Alone in the Dark (1992) - New Speedrun

    Salut l'ami !
    Après une semaine d' insistage intense (mais bien sûr que ce mot existe voyons !), voici la toute dernière version de mon speedrun d'Alone in the Dark. La marge de temps ici gagnée est en grande partie due à l'exploitation d'un glitch permettant de passer au travers de certaines parois. Lorsque j'ai découvert ce bug sur une porte quelconque du jeu je ne pensais pas un instant qu'il aurait une si grande utilité ni même qu'il était possible de reproduire ce dernier à divers endroits du jeu. C'est en montrant pour rire cette découverte à Aqfaq et LotBlind, deux forumeurs du forum SDA, que ceux-ci trouvèrent de nombreux endroits où provoquer et utiliser cette brèche toutefois inutile la plupart du temps. Il n'est cela dit pas exclut que nous arrivions à trouver de nouvelles manières d'exploter le glitch pour raccourcir encore le temps final.
    Jusqu'à ce jour, voici le nouveau meilleur temps officiel.

    Very nice speedrun! I noticed you took some hits from the painting that shoots arrows. I remember there was a weird bug that you could actually somehow reroute the arrow to go through the secret room in the library and get the talisman picked up without going there yourself. It's very hard to do and I got it only once but with that you could make your run even more impressive.

      PokaP, my starting point. Having a message from you is a real honor, and your speedrun was really really great ! Without the glitches (that I did not find by myself xp ), I practically didn't touch anything from the route that you planned in your speedrun. Anyway, I just want to thank you ^^
      This glitch happened to me too one time. Since then I tried to recreate it but I never found any consistent technic to make it work for sure (or at least enough to try it on a speedrun). Also tried with the hawk (because you can reach the library by using the glitch) but didn't get any good results. Besides, you also have to be sure that the arrow/hawk will come back to you after getting the talisman to bring back the camera on the character. Most of the time it stucks in an endless circle. Maybe someone'll find the good way to manipulate the projectile ^^

    I remember playing this game and I was 10 or 11 and took me an entire school year to finish. Some of the puzzles were very difficult for me and to see it done in nine minutes makes me laugh. Great memories. I loved this game.

      Oh, okay then ^^ The time I wrote is from the first input to the last one. But at the end, time does not really matter anyway

    There is a light horror game which hasn't lots of darknesses like most of others horrors. There is a brightness everywhere and it still are dreadful of horrific. Oh my, excellent work. (-_-) (Like 142; Comm 33; View 11085)

      Lorsque je repars de la caverne par là quelques minutes plus tard, je dois faire attention à pas trop courir contre le rocher pendant qu'il s'ouvre sinon il m'arrive exactement la même chose... Ca m'est arrivé quelques fois en fait pendant des essais enregistrés -_-

      libby S Well, it depends what you were looking for. Maybe this video does not show the game properly, it barely passes through it x) The game is still pretty good to see entirely, with all the monsters, books, puzzles etc...

    This is incredible. I've played through this game at least 10 times on various platforms. I never realised there were so many bugs.
    Just curious. When you escape through the worm-tunnels at the end, is it possible to take the route of the wooden bridge that collapses as you cross it? The one you normally have to run across from the other end?

      kablurg Thank you ^^ I did not find all of these, I had a lot of help from really cool guys from SDA forum.
      In fact I thought about using the wooden bridge path during a time. It is indeed totally possible, the desk'll automatically be moved when you'll climb the stairs, but if you don't have the key to open the only door of the room you'll be stuck. After some tests, it seemed that this potentiel path was longer than the one I use right now. Besides, there is this weird bug: when you take the stairs to come back to the mansion from the underground, sometimes Carnby's position isn't good when you're upstairs and he still touches the hitbox of the stairs. In consequence, Carnby'll come back downstairs, wich is a big waste of time. It seems to happen randomly and as far as I know it's impossible to avoid this for sure.

      NintendoHardGamer Interesting! I wonder why they even added a function for that desk moving if you enter the room that way. I suppose it must have been some sort of debug function when they were testing the game.
      Too bad. Since you get that key at the same time as the fake book, I guess it could possibly be a faster way had it not been for that bug.

      kablurg If I remember correctly the time was approximatly the same in my tests (it seems faster but add a lot of movements to do). So yeah, that with the bug made me take the decision. I have to re-do this run (new route) so maybe I'll re-check this path just to be sure if it's faster or not ^^

      Ogat Ramastef You say that because I use glitches huh ?
      Ahah, nope it is not tool-assisted ^^ I'm not even sure I would know how to use tool-assist on DosBox. Thoses glitches are easier to use than it seems, the only thing is to take the good path when you're out of bound, or else Carnby'll lost himself in the nothingness forever... Or sometimes the game just crashes =p

      Ogat Ramastef I have to update this one, some nice co-workers and I found a new way to improve it. I think I could be a run under 9:00, we'll see that. I am more or less ready to do it but I have a lot to do with Monster Hunter 4 =p
      I already did a speedrun of Alone 2, you'll find it by RUclips research or in my channel. About the last one, I planned to do it but I don't have se much motivation for it as the game hasn't any good shortcut, trick or glitch as far as I know. Maybe one day x)

    You know, I thought you did it in the last video. Couldn't beat it. Then you phased through the corner. That just happened. Welp, mind blown again, kudos haha.

      Ahah thank you ! At first I just showed an useless bug that I found against a door (bathroom at the 2nd floor) to 2 friends helping me to find tricks in the game. When I came back in the forum like 10 days later, both of them found like 1 millions places where it was possible to reproduce the exact same glitch. Most of the time it is totally useless but as you can see they found some very useful spots too. Maybe they'll find new shortcuts and I'll be forced to re-do the speedrun again x)

      NintendoHardGamer Just tried to see if I could phase through the front door and cut off even more of the game. Managed to clip through the door but there's just a couple seconds of silence before your character screams and you're dragged off. I did get an interesting glitch though that immediately after you open the door, throw anything at the monster. You'll be in mid-animation when he attacks so he'll miss. You just stand there and the game says "The End" while slowly closing the doors. Was hoping there'd be a way to phase through the door, but doesn't seem like it to me. Oh well.

      I tried things too there. If you manage to avoid the attack and go out before the door swings shut, it'll happen the same thing that if you clip. Funny thing: when you die like that you see the death cut-scene, wich means that the game does not consider that you're killed by the door monster (as the cut-scene does not appear when it eats you). Also during the scene you'll hear Pregzt shoots fireballs as if you were in the room. Weird...

      You mean before RE even existed! Never liked RE, AITD 1 2 3 had that atmosphere that RE never had.

      Well it's a bit exaggerated, but I guess that in term of bug, being abble to get out of the map is kind of a big deal x)
