  • After shooting 35mm focal length for the past couple of years I've decided to go back to my favorite... the 50mm. I'll share some of the shots I've been getting recently and share my thoughts. Enjoy.

    Hey Ted, I like shooting street with the 35 and 28, however, I do use the 50 1.4 at night. It's good to see you shooting again, great shots keep 'em coming! JT

    Hi Ted, as always your posts are at the top of my watch list. You’re so right about the 50mm. I always recommend my students who attend our workshops, to start with a 50. I’m now using the new 50 Lux on an M7 and an M11-P and it’s almost ‘glued’ on those cameras.

    Hi Ted.
    Timely video.
    Just acquired 35mm f2 fuji 50 mm equivalent partly based on your old review from when you rocked this lens.
    Am a bit behind the times due to budget but heading out from UK to Washington DC and New York and very thankful for this opportunity.
    Hope to try out some street too.
    Keep it going man from a long term subscriber 😊

    You are correct about the 50mm. It is actually quite a difficult focal length to shoot well. Its not wide to include a lot and make the scene look busy, nor is it long to draw the attention easily and focus on the subject. It neecs perfect framing and placement of the subject to be effective and that is probably why a lot of today photogeaphers shy away from the 50.

  • @philipculbertson55
    @philipculbertson55 Месяц назад

    Yeah, I love the 50 myself. I struggle a bit with the 24 or 35 but the 50 almost always just feels right.

    I think 50mm works great for street photography, depending on your environment and what look that you, as an artist, are wanting to create. Portland looks great through the lens of your 50mm v4 Summicron. I have the V5 from the mid 90s that i also love -- same optical formula as the V4.

      Hey Rob, good to see you, man. No, I still take editing photos one image at a time, case to case basis. Since I have been shooting digital I do spend more time at the computer. Not a lot though. Just a few adjustment tweaks and that's about it. The more processing I do, the less I end up liking the image. I think the look I come up with is more like Tri-X than ACROS. It's been fun. Looking to getting back to shooting more film soon. Take care, brother

      Me too, each photo gets its on edit
      However since you like those film looks check out Exposure 7 , man I use that for years now and had the most versatile choices of old film looks.
      From there you have an unlimited choice in editing further to your taste.
      They have a free trial period, check them out

    Hi Ted, how ya goin'? Around Town ( Melbourne ) 24mm 1.4 streets aren't that wide, lots of dim alleyways. Otherwise 50mm or longer. I'm glad you're saving some money on film.....😁

      @TedVieira  Месяц назад

      😆yeah man, saving some money on film these days. I did see where Kodak dropped Tri-X back down to $9.99 (US) again. That may become my goto film stock. But yeah, enjoying the M262. Very cool about 24 1.4!

    Love your photography man, and relaxing music. And pro quality video. That is why I subscribed. But but but have to say ,given a choice of only one lens 28 mm all-day my friend that would be my go to. Just can't get in to the 50mm at all. I have numerous copies for different cameras just doesn't do it for me. Anyway still love and watch all ur stuff. Best wishes from Ireland

      @TedVieira  Месяц назад +1

      Yeah, I know a lotta cats that shoot with 28. That, and the 24 can really give you some pretty exciting stuff. I remember a while back when I was doing all my street stuff with the original Fujifilm X100 - fixed 35mm lens. Man, That was a blast to shoot with. Then if I shot with 50, it felt a little to tight. But, I am enjoying the 50 these days. Always something different.

    I'm on the lookout for a M10, preferably a P. I'm a 50mm guy, since my Pentax K1000, bought new. I think shooting 50mm on the street makes life a bit more difficult, while a 35mm gives you just a bit more room. That's my take.

      Yeah man, I hear from a lot of cats that shoot with 28. I can see the attraction. It can get pretty exciting when you can shoot that wide (or wider?).

    • @justin4n6
      @justin4n6 Месяц назад +1

      @@TedVieira when I bought my Sony 10-18 I grew to really like that range. Now I find myself not grabbing it as much and leaning towards the range I mentioned.
      But it's nice to be able to capture everything in a tight space and tell the story of the scene and not just a small portion. But at times I do like to just capture an element of a scene.
      I don't think I could ever just use one lens forever but I do enjoy challenging myself to a focal length.
