Kageyama is self-aware of that when you watched the match between Kitagawa and Hinata's middle school team. Like sure, it's normal that you'll be fed up with a teammate who acts like a dictator. But how about a bit of understanding? And you see how a bit of empathy impacted Kageyama and Karasuno. They tore every matches.

Yeah. According to flashbacks -- from Oikawa, no less -- he actually seemed like a sweet kid who really looked up to his upperclassmen, but Oikawa nearly backhanded him over a little advice! Then he suddenly lost his beloved grandfather -- the person who actually raised him and introduced him to volleyball -- and the rug was pulled out from under him. It's all but confirmed that his grandfather's death is what caused Kageyama to suddenly become so cynical and aggressive until Karasuno taught him to smile again.
One of the things I really appreciate in this series is how being "rivals" does not necessarily mean bad/negative, ie that you need strong rivals to advance & grow. If viewed that way, then rivals are kind of friends too. In the case of kenma, while he adores Shoyo, he wanted to crush him in court/cage him (see manga) during the nationals match. So i guess, the friends-rival relationship is not that simple...

Tendou loves Hinata's crazy monster energy and how weirdly dedicated he is. That's why he laughed when Hinata told him that he wasn't invited to the practice but still came.

no matter who you are, teammate or rival, no matter how irritating he is to play against or no matter how much they struggle to compete with him, in the end he motivates and inspires all opponents/teammates even though he never realizes it. hinata is someone very difficult to hate or dislike due to his genuine and sincere admiration for everyone he plays with and against, his open and straightforward joy, and his unrelenting motivation and drive that seeps into everyone around him from the court to the audience. hinata is someone people wish to be and hope to beat. he will never know it himself, and i doubt there will be anyone to admit it to him, but he’s honestly one of the most inspiring characters to me. ik hes the main character but besides that. its more than just the awesome plays he does with speed and height, but him as a person the small things he does, the way he thinks is so driven and i wish constantly that i could have that drive. i love him so much and im so happy i get to see him grow and honestly watching the other characters get inspired by him makes me feel so happy and excited. sorry for the rant! thank you for reading all the way through of my thorough admiration and love for hinata shoyou 🥺🍊❤️✨
Spoiler Hinata seriously gets OP af. After the spring tournament there is a time skip of 5 years. Hinata goes to Brazil for 2 years to play Beach Volleyball so he can grow stronger legs and improve his balance and essentially learning something new to feed his “hunger”. Furthermore, he learns how to jump serve, receive better than a Libero, set and master the Vertical jump which is faster and higher than during his high school days. He then sees Oikawa and plays a game of beach volleyball with Hinata, during their time together it is foreshadowed that Oikawa will join an Argentinian team because his idol played there. Moving on, after getting stronger like hella strong, he returns to join V-League where he plays for a japanese team named (MSBY Black Jackals) and vs against Kageyama’s professional team. This is where Hinata basically demonstrates his monster like skills to the whole Japanese professional scene declaring that he is a force to be reckoned with. This match will be the final arc of the anime.

I like how Hinata is really friendly and close with his rivals, yet his biggest rival is his closest friend Kageyama. Not to mention that, from their teams perspective, his other biggest rival is Tsukishima. Funny how Hinatas biggest rivals are his closest friends and teammates.
i really love hinata's overall personality. he's often intimidated by people around him, yet he was still able to face them head on and was actually very appreciative of the friendships he made. kenma considers him the "big boss" like he wants to conquer him, but they're still friends nonetheless. i want to have a friend like him, tbh. :((
