This seems like a Love letter to A Valley Son. This new material has been amazing.

This is the first time I've not wanted to buy the new Grandaddy album. Why is everything so slowly and dreary?

The album as a whole is a Grandaddy version of old country music waltzes with the sad and sweet tones that come with old country lyrics blended with the synthesizers and guitar work of Grandaddy's sound. It's not for everybody, but I enjoy the concept behind it and listening to it in context of it being country music styled, it feels like Jason hit the nail on the head with the intent. Tracks like "Ducky, Boris, and Dart" and "You're Going To Be Fine and I'm Going to Hell" I feel are good examples of the intended style of the album. tl;dr This album is Grandaddy sound in Old Western Waltz style

I had the same thoughts at first. I just had a nice bath and thought I’d put it on….. I really enjoyed it! Just shows that sometimes you have to be in the right frame of mind

I also felt this when I first bought it, I felt quite disappointed. But subsequent listens have revealed a thing of beauty. Let’s face it, Jason’s written plenty of pop bangers in his time, and I’m sure he’ll do more again, but this is what he wanted to do this time and it really works.
