  • DON'T Try this without ASKING your surgeon first! This strap modification may provide some relief to your neck if your shoulder strap is digging in. After rotator cuff repair surgery the most common frustration among my patients is the shoulder strap for the shoulder sling. It cuts into the neck compromising bloodflow and causing neck pain.

Does or can this also work for a full standard shoulder replacement? Please respond as my surgery is in 72 hours! On 7/10/2024….

Why not make another nylon strap with Velcro on it that would attach somewhere up behind the neck and then go down and under the right arm (in your situation) and attach to the waist pad or sling. Then lengthen the original strap, and then tighten up that slack with the new one that goes under your arm. That would change the direction of pull in the neck area.

The viewer can’t see what you’re doing because you’re wearing a dark navy shirt with a black sling and the cameras far back you have valuable information but it’s worthless if we can’t understand or see what you’re doing

Omg! You’re a life saver! For 1 thing, by watching your video, I realized most of my discomfort came from my surgeon’s office not properly seating my elbow in the corner of my sling, so the weight of my dangling wrist & hand pulled my arm into a lowered position. I had no one at home to help reseat & adjust my sling to include your modifications, but though challenging with 1 hand & a lot of Velcro, I finally managed. Although it does put pressure on my shoulder, at least I’m no longer choking between the sling strap & cold therapy shoulder cuff/sleeve. Thank you!

One week post op today & I survived the sling!! 7 more weeks to go!!!🥴 I have some great ideas for Donjoy!!! How about making the sling another color, like grey?? Do you know how difficult it is for us old people to see black straps, black clips, black buckles…black anything against a black background?!?! Especially in these videos!!! Another idea would be to color code the straps/clips origin and insertion points so we can figure out what goes where!! I’m a retired LPTA with 25 years experience in geriatrics, but didn’t appreciate what pts go through until this week!!! TY for your videos. Try the color coding when you update!! 😉

These are brilliant ideas!!! Donjoy won't change, but I wonder if some of the off-brand companies would take your ideas into consideration.
The sling I bought for this video only cost around $30 and was just as well made as the Donjoy.

Black is awful for 2 reasons in my case. Animal hair seems to gravitate toward it and also when it is hotter then the hubs of hell with awful humidity black is not ideal . Thank you so much for your videos. Had my 1st RCS 13 years ago. Recently had to have a revision repair after I fell and messed it all up.

GREAT!!!! Thank you. My orders are now to wear the sling outdoors and when sleeping only for protection. This will be so much more comfortable.

I had shoulder repair from a fractured dislocated that didn't heal. Is there a better solution for my sling wearing on the waist for curvy ppl and pain relief in the arm itself ? Ty

Akkkk! Where were was this idea $100.00 dollars ago ! Lol ! great suggestion here. I purchased another sling with a harness type strap that took the pressure off of my neck. I didn’t like the sling portion but managed to connect both new strap and old sling together to have one comfortable abduction sling. Thankfully I’m on my last week of needing the sling but I would happily changed up the strap to your suggestion to take the pressure off of my neck. Thanks for all of your educational tips they’ve made this journey a tad bit more doable.

Hi Tony ,thanks for the great videos mate, I have a question if you could please help with it, after my six weeks in the sling, I went back to surgeon after an ultrasound. I was informed that I couldn’t start phase 2 of the exercise because my supraspinatus tendon was paper thinn , so I’m in the sling for longer. Any advice on what to do. Thank you in advance.
