connecticut. I do not pronounce Nevada the way he does, but the way you do. The East Coast is a long - well- coast.
it is indeed Neh VAH dah
because it is originally Spanish
Dude I will never know the difference taxes & Texas
Yes, that's a common pronunciation challenge (short A vs short E sounds). Perhaps we'll do a lesson on this in the future. 👍
Como decimos en España, en el término medio está la virtud. Hace milenios que los lenguajes civilizados como latín y griego adoptaron las cinco vocales clásicas. No es bueno un número menor como en árabe ni un número mayor como en inglés. Ahí está el problema.
Well! They don't pay taxes in Texas😀😂

Thanks for pronouncing Missouri correctly. The hicks of our state sometimes turn that final syllable from ee to a schwa. But it is only correct to say that final ee!
Thanks so much for commenting & checking out the lesson. 👍
Thanks for this useful video. This was what I needed to know. One of my dreans is to visit the state of California. San Francisco must be a wonderful city. My best wishes from Spain. Wish I could visit the U.S soon

Thanks Leticia. Glad you enjoyed it. Have a great day! 😊
Although i like geography, there are many states that i hear for the first time.
Sometimes, a basketball club is more famous than the state itself like Utah jazz.
I've always dreamed of visiting the US and if i have the chance to go there i will visit New York city and San Francisco city but i think it's just an impossible dream.
Thanks so much for sharing with us. New York and San Francisco are two great spots. Hope you get to visit some day. 😊👍

Just learned Virginia and West Virginia are 2 different states! Used to think West Virginia in the song"Country road" was western part of Virginia. Funny I came to learn the pronunciation and ended up learning geography as well!
Which was once named after Queen Elizabeth the 1st
Are you aware of the Civil War? Originally, West Virginia was part of Virginia. When Virginia seceded from the Union in 1861, the mountaineers in the West were not happy. They met in Wheeling, declared that they were the legitimate government of Virignia, and passed a resolution dividing the state in two, the State of Virginia and the State of West Virginia. Congress consented to the division. After the Civil War was over, the State of Virginia objected to the division, but the United States Supreme Court ruled otherwise. Okay, said Virginia, but then West Virginia needs to pay its share of the public debt as it existed in 1861. That litigation was not resolved until 1915. West Virginia finally paid the debt off in 1939. All this might explain why West Virginia is one of the poorest regions in the country.
@@markrich7693 Once named? It still is. Virginia is a reference to Virgin Queen, a name given to Queen Elizabeth I. Whether she actually was or not, we do not know.
@@shirtless6934 Thanks for the history knowledge

Great Britain also has its own 'surprises' in pronunciation of geographical names: Thames (TEMZ); Leicester (LESS-tuh); Worcester (WOO-stuh); Edinburgh (EH-din-bruh/EH-din-buh-ruh);... What to say about Yosemite (yoo-SEH-muh-tee)? One can't rely on English spelling at all.
