@user-dn4lg1dv5v thanks. Yeah it was a major fracture. Exploded the ball and my rotator. I can still do some lifting but I can't lift my arm overhead. I do deadlifts, arm work and bench. Have to do what I can for legs, can't get under the squat bar anymore.

    • @user-dn4lg1dv5v
      @user-dn4lg1dv5v 9 месяцев назад

@herculesinwyoming you can still bench press? Just no overhead. What about an SSB bar for squat? Just curious in case I do have to go down this path. Thanks for talking about this.

Your overhead pressing video with Mark Bell taught me how to overhead press. I've added 50 pounds to my 1 rep max barbell overhead press since I started doing it about a year ago. I really like your training videos. I'm sorry you are injured. I think you'll be fine if you just focus on moderate weights and maintaining. Best of luck to you sir!

My husband is 30. Three years ago he tore the labrum and bicep tendon in right shoulder along with severe impingement. And also tore left rotator cuff with bad impingement as well and he hurt it on incline bench and also throwing a baseball hard.
He had both shoulders fixed 6 with surgery. 6 months apart. At the 13 month post surfery mark. He bench pressed 315 for 10 reps. At the 16 month mark he benched 405 at the 18 month post surgery 440 bench press. He was a pro roller hockey goalie. Also had double hip labrum tesr surgery with impingement repair each hip. 4 knee surgeries. 3 sports hernia repairs and two groin and abdominal surgeries.
For 5 of 6 years he couldn’t even workout what he loves to do but the surgeries eventually all healed and worked. He said the surgery would benefit you. You are insanely athletic and strong just like my husband. He suggests surgery and attack the rehab wirh a good trainer

I think your shoulder doctor gave you great advice, Brian. I m a physio student and generally unless you are dealing with a severe traumatology (ie full tears WITH major pain and dysfunction) then surgery should be the last option. The human body has a great ability to heal, with the major caveat that you need to be a bit patient and, in the case of lifting, not do crazy random jumps in weight. I wish you good luck with everything and I am very confident you will make it through better and stronger

Further knowledge and understanding of your shoulder cause and how your bicep tear ended up releasing pressure whilst being able to still have good function of your shoulder movement would help you be more selective on exercises that would benefit your cause of problem in future. I am still recovering from rotor cuff surgery. The front , Lateral and rear was torn completely off the bone. I had a total detachment of the complete rotor cuff. The surgeon here in Orlando said there was nothing he could do, except for a shoulder replacement. I told him I did not want that, so would you just repair it the best u can and I will except that. So he reluctantly did. My surgery was the last Thursday of may 2023. Its still healing and I'm happy with the results. I will do another MRI this may to see how it restored itself. I talk to people who had shoulder replacement and they were constantly having trouble. The surgeon used cadaver tendons and other tissues. It will all work out, Christ is in control.

1st of all, I'm sorry to hear this.
I tore my rotator cuff for a couple of years and I had the surgery last year when I was 42 - the most critical part (key of recovery) is the rehab afterwards.
I live in China and rehab therapy sucks here but I am at the stage that I can OHP with an empty bar already, which is over 10 pounds.
I'm no doctor but personal opinion: the younger I do (did?) the surgery, the better and faster I can heal.
    Best of luck, Brian!

    Hallo Brian.
Thank you for your example of staying positive and inspirational during challenges.
    I love your videos.
    I need advice please.
Your shoulder used to hurt when just lifting your arm.
How do you still get through your training sessions and physical labour?
Do you just work through the pain?
    Do you take NSAIDs?
I have been struggling with an elbow condition for years - had surgery etc, no improvement.
I always try and avoid any movement that causes pain, as when I just work through the pain, it usually just gets worse.
But, that leaves me with very limited exercises I can do, and also with very limited ROM on most of them.
    Thank you!

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  9 месяцев назад

I watched it again today and will try that.
I have a feeling something is pinching though, the doctor that operated also mentioned that, as he could not find any issues.
I think maybe Radial Tunnel Syndrome.
I will pray for pain free training for you as well Brian, you add so much value for so many people.
      Thanks again!

I've had a rotator cuff torn for 16 years now. It's still not symptomatic, most of them are not.
Your rear delt assists in external rotation, and can compensate for it. It just doesn't create space in the joint like the rotator cuff muscles because it pulls up instead of down.
The thing is, you can get space in the joint two ways, one is by moving the humorous away from the scapula, one is by moving the scapula away from the humorous.
So you can compensate. You should aim to keep your rear delts and mid/low traps turned on, and firing to reduce the damage being done in training. You probably sleep on your rear delts, and just like sitting will turn off your glutes, laying on those muscles will turn them off.
Another thing, and I know you don't wanna hear it, but I'm 95% carnivorous. I don't accumulate as much damage from glycation, or my immune system attacking non-nutritive proteins in my joints.
I know that isn't for most people I only do it because I have to, but you should at least consider making more of your diet animal based.

If you need to compete to get it out of your system I think that can be a good thing. You should try and take your greasing the groove method, and incorporate like a face pull for your rotator cuff since that's most likely to be a weak point long term, just supersetted with pull ups.

I feel like there’s something that’s being missed if most of the pain went away when u felt it give way. I’ve felt sensations like this before, I think connective tissue? Or fascia related stuff, but dude if the pain went away maybe it was something that built up to protect you that just broke away and now your mobility is freed up again. I would roll with it. Look into knees over toes guy, he’s really helped me with my knees, and party for my shoulders as well. I believe you’ll be ok. Chuck a shitload of blood in the area and I believe you’ll be alright Brian. Godspeed to u, I’ve learned a lot from you over the last few years

Totally agree with decision If it doesn't hurt, doesn't affect anything you do, why would you get it cut on? (and all of those associated risks and endless therapy). I see surgery as a great choice for the sickcare industry, not so much for you.
lots of people (almost everyone over 50) gets meniscus tears in their knees (old age ain't for sissies). The sickcare industry solution is to go in and cut the tear out. And then you have therapy for months and then it works as well as it ever did. Then I read a study that compared cutting the tear out to doing nothing. Time of pain/healing/functionality ALL THE SAME. There is no value to the surgery at all. The trust is gone.
it doesn't hurt, it still works as well as it ever did. Pffffffffffftttttt don't mess with it. Probably been torn for years. Glad you're feeling great and strong.

The indications are complex, also not the same having a torn supraspinatus, or a torn infra/subscapularis, these last form a force coupling and the shoulder can perfectly function. Sometimes the supraspinatus can function as a spacer not as a mover working properly even operated.
Also not mentioning the re tear rates in the liiterature, is up to 20% or more...
The long head of the biceps is guilty of many shoulder pains, and when ruptured because of degenerative attrition makes the pain go away, with almost no repercusion. Reatachment doesnt guarantee strength, sometimes it can avoid the popeye sign in models, dancers etc... but up to a great percentage the deformity recurs...
You hace alternatives when the cuff is massively ruptured, superior capsular reconstruction, transfers... in our center we have a serie of workers with massive rotator cuff ruptures that get back to work and strength with transfers and superior capsular reconstructions.
You mention arthirtis, but it s differente glenohumeral arthritis, which is inherent to labral damage and massive cuff damage, AC arthritis which can happen with trauma, weight bearing etc, most common.
I am ortho surgeon from spain, following you many years hope that helps

My right one pops more than I would like. It will get a "what was that sound" doing a triangle choke as when my leg is near your ear it makes a pop loud enough the other person can hear it.

I’ve had four operations on my left knee as well. But at least the replacement for that is pretty spot on. They apparently haven’t figured shoulder replacements out nearly as well yet.

My dude if you don’t HAVE TO crack open that waterproof seal, don’t. Nosocomial infections (as you can attest) are no joke. There’s approximately 250,000 people killed every year from doctors, and infections are a big cause.
Had a biceps rupture and got the surgery. Aside from the aesthetics I don’t think surgery helped. The arm still kills and strength isn’t back to 100%. Had a “ream and run” (partial shoulder replacement) because the doc assured me I’d be back fighting, could hit the gym as normal and back to work. After almost a year of the most painful PT I’d ever experienced, I was involuntarily retired. It’s been a few more years since and the pain and sleeping still sucks and I’m no where near back to normal in the gym. But the jokes on them I’m living the dream in warmer weather lol.
The wall looks good too bud.

Most people are walking around with torn rotator cuffs, but they are never symptomatic so they never get an MRI. As long as it doesn't affect your every day life I'd be hesitant to get surgery. There are studies about the number of people with torn rotator cuffs; try to find them.

Idk man I’ve got though shoulder surgery after I suffered a crazy training accident. Coupled with arthritis. It didn’t help at all. I chose the to the fundamentally rebuild the rom and strength. through the application of many different strength modalities. And well as stem cells and peptides. It’s been 8 years. Right shoulder never dislocates now. And I almost never have pain. I say almost because I’m constantly doing too much

I wonder if the knees over toes approach to rehabilitating that shoulder would be beneficial

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  8 месяцев назад

Unfortunately, there is no rehabilitating. It’s literally just broke and I’m going to live with it because the alternative is worse.

Sounds similar to when Mark Bell ‘blew out’ his knee, was told the surgeries he needed and the implications. He did nothing and let the body heal what it could, has since squatted and deadlifted above 600 and run marathons. That’s not the story for everyone, but it could be for you.

May be worth looking into stem cell. Cheaper and more effective than it was 5 years ago

I recommend add steel mace or clubell to your training.
Both are great tools if you have any issues with shoulders.
Also adding some kettlebells exercises like turkish get up or bottom up press are good idea 😁
    Greetings from Poland 💪

I think I’m going to do this. I’ve heard enough people recommend it, but I think it is a smart move.

My shoulders never felt better since I started using steel mace 😁
Also stuff from Ben Patrick a.k.a Knee Over Toes Guy are amazing for shoulders.
Skin The Cat on gymnastics ring also is a amazing exercise but be careful.

Brother, check out stem cells. Multiple pro athletes have had shoulder tears repair themselves with stem cells. It may be a long shot, but a shot worth investigating if replacement is the estimated future!

From what you said I wouldn't go to surgery. Not because I know it's better but because if you are wrong you will accept it. But if you talk yourself into getting surgery and something will go wrong you will be mad as hell.

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial

Coaching is my primary focus. I didn’t think the weights were that heavy. And I didn’t hurt myself lifting, I hurt myself doing construction.
