That last F-14 Tomcat fly by sneaking up from below the deck at just under Mach 1 and pulling into pure vertical was sheer, raw and brute POWER! You can feel the immense force and pace moving the air through the screen.
My favorite memory of the Tomcat is from when I was on The USS Constellation, her last deployment and VF-2 Bounty Hunters last deployment with the F-14. During the Tiger Cruise when they did the air show out at sea, the Tomcat made a super sonic pass about 100 off the port side if the ship and 60 feet over the water. Watching that beautiful beast of a fighter screaming through the air and seeing the shockwaves hitting the surface of the water as she screamed by will forever be ingrained into my memory! Nothing beats the Tomcat!!!
My understanding was that was Dale "Snort" Snodgrass R.I.P.!
When Cats ruled the skies! That last Tomcat pass is the kind of thing I'll always remember. Low, fast, mean, nasty, and poppin' flares! Super hot aircrew flying a super hot jet! Brings a tear of nostalgia to this old sailor's cheek. I loved it!!
Wow....that last F-14 Fly-By was awesome :) Just love it.
#getsome!
Many years ago i was at my grandmothers in Gloucester Va. Had 2 A-6 Intruders and 2 F-14s flow over at tree top level
Hornet does a nice pull and high alpha climb….
Tomcat rolls in and brings the heat like no one else could.
The Hornet looked cool enough, but that last Tomcat pass was pure performance.
In my opinion the F14 Tomcat is the best looking fighter jet we had in the fleet ...🇺🇲💪🇺🇲❤️🤍💙
Awesome to see all those Tomcats!
These videos of the big fighter are pure magic!
Wow…that low pass !!!
My all time favourite jet.
💪
Was super impressed with that Hornet high alpha move… until the Tomcat ripped by BELOW the fu**ing deck with a vapor cloud.
6:29 goodness gracious, *_Great Balls of Fire_*
Sh!t Hot!!! I love your old videos the Tomcat and legacy Hornet, keep em coming!
Love the Tomcat, such a presence!
One of a kind.
Thanks for sharing this Jello! I wonder if Ward Carroll was there during this. I know he said he was in the Diamondbacks at some point in the 90s and spent a deployment or two on the George Washington. Anyhow, cheers from Canada :)
He was the air wing operations officer during this cruise, flying with VF-102.
Awesome!@@FighterPilotPodcast
Always a treat looking at the Tomcat in flight. Thanks for uploading this Jell-O! Even though I’m Canadian, Fly Navy!
Hey, I'm an American Hornet guy so you can imagine the grief I get for posting these!
(you're welcome 🤩)
Haha! I can imagine. That low pass in the end makes it worth it though.
@ 2:20 That metal partition behind them is to deflect wind away from them as a carrier is heading into the wind.
The RAG VF-101 provided F-14’s for air shows. While I was assigned there in the IWT shop. I never missed them practice the demo. Was there 88-90. After one demo practice it was rumored that some large plate glass at the newly built Lynnhaven Mall may have been shattered 😊
Wow, how cool and fun. I can only imagine what that meant to the guys on deck.
6:27 LOL 🙂
Best part of the video!
Holy Schnykies that last past!!!!
Hey, thats my Dads name on the first Hornet you see... Cool. Thanks for sharing.
Bone was my XO and then CO in that squadron--please tell him hello from Jell-O.
@@FighterPilotPodcast Ya I showed him the video and of course he recognized your name. He says hello.
That last pass was amazing! Almost sounded like an actual sonic boom on the video, although I doubt it at that distance from the crew. Crowd line? What crowd line?
Crowd line is the edge of the ship!
That hornet pull was impressive but must have been something else to see that Tomcat pass! Thanks for sharing Jello, although one question - these air shows at sea, obviously very cool but in what circumstances do they usually happen? Is it an end of cruise event or mid cruise event to keep morale up etc?
Depends. Sometimes we do a rehearsal show before embarking "tigers" (friends and family) for the final days of deployment before returning, then they get to see the show.
DCS, the CatZ are ready ANYTIME BABY!
That below the deck pass WoW large ones.
Aside from the noise of a 1000 mosquitoes interrupting the sound of freedom; awesome video thank you for posting.
Yeah, sorry, cameraman forgot to wrap tinfoil around the camera to protect from the radar.
I don't know if video exist but I was a plane captain in VF-102 on the decom cruise aboard the America and on two occasions CAG was flying and went burner off the cats at night and on the 3rd attempt the engines flamed out and we all thought he was going in the drink but he recovered it and went straight vertical in full burner...i believe it was Snort but I could be wrong and this wasn't in a F-14a it was a F-14B and it was F'N awesome to see
I showed up in that air wing right after that deployment. Good times!
rip snort!
When they designed the F14 they did something completely right
Not a bad line on the jet
F18 ain’t bad either
Was this taken on the tiger cruise before America did the decom cruise in 95?
This was ‘97 in the Med.
