As a 49ers fan, Spags is amazing. He attacked every single weakness of the 49ers amazingly well. Held MVP Lamar Jackson to a paltry 10 points in the AFCCG and held the Niners to 19 points in regulation. Proud of Purdy and CMC for putting up 19 points on KC's monstrous defense.
As a Chiefs fan, looking at how the niners came out firing on D, And the O was moving quite well also. I was prepared to lose. I am honestly still baffled on how KC won but I guess #15 is something straight out of the MCU?!
What were the other 9 or more players on offense doing while Purdy, and CMC were scoring 19 points? Putting it in basketball terms Purdy, and CMC must have each been +9.5. While all the other players netted out at zero.
Old guy here. I was watching in anticipation for your breakdown of the Chiefs defensive moves for this game. As a KC fan, i was hoping for more sacks or a couple of INTs that they could force Purdy into. I honestly thought Brock Purdy did a very good job for 2nd year QB against a rather seasoned DC with the players he had, also considering how good the Chiefs defense had been through the year. Purdy played better than Lamar Jackson did against KC. Purdy missed some throws, wasn’t sacked, but was under some good pressure. There were a lot of unsung heroes on the Chiefs Dline that day. Chris Jones gets all the headlines, but Danna, Penell, Herring, were clogging up the middle quite effectively. Sneed must have been quietly effective because he wasn’t called for any PI or holding. Mcduffie had the one in OT that was huge, but other than McDuffie was just beast on the field. He seemed to be everywhere, breaking up passes, sure handed tackling, or blitzes. That breakup by him against Deebo in the end zone using his off hand, was absolutely textbook coverage. I believe the Chiefs defense shut down the niners receivers, except for #15 Jennings. He caught the TD and threw one. But the big names didn’t do any damage. The Chiefs defense carried the team all year, this game as no exception. I hope they can improve it, keep their players, add to it for next year. 3 Peat!!
One of the best traits he has that nobody ever mentions is that he isn't defined by a single position group. The 2007 Giants had a dominant front seven known for its NASCAR pass rush in the trenches while all of the DBs were JAGs - Just A Guy. Meanwhile on Sunday what was by a wide margin Spags' best performing unit? The DBs. The Chiefs have the best secondary in football. That's not to say talent is lacking elsewhere but this Chiefs defense is built back to front unlike the unit he won previous Super Bowls with. Spags is a very sharp and versatile defensive mind. When I think of other coaches who have won with this sort of flexibility my mind immediately goes to Bill Belichick. Spags is among the best.
@@tnxjesus Belichick has more Super Bowls without Brady than Brady has Super Bowls without Belichick. And just so y'all know, attempts to use that Bucs Super Bowl to prop up Brady damages his legacy, not makes it look better. That Bucs team was a super team. Any top 15 QB would've made the conference championship. That team was truly one QB away. It easily had the best offensive talent Brady ever played with along with a top five defense and Brady had his second worst playoff outing ever. If somebody really wanted to prop up Brady they'd be looking at his time in New England where he was the entire offense.
Spagnuolo deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. He has 4 Super Bowl rings as a DC. You can probably count on one hand the number of coaches in the NFL with 4 or more Super Bowl rings who were both HC or OC/DC combined.
The Chiefs easily have the best secondary in the NFL and Spags knew exactly how to use it by taking advantage of the versatility of his secondary. ALL of them can cover, tackle, and blitz, and are often positionless which makes it VERY easy to disguise what you are doing. The safeties can play corner. The corners can play safety. They will roll from a 2 high to a one high then back to a 2 high safety look in presnap for a single play. ANY one of then who is close to the LOS can be blitzing because Spags knows the other guys can cover man to man behind the blitz. It's a very fun defense to watch when the players understand the complex system well enough to play it properly.
The 49ers had 9 All Pro players on their Super Bowl team yet none had a stand out game --- DL Nick Bosa, DL Javon Hargrave, FB Kyle Juszczyk, TE George Kittle, RB Christian McCaffrey, QB Brock Purdy, CB Charvarius Ward, LB Fred Warner and T Trent Williams. Why? Ans: KC's defense is under-appreciated, the Mahomes and Reid tandum is exceptional, and KC was the reigning champs and proved why they're the real deal. Incredible and foolish for odds makers to have made KC an under-dog. They don't know football or at least they don't know how good this KC team is.
You could see that Purdy was going to stick with the plays called, because there were other players open on many pass plays he could have hit. He telegraphed most of his passes, wasn't looking off the defense, and wasn't completing any reads to 2nd and 3rd receivers.....He's no Joe Montana....
His defensive play calling far out-did the 49ers defensive coordinator, which is why that guy got fired. I mean, running "corn dog" multiple times in the past and still the 49er defense isn't ready for that trick? Having said that, Purdy showed why he was the last pick in the draft in this match. Time after time, whenever Purdy was under pressure, he absolutely could not make an accurate throw to a wide open receiver. So, as great as Spagnuolo was, throwing the kitchen sink against well known choke artist Lamar Alexander, and similar Not Clutch Brock Purdy succeeded only because these guys crumbled under pressure.
On the last play on this video, you can clearly see both CM and Deebo open in the middle of the field. True, they were short of the first down marker but it was only 2nd down, and could've been 3rd and short at worst. Why do you think Purdy opted to take the riskier throw in that situation? Mistake?
I heard on the radio and the analysis given is that Kyle will never win the big game ... And they explained it this way in those crunch time situations You can't scheme anymore the players are tired and stressed and under pressure they can't keep in mind Kyles intricate schemes so that's why you see the players screw up and vice versaThe smart coaches knows you keep it simple at crunch time.... And just let the players play backyard football
They unfortunately totally could. This is the worst their offense has been, and will be for a long time and they still managed to win it all… I’m convinced that as long as the chiefs have Mahomes, Kelce, and Reid they will be superbowl contenders
@@yourlocaltrucker313Not with the Rise of Rashee Rice. Next year Chiefs offense will even be more dangerous. I just hope they don’t lose Chris “CEO” Jones.
Here’s the rub, Spags had great schemes, yet despite that, the niners would have won except for the bungled punt. The player who got hit by the punt cost them the game.
KC had the right Steve,,, SF had the wrong one. Wilks is way too f______ passive. When you have this kind of talent, your D should go on OFFENSE, Steve Spagnoulo style.
Again, that was a KC defensive player. And that bungled punt, you guessed it the punter kicked it so HIGH it was coming down like a meteor ☄️ and if it was fielded would have been fumbled.

Putting it in basketball terms Purdy, and CMC must have each been +9.5. While all the other players netted out at zero.
It’s also curious that they held Jackson to 10 points, but the whole 49er offense to 19 points.

The fact Spags drafted the defensive plan to beat the undefeated Patriots alone should put him in the Hall of Fame.

Dick LeBeau was HOF defensive coordinator for the Steelers, but he also got it for being a superior DB with the Lions.
