Is Las Terrenas Really Better than Punta Cana? 🤔 🇩🇴 Dominican Republic Travel 2022

- Опубликовано: 6 июл 2024
- So many people come to the Dominican Republic and only visit Punta Cana, or they come to Las Terrenas and compare the area to Punta Cana, so we made a video comparing Las Terrenas to Punta Cana.
We start the video on the beaches of Las Terrenas near El Portillo. There is no one else on this beautiful white sand beach with clear water. There aren't many places in Punta Cana where you can have the beach to yourself!
Because some people don't like sitting on a blanket on the beach, we later head up the road to Porto by Mosquito. It's a beach restaurant but they also have beach chairs/loungers. So you can spend the day, have food and drinks and access to bathrooms.
After the beach we head to our apartment rental in town and have a swim in the pool (we'll do an apartment tour in the next video). Just like in Punta Cana, most places in Las Terrenas have a pool as well.
Lastly, we head out for dinner to a Mexican restaurant in Las Terrenas called La Catina, here we have pastor tacos and flautas. We ate at a Mexican restaurant in Punta Cana so we figured it was fitting!

Guys I'm going to be solo..and you both showed me Laz Terrenas. The question I have I do you know the flight costs with out accommodation and which resort would you recommend l am nervous for this solo trip but would appreciate any advice..I am in my 50's and from Donkin, Cape Breton Island 🇨🇦
@@daiglemary89 Hi Christine! The flights depend on where you fly in to (which airport). We just track costs on Google Flights (and a few others). The prices change all the time. We haven't stayed at a resort here so we can't really recommend one. There is a Viva Wydham and Bahia Principe here that may be good options though 😀 - Trevor
incedible! the fact that there are so many huge empty paradise beaches there is definitely what surprised us the most :O
I watched all of your DR videos as well.you did a great job.
It's bonkers honestly! We just drive around everyday on our ATV finding empty beaches 🤙 - Trevor
Used to work in las Terrenas and now working in punta Cana I know really well both places... I must say I miss so much the bohemian life of las Terrenas, the feeling I was living on paradise I don't have it here in PC. Samana zone is such exuberant, natural and full of amazing and unbelievable beaches, landscapes, mountains, waterfall, national parks and you got all these places only for you. Punta Cana in other hand have a very good night life but it's doesn't fell like Dominican life wich it is okay to me.
Your videos are making me want to come back to The DR!
Yay! As you can tell we're clearly never leaving haha 😉 - Anna
Las Terrans is definitely our vibe! The beach and the color of the water…WOW! Food looked amazing! Can’t wait to see the condo tour! Fabulous drone shots too! Excellent video guys! ~Cara 😊
You both would luv this place. The vibe is the best. Hope you're doing great! - Trevor
You don’t eat tacos with a folk
Just wanted to say thanks for your videos - I found you while researching our own trip to DR and we’re just back from a week in the Cabarete area, which we loved. Watching your videos in the lead up to our trip helped build the anticipation and gave some practical advice, too. Hoping to have my own video online in a few weeks time. Cheers from a fellow Canadian.
We're so glad you find the videos helpful and that it's gotten you excited to visit Cabarete! 😀 - Trevor
Im waiting for your video!!
Excellent video as always. You both have that beautiful Caribbean glow. Thanks for taking us along.😎
🥰 Thanks Eleanor - Anna
As a Dominican born and raised, I prefer Las Terrenas to Punta Cana. But it wouldn't be fair to compare them or to choose which one is better. They are totally different places. Beaches are different, the landscape is different. Even the rainfall average is different. I believe that it depends on what you're looking for and what kind of hotel you are looking to stay in.
I’m so glad you’re having a great time here in DR and so happy too that you will reach the 100k subscribers here. DR will be a place to remember for you and for us to have this wonderful couple here showing us so many places that I didn’t even know. 😎👏🤗!!
Great video you guys! Love watching the adventures and experiences you guys are having… DR is on my list for travel for sure!
Put it right at the top of that travel list Sarah! 👍 - Trevor
Fabulous fun riding on your ATV and the drone footage was superb! Thank you ❤️ have a lovely week Anna and Trevor. xo

Good video. Thanks for sharing. I can't believe you 2 have already been on the island for about 6 months. Wow.
That's correct! haha - Trevor
Love your videos! My friend went to school with a girl who now owns a small little resort in Las Terrenas. It's close to the beach....within walking distance. We're going for 3 weeks next winter. Can't wait! Definitely getting some good ideas from you guys on places to visit and eat at.

The food in Las Terrenas just looks amazing. So many options between European cuisine, local Caribbean cuisine, and international restaurants. It seems like a foodie’s paradise.. And those shades of blue, green & turquoise from the landscape is an added bonus! 🤩
The food game here is 👌 - Trevor
Wow! I would definitely like to go there now. Hope you got to enjoy that beach all to yourselves for a bit after filming. 😊

Hello guys, hope you are doing well, my first trip to Las Terrenas happend when I was 9 years old, I’m 62 now, I travel to DR every year and every year I go to Las Terrenas, my favorite spot in DR, to me, much better than Punta Cana by a lot. Back in time on my first trip over there, there were not town, just a few houses that belong to the native fishermen, that place was complete virgin, beautiful, extremely peaceful, we used to sleep on the beach with the starts and the moon on top of us, and the sound of the ocean right next to us, good memories, it was great, since then it had change a lot but I still love that place. Every year my wife and I celebrate our wedding anniversary there and this year is not the exception. Last year we stay in a non all inclusive hotel, this year we will try an all inclusive. As always, love your videos. Great job. Keep it going. Best wi
Francisco, thank you for sharing your experience and love for LT and DR. It’s a special story to allow others to be a part of. Pretty neat to be able to write on such a amazing memory.
Wow now that's some great memories. It's good to know it still has the charm for you both 😀 - Anna
@@Thomas-yg7qg its been a ride, beautiful and all worthy..thanks for your comment
For how long you planning to stay in RD?. Love you video🧡
Never tire of seeing the beautiful beaches and all the scenery. Always an interesting topic LT, Punta Cana and then there is Cabarete also. Each have there own pros and cons but I have to say that as a Canadian, Punta Cana is just easier to travel to and more affordable esp for AI resorts. So it all depends on what you are looking for. For long visits I can see that exploring all the different areas is more interesting and really appreciate you sharing your adventures with us.
Thanks Rosie! So agree as well 😀 - Trevor
As Dominican 🇩🇴, I'm agree with you
In Las Terrenas right now. Staying at Nicole Apart as per your vid... it is a nice place indeed! Thanks.
Luv hearing that! :)
Salutations from Maryland …. My day will come to enjoy 😊 😃😃😃😃
🤗
Hi guys, beautiful video loved the quality, cinematography, fantastic job. Well done. The Bavaro area was like that, lush, empty beaches and difficult to access with various fishing villages. Bavaro/Punta Cana/Cap Cana is becoming destination of entertainment with clubs, concerts, film festivals, theme parks, restaurants, planned communities surrounded with great beaches. World class marina. My concern is that Samana is the quintessential beachcomber destination with a ting of chic and diverse flavors, could be over build with all-inclusive and mega hotels. Thank you.
Hard to say if that will happen here or not... but it's certainly a possibility with all these untouched beaches - Trevor
It's always nice to see tourist come to Las Terrenas. On my opinion, Las Terrenas is my favorite beach in the DR, and there are also many interesting spots to visit over there
Ana and Trevor, your videos are so amazing!! Love how you are true to the areas you visit…
Being a “Terrenera wanna be” myself, I appreciate these… thank you!
Thank you… 🤗
Now for 3 weeks in Las Terrenas.... didn’t see you yet.... we are at playa Bonita. And having the time of our lives. We bought land here and going to build our house. 🥳

Great video as always! I finally made it to LT this week and have been everywhere you’ve recommended the last few months. So thanks to you, I’ve fallen in love with LT! ❤️ I’ll be leaving this week after putting in an offer for a condo in Punta Popy!! I also looked at a condo where you are staying and it is very very nice! I hope maybe I run into you guys before I leave for Cabarete on Tuesday 😎 Thanks Trevor and Anna!
We so like hearing that you're taking our recommendations up 😀 and wow you put in an offer! Hopefully it all works out. We're back in Cabarete Wednesday btw - Trevor
I will see you there! 🤘🏼
@matty1098 who did you use for representation for condo purchase?
Wow those beaches. Can you give some options for places to stay?
I really have enjoyed your videos. It's given me the opportunity to re-visit those amazing beaches lol... it seems I only missed you guys by a week or two having had to leave due to a medical emergency. The ONE THING I have not seen in your videos and something your viewers should see, is the trek through town. I think you should explain the figure 8, the driving mentality and tour Pola to provide perspective on availability and prices. BUT, that's your call... I will film it and post it on my next visit.
We hope you're feeling better VA.... I don't think we'll be filming that but it's certainly a good idea - Anna
LT felt like home when I first visited. Hopefully, in a few years I will be able to live there. Punta Cana is great to visit 😎
We so can see why many folks call this place home 🤗 - Anna
Las Terrenas is one of my favorite places...... thank you for showing it to your audience. Sorry about the noisy bikes...... they have been part of us for as long as I can remember. Hopefully that will change once the electric ones become popular (🤞).
Guys, good vids.
Go to Playa Grande in Rio San Juan close to the Hotel Amanera (very expensive 😞). I think is one of the best in the entire island.

Love your video. We finally booked a trip for April 5 but ended up booking in Punta Cana for an all inclusive. My hope was to come to Las Terrenas and not do an all inclusive but for various reasons booked all inclusive. I will get there for sure!!!! I am in love with this place!

Definitely clx punta cana n go to las terrenas. In punta cana you will b surrounded by tourists n concrete. Hey great video. I have a couple of questions. I know that " pueblo de los pescadores" burned down last year, but I wanted to know if you had any updates regarding if they are rebuilding it or what's the status? Also I wanted to know about the places you are staying at? Do you know if they have monthly / weekly rates, or is everything based off of a daily rate?
Not sure about that building. The condo is called ‘the Nicole’… pretty sure they have daily rates too 👍 - Trevor

@@DelightfulTravellers well I guess I'm gonna have to catch up.
punta cana if you want to stay inside the hotel area and be in a loud environment, las terrenas if you want to relax on a quiet beach and explore places outside of the hotel(beaches other than the one that is closest to your hotel and local restaurants).
Las Terrenas is one of my favorite spots in the DR. But I have to respectfully disagree with the title of your video "Is Las Terrenas Really Better than Punta Cana?". You compared Las Terrenas to Bavaro, not Punta Cana. I own a home in the real Punta Cana. Punta Cana is actually a small area. All the resorts in Bavaro use the name Punta Cana because it's much better for marketing purposes.
Punta Cana specifically started out as a company name, a brand created in the early 1970s by Frank Rainieri, for a piece of land originally called Punta Borrachón (Drunkard’s Point). That area today is called the Punta Cana Resort & Club which also includes the Punta Cana Airport and Punta Cana Village.
Here is a brief history of Punta Cana: Back in 1969 a group of American investors, headed by Ted Kheel, bought 30 square miles of undeveloped land stretching along five miles of the east coast of the Dominican Republic in the province of La Altagracia. The land was mostly impenetrable jungle and bush with no access roads and only a handful of small fishing villages dotted along the coast. But the beaches were among the most beautiful on the island with their white sand, coconut palms, crystal-clear waters and protective coral reefs. A few years later, Dominican entrepreneur Frank R. Rainieri joined them with his vision to create a resort community (Punta Cana Resort & Club) that respects the natural habitat while providing visitors with a world-class vacation experience. At the time the area was called Punta Borrachón (Drunkard’s Point), Frank Rainieri wisely decided to rename it Punta Cana, after the fan-shaped Cana palm leaf that flourishes in the area. Bavaro is Not Punta Cana. You guys put great videos together. I really enjoy watching them. Hope you don't mind my input.
👍🇨🇦🇨🇦🌴🏝beautiful.
