I never had children, but I always bought little toys like that at Goodwill or garage sales and put them in a big bin in my library. Children who came to my house knew that they could go to the library and choose one toy and one children's book to take with them when they left with their parents. When a friend of mine died, her brothers rented some dumpsters with the intent of just trashing the whole house contents. I happened by and took it upon myself to sort and do what you are doing - bringing loads of perfectly usable stuff to nearby charities, bringing books & music items to the local library, bringing the better items to a high end consignment shop (with proceeds going to the grieving husband, although I should have made sure it got to the eldest child instead), and keeping some ephemera and photos to go through for their children. I still have some of it and when time permits, sort through her art books - only to find her own drawings that have that much more meaning for the kids now. Most recently I found a self portrait she did, and an angel.
Alex you chose the right rooms to start with. The bedroom so they can finally get a restful night's sleep and the living room so they can watch TV, read and relax.🙂
When you brought up that the couple doesn’t have any children, but there is so much baby and kid stuff…broke my heart a little bit. There is so much more to hoarding than just buying and collecting. My grandmother hoarded. She grew up extremely poor and once she became a successful realtor, if she wanted something, she bought it. It was a deep rooted psychological issue rooted in trauma.
They were buying with the idea of reselling, so it's a huge variety of stuff for that reason. But then never did the selling stage. I see what you mean that for many folks,. there's some psychological component.
@@elipotter369 I know, still doesn’t take away from anything I said. Alex made the comment about children and said it is psychological right after. Also, if someone has a psychological fixation on hoarding, then they often do things or come up with ideas to support that, i.e. “buying and selling” but it never actually happens.
@@musictothesoul4life I agree, so true re a "reason". @@elipotter369 I think these people watched just about every reselling video on youtube and learned what was popular to sell. There is obviously the hoarding component, but you're right, they never got around to selling it and then just got addicted to the hunt of the items. There's definitely a psychological aspect to hoarding, but we don't know enough to make judgements like Alex did, unless he knows something we don't? I agree with you.
People that lived thru the depression or people that lived without, sometimes hoard to make the hole in their heart feel better. My mom did and lived thru WW2 but never hoarded, she had zero sentimental attachment to anything. I always thought she was a bit "cold" and I never got her. I have so much emotional attachment to memories and things that it makes it hard to get rid of and she could have cared less. When I became a mother in the 90's we tended to buy too much at thrift and etc and now we at 60 are paying the price for this.... way too much stuff we don't need cluttering up our life. I make monthly trips to the thrift store to get rid of stuff. Collecting things has issues from the past. Always. Always.
I'm watching this for the second time today!! I think the Ronald McDonald rock star tangent was my favorite. I could listen to Paul and Alex riff off each other all day. Good medicine.

I absolutely LOVE this series. It may very well be my favorite, because of how wonderful this is for that couple. They needed help and you're here doing just that, even splitting profits with them! If they can keep themselves from rehorading, which can be so hard, their lives will be immensely improved. Even if this ends up being a loss for you, profit wise, it's such a wonderful this to do. I work in a nursing home and good deeds for the elderly really warm my heart lol
This is going to make such a difference to their lives! One room cleaned is really good progress and there looks to be a good lot of auction items as well!!
You always make me smile, no matter what you tackle you are always positive & kind. You were so right about the Hoarder shows I can’t watch them as I feel so bad for the hoarder- I think their goal is to make good tv whereas you care about the people you are helping
The Hoarder TV shows can be interesting but sad and difficult. But imagine not being well emotionally and physically as many are on the Hoarders TV show and they know people are upset with them and they are expected to make decisions on everything. Hopefully this house much does not have personal ties to the purchased items and thankfully the homeowners are spared the overwhelming task.
@@carolg.6838 It is definitely overwhelming task, my in laws were hoarders. We never pushed cleaning up just made sure they were safe as both were elderly with mental health issues and dementia- clean up took three months after my father in law passed and my mother in law had to go into care. I dearly wish we had an Alexander & his friends to do the clear out- as only companies here to do clear outs would have just dumpster dropped everything. Unfortunately hoarding has become an epidemic - the people seriously need mental health help
I'm happy to see the respect you show the hoarders. I have a hoarder in my life and I know how traumatic it can be for them to see their "treasures" being thrown away. Giving away things to charity really softens the blow.
I just finished watching this, and in a bit we'll be off to charity to get rid of more of our treasures. Is it easy? NO, NO, NO. Do we think it will help our kids later on? I certainly hope so. We originally thought we'd just wait until we were dead to let them deal with it, but that's not really fair. Thank you, Alex, for keeping me going personally by doing these videos. I keep telling myself to detach emotionally. Ugh. However, I know I can't take it with me.
As a kid of parents who have A LOT of stuff, I want to thank you for doing this act of kindness for your kids. I know I won't be so lucky as your children. Honestly, I don't want anything from my parents except for the house to be much less cluttered than it is now. That would be a lovely gift. Since I'm middle- aged at this point, my responsibilities are a mile high and the thought of taking two weeks of vacation days to empty their house is not something I look forward to. My husband and I have emptied one hoarder house and one very filled house for other family members and that is enough for a lifetime. On behalf of alI kids with parents who have clutter, I say thank you very much!
I know it must emotionally taxing on you, but you absolutely can do it! I am so proud of you guys for choosing to give that beautiful gift to your children. Grief is already overwhelming when your parents pass, and dealing with all the stuff left in a collection home is even more overwhelming. I think that is why Alex gets them, as it is harder when it is family. Letting go is hard, but you are right, you can't take it with you.
@@Shelly_B We had to clean out my father-in-laws house after he passed away. There was even all the stuff that was from my mother-in-law who passed 5 years before! In was a nightmare. One of the problems was that goodwill and other charities didn't even want anything. We even ended up throwing brand new stuff in the dumpster. 😥Don't want to do that to my daughters.
I know a couple of people who had a lot of extra emotional trauma dealing with overfull, messy homes after loved ones passed. Determined not to be like that, but my offspring thinks I am the opposite now, and there will be nothing left, except my will in a filing box! Knowing myself, I would have gotten rid of the filing box too, lol!

"No wonder people were having heart attacks on their front lawn." So funny but so true. Love, love, love the 50s geisha doll with wigs. Oh, and that old toaster -- great find. Those work far better than any new one.
I think so many of us enjoy seeing hoards because many times its actually stuff that has some value or u get it for cheap and its old and we all collect something and its important thing to remember to try to keep our collections in control
These are informative videos and you are finding a good balance between documenting the reality of digging a house, and showing respect to the people involved. One thought: it might make a good video scene to put a stop-motion camera, maybe with a fish-eye lens, up in one corner near the ceiling to show time-lapse of clearing the rooms. The ever-moving handheld video can become wearying to watch after a while. Keep up the good work and great content.
6 minutes in, I had that exact CA Custom foot on the gas pedal of my 1969 Chevelle. Even had a tiny foot for the brights. Brought back memories, thanks.
I was going to say there aren't enough minutes in the day to sort through all that stuff but you surprised me! Amazing! Also you made me laugh when you tried on that hat.😁
Bwahahahaha!!! My husband was looking over my shoulder as you got to the end and saw the sewing machine case and asked me if there was a sewing machine in it. That's hilarious!!
I was really skeptical at the beginning of the video that you could get it done, but you DID!! GREAT work!! That extra bedroom looks so awesome. GOOD LUCK dealing with the basement and all those records.
When you said you were going to get this house done in 4 days, I thought you meant by working 24 hours per day. I am shocked you are only doing a regular day's work! Your group of workers are a well trained blessing! You've got this! 💥
Well done team you have done amazingly well today. A lot done and sorted. You are all awesome people who know what to do, when, how and why. Professional clearers, space creators, earth angels. Transforming chaos into order. You could have angel wings on your future removing truck/van/ logo. Love this channel and all of you.
Alex you are so good and efficient at these clean outs and at delegating the tasks. You've got this👍🏼 You needed the foot gas pedal for when you had the Woody wagon. Hang ten 👣🤙🏻
Think about keeping some of the beading/crafty items for your store. Kids love to find items like that. And if prices are low, the parents don’t mind purchasing them!
I hope you put the child’s tea set in the pile to go to auction. I collect them. I would love to see the family make some money back on even the little things that you don’t consider antiques. I believe people will bid on more than you think. What a great thing you are doing for this family!
The sewing machine case in the basement probably belongs to the sewing machine in that room that you just cleaned out. I'm so happy you were doing this for them because like you said on those hoarder shows they have the owners there having a break down watching everything in their house going in a dumpster not being sorted and given to charity. It makes me cry watching those shows.
Incredible!!! You handle the objects with love and care and thoughtfulness of the owners. I love your gentle spirit and respect for the homeowners. God bless you all!
I so appreciate the level of respect shown to the house and the couple in this video. I was nervous from watching Alexander stomp through previous house clearances, but I just adore the gentleness in the process today. Lovely vibe with Paul and Alexander having fun and seeing Melissa and Zinovia working like Trojans in the background to get even more done has created one of the nicest videos of this type from the Archbold stable.
Alex you have made an awesome start!! And isn’t it great to have friends willing to help you? Just a nice thing to know that there is still kindness in this world!! Roll on day two!
I'm impressed how clean everything is! This was the perfect time for the owners to declutter and sell off what they've collected. The tape on what they want to keep is such a good idea ... plan to suggest this to a friend of mine who needs assistance sooner than later.
I'm concerned what's behind the taped doors. imagine one of those is their bedroom and it may have piles of clothes and trinkets to the ceiling. Hope the can get help later to clean those up.
All of those games, puzzles and toys would have been so appreciated at churches, orphanages, nursing homes etc. Be surprised where there isnt budgets for things like that. Alex is such blessing to these people been nice if there had been time to bless some who are in need.
Any blankets that you don't want to deal with, even if torn or stained, can go to a local animal shelter.
Yes they will wash and disinfect.
Thats good to know! :D thanks!
It's also okay to throw stuff away
Was thinking the exact same thing when I saw the blanket in the dumpster!

@@elipotter369 Yes, I think there has to be a happy medium somewhere.
OMG, I had that same gas petal foot in my first car (1968 Chevelle) in 1975! I bought it for my car. I was so proud of it!
*wow!! great job. i'm so glad you're able to work well within the time constraint. sheesh, talk about mastery. you really are something amazing, you know.*
"No wonder people were having heart attacks on their front lawn." So funny but so true. Love, love, love the 50s geisha doll with wigs. Oh, and that old toaster -- great find. Those work far better than any new one.
For resellers, vintage toys are like gold...
I was so glad to see the ladies turn up. Wondered how you and Paul were going to get it all done!
Oh my! I was just about to doze off when Alex uncovered that "hipster head"... My heart jumped and I'm awake again. 😳
Rock'n Roll Paul is such a nice looking man, and I could just listen to him talk all day.
Thank you 😊
WOOHOO! Keep the momentum going! This is going to be such a relief when it's all done and everything has been cleaned up!
I think so many of us enjoy seeing hoards because many times its actually stuff that has some value or u get it for cheap and its old and we all collect something and its important thing to remember to try to keep our collections in control
I love when you and Paul get together 🤣🤣 too funny 🤣🤣
Rock & Roll Paul!!! Awww - so great to see him!
Alex you and Melissa and friends are the salt of the earth...God Bless
Alex you and Melissa have hearts of gold. What a blessing fir the homeowners!
6 minutes in, I had that exact CA Custom foot on the gas pedal of my 1969 Chevelle. Even had a tiny foot for the brights. Brought back memories, thanks.
"Not creepy at all". I burst out laughing.
So did I!
Me too, but I kind of want to buy it so I hope it ends up at the auction.
Me too lol
I was going to say there aren't enough minutes in the day to sort through all that stuff but you surprised me! Amazing! Also you made me laugh when you tried on that hat.😁
Bwahahahaha!!! My husband was looking over my shoulder as you got to the end and saw the sewing machine case and asked me if there was a sewing machine in it. That's hilarious!!
Your channel is the best reality show anywhere! Thanks for the videos!
Better than the Kartrashians.....
I was really skeptical at the beginning of the video that you could get it done, but you DID!! GREAT work!! That extra bedroom looks so awesome. GOOD LUCK dealing with the basement and all those records.
I really feel for all of you ,but it’s so good some is being saved ,you are a hard worker ,you deserve everything, much love an blessings Ann xxx
When you said you were going to get this house done in 4 days, I thought you meant by working 24 hours per day. I am shocked you are only doing a regular day's work! Your group of workers are a well trained blessing! You've got this! 💥
If you need more time pay for the people to stay an extra day in their hotel.
Well done team you have done amazingly well today. A lot done and sorted. You are all awesome people who know what to do, when, how and why. Professional clearers, space creators, earth angels. Transforming chaos into order. You could have angel wings on your future removing truck/van/ logo. Love this channel and all of you.
Cliff, just hanging out at the living room window. 😀
Alex you are so good and efficient at these clean outs and at delegating the tasks.
You've got this👍🏼
You needed the foot gas pedal for when you had the Woody wagon.
If I lived close by I would volunteer my time to sort and separate stuff.
80s Paul, be still my heart!
I remember fondly a Busy Bee from my childhood.
"The other one croaked." LOL!
I need to do some decluttering. Every episode I watch is a little nudge to loose some of my belongings. Nice work you guys. 😊
Loose.... not tight lose... do not know where somrthing is or not win
I think you are the best one to sort out the good things to sell. You are so kind to help that couple. thanks for sharing with us. God bless.
Much respect to you for your efforts to not waste usable things. I get so frustrated when it all ends up in dumpsters
This is going to be a nice fresh start for them !! The house is so nice now they can start living again !
Enjoyed the old pics of Rock n Roll Paul - what a neat knowledgeable friend.
Thanks 😊
Gotta tell you Alexander you're a true Mensch
These episodes are too short. That’s not a complaint, it’s a compliment. 😉
I check Curiosity first thing every morning. I love watching you and your family/crew clean and sort and your commentary is so entertaining!
I was so happy to see Paul and Zinovia! Love the progress your making
Are we sure Paul isn't with the Yakuza?
Alex and Paul are like a double act, sooo funny!😎
You are doing a wonderful job
I had one of those Japanese dolls, many years ago. Forgot all about it, until now. 😊
Thanks for all the awesome things you do!
It’s past midnight here in Australia and I was about to fall asleep but I guess it looks like I’m staying up for at least another 24mins.
I’ll join you.
Its almost half past 3 in the afternoon in the uk
Put the speed on x1.5 so you can get to sleep sooner 😉
Sweet dreams from NZ 💙
2.32am here 😴
Yes us Aussies tend to stay up late to catch Alex and his adventures!
Same here in Melbourne
This house was clean. Some hoarders have stinky messes and the houses have been condemned. You are very good and so is your team. Tina
I’d love to see a reaction video from the owners after the clean-up 😇
Absolutely love these videos. Alex, family and friends are truly wonderful people.
I saw so many things I would expect to find in your shop! This is so interesting.
Roll on day two!
adorable picture of baby Punk Paul!
So excited to watch this. Love getting to see all the helpers together again.
Rock and Roll Paul is such a stud muffin 😍
I like the Cliff Clavin sock doll!!
I know! Rock 'n Roll Paul was doing a great impression too.
Me too its adorable!
I LOVE that Afghan! The bold colors with black around the squares is awesome! Love it, I’d buy that if I saw it in great condition somewhere.
