Man, I really wish they didn't go the direction they did with this game. AITD1 gave me nightmares as a 10-year-old and this game just confused and frustrated me...but also provided some nightmares - mostly due to the infuriating controls and whack-ass story. Basically an IMPOSSIBLE game to beat without a walkthrough, lol.
Watching your runs make me wanna try as well. Really good job man! I loved the games and played them all when they were new (I was only 4 when the first came out 😂) and I was so shit. I beat the first game for the first time on my own yesterday and thought I'd speedrun it because it's so much fun! Thanks for inspiring me
I'm glad ! This is such a good video game serie overall. I had a lot of pleasure searching tricks, glitches and any useful material for each one. I lost motivation for speedrunning but I was planning to speedrun AotD3 as well. Found several tricks too, the final time could be shorter than AitD2. One day maybe... Thanks for your comment :)
I can't believe I played demo of this game when I wad a kid. I never made it very far, I was 9 haha.. On a separate note, do you know if there is a version of this with runner commentary so everything gets explained? Thank you. Also, my guy, I hope you're still made videos. These old games bring me way back.

I can hardly go anywhere in the game since it was so tough and here you've ended it just like that. Impressive man. The game really is in-depth and only a pro can move around like that and go on with the game.
Ahah that's really nice of you, but trust me I am not a pro. I'm pretty sure I died everywhere it was possible, failed every trick at least one time. I tried over and over everyday during weeks, possibly months. It was brutal and frustrating x) But I guess that by keep trying I ended up having this result. My point is: you too, can do something like that. It's just a matter of patience and dedication ^^

On the first floor (3:10) you can normally see a little cooker walking around, the same you can see at 20:25. If he sees you he calls for help and all the guys you can see in the room at 6:15 come to kill me. Some of them one-shot me (well no really, they just make something like 50 damages) so it's really not a good thing to trigger them at this point x) Basically, the patern of the little cooker just consists to walk from the kitchen to the stairs, go back and doing it again and again. In the speedrun he probably is already upstairs, that's why you don't see him. But as I can predict if he'll be here or not, using the santa suit seems unavoidable. Besides, T. Bone in the kitchen will attack me directly if I'm not disguise !
How to rob a mafia,pirates and play as a little girl, also bring your tap-dancing shoes. Really loved the little girl's animations, considering it is early 90s, this is advanced! Cute girl.
Yup ! It may be surprising but I think it's one of my favorite speedruns. The game itself is really bad, probably the worst of the original Alone In The Dark trilogy. But from the point of view of a speedrun, there are tons of tricks to know, ennemies to manipulate, accurate moves to have. It was a lot harder than the first one to run !

Je me souviens parfaitement qu'à l'époque, il était absent de ma version originale d'Alone 2 (celle sur CD avec Grace et tous les doublages et dialogues, pas la version tronquée sortie sur disquette pour que le jeu puisse aussi être vendu aux joueurs ne possédant pas de lecteur CD) ! En effet, quand un ami m'avait présenté Jack is Back (la version PS1), il m'avait montré ce raccourci que je ne connaissais pas et qui permettait de sauter toute la partie du jardin. Quand je suis rentré chez moi, j'ai immédiatement essayé, et il n'existait tout simplement pas ! Tuer les deux zombies au fond ne débloquait strictement rien de plus, juste une perte de munition et de temps ! ^^" Ouaip, vraiment bizarres ces versions toutes trafiquées des Alone in the Dark sur GOG... Je cherche toujours à rétablir les doublages VO (français) sur Alone 1 sans casser les musiques (c'est ce qui arrive quand je remplace les fichiers par ceux de mon édition CD de l'époque)... En attendant, je joue aux versions proposées par Abandonware-France, où il y a même un installateur automatique pour Linux, un bonheur ! :-D

Je ne crois pas qu'ils aient les compétences de "mélanger" plusieurs versions, et ce serait probablement interdit qu'ils vendent des versions retouchées d'ailleurs. Peut-être que la version americaine du jeu sur PC implémentait ce fameux racourci et pas la version FR ?

Pardon pardon je réponds très tard. J'ai un peu de mal à me souvenir de tout, ce Speedrun remonte à bien longtemps maintenant. Le glitch pour clip avec les angles de porte/mur ne fonctionnait plus puisque le système de déplacement a été modifié entre Alone 1 et 2. il existe toutefois un moyen de passer à travers certains murs fins en faisant une manip un peu étrange (en gros tu buffer une animation de course, tu passes dans l'inventaire et quand tu reviens sur le jeu, tu es passé à travers le mur), je l'utilisais dans mon run de Alone 3 que je n'ai jamais terminé. Dans le 2 toutefois cela semblait plus difficile à exécuter et utile à très peu d'endroit à cause des scripts. Typiquement, la porte à 6:53 (qui d'un point de vue purement théorique est en fait le script à déclencher dans le manoir pour passer à la suite du jeu) si tu passes au travers tu déclenches la cinématique mais One-Eye Jack ne peut pas sortir de la pièce à la fin de son monologue et le jeu se softlock. Sur le bateau en revanche, passer à travers la porte à 21:00 n'empêche pas la suite du script (Grâce entre en scène et neutralise la sorcière) et skip toute la partie du bateau visant à récupérer la clef en forme de carte de jeu. Il faudra également ressortir de la pièce en utilisant le même glitch. L'exécution extrêmement inconstante de la technique ( et devant, dans cette situation, être utilisée deux fois de suite) m'avait fait prendre la décision de ne pas refaire mon speedrun. Je crois que la réussite de cette technique dépend un peu d'à quel point la ram du jeu est surchargée et calcule ou pas des trucs. Comme je te dis, ça remonte alors je me souviens plus très bien des tenants et aboutissants de tout ça. Voilà voilà :)
Well personally I didn't. It was horrible and in a way it shows how much the team needed the knowledge of M. Reynal to make a good game-design. The first one was hard, sometimes very odd but everything had some kind of sense. A bunch of dancing ghosts are in the way ? Let's make them move by playing "Danse Macabre". Are those medusas blocking the way ? Let's do like the book said earlier and put in a mirror in front of them. Etc. But in this episode almost every puzzle is messy, feel illogical or simply out of context and without any clue, kinda like the "Gobliiins" games. I like it anyway, it has its own charm x)

Colonel Flamme Si vous decouvrez le jeu ce n est pas plus mal que vous n utilisiez pas le warp alors, ca skip tout de meme une partie consequente du debut (meme si ce n est pas forcement la plus interessante). La partie avec la jeune fille vient plus tard dans le jeu :)
Don't take me wrong but to say that it seems that you don't know what you're talking about ^^' It's not a cheat code, not a game load, a password or something like that. It is just a shortcut. Someone could think about a "long-path" category of the game in wich he wont use it but the classical category ( known as "any%") just implies to finish the game as fast as possible no matter how, except maybe using data corruption or weird things like that. If this video can't be considered a speedrun, what about the speedrun of Super Mario Bros 1, 2 and 3, World etc who all use warp zones ? What about Myst ? What About Portal ? The list of exemples is infinite. I get your point and I understand what bothers you but the established rules about speedrunning just do not agree with you. After all, this speedrun has been verificated, judged and accepted by Speed Demo Archive x)
No offense taken ;) Anyway, i know exactly what i'm talikin' about, but the title says "REAL SPEDRUN", and this is not, this is a warp excamotage of another version of the game, rejected by fans. No one here says that you're a cheater, but this is just not "REAL SPEDRUN" IMO!
Well the "real" was here most because there were 2 other videos self-called speedrun on RUclips, but skipping the whole Grace part and editing video to cut every "cutscenes" of the game wich makes it totally illegit, contrary to mine. Once again, I understand your point about this warp but it remains legit no matter wich your speedrun website reference is, SDA being the most tight of them. There is indeed another version of the game (floppy disc) wich was the original one... And also the incomplete one (missing dialogues, Grace sections etc) so... It's as if you tell me that Another World is not the real game since the Snes version because there's more ennemies and a whole extra level than in its original suport Atari ST/ Amiga x) Or maybe you're not talking about the floppy disk version ? =o In this case, what is the "true version" of the game in your opinion ?

With the big warp skip on the beginning, this couldn't be considered a speedrun!
Don't take me wrong but to say that it seems that you don't know what you're talking about ^^'
It's not a cheat code, not a game load, a password or something like that. It is just a shortcut. Someone could think about a "long-path" category of the game in wich he wont use it but the classical category ( known as "any%") just implies to finish the game as fast as possible no matter how, except maybe using data corruption or weird things like that.
If this video can't be considered a speedrun, what about the speedrun of Super Mario Bros 1, 2 and 3, World etc who all use warp zones ? What about Myst ? What About Portal ? The list of exemples is infinite.
I get your point and I understand what bothers you but the established rules about speedrunning just do not agree with you. After all, this speedrun has been verificated, judged and accepted by Speed Demo Archive x)

Anyway, i know exactly what i'm talikin' about, but the title says "REAL SPEDRUN", and this is not, this is a warp excamotage of another version of the game, rejected by fans.
No one here says that you're a cheater, but this is just not "REAL SPEDRUN" IMO!
Well the "real" was here most because there were 2 other videos self-called speedrun on RUclips, but skipping the whole Grace part and editing video to cut every "cutscenes" of the game wich makes it totally illegit, contrary to mine. Once again, I understand your point about this warp but it remains legit no matter wich your speedrun website reference is, SDA being the most tight of them. There is indeed another version of the game (floppy disc) wich was the original one... And also the incomplete one (missing dialogues, Grace sections etc) so...
It's as if you tell me that Another World is not the real game since the Snes version because there's more ennemies and a whole extra level than in its original suport Atari ST/ Amiga x)
Or maybe you're not talking about the floppy disk version ? =o In this case, what is the "true version" of the game in your opinion ?
