  • Watch exceptional French soprano Patricia Petibon sing "Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen" from Mozart's "Zauberflöte". The aria was recorded for her DG album "Amoureuses". Petibon has established herself as one of the most interesting and versatile sopranos of our day and has been widely acclaimed for her outstanding acting abilities that make her merge completely with whatever role she sings and represents on stage.
    With Amoureuses Petibon circles around the ever-important topic of love and desire -- in a series of character-portraits she explores how the very different female characters in the operas of Mozart, Haydn, and Gluck respond to the challenges of love.
    Ranging from the dramatic fury in Haydn's Odio, furor, dispetto and Mozart's Der Hölle Rache . . . to the sweetness in his Deh vieni, and from the desperate sadness of his L'ho perduta . . . me meschina! to the grandeur of Gluck's Ah! Si la liberté, the album is the perfect showcase for Petibon's exceptional skills of expression and characterization
    For Amoureuses Petibon teamed up with the acclaimed period-instrument band Concerto Köln and conductor Daniel Harding, a collaboration that guarantees an effervescent, entrancing approach to the music of the Viennese masters -- a captivating debut to watch for!

      Patrick I’ve had it w Diane Damrau, tho’ her Queen of the Night was definitive. PP does a good job, some of the high notes not really sounding human notwithstanding. This being a rehearsal gives her the leeway for all the, in fact unnecessary, movement.

    • @magicmulder
      @magicmulder 4 года назад +5

      mckavitt13 // I love the drama in her performance, second only to Damrau. I feel most who sing this flawlessly lack the emotion and just care about hitting the notes right.
      Highest note sounded a little harsh and with a notable „switch“ but I take this any time over some technically perfect but flat performance.

      She doesn't feel good in this one, she doesn't have enough support and she tries to overcompensate with her body and fake anger. This aria needs a monster voice. A voice that comes out hard without this much try. When you try this much, you are doing something wrong.

    • @IPOCRI
      @IPOCRI 3 года назад +1

      @@Daniela-pr7rz Well I dont know her at all besides this. Maybe she is not so used to his piece yet so she it's not so "natural" yet. Also after this when she hit's the super high notes it seems she relies on the practiced technique like the way she stands and holds her arms infront of her. Yea it's the support is missing but still to me it feels not as if she is using a lot of effort but rather the routine is missing.

    simply unique! one of the few (also german) singers who sing this piece so clearly and distinctly. with many of them you have to know the lyrics in order to understand what the respective lady is singing. here you understand every word, every syllable. take a close look: she reflects on her singing while she sings and communicates briefly with the conductor via her facial expressions without even the slightest rupture. i call that art and perfection. i would love to hear the whole magic flute with her as the queen of the night.

    To some commentors:
    She is not forcing the song.
    It is not about she looks in the hard times, or as others commented the german emphasis about this.
    This is about death and despair.
    And i can feel it here, like in no other version. Maybe overwelming is the better word.
    This Woman gives me chills.
    Compared to other female singers in the charts, she is about 5000% above for me.
    And yes, her face is interesting sometimes... i love it .
    It is just her amazing singing technuiqe. Do it better if you can. (100db, crystal clear, nailed on point)
    If you can, listen it loud and with a subwoofer.
    There is al lot from the Orchestra you cannot hear without Bass.
    For me this one of my top 5 classic recordings i have ever heard.

      Martin Marius Maurich Cause this is no opera. It's a Singspiel ;)Btw! Nice variation of "Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen".

      +Martin Marius Maurich Because they didn't have RUclips and you couldn't just listen to the arias. You had to sit through the opera which even for Mozart is not easy.

    Do the people complaining about her "weird" expressions not understand what's supposed to be going on in this scene? I could be way off but I think she's making some pretty deliberate choices in how she's acting it out, either way she sells it really well imo

      More than that. She is a mother who has lost her child. She has been thrown over as evil by a boring wise man. Ugh. Mozart's music says much more than the text.

    Ja diese recht anspruchsvolle "Rachearie" der Königin der Nacht aus Mozarts Zauberflöte so gut zu singen ist eine Glanzleistung. :-) Der dramatische Koloratursopran sitzt bei ihr und ist glaubwürdig.

    Fabulosa interpretacion. Varios motivos: Muy buena dicción en alemán. En la coloratura, los trinos y los agudos estupenda. Y sobre todo la furia dramática con la que hay que interpretar esta dificl pieza. Bravo.

    I like to listen side by side Petibon, a French soprano, and Diana Damrau, a German soprano, to be able to compare and contrast how they sing this aria. One big thing I notice is how they both phrase differently in this piece. Both are wonderful.
