    Very nice video of St Maarten, we were there a week ago on the Oceania Riviera and decided to walk into town which took about 20 minutes and it was not super hot yet. We have been to St Maarten before and had done a highlight excursion so we just wanted to explore on our own. The town does have a lot of casinos and restaurants and the beaches are very nice. We did the water taxi back to the port and since we were only one way, it was $10 for the two of, very reasonable. The main shopping is definitely all at the port area and also the best prices since they compete with one another. We did sit down at Sharkey's and I had a Caribe beer which was great after a few hours of walking around.

      That sounds like a lovely way to spend a day in St. Maarten. I’m definitely taking the water taxi or walking next time. As you said it depends on the heat. I’m envious of your cruising. We can’t wait to sail again in March. Thanks for watching and commenting. Happy travels 🦩

    The water taxi sounds like a great option to get downtown. Thanks for the insight on the shops at the port, I generally steer clear. As always useful insights,

    Great port tour. I like know what is there before I go. That water taxi sounds like a great deal. I’m definitely doing that.

    I went to St. Maarten years ago. It is so beautiful! I remember that long hike with no shade on the dock. Good tip to apply sunscreen before venturing out. -S

    I spent a week there once, so one day I rented a car and drove around by myself (female) , it was great to see the whole island. both French and Dutch sides. I felt very safe. It was very hot though.

    Thank you so much for this video. I will be going to St. Maarten again soon. From my past sailing I could not remember anything at the port, as I took a tour of the island and we headed to an all inclusive private beach. This time, I plan on the water taxi. Thanks for the tips at the port. The prices look incredible if you want a souvenir. Looking forward to finally getting back to cruising. Thanks again for the insight. Extremely helpful!!

    Hi there guys. Nice video however it sounds like you missed St Martin. First one small point, the island has had the two docks for many years. Long before 2017. That was the year hurricane Irma hit the island. I go to the island 3 or 4 times a year and have been for over 15 years. I’ve been to almost every island in the Caribbean and never on a cruise ship. Most of the cruise ports are pretty much the same however every island is different. If I had one suggestion it would be as soon as you get off the boat grab a local taxi driver and say show me your island. That will be the best tour and don’t worry, they will get you back to the ship on time. They do it for a living.

      Thank you I miss spoke it was in 2007 after Hurricane Luis. Great idea asking a taxi driver to show you around, it is nice cruising to the Caribbean you usually get a lot of time at port to explore. Where is your favourite place to visit in St. Maarten ?

      We liked it, I think the point for us is the port is pretty small, so make a plan to do something more, head into town on the water taxi, etc... The port is nice, but won't fill your time so we would suggest booking an excursion or heading into town via the water taxi on this port.
      Hope that helps Will, Happy Travels!

    Is there anywhere here or near here to rent jet skis?

    • @TravelingFlamingo
      @TravelingFlamingo  2 года назад +1

      There are definitely a few locations in Sint Maarten where you can book jet skis. Depending on your cruise line they may have a jet ski excursion but if not within about 15m of the port there are several locations that you can book to rent jet skis. Hope that helps Tay, Happy Travels 🦩

      @@timwilliams9163 so we didn’t end up renting a jet ski. We took the water taxi to the beach rented some chairs and just hung out there but there were some locals there that had jet skis you could rent. I think the price was like $50-75 or something like that. They had 2 or 3 jet skis. I never saw one break down and I never heard anyone complain about the service lol not sure of that helps

    Make a credit card size copy of your Passport. Never, ever walk around in a foreign country with your original Passport. If you loose your passport and or it gets stollen, you life will be miserable for a short period of time. Twenty nine countries so far and my copy has worked fine.

    • @TravelingFlamingo

      Thats a good tip for most people in North America or in the USA, however, and we had this in Europe (as Canadians and part of the commonwealth at that time), we needed complete and original version of our passports. I'm sure each country require visas for certain areas and we suggest checking what is needed at your port. Regardless we always store a full copy of our passports in 1password 1password.com which encrypts and secures any password or photo you upload (this isn't sponsored, we just use them)
