The story and characters in Mafia 3 outshine the lackluster open world. If you go into the missions as setups to take down each chain in command its really cool. First mafia game to give you that true feeling of grass roots Mafia Boss.
Imo the game was super average all the way around. The characters were pretty well done but the story is just a run of the mill revenge story, while the game has some bit of being a mafia boss it's really not much you just divvy out areas for rewards other then that very little decision making. I thought the DLCs were pretty fun but the main missions absolutely stink you do the same thing over and over.
Which sucks because mafia 2 had a great open world and interact-ability even though you didn’t get the best chance to explore it because of the story structure and no free roam mode like 1
True, btw Mafia III is an open world and therefore the point of an open world game is about the open world in it. I personally find most of the linear mission sections a bit meh.
I had SO much fun playing Driv3r with my cousin when we where young! countless hours trying to find the fastest and coolest cars in Miami and Nice, or stealing a big truck and rampaging hitting other cars in Instanbul. Playing the game years later was a huge let down, but, i still have these fond memories from back then when such a simple game brought us so much fun!
100% me and my buddies spent so many hours just sliding around nice, highlight was to get a semi with a trailer at the nice spawn pop the trailers rear tires and then fishtail it down the road trying to s.ash as many cars as you could with the trailer
Mafia 3 was actually good for me. What frustrated me from Mafia 1 and 2 was the fact that they felt like open-world games (especially Mafia 2) but they really weren't, and a lot of stuff from the map was gorgeously designed but completely useless once you completed the mission (that actually happens a lot in GTA 5 and Rockstar doesn't get as much crap about it). I actually liked that in the Mafia 1 remake you can actually tour all of the map (unlike the original Mafia 1), but still a lot of places become inaccessible once you're done with the missions. I hope Mafia 4 retains the true open-world nature of Mafia 3, but refines it.
I feel the same thing. We need more places that can be accessed inside and more side activities and missions. A lot of open world games fail to do this.
i just hope they don’t reuse areas. I remember being super frustrated in mafia 3 because at first it seems like you can go off and do you’re own thing cleaning out random enemy areas. Expect if you cleared out and area before the mission that uses the area you just have to redo everything it’s like you’ve never been there before. A simple fix would just be those places don’t have enemies until the mission is triggered
Yeah mafia 3s open world was amazing, there were many interesting areas and felt just like the 60s. The issue with that game was the repetitive missions not the open world
Thanks for mentioning GTA5. I was so disappointed after playing through the story that I went back to GTA SA to have more fun with the explored map and activities there than the current GTA version

@@I_killed_that_beard_guy i think they only do timestamps on factual videos like 'new games of June' or similar. On top 10s like this which are more opinion based, i think they leave them out to encourage watching through it, like avoiding spoilers of what games are included. Just my guess tho.
I agree with most of the points, but Mafia 3, I don't think it failed from open world. I loved driving around, viewing the city, listening to the music. I just wish the gameplay wasn't so repetitive. Imagine, Mafia 3 mixed with GTA style missions. Be incredible! :D
I love Mafia 3. The sewer network and hidden paths within buildings give the map so many layers and gives you so many ways to accomplish you mission. It feels like a world planned by a civil engineer and not a game designer. In many ways, I prefer the Mafia 3 map over GTA V.
I loved Driv3r as a kid. I never played the missions, just used cheats and had fun. Also the bugs were cool. Near the airport in Nice you could fall through the ground into what i called the shadow realm. You land somewhere under the map and when you drive out of the area you get catapulted hundreds of meters into the air and across the map
It blew my mind back then, while exploring, that wothout a hint or anything suddenly I was in front of a garage I could open, where a unique car was in. I loved stuff like this. A world that really wanted to be explored.
Same. I loved running around that map and looking for collectibles, and the levels were very fun. After playing that game I decided to buy the original because I liked Catalyst a lot.
Driv3r was great for kids like me, who had parents that wouldn't buy them GTA 3 at release. Easier to convince them that it was just a mature racing game, so it holds a special place in my heart. Also hunting down all the Tommy Vercetti clones was pretty fun.
Oh those guys, the many Timmys were Tommy Vercetti clones. It was a dig at GTA Vice City. Rockstar actually responded by putting some dialogue in GTA San Andreas about the badness of Driv3r in the mission Mad Doggs Rhymes to. 🤣
I love the Mafia series, even Mafia 3 despite how repetitive it becomes. The only thing I wish they did differently was add more “original” missions to break up the monotony of capturing districts. Also, just pressing B and making the district’s boss come to their knees before killing them was the biggest letdown of all 😔
I never played 2 but really liked 3. A pretty underrated game. I need to play the remaster of 1 because I remember playing it on ps2 and getting insanely frustrated.
@@grigoregruesome3606 ye the ps2 version was insanely difficult. The remaster is definitely worth it to pick up if you haven’t yet… it’s only like 15-20 bucks.
The repetition of Mafia 3 would have been less of a problem if there was some actual character progression. Being able to develop new skills and abilities would have kept me playing until the end.
I had never tried gta3 and didn’t have a PlayStation so ended up with Driv3r on Xbox instead. I’ve spent crazy hours in that game and absolutely loved it. The first time finding the GoKart track was one of my fondest moments in video gaming. Now having played GTA I totally get what you are saying. But Driv3r will always hold a special place in my heart regardless of how terrible it actually was.
I feel like Mirror’s Edge Catalyst gets a lot of unnecessary hate from people for being open world, but you know for a fact if they tried to be linear like the first game people would complain that it’s not open world. The gameplay is great, story can be a bit cringe, but the missions and the time trials were super fun. And the online was super competitive as well. Not to mention it’s graphics and scenery is timeless.
yeah from people who have no brain ... I'm so fed up with some low IQ people who think that LESS content is better. if you dont want the open world, just DONT EXPLORE! it's really that simple ... you can always ignore the "boring" content, but you can't add content that doesn't exist. I take a "boring" open world over button bashing linear game any time.
@@SethiozProject Some games just get unnecessary hate, then people later find out that it's a hidden gem only after going back to it. Days gone is a good example, it didn't do too good in reviews but they were just plain bs and biased takes. The game was actually really good with almost perfect voice acting and story arch. Gameplay was fun as well, and there were tons to do after you beat the story.
I was literally going to comment about this. Like how the hell was Catalyst open world bad. The only thing he talked about that resonated with me were the bugs. I didn't experience much but bugs are always a negative. So he got that. Everything else was better. Being able to just go out there and see how fast you can get form any point A to point B. The combat was super improved. Grappling hook. A GTA wanted system that was actually fun to play with. The first game was fun. I loved it. But to say that Catalyst was anything other than an upgrade is the wrong opinion.
@@SethiozProject Hey man, button mashers are my guilty pleasure kinda games. If I'm not feeling well, get destroyed in a multiplayer game, or don't feel like playing much of anything, I'll load up Dynasty Warriors. Just not 9. But I do agree with the first part of your statement, to some extent. I don't agree with calling people brain-dead because they try and don't like an open world game. You may as well chase them off gaming for good at that point, since you don't advocate them trying to branch out and have fun. I don't like overly linear games much (aside from Pokémon), but I'll play some of them. Why? Sometimes the story is worth it.
Ya know I've been watching this channel for many years now, and I gotta say my favorite thing about them, is how varied their videos are. No two of their lists ever feel the same, they talk about so many different games that don't get attention from other channels like this and it's great. I've even checked out some games they've mentioned that I never knew existed. Keep up the amazing content Gameranx, much love over here.
Exactly man! So glad i found this channel, its the main thing i watch on RUclips. I've now played Sleeping Dogs and the Wolfenstein games purely because of gameranx videos, and plan to play more of their suggestions like Mad Max
I disagree on Mafia 3. It had a rather interesting open world that was fun to drive around in, and locations that were fairly unique. It's always interesting driving around in that game, going from one side of New Bordeaux to the other and seeing how the world changes, getting cleaner and more elegant as you go, or vice versa. They also really did their homework in terms of capturing the 60's aesthetic. Mafia 3 makes me feel like I stepped back in time to what New Orleans probably looked like in 1965 or so.
Play Mafia 1 and 2. You'll see why it's such a disappointment. It's a downgrade in every aspect of the game. The first thing that will hit you is that you can do almost any crime you want while the police is doing nothing. Speeding suddenly isn't a problem anymore. You can't repair engines, damage physics are even better in Mafia 1, you can't refuel et cetera. It's just a terrible game that spits on everything that made the Mafia series special. If you bought it second hand for 10 bucks and haven't played Mafia before, it sure can be very enjoyable. But to me, besides the epic soundtrack it's a terrible game. It was so bad that the series seemed to be doomed. But this month they surprised us with a new Mafia game being developed. People don't have any expectations about it but if they don't implement the things from Mafia 1 and 2 that made the game special it'll just be a waste of money to buy new. Mafia 3 was awaited by many. It sold very well the first weeks. But when we all saw how terrible it was nobody bought it anymore. So yeah it really is terrible, way more than told in this video. You should buy the trilogy for cheap, play Mafia 3 first and then Mafia 1 and 2. Quite enjoyable. Mafia 3 was the only game I ever sold. Bought it back for 15 bucks as the trilogy pack only because I wanted to listen to that music again. It's just unfindable in that quality.
@@12123188 Having played them all, I can say that while 3 isn't as strong, you're underselling it due to a strong bias and need to hop off your high horse
@@jamstheshapeshifter so I need to drop off my high horse because a 7th generation console game from 2010 beats an 8th generation console game from 2016 in almost every aspect while a game from 2002 also beats it in many ways? I'm sorry for having expectations🤷🏻 It's just unacceptable that they couldn't implement all the stuff that made the Mafia series special. Talking about being biased, you can't say that after reading everything I wrote. It wasn't just a rant against Mafia 3 at all. I've explained how and why, argued about the pros and cons. So please explain?
@Jams The Shapeshifter There's really good comparison videos between Mafia 1&2 and they actually show how much Mafia 3 is missing... it's not just opnion.
Mirrors Edge is fantastic, I wish more games weren’t afraid to be single player good games like it. Catalyst’s open world isn’t mind blowing, but I was more upset the story was rebooted. One game was all it had to follow, why reboot? I never had any bugs playing it, and I do enjoy it, but the flow and feel of the first is one of my all time favorites.
Agreed, the story and time period change was dumb, going through parts of the city in catalyst didn't even feel like a city. Just an arrangement of blocks. Like, who would live here?
I actually quite enjoyed Homefront: The Revolution. It definitely had some issues but I thought the story was decent enough to make me wanna continue playing. Then the DLCs were pretty good too in comparison and it was nice to get a VA for the player character in that too
My only gripe with HomeFront: The Revolution was that the characters were really bland and generic. Like super one-dimensional. It made playing through the game pretty unmotivating. Gameplay was fun tho, I liked gunsmithing my pistol into a SMG on the fly.
I would say that L.A. Noire belongs on such a list as this. It was a good point-and-click adventure styled game in a 3-D space with action elements but the open world did little to add to the game outside of providing opportunities for virtual tourism in early 20th Century California.
L.A Noire didn't force you to navigate the open world though as there was an option to have your partner drive the car and skip straight to your destination. This meant it could be played in a more linear way than other open world games.
@@monstermash5969 yeah they KNEW the open world was pointless. The game in VR makes more sense since you can actually kinda view the city better... but its still an entirely pointless game to have an open world for
Is L.A Noire worth playing, ive been wanting to get thst game for years now but for some weird reason it was never less than 20$ and i got cyberpunk 2077 for 25$ when it was on sale(one of my fav games)
WOW! I was not expecting Driv3r, which I still pronounce Driv three are, to make this list. Driv3r was one of the games that I've been most excited to play before its release and it didn't disappoint. It wasn't buggy for me but this was 20 years ago and maybe I just forgot. Driver 2 is still one of the best games ever. The addition of actually being able to get out of the car is iconic.
Driver 2 was so good that, even though I only got to play it once as a rental, I never forgot about it and bought it as an adult. In fact I dont think I actually beat the tutorial to the first game until like... 2015ish 😅, that was notoriously hard
Driv3r was pretty fun at the time but I remember no matter what car you got the police in their rubbish cars were always faster, so you'd spend time finding some sick sports car just to be caught by someone's nan in a Nissan micro
driver 1 and 2 were the first game that knocked my socks off as a kid. the story of the game especially driver 2 are fenomenal. hell even 3 had a good story imo
Ghost Recon Wildlands and Breakpoint should also be considered. I had "fun" in the games when there was a story to follow but once u beat the game it's literally nothing to do but go around trying to be tactical and cool while clearing bases. It's weird how they make such huge beautiful open worlds but have nothing to add to them.
I really liked Wildlands. It reminded me of Far Cry but more tactical. I also liked the structure on how you began to demolish the cartel piece by piece. But I do agree that the world was kinda empty with lots of repetition. Also Nomad, the main character, was just bad. Absolutely zero personality and Nomad was basically just a puppet with a gun whose only job was to be the most generic special forces soldier ever. I consider Karen Bowman as the true protagonist in that game.
I enjoy playing Breakpoint with a friend, sometimes we would run around the entire night just taking out those bases that all look the same, but hell would I not play this game alone. It's incredible how HUGE it is and it looks so good but everything is THE SAME. They have like two types of base and copied them 500 times and the same goes for the NPCs. NPC dialogues outside of the story are outrageously dull, too. So dull we actually laugh about it every time. The story is pretty good though and being able to chose between vehicles allows you to traverse the world in a speed you enjoy. Imagine if there were interesting side quests, what a great game it would be.
Yes Mafia 3 wasn't the best open word but the story and the characters were awesome imo despite the issues with the game like the repetitive gameplay, bugs and the ownership bonuses not working for me as well. 👍🏻
I didn’t mind the busy work as it’s such a rich, immersive world and set in such an interesting, seldom explored era. Big fan of music from the 60s, so that was a bonus too.
I disagree with what you said on Mafia 3. Each activities you need to do to unlock more story missions are very fun and rewarding. They offer us a lot to do besides the main story and unlocks turfs, boss, and support. I'm not a big fan of linear design of old mafia games where you are forced to do missions after missions continuously and therefore lose interest on side content and exploration.
Yeah, but it is not a good thing when a game makes it so that you have to do side quests or activities before continuing with the main story. You have to understand that there are people who don't care about the side quests or activities and just play for the main story. Like my older brother, in his eyes when he has finished the main story of a game he has finished the game as a whole, yes he will still occasionally do side quests, that is not his main reason for playing. So when a game makes it so that you have to do side quests to unlock more of the story, it is not a very good thing.
@@moboladaleadeaina141 damn all of you need to go replay most of the games you played that you think is not repetitive. How is mafia 3 repetitive but 2 is not.
I really liked Mafia 3, despite all the side quests being way too similar, but that is a problem with a lot of open world games (Fallout 4 Radiant Quests, anyone?). Also liked the open worlds in Mafia 1 and 2, which despite not offering near as much stuff as 3 felt like an appropriate amount for the maps given. Also, I feel like LA NOIRE should definitely belong on this list. I forget if it was because someone in charge decided to add the open world at pretty much the last moment, but the map was just so darn empty. An old school LA open world should have been an awesome idea, but it was a major disappointment.
Mafia The Definitive Edition should also belong to the list as well. No currency system, no side quests, no random encounters, no car customization. It's linear game that does not warrant an open world
Mirror's Edge is one of my all time favs, but buddy it had more than 1 big problem. Chief amongst them the fact that it constantly slows you down to a (sometimes literal) crawl. Be it through tedious climbs or absolutely dire combat sections. You actually show one of the worst things about it, crawling into vents, on vents etc. Terrible. Honestly have more bad than good to say about it, but I do genuinely love that game. Catalyst only felt like a let down because the surprise of it being so much fun was gone, but the combat was much better imo, and I like just running around for no reason. Would have been fine as a totally linear experience
I didn't mind the vents because you had to parkour up to them, but I thought any section with guns in the original was easily the worst part of it. Like had they stuck to disarming and exclusively knocking out guards it would have been 10x better because the shooting was not good.
The game made perfect sense to be an open world imo. I don't know why people tend to dislike it so much compared to the original, it's basically the same thing but bigger and better. I'm still waiting for a third game with an even bigger world and more improvements on the parkour mechanics. Hot take but i believe the city of glass from this series is one of the most beautiful open world locations in any video game ever, it looks gorgeous and it's a blast to run around it.
@@Taijifufu Yeah I particularly hated a section with a sniper. It was easy to cheese it if you got your hands on one, but man, it was not fun And I get what you mean about the vents, I just found it annoying having to slow down so often, the controls could be a little clunky in those moments (on PS3 at least) and it was such a joy racing around on roof tops, launching over massive gaps and stuff. I just wanted to do more of that
@@mcgrindahfm1238 Yeeaah buddy. I put hundreds of hours into Dying Light, and then some when the following was released (how fun was the car thing? So good). Playing 2 at the moment, sadly don't have as much free time these days, but I love it. So easy to get distracted exploring and smashing rotten heads never gets dull.
Mafia 3 was a good game. The open world was a bit disappointing that was true. I remember everyone complaining about how repetitive it becomes but it didn't bother me as much though I still had fun even when it did.
On what you said about Mass Effect; 'RPG' and 'Open World' are not mutually exclusive, there is no line between them because they describe different aspects of what a (prospecting) player can expect. More often than not, the 2 tags actually go hand in hand 😁
Surprised to not see L.A. Noire in the list. It's an open world that is not used at all. You pretty much move around from one investigation to the next, which is a pity cause the city looks gorgeous, but there's not much to do around, other than police calls which are very repetitive. For what it is, it could have been linear and you wouldn't have noticed. To sum up: Great game, terrible use of open world mechanics.
I just wondered that in another comment myself. It is the first game that I think of when I consider a game that was undermined by the genre that it was shoehorned into.
I entered the video thinking about LA Noire, totally unnecessary to do a open world where just drive straight to the mission, but its a great game even with that
Agree with you about the open world in the sense that after the main game which is great the world instantly feels empty. But I’ve replayed it so many times because I love driving around 1930’s LA, listening to all the old music and adverts, seeing how people were back then. Gives me a strange sense of nostalgia for a time and place I didn’t exist in
Im a huge fan of the Dynasty Warriors series. Have 3-8 and would do everything that I could in those games (max lvl characters, get the ultimate weapon for each character, any dlc content, etc.). I lasted maybe 2-3 hrs in DW 9 making it only to the 2nd stage with Hulao Gate before I quit. The open world was a mess to me and zero direction. Combat felt very basic and easy.
Two things I totally hate about ME: Catalyst are that the open world is about a 1/3 of the full map (also, the initial area of the map where you start the game is no longer accessible unless you glitch out of it) and that it has a more futuristic tone, some structure designs make no sense at all and look weird.
Mirror's Edge Catalyst is a beautiful, calming, and zen-like experience I can't get from any other game. Its mesmerizing music and minimalistic but detailed open world achieve that
Its still my favorite game to play when I need to relax but the open world feels so empty since there aren't any npcs roaming the rooftops and you only get some npcs standing around that don't do much except some that have quests for you(mostly run to a location to drop something off) i think they shouldve made it so that you could see other runners roam the city doing parkour then the map wouldn't feel so lifeless. Atleast a realistic parkour game is in development right now hopefully its good
Mafia 3 was one of my favourite games from the last gen! The story line was great, the setting and map was amazing, voice acting was good, sound track was one of my favourite sound tracks ever! Cars had great driving phsyics. The DLC was enjoyable too! I get what people say about it getting repetitive but I can over see that as it does everything else so well imo!
The problem with Mafia 3, to me, was that you HAD to do the repetitive side-tasks to unlock more story. It was like the story was bait, dangled in front of me, to get me to do repetitive shit that has NOTHING to do with the story, just so the game feels longer. Every time I reached an interesting point in the story and was really interested to see what comes next - I had to spend another hour clearing warehouses and shit like that before I was rewarded with a few more bits of story. That shit is just unacceptable imo.
@@Hahaaomghedidit Lots of them. Mafia 1 and 2, for example. Sure, the mechanics are repetitive, but it doesn't feel that way because you keep advancing with the story on every mission, and you're eager to continue because you wanna know what happens next - even if you're just shooting rooms full of people while hiding behind waist-high cover on every mission. In Mafia 3, you do about 1 hour of open-world tasks that have 0 story and are all exactly the same - sometimes even in buildings that have the exact same layout - and then, after an hour of repetitive tasks, you get a story mission that's like 10 minutes long. Then it's back to the grind. It might be the worst possible open-world game design I've ever had the displeasure to experience.
I swear I'm the only person who loved the Prince of Persia reboot. It was just nice to climb around the gorgeous world listening to the Prince and Eleka talk with a surprising amount of charm and chemistry. Yeah, the game was piss easy and repetitive but I have so many fond memories of it
Not by any means, I can assure you. :) I honestly got way more than I expected out of the game despite the fact that it was so under-ambitious in its gameplay. I even logged just about every chat in that game and found some oddly obscure lines in it. The thing is, despite the game having some pretty easy faults to tally, so many of its worst critics seem to, instead, fundamentally misunderstand things about the game. I like Falcon's stuff, but I gotta say, the first thing he said was a very common sticking point for a lot of people, thinking that Prince of Persia was just about the time travel gimmick... which would make calling a game "The Sands of Time" extremely stupid. It'd be like making a game called "Mario & the Boots of Jumping" or "Monster Hunter: The Hunt of Monsters". XD It was regarded as a 'reboot to The Sands of Time' and not 'Another Prince of Persia saga/storyline' so much that people literally thought the Thief/Vagabond Prince WAS the Prince from Sands of Time and didn't get the whole 'donkey being named Farah' thing was, what most people know as: a joke. I guess it's not entirely surprising given the game was previously a relic and was brought back into the light BY Sands of Time, but I felt like around that time, the spread of info about games had a lot of growing left to do, so people's misconceptions ended up being the primary sources of information and to this day, I'm pretty sure there are still people who think Prince of Persia: Kindred Blades also existed (despite it being a non-playbale gameplay concept demo that eventually was changed, pretty drastically, into Two Thrones.)
speaking of open-world games, i honestly gotta say that one of the most well done is the free to play uncharted waters online from 2005, where you can live your sandbox sailor's dream by sailing around the world, pretty much literally where-ever you desire since the map is quite literally earth in the golden age of european exploration and is based on real events, like the highly lucrative spice and nanban trades between europe and asia (heck, you could even ignore every quest the game has to offer and decide your own adventure)
i also have to say that the distances involved with sailing are pretty decent, with 1 in-game day of sailing (which only starts ticking when at sea and stops when entering any landing point) correlation to 1 minute in real time
I actually really enjoyed Mafia 3, even the sometimes repetitive nature of some of the side missions. I think the game was unfairly compared to GTA far too often by industry commentators, and that's what tanked it. For me, the most irritating thing about it was the narrative cut-scenes. While extremely well animated and voice acted, some of them just dragged on for far too long. The setting, the era, the muscle cars and music were just awesome. I just hope a Mafia 4 comes out to continue the story, but set in the 1980's.
Fuck GTA.. compare it to mafia 2 and it sucks. I was/am a die hard mafia fan. All they had to do was update mafia 2 and start it off where they left off
It doesn’t matter what you compare it to I can compare it to the Scarface game, The Godfather games and even the other mafia games but it doesn’t surpass or is even as good as any of these games
The Prince of Persia game was the first of the series I played, so I had no attachment. One of my favourite experiences from my high school gaming days.
Mafia 3 had it's ups & downs story was good & you make a choice of how your character ended up at the end. The clearing out places could be repetitive but as a AC fan same could be said about those sometimes it's fun sometimes not . I remember hearing some guy talking to another guy about his wife wondering when he was going to come see their baby about a hundred times. I kind of liked Homefront how you could modify weapons to be a totally different kind . I stuck on a part had to be close to the end where you escort trucks with missle launchers on them and they go across a train track and there's cars already blown up in places and there was a truck & the damn trucks would run into the end of a blown up truck on the side & the escorted truck would not go around it would just keep backing up & go forward and hit it repeatedly. I turned my Xbox off & back on and even started over just for it to happen again. This was before I had internet so I don't know if it was ever patched but I bought the game for cheap but it was still kind of good reminded me of RedDawn it was helped written by a writer of RedDawn not sure if it was the old one newer one but it said that on back of the case even had Wolverines easter egg.
For me, all the Mafia games. The open world only serves to make you drive from mission to mission, with no incentive to explore. Should've been structured like Max Payne 3.
Mafia 1 remake blew me away honestly if they put that effort in mafia 3 they could've rivaled GTA atleast while not being a GTA clone like watch dogs and saints row
The most disappointing one for me is homefront revolution. The ability to upgrade and reassemble your weapon on the fly is amazing, and that's where the fun ends. The enemies have inconsistent difficulties and the lack of ability to tweak movement and fix sluggish controls, like you said, was a big miss. Button mapping and stick sensitivity option would revive that game and make it bigger than most games on this list IMO.
Agree whole heartedly. I remember when it was announced as a massive fan of the first homefronts hardcore gameplay I was like. What! That but open world? Sign me up!!! And seeing it had fun customisation. And looting. And outposts to capture It looked like everything I would have wanted from a home front open world. Even watched the I think it was rooster teeth gameplay. And it looked great. Bought it day one can’t remember what it was called but got the highest tier edition available. Which my mum who is amazing bought me and used our money for shopping. On it. And my god when I played it. I actually cried. I was heartbroken. Knowing my poor mum gave me her last pennies to get that game.
I really loved it but then I came to it after all the fixes, and there were tons. Might be worth trying again? It's also dirt cheap if anyone fancies trying it out.
Mafia 3 and Mirrors Edge are great games and great open worlds. Mirrors edge it made total sense to have a huge world to parkour around in. I remember just running around aimlessly trying to combo together moves
The only problem with Andromeda was it had mass effect in the title and the bad face models at release but it was a good game that alot of people didnt play because of reviews i was one of them but decided to play it about 2 months after it came out and i loved it
I literally played Mafia 3 for 4 years and I loved it. What was consider tedious wasn’t for me because I had fun luring guys around the swamp to be killed by a gator and the music is amazing. Definitely worth the play and to forget the tedious parts because you can find fun in them.
For real the 08 PoP game is so fun to play. Kinda wish I could play it again but haven't been able to since my ps3 bit the bucket a while back and I don't have a PC
I was actually surprised to see Prince of Persia 2008 on this list. I honestly wouldn't even call it "open world". The structure is more like Journey or maybe Shadow of the Colossus. I loved it. And who cares if it's a departure from the franchise? It's just a relaxing experience with a lot of breathing room to reflect on the environment and the story.
Hopefully mafia 4 will go back to 20s-30s Sicilian mafia with a dynamic open world. That franchise is so close to being perfect. They just need to work out the problems
Mafia 3 is one of my all time favourites. I've played it through twice.. and the DLC's. Repetitive works for me when the thing you are repeating is so darn fun.
Driv3r was one of my most favorite games. I absolutely loved the whacky physics and glitches. I've logged so many hours in the game just fooling around rather than playing the story. My favorite thing to do was going to Istanbul and blocking traffic at the draw bridge and catapulting dozens of cars. There was a glitch in Nice France at the airport where you can fall through the map and there was a platform at the bottom of the map. Once you drive off the edge of the platform your car gets launched hundreds of feet in the air. So many glitches made this game fun for me.
Glad I’m not the only one who just played with the physics. It was so unrealistic but still cool to look at. My favorite was going to the beach with the stairs and just ramping off them over and over to see how crazy I could flip my car.
It’s so funny because growing up I had driv3r instead of San Andreas and I couldn’t put into number how many hours we all put in that game, it’s genuinely my favorite game of all time
For me it honestly depends. If it’s done right, open world games are much more fun in my opinion. But many developers don’t do it right and it feels rushed and empty, which is pretty ironic.
I honestly feel like Mirror’s Edge catalyst’s open world could have been great if it allowed for more elevation than just the rooftops. I think it was a Whitelight video that talked about how there isn’t really a sense of height as you’re never on ground-level to appreciate how high it is. Alongside that, the open world itself doesn’t really feel open, due to the large gaps between areas, it really only feels like a bunch of linear hallways that connect instead of a true space to parkour. Tl;dr: Mirror’s edge catalyst’s open world should have been more open, and allowed ground floor exploration (like Dying Light 2)
Once in a while I run graphical modded Catalyst and run around. I loved the artstyle and the city itself, there are many good vistas and eye candy locations that you can just take a screenshot or simply immerse in, not to mention that minimalistic ambient music that plays around
I hadn't encountered any bugs (or memorable/annoying bugs) in Mirror's Edge: Catalyst. I greatly enjoyed that game. You can liken it to MGSV, which you mentioned was less like an open world games as it was very mission-based. ME: C is also technically mission-based in a similar manner. Most of the main missions are pretty linear. ME: C took the first game and expanded it into an explorable world in between those missions. I think it did a great job with that. I don't like that it wasn't released on Steam for years, though.
I'm really surprised Halo Infinite isn't on this list. Replacing the well-designed and distinctive individual levels of the classic Halo games with a dull open world was a bad idea.
Yup, just finished the campaign. What's the point of an open world if there is absolutely no change in the environments at all. No change of weather or terrain. Incredibly lazy. Tedious mission structure... press this switch OR go here, here and here and press switch then go here and press final switch. All the buildings are the usual simple geometric shapes that the first game had! There is absolutely no incentive to explore, you'll never find anything unique. When you complete a game and are relieved instead of wanting more then it's a poor game.
I actually really enjoyed mafia 3. I even 100% it (I do that with all the mafia games tho cus they’re fire). I think the game got so much hate cus it was a buggy broken mess when it released for a while. But when you actually commit to it, the story is fantastic and the characters are great. The extra side missions are fun if you do what I do and shotgun them into another dimension, but it got tedious pretty quick. I’d advise B lining the story. You’ll enjoy it
Really glad to see a lot of people disagreeing with the points made about various games in the video. Shows how much different games appeal differently to people. Mafia 3 was an absolute blast for me and the repetition didn’t even affect me since I was having too much fun shooting people in the face and taking them down brutally. The game was something else, man! The feel of it was unlike anything else and I think about it time and time again. :’)
I draw the line with Homefront The Revolution. I played it in Series X at 60fps and it was responsive and snappy, it was gorgeous (for its time and holds up) and it was fun guerrilla-tactic warfare. Great game.
Agree with this. I dismissed the bad reviews and gave in when it went on sale for $3. I had so much fun with this game, it felt like a Call of Duty campaign with fully modular guns and an actual choice in how to accomplish tasks.
For me, the Mafia worlds are so beautifully designed that I get a kick out of just exploring them. Mafia 3 also had that amazing soundtrack, further enhancing the feeling of driving a classic American muscle car. I did not really need a reason to just get lost in that world. Also, the definitive edition of Mafia 3 threw in a ton of stuff above and beyond what the base game had to offer. The Just Cause games have a similar impact on me for an entirely different set of reasons.
If you actually got all of the collectibles on Mafia 3 they intentionally show you how much work they put into the open the world. The map is beautiful. The missions just never take you there.
Mafia 3 was a great game - the hostile takeovers, music and story were great. Sure it got a little repetitive, but I think far too many people dismissed that game because the protagonist wasns't an Italian mafia boss. They nailed the spirit and setting of New Orelans too.
not at all. the level design was probably the most boring I have ever experienced. even the most formulaic games have some diversity and fun but Mafia.. holy shit was that game repetitive. I don't see how could anybody consider it a great game.
One of the best driving games of all time. Main story was brilliant. If they had done better side quests it would have been one of the greatest games ever. Still good though.more of an 8 out of 10 instead of the 10 it could of been for me.
@@andyknight4175 best driving game?! Not at all. What kind of games are you playing son? Definitely need to expand if you put mafia 3 in category with ANY of the “best” games
I actually really liked the Prince of Persia game. While I can understand the points you made. I did like this game being a bit different than the rest. Plus I loved the story. But I do understand why you would put this in this video. I can't wait for another Prince of Persia game if they will make another one.
I stopped playing mafia 3 a week after downloading it, it reminds me of assassins creed the one with Altair. Yes when I was young I liked doing dumb things to get to missions but now I just wanna play a game casually without doing everything just to progress through the story
Don't know about anybody else, but I really really enjoyed Homefront: The Revolution. So much so that I completed the game twice. The DLC wraps up the story beautifully. I really wish if they could make another Homefront game with obvious improvements and polish. Since I played on PC I didn't face much issues and the visuals were great.
You ain’t getting another Homefront, American. Eternal Glory to the Korean People and The DPRK. Reunification will happen once The US is defeated. ❤️ 🇰🇵 ❤️
@@xCobraCommanderx Lol! I am from India. I just enjoyed a fun game set in a Fictional timeline with a Fictional Story. It honestly doesn't matter which country it's set it. Just wanna get another Homefront game. Don't get butthurt dude, the game showed Korea so powerful and advanced they actually colonized America you should be glad, and why can't you just visualise it as being set in an alternate reality.
Mafia 3 wasnt messed up going open-world, it was actually its best feature that offered you loads of fun roaming around. Mafia 3 was messed up by boring design of repetitive stuff they made you do, in order to unlock Story missions, and also by the fact that Story strayed away from the previous two and Mafia core. Mafia 3 is a good game on its own, but worst in the series, honestly game would`ve had much better success if it had different name, it failed because it wasnt Mafia game per se.
@gioyu comi Open world doesn't matter in any open world game. Lets stop trying to make every game some linear thing with nothing to do other than the main mission because some people can't handle doing other shit.
Catalyst did what it needed to do for me. The soundtrack and aesthetic were spot on again. Only negative is the direction they decided to go with Faith and her character. I actually liked the world and how they linked the areas together. Wasn't bad. Driver 3 I have a soft spot for too. I played 1 and 2 growing up when they were new but still had a ton of fun in 3. Finding secret areas and Easter eggs was fun. It was so cool to walk around Tanner's house and get in his car. The damage physics were amazing too and the Tommy Vercetti 18 wheeler vigilante mode was scary as fuck. Even stumbling upon the Tommy's was nerve-wracking. I get both of these being in the list though.
most disappointing thing about catalyst was it's not a true open world because you can't walk in the streets of the city and explore like imagine being able to walk into a clothing shop and change Faith's outfit 😮
I miss the og Prince of Persia. Back then i used to wait for school to get over so I could come back home and sit on my computer and play warrior within ❤️
Couldn't disagree more with Prince of Persia 2008, it's one of my favorite games of all time. The traversal provides such a fantastic canvas for the dialogue with the princess. Combat was super stylish too.
@@joshuablocker4452 Exactly like the last guy said. It provides all the functionality of a dying screen but without loading and in a more stylish manner.
I really hope Koei-Tecmo learn from the dumpster fire of DW9 when it comes to DW10. They should also just include the Empires mode in the base games moving forward, that or at least bring DW8 Empires to an international release.
LA Noire. While it had one of the best stories I've ever experienced in a video game, the city area was pretty much wasted. It was huge and nothing was really going on in it, it was just an area pieces of which were used as crime scenes and places where suspects resided.
I was going to say that same exact thing, a game that would have been best served as linear story but rockstar had to make it open world because it’s what they do. It’s okay to do linear story and tell it well. But if it’s open world make sure that world has things to see and do.
Truly awesome video here guys, as always. Have always loved y'alls content and the Before You Buy is one of my favorites on here too!! Keep up the great work guys!!! Also I never even got into the Mass Effect or the Driver games but they both look like they were full of problems for sure.
1st two mass effects were good. 3rd was meh Andromeda was hot garbage and the first driver game was pretty great if you could get past the driving test in the beginning lol
In defence of Driver 3, a lot of its flaws come from Atari pushing the release date 6 months ahead of schedule in a desperate bid to sell units before San Andreas released. Parallel Lines gives a better idea of what 3 might’ve looked like if the devs were given the time they needed to polish the game, but that’s not to say it would’ve been perfect. It would have been more stable, at the very least.
It was a shame, because back then, Nice was a truly wonderful change of scene for the open world driving game. The typical European cars being different to the bigger American ones deserved a better final product than Atari allowed them.
I really enjoyed homefront revolution. The game had a very rough start but after it was patched it became a solid game. I don't think the open world really hindered the game. It was a huge improvement over the first game. It's just a shame the series was pretty dead by that point.
My issue with Mirror's Edge Catalyst was the story, not the open world. I didn't do any side content because I hate time trials and the missions are the most interesting things you can do but the plot itself is garbage IMO. The open world is a beauty to see and that's enough for me, it gave me this futuristic atmosphere.
I loved driver 3. Or DRIV3R however you spell it. I never did any missions because my brother told me not too, but the running around was always so fun to me. Especially in Miami, wandering around finding people at the pool . Lol
Yes! That's also my biggest complaint with most open world RPG games: _"Please take this common household item across the continent and protect it with your life to give it to some random person."_
ME Catalyst is amazing IMO. I have several dozen hours in it and still find new ways to get to places. It can be a super chill experience with just running around enjoying the parkour, or be intensely frustrating if you decide you wanna take on some of the deliveries> Really wish we'd get the continuation of teh first one's story though
Even after completing the game it's still fun to run around and enjoy the gorgeous views/architecture. The late game location with views to the river and purple lights and buildings filled with planta looks perfect. I hope they make a new Mirror's Edge.
I disagree with Mass Effect Andromeda. I think the open world aspect of exploring planets made sense with the story. You’re colonizing planets and creating outposts so having open world is necessary in order to actually feel immersed in exploration. I also disagree that most of them were “boring”. 1st planet you can go on a side quest to solve what’s causing tremors and then you end up fighting a giant metal worm that feels like a boss fight. That one outlaw/exile planet you go to is a whole story in of itself and is very unique if you pursue it past what the main story does with that planet. That one desert planet with the mutinied Krogan had a lot of interesting stuff to do as well. Also doing the remnant stuff in all of those planets(which were basically dungeons) made it feel a lot less empty. Idk it might just be me but for all the things Andromeda did wrong, having interesting stuff to do in those open world planets was not one of them
I don’t hate andromeda nearly as much as some but god so many of those side quests were tedious nonsense like ‘go to location A and press Y to scan, then location B and press Y to scan’ the developers really loved that Y button!
Really wanted to like it.. I wish it didn’t feel like going to a job. Not much of a story, mostly a big laundry list of things to do. After 12-ish hours i was like “welp, they’re not paying me so…”
@@TheMrCHELL ok that’s you opinion, and I respect that, but personally I and I bet pretty much everyone else disagrees how else would you explain every 10/10 the game was rated and you know the 70%+ (of people who have bought the game) of players who have beaten ‘margit the noob filter’
Did you play the original Prince of Persia? The one that was released in 1989? There was no time Power and traversal was super simple! When you say original prince of Persia games, I think you mean the first reboot
I remember the Open World bandwagon (GTA) that game studios hopped on for a while. I definitely felt like no one was agreeing with my complaints about them. Just like the battle royal(PUBG) or everything has to have an online mode(CODMW) or zombie crazes(CODWAW:Nazi Zombies.) It's probably why recently I've been more interested in playing linear single player or coop (preferably couch) as of lately. There's obviously a lot of nostalgia that plays a factor in me wanting to play like that way. Not to mention, I'm getting older and everyone has lives that get in the way between work, girlfriends/wives, kids ect. It's nice to be able to "hang out" online or if we're lucky actual time to couch coop to play through a game together.
I feel like gears of war 5 should be on this one. (I think it’s gears five I can’t remember, the most recent one) they tried this kinda odd idea of you going around on your wind sled finding stuff but at the same time it was kinda limited and Straightforward. So unsure if you could call it an open world but it felt like the devs were dipping their toes into the idea
Good point. The open world only ever really served to give you the choice of which 3 missions to do first each time. I did love the red sand mind you, very beautiful.
I would put "LA Noire" high on this list. The "open world" in that game is completely barren and devoid of any side activities. I love the game, but it's a narrative-focused linear game at its core. The director of LA Noire is also a huge scumbag. He forced his team to add the open world to the game even though the game didn't need to be one. Many Team Bondi employee worked countless hours for the open world for it to not matter at the end of the day.
Yeah but to it's credit the city itself is very beautiful to explore and just joyride around. First time I played the game I would just drive around and vibe to oldies music just thinking about life.
Mirror's Edge Catalyst isn't perfect but I think it's really underappreciated and the world is nice. Also citing bugs as a complaint against the open world is kinda ridiculous when it has nothing to do with the world design and there weren't really many bugs at launch at all. A better complaint against the open world would be the collectables or the lack of grappling hook points.
The only thing good about homefront revolution is that took place in Philadelphia. it was cool seeing my home city in a game especially seeing Center City at the end
The story and characters in Mafia 3 outshine the lackluster open world. If you go into the missions as setups to take down each chain in command its really cool. First mafia game to give you that true feeling of grass roots Mafia Boss.
I still think mafia 3 is underrated
mafia 3 missions were boring as hell im my own opinion
Imo the game was super average all the way around. The characters were pretty well done but the story is just a run of the mill revenge story, while the game has some bit of being a mafia boss it's really not much you just divvy out areas for rewards other then that very little decision making. I thought the DLCs were pretty fun but the main missions absolutely stink you do the same thing over and over.
Which sucks because mafia 2 had a great open world and interact-ability even though you didn’t get the best chance to explore it because of the story structure and no free roam mode like 1
Mafia 3 is a very very fun game.
Mafia 3’s issue wasn’t the open world, it was the insane repetition. The actual world was pretty interesting
Right blew my mind when I went into a bar and the barkeep said no colored folks aloud he was out in the bayou
The world was kinda dead though
@@Hecu there were npcs and some great designs everywhere the biggest problems was lack of veriety of missions
Take a look at EA's Earth and Beyond back in 2000, 80 bucks for game and 30 bucks a month to spend 5 hours at a space station to do a 5 minute task.
Agreed. I just commented I wish we got a modern version
The issue with that game was the repetitive missions not the open world
I just didn't feel a black man as Mafia.. It's like a hillbilly person as some Bloods gangster or something..
Thanks for mentioning GTA5. I was so disappointed after playing through the story that I went back to GTA SA to have more fun with the explored map and activities there than the current GTA version

@@SethiozProject Some games just get unnecessary hate, then people later find out that it's a hidden gem only after going back to it.

Talking about being biased, you can't say that after reading everything I wrote. It wasn't just a rant against Mafia 3 at all. I've explained how and why, argued about the pros and cons. So please explain?
@@12123188 the comment i was looking for
@Jams The Shapeshifter There's really good comparison videos between Mafia 1&2 and they actually show how much Mafia 3 is missing... it's not just opnion.
Right? It was two hour game, how much ya need to reboot lol
Then the DLCs were pretty good too in comparison and it was nice to get a VA for the player character in that too
I thought that game was horrible to play and the Story too. I loves the first homefront though
It was pretty bland, you’re right. Game needs a sequel really bad tho
L.A Noire didn't force you to navigate the open world though as there was an option to have your partner drive the car and skip straight to your destination. This meant it could be played in a more linear way than other open world games.
@@monstermash5969 yeah they KNEW the open world was pointless. The game in VR makes more sense since you can actually kinda view the city better... but its still an entirely pointless game to have an open world for
Was gonna say the same thing. LA Noire was open world for the sake of it
Is L.A Noire worth playing, ive been wanting to get thst game for years now but for some weird reason it was never less than 20$ and i got cyberpunk 2077 for 25$ when it was on sale(one of my fav games)
Prince of persia 2008 was literally therapy for me. It was just so relaxing and fun! It's basically a part of my childhood. I wish they do a sequel.
Prince of Persia 2008 is a masterpiece, would love nothing more than a current gen release. That soundtrack, ooooof!
Both those games better than Siege. Tom Clancy FTW
@@wzore6480 GTA is a perfect example maybe Red Dead too
I enjoy playing Breakpoint with a friend, sometimes we would run around the entire night just taking out those bases that all look the same, but hell would I not play this game alone.
There were actually tons of guerilla side missions and collectibles to get in wildslands after you complete the story.
Bro mafia 3 blows dick, every mission is the same, your fav game actually sux dick
I forget if it was because someone in charge decided to add the open world at pretty much the last moment, but the map was just
so
darn
empty.
An old school LA open world should have been an awesome idea, but it was a major disappointment.
La Noire was sooo good
Wish they made a new game with that system
Mafia The Definitive Edition should also belong to the list as well. No currency system, no side quests, no random encounters, no car customization. It's linear game that does not warrant an open world
Mafia 3 literally doesn't have "side quests" you should wait until you are 18 to post stupidity on the internet to try to seem relevant.
@@theroebuck123456789 It did. The devs were forced to cut a lot of content in mafia II. There was whole campaigns cut.
off topic but id love an la noire style game set in the supernatural universe where you play as a hunter picking up cases and investigating things
Have you played either of the Dying Lights? They’re parkour is soo good
The game made perfect sense to be an open world imo.
It was easy to cheese it if you got your hands on one, but man, it was not fun
And I get what you mean about the vents, I just found it annoying having to slow down so often, the controls could be a little clunky in those moments (on PS3 at least) and it was such a joy racing around on roof tops, launching over massive gaps and stuff.
More often than not, the 2 tags actually go hand in hand 😁
glad i wasnt the only one who thought this
Surprised to not see L.A.
Agreed, great game.
Wow I honestly forgot that that game was open world.....I thought it was just the investigations but I forgot you could drive around
Gives me a strange sense of nostalgia for a time and place I didn’t exist in
I loved all the mafia games. Mafia 3 was awesome. They only thing that was annoying was revisiting the same locations for missions.
Its mesmerizing music and minimalistic but detailed open world achieve that
I thought it was pretty cool love the cyberpunk style just wasn’t a fan of the story
Atleast a realistic parkour game is in development right now hopefully its good
the world is freaking gorgeous!
@@kalin9ne651 the story was mid but holy shit the cutscenes looked photorealistic and have some of the best facial animations I’ve seen yet
I also don't get why do many people had problems with. I love the game.
Specially the soundtrack
@@RuptimusPrime what shooter have you played that doesnt feel repetitive
Its one of my favourite games ever so you are not the only one
speaking of open-world games, i honestly gotta say that one of the most well done is the free to play uncharted waters online from 2005, where you can live your sandbox sailor's dream by sailing around the world, pretty much literally where-ever you desire since the map is quite literally earth in the golden age of european exploration and is based on real events, like the highly lucrative spice and nanban trades between europe and asia
(heck, you could even ignore every quest the game has to offer and decide your own adventure)
i also have to say that the distances involved with sailing are pretty decent, with 1 in-game day of sailing (which only starts ticking when at sea and stops when entering any landing point) correlation to 1 minute in real time
I actually really enjoyed Mafia 3, even the sometimes repetitive nature of some of the side missions.

Mafia 2 was pretty lively and interact able they just didn’t give you much to do activity wise or time to explore it properly because of the structure
Mafia 1 remake blew me away honestly if they put that effort in mafia 3 they could've rivaled GTA atleast while not being a GTA clone like watch dogs and saints row
I don’t know, I loved Mafia 2. Game had tons of details
mafia 2 was most certainly very good with basically about everything it had.
@@dr_logical_b3a5t63 I don't know, I've played a shit ton of both watch dogs and saints row and honestly they really don't feel like clones at all.
Homefront Revolution is one of the worst games I've ever played.
@El Cactuar You are an Ignoramus.
The Prince of Persia game wasn't terrible, until they made you pay extra for the ending.
PoP 2008 is such a cool game
For real the 08 PoP game is so fun to play. Kinda wish I could play it again but haven't been able to since my ps3 bit the bucket a while back and I don't have a PC
I was actually surprised to see Prince of Persia 2008 on this list. I honestly wouldn't even call it "open world". The structure is more like Journey or maybe Shadow of the Colossus. I loved it. And who cares if it's a departure from the franchise? It's just a relaxing experience with a lot of breathing room to reflect on the environment and the story.
@@darknesswave100 it used to be on ps now but I just looked it up and I think they took it off. Shame.
That's a huge problem because I loved that game and your comment right now is telling me I missed the ending because I don't do the whole dlc thing...
Id love to see a small open world that lets you enter every single building in the game
So you mean an open world that's like 2 streets big and suburban?
Yakuza is quite dense and packed with locations to explore with things to do if that kind of thing sounds appealing to you
Ghost of Tsushima has this with RDR2
Deus Ex HR and MD have a lot to see.
Assassin's Creed Unity and Red Dead Redemption 2 have this capability, right?
@@StuntzMcKenzy2D Dude that is exactly what I did when I played the game. I would use the beach ramps and try to flip back into the road / traffic.
same here man the game was great in my childhood it had a great story too👍
Personally I really enjoyed mafia 3, mirror's edge catalyst and homefront the revolution
It’s so funny because growing up I had driv3r instead of San Andreas and I couldn’t put into number how many hours we all put in that game, it’s genuinely my favorite game of all time
It's annoying how many games are open world nowadays. I miss the days when most games were linear and the few open world games around were superb
For me it honestly depends. If it’s done right, open world games are much more fun in my opinion. But many developers don’t do it right and it feels rushed and empty, which is pretty ironic.
@@MrMoose-mf1oy that's the thing, most open world games today are just copies from successful and actually well made games.

I would actually purchase a copy of it if it kept it's original mission structure.
Wtf are you talking about the open world is really fun and and adds to the halo formula.

@@MrWar2050 most drone comment I’ve seen in a while
Yup, just finished the campaign.
I enjoyed it as well
What do you mean a lot?
Only 16 people seem to support your opinion after a year. 😂
Mafia 3 was a cheap GTA wannabe.
I was excited about Driv3r simply because you could actually swim, and the car explosion physics were great
I draw the line with Homefront The Revolution. I played it in Series X at 60fps and it was responsive and snappy, it was gorgeous (for its time and holds up) and it was fun guerrilla-tactic warfare. Great game.
👍🏼
Very underrated game, I have played lots of Co-op
The Just Cause games have a similar impact on me for an entirely different set of reasons.
really liked homefront and mirrors edge 2, when you focus on the main quests these are great games
If you actually got all of the collectibles on Mafia 3 they intentionally show you how much work they put into the open the world. The map is beautiful. The missions just never take you there.
Well done. Tbh the blink skill in ME:A is still my fave skill on the ME world
Mafia 3 was a great game - the hostile takeovers, music and story were great.
I bought it solely because of the demo that was the first mission, was immediately let down after realizing the repeated content I couldn't skip
I'm with you it was really fun
I really enjoyed this game with the last update. Great game in My opinion
I throughly enjoyed both the homefront games
@@johnkiser1410 exactly 💯
@@dead_Penguin254 well yeah but it was faithful to the original in that regard
@@dave93x true but there were parts in the original where you were in the streets running then the sewers.
@@dead_Penguin254 if I remember correctly there's a mission in Catalyst where you are on the ground
I miss the og Prince of Persia. Back then i used to wait for school to get over so I could come back home and sit on my computer and play warrior within ❤️
I got all 3 for ps2 trilogy fair play warrior within is like on my favourites too
This made me feel old. To me the OG Prince of Persia was the '89 side scroller.
Couldn't disagree more with Prince of Persia 2008, it's one of my favorite games of all time. The traversal provides such a fantastic canvas for the dialogue with the princess. Combat was super stylish too.
He said something about u not being able to die. Is that true?
@@joshuablocker4452 ur not cuz the girls saves u but moves you to the latest safe place…so technically it has a checkpoint system just no dying screen
@@joshuablocker4452 Exactly like the last guy said. It provides all the functionality of a dying screen but without loading and in a more stylish manner.
I enjoyed the hell out of Mafia 3. Great game overall. You might be right about the rest of the games on the list. I never played them.
I actually really liked Mafia 3's open world -- esp after the patches. I legit think that game got way too much hate.
Mafia 3’s open world and “tedious” side missions were the best part you’re insane
The Fact that there is a FULL 3D Port of Driv3r for the Gameboy Advance is still one of the most impressive technical feats I've seen...
What for real? That's insane!
@@TheFos88 Yeah, look it up!
I watched one video that featured dynasty warriors 9, and was then suggested at least 4 more videos that featured that game all by this channel.
3rd was meh
Andromeda was hot garbage and the first driver game was pretty great if you could get past the driving test in the beginning lol
Driver 1 and 2 were awesome for the time (PS1).
Is there anyone who liked mafia 3. For me it was fun and liked it a lot and dlc's were pretty good. Story was interesting to follow also!
👍🏼
Ohh is there story?!
I liked it didn't love it missing the features that made the second one so sick
In defence of Driver 3, a lot of its flaws come from Atari pushing the release date 6 months ahead of schedule in a desperate bid to sell units before San Andreas released. Parallel Lines gives a better idea of what 3 might’ve looked like if the devs were given the time they needed to polish the game, but that’s not to say it would’ve been perfect. It would have been more stable, at the very least.
It was a shame, because back then, Nice was a truly wonderful change of scene for the open world driving game. The typical European cars being different to the bigger American ones deserved a better final product than Atari allowed them.
Driv3r was a better game than Driver PL. At least to me
I really enjoyed homefront revolution.
I loved the game, including the first one. But both had very meh stories.
I loved driver 3. Or DRIV3R however you spell it. I never did any missions because my brother told me not too, but the running around was always so fun to me. Especially in Miami, wandering around finding people at the pool . Lol
I loved it too, but I was young and bad at games back then. I would just steal cars and crash into things. Same thing with GTA Vice City.
@@ninjalemurdude facts, I could never get away from the police on this game. ESPECIALLY driving, I was better off on foot 😂😂😂
I think mafia 3 benefits from the open world. It was unfinished but the idea of managing your rackets. The dlcs helped too to keep it interesting
Yes! That's also my biggest complaint with most open world RPG games: _"Please take this common household item across the continent and protect it with your life to give it to some random person."_
ME Catalyst is amazing IMO. I have several dozen hours in it and still find new ways to get to places. It can be a super chill experience with just running around enjoying the parkour, or be intensely frustrating if you decide you wanna take on some of the deliveries>
Really wish we'd get the continuation of teh first one's story though
This whole list is largely whining about open world being open world.
Even after completing the game it's still fun to run around and enjoy the gorgeous views/architecture. The late game location with views to the river and purple lights and buildings filled with planta looks perfect. I hope they make a new Mirror's Edge.
I really enjoy this guys voice... The Falcon... I wouldn't finish my day without hearing his voice... Keep doin what you doin man. Good job
I did actually enjoy Mafia 3 : the setting, the music , character's clothing , it was all very suiting.
Idk it might just be me but for all the things Andromeda did wrong, having interesting stuff to do in those open world planets was not one of them
I enjoyed every part of it.
90% of those things were copy pasted fetch quests
I don’t hate andromeda nearly as much as some but god so many of those side quests were tedious nonsense like ‘go to location A and press Y to scan, then location B and press Y to scan’ the developers really loved that Y button!
Andromeda was trash. Stop boot licking EA.
Really wanted to like it.. I wish it didn’t feel like going to a job. Not much of a story, mostly a big laundry list of things to do. After 12-ish hours i was like “welp, they’re not paying me so…”
Since Mafia 3 is one of my favourite games, I have to disagree. The open world has such a great charme and style, the music and driving were great.
The driving? Maybe you should replay it. Driving in any Mafia game was not good.
I was really scared that Elden Ring might turn out the same but.......we all know how that went(THANK FRICKIN' GOODNESS)
Dat Game Sucks Donkey Ba;;s/
Yeah I was worried it would be too hard and boring open world, but I’m glad it wasn’t otherwise I would’ve wasted so much money
It's trash anyway.
Elden Ring GOTY
Did you play the original
Prince of Persia?
