I'm just a hobby welder, but it always amazes me that one weld can take an entire day to complete.
depends on how slow you are. knock 4 of them 42 a 6 hour day
If it leaks it's a bomb. That's why they xray every weld.
Mike L: I’m sure that you will satisfy your curiosity when you do pressure weld on large bore, heavy wall pipe
@@danielt8793 42 inch welds, depending on wall, take over 3 hours each. Your talking out your ass
@@jamesgetman3400 i wouldnt hire him
I know this video was probably a pain to make but, as a student and soon pipe chaser this is the like gold information. Thank you so much appreciated.
I agree I love all of Austin's videos but ones like this were we can actually see how the process is done in the field is so helpful. Very hungry for more videos like this one
agreed.
You like chasing pipe,huh bro?
@@joeblow7636 thats my job lol chasing the pipe bigger the better hahaha just some pipeline r
trash i guess
Where u study pipe welding ? What state and what's the school name. Also, how much coast and the period u get to learn.. Thanks bro
There is something very relaxing about being out in the field with your team of hard working guys. There is so much going on here, pride, skill, team work, honesty and respect. Love it!!
Tell me you have never welded without saying so. Hard working...that some funny stuff
One thing I've noticed, every professional no matter what the skill moves with deliberate purpose and everyone knows their job. Rarely do you get the one guy screaming and talking down to someone else. At a certain level you get a level of mutual respect and that is golden. Nothing makes a job suck more than feeling like you are expendable
Have you tried that Flex Tape?.. they can make a boat with it...
They're working with a pipe so they need Flex Seal
I’m dead
LOL
I'm sorry but that Flex Tape Boat... I SAWED THIS BOAT IN HALF!
We were grounding manholes in Florida one day, the water table was about 7 feet, the hole itself was 8 ft in the ground, when we punched a ground rod through, water shot out of the hole like a geyser non stop, the fucking super suggested Flex seal🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ “I sawed this boat in half!”🤣🤣🤣
I’m an engineer who worked in power plants for 45 years. I worked along side with pipe fitters and welders all the time. They do precision work in very difficult positions and make it look easy. Great group of guys (and women!). I learned a lot from them and still do some home welding projects myself.
i did pipeline over the summer and i have such respect for the welders who do this almost everyday🙏🏼🙏🏼
Just gonna say I’m not even a welder and I absolutely love this channel. Always curious about other professions, by far the best RUclips welder. Keep up the good work!
Fitter here. Brandon Hoggins is the best welder i have had the pleasure to work with.
Union brothers and sisters stay strong thru the years coming
Thanks Austin for sharing with us. I learned that I I am a little bit to old for being a pipeline welder. I think I’ll leave it for the younger generation. Keep up the good work and videos, I ain’t too old to watch. Thanks for allowing us to ride along. Fred. 👏🏻👏🏻👍👍
Austin, you haven't worked not one day, this is your passion, Good for you brother, keep these awesome vids coming.
That's a lot of welding. I have newfound respect for the guys who made the pipelines (including one 28" with several flanges) for our lab.
Have made thousands of these welds. Nothing like being on a tie in crew. Ohio and pa were the easy states, West Virginia is tough. And most anyplace out west. Love this type of work. Been in trench boxes in mud and water loving it. Be safe fellow welder.
Fellow West Virginia hand here. I always like to say “where I’m from you can look up the chimney and watch the cows come home 😂😂”
They don't teach students what they need to learn that's the problem. Thanks for telling the truth. It's not a year and go. It takes alot. Thank you.💓💓💓💓💓
Ive never welded on the pipeline but being a millwright ive welded and built alot of stuff and ran alot of smaller pipe but i give these guys the up most respect i tip my hood to you guys
Im an industrial electrician and ive been watching your videos a while now enjoyed the content and monday i start my first pipeline job ever after 5 years of electrical ima dabble in some pipeline work gotta open my craft experience up ive done elctrical insulation painting and scaffolding in the idustrial level now im gonna test myself and my f350 in the pipelines as a linemen for a small crew in pecos texas
Worked as a swamper on the Portland and maritime pipelines in Maine back in 98 and 99. Worked with the ozzy padder..awsome machine..got a little seat time with it.
Good video. I’m not in this industry, but am always interested to learn something new, especially around welding and fabrication. Learning something new is always a good thing.
I don't know about anybody else but this impresses the hell outta me! I had an old buddy years ago that worked on the Alaskan Pipeline.
Hey Austin. I work in sales so your videos are so interesting to me. Thanks for sharing and keep up the hard work. We do appreciate it.
Very cool, makes me miss the days of working on the pipeline down by the border here in Texas.
We mostly did 10", 8", and 6" pipe - rarely stuff that big.
Thats exactly what I wanted to see. Thanks for providing this video. Please provide more the same please. Thank you. 👍👍👍
Really loving your videos. I'm amazed at how clean you keep you leathers even when welding overhead.
Thank you for this low interrupted footage. People need to see the length of process rather than just "glamour shots" that make welding look cool. Fabricating and welding is a highly critical operation that doesn't tolerate shortcuts and laziness.
Hello dear colleague, your academies are really great and your workshops are full of content. In my country, all the principles are observed according to international and American standards. Good luck.
Greg Nalls was the winner of the winter bundle!! Congrats Greg!
How hot do you have to preheat that???

i like ur video boss, may i ask if how to make a welding mask just like yours....thanks hope you to answer back....

It's a pancake hood. Look on line. They sell a bunch of different kinds. It's kinda a downhill thing. Keeps the fire off side of your head
Too bad we didn't get a shot if the finished weld...

So helpful to see how y’all adapt to positioning for efficiency and probably comfort. The pipeline guys are so important to our country. God bless you ALL! Hopefully after November you’ll be busier than ever!
Dang son the biggest weld I've ever made is 20' ...I'm,from the Corpus Christi,Tx Refineries now in the HVAC trade in Austin,Tx.since I started weldin Pipe in the late 1990's but in the HVAC trade 20" is about the biggest you gunna see,....so jealous!!!LOL I Love weldin pipe no Matter what size it is today as a matter of fact I was weldin 5" Sch80 steam pipe for a bldng in Austex! I wanna do pipeline welding myself and this video was gold. thank you for sharing.
GOD, I miss this! There is no better job than a pipeline fitter/welder! Parkinson's and COPD took me out of it after thirty five years. :(( This video brings back fond memories! :))
Very professional. I'm glad I had the privilege of seeing this video.
Man everyone there is really good at their job. Thank god for welders helpers
Really liking this video! Keep up the hard work man! Loving the channel.
Thanks again Austin! Great video. Excellent work!
I want to do this so bad. I've never been a welder but I'm positive I've found my passion!
Very cool! Thanks for taking us along.
When you go back to working, these are the kinds of video I like to see.
Ok so I asked questions a little prematurely. Lol I'm a structural ironworker of 24 years, and I want out ! I've been building a weld trailer for over a year now. I've got pretty much , close too all the tools I need. Other than a flatbed and a larger machine. I'm running a bobcat 225. Last year I went got my 6G cert. Past it on my first try . I've tried like hell to get on a pipeline as a helper bit no luck at all. Everytime I'd walk up on a site , the man would ask ," who sent you? And who do you know?" My answer was always. Nobody . N that would end the interview every time. It looks to like it if you're not somebody's son , brother , uncle , nephew, or friend of the family. You ain't nobody. Fort Worth Texas here. Take care.
You guys earn every penny or a dime that's a days work I bet you don't have trouble sleeping respect my friend.
Regards
Steve UK London
Welded Construction was the first pipeline contractor I ever worked for back in 1986. We had 30 miles of 36 inch at Mount Union, Pennsylvania for Texas Eastern. Elvis Ralph was the welder foreman.
Welded filed bankruptcy a couple years ago.
We just installed some 16 and 20” underneath that very 36” line a couple days ago in Chester Co.
Respect for posting this. Built the fracking skids, and I mobile repair them but I never worked the pipe
I like videos when he goes to the job site and when he does anything while he’s on the road.. entertaining
gettin ready to start the 18 week training for my local pipe fitters union pretty exited to get out on my first job

Oh Shi man you got the job ! Badass bro, congrats and I'll keep watching your videos man! Good Shi
I remember those days, 30 plus years retired now but I still have my pancake hood, brings back a lot of memories.
Hey. Good work! I'm from Russia, Siberia. I work by pipeliner in oil and oil products transportation company - Transneft. I have the same job, of course some things are different. There is a specific tool for the job. The work is dirty, hard, but I like it. Best of luck!
Loved that video hope you do more like that keep up the hard work
Hey man love the videos!!! Make sure you're safe in the pit... Never know what can happen, always wear your hardhat!
Thank you for informing us and helping us learn about pipe welding
This is one of your best video's, would like to see more like it.
Awesome video!! I like to hear about what happens after yall are done with that joint.
Nice thanks for this one. Learned a lot
I really enjoy this kind of videos, Keep it up maestro.
Awesome! I would like to see the finished welds and love seeing the onsite videos, keep em coming!
I know it seemed a longer video then usual, but as something that has always been fascinating to me, this video went by FAST.
Man im just a hobbyist welder when you said it took 14rods (8 and 6) to tack it i had to go beck and watch it again to make sure and im still not convinced i understood right😂😂 really cool video
Don't forget to knock out that hi-lo.LOL.That is some crazy thick pipe, lot of metal going in there.Great Skilz.
Mr. Ross. Thank you for your effort.. God bless you and your family ✌👊😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
You sound like you want to take a bubble bath with him.not surprised, you look like you pass out ghb to school kids on Halloween sir chomo.your the type of guy to fart in the bathtub and bite the bubbles.
I wish more welders were as polite and positive as you seem to be. Many of the welders I’ve met across my travels are angry and rude for seemingly no reason other than they know they’re welders.
Ya it seems that way I know. Idk why either. Iuckily ive met more good people than angry people since I’ve been doin this.
Great job. This year I plan to educate myself on welding and look for work next year
Did you do it?
Yeah, did ya do it?
Awesome videos! Appreciate your content.
Thanks. I’m glad you like the videos.
Man I quit welding school after i passed vertical. Watching you work on the field is giving me second thoughts.

Easy welding in the wide open and you even got a man to hand u rod and grind.
What a sweet gig you have there.

This is awesome love your videos thanks man
I’m in my first year of welding and becoming obsessed this is just cool as shit haha
Lotta respect for what you guys do, anyone can slap a bead in a nice shop on a stand, takes some nuts getting at it out there!
Great video A Ross
Nice. A go pro inside your helmet would be super cool. Might help some of these guys get up to speed. That video was perfect otherwise glad the guys let you film like that .
Hella dangerous work!
Would like to have seen the finished weld.
Another cool thing about excavators and back hoes are the big spline gears on the track let you know which way the controls will work. If you have the gear towards the front of the cab the controls are reversed and if it behind you the controls are normal.
Awsum work buddy , i like watch ur videos , keep up the good work , mis workin on them lines
Hello dear colleague, I want to congratulate you for the effort and great dedication with which you make your videos.
Awsome video. Keep up the great work
I miss those days did that for 34 years best job I ever had.
A job that civilians take for granted they just turn on their stoves and expect it to get there they don't even know how might just takes for them to get gas to their homes. Very respected trade! Y'all keep up the good work
This means a lot. Thank you for sharing. You’re exactly right. A lot of people are very uneducated.
Y’all boys was making America great again
I'd like to see your cap pass. Also your root , do they ultrasonic after grinding the root? Why not a wire weld after the manual root pass? 6010/7018 on the root? Keeping the keyhole open all the way up? Just wondering?
Welded Construction. Man that's a throwback.
I miss my job upon watching this vids. Great job Sir!
Cool bro thanks for the video.
YES WE WOOD LIKE TO SEE THE FINISHED WELD 💪😎
Man I wanna do this so bad. Can’t wait to finish welding school, get some experience and buy a rig.
Nice!! The gazebo was because it was raining? And as you was tacking the guy that passed you a rod, what was those wires meters he had, temp gauge?
Man o man that smell of diesel, 6010 and raw dirt gives a blue steel hard one. Brings back some great memories.
Track excavators have more weight on the end of the tracks where the “drive sprocket” is. You always want you drives behind you when doing heavy work. Basically... Only time you want the drives up front is when you are tracking up a steep grade.
Hi warm greetings. Hope you're doing great over there?.. I'd like to be a friend with an amazing person just like you if don't mind.I have investment proposition you could play in. It is the new advent of cryptocurrencies. If you're interested, It will be great to have a chat with you in exchange of thought concerning this investment opportunity.
I'd love to get paid to weld. I picked up the welding bug long time ago when I bought my powerarc welder.
the welding bug is a bitch aint it.. Expensive hobby if you love it as much as i do lol.. 2000 pound welding machine for starters haha
