Love bucktail and love youtube videos, so was super😊👍🏼 Just and tip (if you don’t tie with 400den thread😂) When you crank down at the maximum tension of what the thread can handle, don’t angle the bobbin tube at the thread. Aim the tube inline with the thread so you don’t the an angle that can cut the thread when cranking down at the maximum tension. Keep the videos coming!👌🏼😊
Excellent stuff there! When I first saw you use that over-sized half hitch tool, I went right to my wood lathe, and within minutes, I had three of them! They're a must, for BIG fly building! I to use UNI Big Fly.
Super helpful video! My lady made a drinking game of it while I was watching and had a drink everytime you said the word "flair"... she's now drunk next to me, and she thinks she's got jokes 🤦♂😂 Thanks again for all the tips and pointers!
That was very helpful - I subscribed to Rich's channel also. Normally I wouldn't watch a 20 min video (Kelly goes on and on and on and on) but this was worth half my lunch break!
Thank you!!!! Nice tying head. I am getting back into tying, streamers for the most as I fishing on a lake that has Alewife and crayfish. Any Alewife patters?
New to fly trying/ fishing and Just stumbled on your channel! I actually grew up down the road from you in Mansfield. Look forward to digging more into your videos!
I have been tying a month. Actually a professional artist, but love to fish. I went and purchased a vice for tying and started collecting materials.i have a natural eye for color and design. Now I’m happily hooked. I had just came in with more buck tail, and said to myself I need to find more info on using buck tail . Bingo here you are. Thanks so much for informing me on buck tail.
Thanks for watching! I would get in touch with Kelly Galloup's shop "Slide-Inn" if you tell them what you are looking for, they will hand pick material for you. www.slideinn.com/
No joke, I received a bucktail from an online retailer that had, what I can only assume was poop. I mean not chunks because I know how they process it doesn't allow for poop to be on it, but I ordered white and lets just say not all of it was white. My bucktail work improved 10 fold after I began hand picking my tails from a store nearby.
Wow! You are an artist, I see folks making that bullet head and thought they did it just to put on eyes. I like your method better. Thank for the info, as always I enjoy your content 👍☕️☕️ PS. So what are your other two top Materials?
Hi Brian. Your videos are really appreciated. Can you tell me what your favorite material to tie game changers. I know asking on this buck tail video but I also just watched your game changer video. Any help would really appreciated. Thanks Dave Polk
www.feather-craft.com/item/td154/chocklett-s-finesse-body-chenille/1.html Love this stuff! Comes in 2 different sizes, so it already helps with the taper and all.....best I have used yet.
I have been tying for about 10 years and I humbly admit I still lack on tying buck tails! I can do it but they don’t turn out the way I desire. I’m tying mostly crappie jigs. Any tips? Thank u
I've gotten some stinky as in rotting, not treated correctly bucktail. So yes, aside from the reasons mentioned, pull it out of the package in the store.
The under fur is "sharp" and can cut your thread. It also negatively takes away power from your thread making it harder to control how much flare you produce.
@flyfishingtheozarks Cool man thanks! I'm totally new at this with nobody else in my life that's into it to learn from or learn with, and the closest fly shop is in another state, I appreciate the content. While you're here, if you don't mind, could I use "craft fur" found at Hobby Lobby and all that? I'm trying to get into tying some bass jigs and this stuff can get expensive real quick, plus I have no idea what I need so end up having to make multiple separate purchases as I learn.
@hairyfrank9177 You will soon find out the "multiple purchases" thing won't stop 😆 Most of the craft fur in hobby stores has pretty short fibers. But, give it a shot....there are very few rules in fly tying, that's the beauty of it.
@flyfishingtheozarks I can dig it bro, I'll experiment haha. Any recommendations for bass patterns? I watched your tips vid and said to basically stick with one or two patterns to build skill - but I don't know anybtonbegin with and I want to tie them all. What is the senko of fly tying? The bass fly that pretty much never gets old to the bass?
Hey Brian! I just watched Loons latest video on the flow stone pattern.. with much of your influence I subscribed to their channel and use their products. In the video something caught my attention that drives me nuts.. their bobbin chirps when you pull thread. Much like two styrofoam coolers packed next to each other on a long trip - drives me nuts..any tips or hacks on that?
+1 on the polar chenille. I would add rabbit strips and bucktail to round out my top 3. I’ve been tying for about 8 yrs and never once used craft fur, so I need to get on that soon!

You wouldnt believe how much hit the cutting room floor!
Thank for the explanation of this material, I tried it and bombed badly. Now I know the different zones, and should do better next time.
Glad it helped!

Buck tail all in
Love your videos, but you brought up a question of mine at the end! Is there any way to get rid of the smell of bucktails? Thanks!
I'll be honest....I really don't think so.😔
Love bucktail. It is my main materials but hate how inconsistent it is from one bucktail to the next.
That is the thing with natural materials.....not possible to get the VAST majority of them consistent.
No joke, I received a bucktail from an online retailer that had, what I can only assume was poop. Good speaker, good video. 👍👍👍
Thanks!
Always interested in how other people tie. I am mostly a smallmouth guy. Got one of these regarding Marabou?
Sure do....

PS. So what are your other two top Materials?
Hey do you have any videos on tuning trolling flies?
Is the world ready to see @flyfishingtheozarks and @RichStrolis in front of the same camera lens?
Maybe at some point....
Hi Brian. Your videos are really appreciated. Can you tell me what your favorite material to tie game changers. I know asking on this buck tail video but I also just watched your game changer video. Any help would really appreciated. Thanks Dave Polk

Bucktail smells like what the tail covers. And it all smells the same. I wonder if that adds to the fishiness?
I have been tying for about 10 years and I humbly admit I still lack on tying buck tails! I can do it but they don’t turn out the way I desire. I’m tying mostly crappie jigs. Any tips? Thank u
Wish rich would drop morevideos
I've gotten some stinky as in rotting, not treated correctly bucktail. So yes, aside from the reasons mentioned, pull it out of the package in the store.
Never thought about that!
I need more on bucktail please make more videos on it. I subbed love the channel EBA The EastBayAnglers
Thanks for subscribing!
Good stuff bro! Why clear the under fur? What difference does it make if I don't?
The under fur is "sharp" and can cut your thread. It also negatively takes away power from your thread making it harder to control how much flare you produce.
@flyfishingtheozarks Cool man thanks! I'm totally new at this with nobody else in my life that's into it to learn from or learn with, and the closest fly shop is in another state, I appreciate the content.

What is the senko of fly tying? The bass fly that pretty much never gets old to the bass?
@hairyfrank9177 The Wooly Bugger has probably caught more fish than any one fly in the world.....and is a GREAT beginner fly to learn.
Where do you get such nice bucktails?
Como é tingido o pelo buctail?
Hey Brian! I just watched Loons latest video on the flow stone pattern.. with much of your influence I subscribed to their channel and use their products. I think it is more of a thing with newer bobbins.....mine don't really do it anymore. You 'can' hit them with some dubbing wax though.
How do you keep your bin from STINKING!
No way around it, my man. 🤢
Wish i had seen this video before i tied from the base of the tail, not a good result. Thank you. PS Love your style man.
Thanks for watching!!
Thanks! Much appreciated!
Nice👍
Thanks ✌
Brian, what are the other two materials in your top 3?
Probably Craft Fur, Schlappen, and Polar Chenille......oh, wait-- thats 3. 🙂
+1 on the polar chenille. I would add rabbit strips and bucktail to round out my top 3. I’ve been tying for about 8 yrs and never once used craft fur, so I need to get on that soon!
How about toothy critter proof?!
Absolutely!
