Yep. Whenever I think of Batman, Conroy's portrayal is always the one that comes to mind. There have been other good Batman performances, but for me at least, no one has ever come close to topping Conroy. Same with Mark Hamill and the Joker honestly.

In the 1970s Batman became darker again in the comics but remained more family friendly in other media such as the new adventures of Batman cartoon and the various Super Friends cartoons, while being dark in the comics, the first appearance of a dark Batman outside of the comics was in Batman 89, which contained in its sequel Batman Returns, as well as the DCAU, Dark Knight trilogy, DCEU, DCAMU, and various other video games, cartoons, and movies. Rino Romano (The Batman, 2004) has to be one of my top 3 Batmen. He plays Bruce Wayne beautifully and he has a good Batman voice that changes as he matures throughout it's 5 season run.
Overall Michael Keaton was my favourite. He wasn't the best Bruce Wayne or the best Batman, but he was the best at the Batman conflict - sometimes he would "accidentally" be Bruce while Batman, and be Batman while dressed as Bruce. He was merely ok at the two roles, but was my favourite for portraying the inner conflict between the two and the identity confusion he's famous for (and showed it as "unstable" and not "crazy").
Kevin Conroy is the definitive Batman. Just because he's a voice actor doesn't mean he's not an actor. In fact, you can't be an good voice actor without being a good actor otherwise. He's always played him deeper than anyone else has ever managed. So much nuance to the way he's portrayed the character.
I'd argue the opposite, you can't be a good actor without being a good voice actor. As a voice actor you don't have the physical aspects, but as an actor you definitely have the vocal aspects.
Lol unpopular opinion but I would switch Kevin Conroy and Rino Romano spots, Kevin is alright but it makes me think batman was a smoker for a few years that and I think he's a bit overrated, kind of the same way that Spider-Man Fanboys over rate Tobey Maguire

@@randomnerd3402 same here, I remember when it was first announced, people hated the concept because they dredded the return of anything close to the Silver Age era of the character and yet as soon as it aired, most people fell in love with the show and it kind of played a role in a recent reappraisal of the less dark version of the character.
Kevin Conroy did something very incredible. He was able to not only make a beloved character that much more beloved but also became an icon with just his voice. Even if he doesn’t “look the part”, his voice IS BATMAN.
One thing I loved about Kevin's voice acting was he had two different voices for Bruce Wayne and Batman As Bruce he had a softer and calmer voice As Batman he went deeper and more aggressive And it fits perfectly

I've got one Batman voice people rarely mention... Richard Rohan, from GraphicAudio.net Unfortunately, they lost the license to sell their DC productions, but what they used to have up was top notch. Richard's Batman was very good, as was his Joker. He did both voices AND narration for Batman: Dead White, Batman: Inferno, and I think Batman: No Man's Land as well. He also played Batman in some Justice League stuff they did. Normally this is where I'd link to their site and encourage everyone to go listen to free samples, but it's not up anymore, so I have to begrudgingly say "Try sailing the high seas". It's out there and you'll find it. Check out their DC stuff and if you like it, please consider stopping by their website and actually paying for something else. I've been a fan of their stuff for years. I know I sound like a goddamn shill, but I honestly love their shit.
Bruce Greenwood would have to be on the list for me. One could argue that he simply mimicked the Kevin Conroy aesthetic but he offered a different one in my opinion to the point where I can make a distinction between the two. For those who don't know, he played Batman in Under the Red Hood and Young Justice. My preference for his voice is like how you described Roger Craig Smith only I prefer Bruce Greenwood. I think many of my choices would be derivations of Kevin Conroy because he is the gold standard of a Batman performance, so voices like Rino Romano who played in 2004s The Batman, or Anthony Ruivivar who played in Beware the Batman. Voices that are similar and have influenced so they are enjoyable to me, but are different enough to where I would not call them copies. I was considering maybe Jason O'Mara who played in the DCAU in the past few years but I think his voice is kind of goofy sometimes. This is the internet so I have the freedom to voice my opinions to anyone who asks "who asked" or similar. I don't care for the similarity of voices because the question is the "best" batman interpretations so if they copy the best, they naturally will be good. So I would say maybe... 1. Kevin Conroy 2. Bruce Greenwood 3. Rino Romano 4. Anthony Ruivivar 5. Ben Affleck for his physical presence and interpretation

As much as I love Ben Affleck as Batman, and yes he's probably my favorite, There is no shot in hell that he's one of the best detective Batmans on screen. The only "detective" work he did was finding and decoding Lex Luthor's hard drive, and even then he just let his computer do most of that. That version of Batman is more of a tank and a fighter rather than a detective. That's what I loved about him
I think that's because the movie specifically focused on his paranoid and brutal side over others. But I've heard rumours that the cancelled Batman movie would've focused more on his detective side as that was to be inspired by the Arkham games.

Also for your Reyes Info, Keatons Bruce is nearly a perfect adaptation of the 1939 out of place Bruce Wayne.

Totally agree ab Kevin Conroy. Hamill and Conroy are not the characters they are simply the voices. Maybe the best voices, but it's Pattinson and Ledger for me
Affleck #1 for me. He nailed both Bruce as the public exec/playboy and the intimidating Batman characteristics. I loved that he was also in his prime and was basically “broken” by years of crap thrown at him. He was kidding around anymore and criminals feared him.
The difference between a voice and an actual act is very miniscule, if not even noticable. But both seek to accomplish the very same thing. That is the portrayal of the character.
Val Kilmer did an alright job in the role and the movie had an alright story (better story than Batman Returns) However Kilmer was in between Keaton and Clooney which means he’s often forgotten And reflecting on the casting Clooney felt like a natural replacement for Michael Keaton but due to the script and direction made his performance terrible So I think in replacing Keaton I think Clooney was a good choice
I know he's a parody but I thought Will Arnett as Lego Batman was just great lol, I love how he & the film itself took a generally dark, brooding character and satirized it. Kilmer is also a very underrated Bruce/Batman, but my favorite is Michael Keaton and Kevin Conroy, they're 1A & 1B.
I agree with Reyes. Of course Conroy is *THEE* voice for Batman, but at the end of the day that’s all he is, the *voice* of Batman. He’s not getting into shape, building muscles, take fight choreography lessons, putting on the suit, (which is a pain in the a55 apparently) get in front of the camera and acting the part. No anywhere near as the other actors anyway. So I hold actors like Ben Affleck, Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer in higher regards as the character

I like Conroy, he’s played Batman best in all venues! I however grew up with Keaton as the first shown Dark Knight, even if it was not truly dark, he was the first one that played him dark! I also liked Bale, but I think I enjoyed his version for the villains in it, in my opinion.

If we're including voice actors in this, then my favorite Spider-Man would either be Josh Keaton, or Yuri Lowenthal. As for Batman, I don't find Conroy overrated in the slightest. He nailed both the Bruce Wayne and Batman performance.

Yeah. For those films, Bruce Wayne was definitely more important than Batman. The trilogy was less about the hero and more about the man behind the mask. It was definitely a different take on the character, since most Batman incarnations have Bruce Wayne as the mask with Batman being his true self. In Nolan's Batman it's the exact opposite. Bruce becomes Batman out of a sense of duty to Gotham, but he still hopes to eventually live out his life as Bruce Wayne. He hasn't given up hope of one day living a normal life. So it was more important that Nolan find a great Bruce Wayne, rather than a great Batman. That's what he needed for the story he wanted to tell and he found the perfect Bruce Wayne in Bale. Personally I don't even think Bale's Batman was bad once you got over the voice, but whatever problems he may have had as Batman, he made up for them ten times over with how well he nailed the character of Bruce Wayne. He's my favorite live action Batman almost entirely because of his Bruce Wayne performance.

For live action films I would definitely say Nolan's films are the best we've gotten, but I'm not sure I'd say they were the absolute best that the character had to offer in any medium. BTAS, the larger DC Animated Universe and several of the Batman animated films gave us some real quality content for the character. Mask of the Phantasm, Return of the Joker and Under the Red Hood were all gold as far as Batman content goes.
Nolan's Batman is highly overrated to me! Batman Begins is great, The Dark Knight is good and TDKR is pretty bad to me! Christian Bale's bat voice was so silly, i couldn't take him seriously, whatsoever! He was a great Bruce Wayne, but not a good Batman! Kevin Conroy is the best Batman and Keaton to me is the best life action one! Also, I like Burton's Batman films a lot more then Nolan's ones!

If we are talking about BATMAN, and not Bruce Wayne, how can you say anybody else but Keaton? He literally looked like he was enjoying himself when he was Batman. You really believed he would do it because it looked like he loved it. It didn’t feel like an act. Keaton and Conroy share the throne as far as the Batman character goes.
Reyes is kind of disrespecting the work it take be a voice actor based on his reasoning. I mean you have to convey so much without being able to physically act out the part to help carry the weight of the performance. Its like telling a story over the phone, you know that story would come out 100% better if you could be in front of the person you're talking to because they can see your facial expressions, hand jesters, body language etc. All of which helps paint a far more vivid picture for your audience. Voice acting requires you to paint that same vivid picture without your own body. If you don't think that gives a voice actor like Kevin Conroy the right to stand above a live action Batman than I've lost some respect for you. I know its an opinions and opinions can't be wrong but I think this one is wrong. 🤷🏾♀️
Saying its more difficult is unfair to the voice acting craft. I also said "kind of" I clearly recognize that he isn't intentionally trying to disrespect voice acting but the comments he makes comparing voice acting and live acting do kind of slap the hard work it takes to be a good voice actor right in the mouth.
I have a bias to Christian bale I grew up on them I love his Bruce Wayne and I love his Batman no matter how dumb some people think his Batman voice is I like it

Voice acting can be just as hard as acting in front of the camera.

To express yourself without any facial expressions/body language is extremely difficult. I'd say voice acting is as difficult as normal acting.

Rino Romano (The Batman, 2004) has to be one of my top 3 Batmen.
He plays Bruce Wayne beautifully and he has a good Batman voice that changes as he matures throughout it's 5 season run.

Overall Michael Keaton was my favourite. He wasn't the best Bruce Wayne or the best Batman, but he was the best at the Batman conflict - sometimes he would "accidentally" be Bruce while Batman, and be Batman while dressed as Bruce. He was merely ok at the two roles, but was my favourite for portraying the inner conflict between the two and the identity confusion he's famous for (and showed it as "unstable" and not "crazy").
Kevin Conroy is the definitive Batman. Just because he's a voice actor doesn't mean he's not an actor. In fact, you can't be an good voice actor without being a good actor otherwise. He's always played him deeper than anyone else has ever managed. So much nuance to the way he's portrayed the character.
I'd argue the opposite, you can't be a good actor without being a good voice actor. As a voice actor you don't have the physical aspects, but as an actor you definitely have the vocal aspects.

He did both voices AND narration for Batman: Dead White, Batman: Inferno, and I think Batman: No Man's Land as well. He also played Batman in some Justice League stuff they did.

Bruce Greenwood would have to be on the list for me. One could argue that he simply mimicked the Kevin Conroy aesthetic but he offered a different one in my opinion to the point where I can make a distinction between the two. For those who don't know, he played Batman in Under the Red Hood and Young Justice. My preference for his voice is like how you described Roger Craig Smith only I prefer Bruce Greenwood. I think many of my choices would be derivations of Kevin Conroy because he is the gold standard of a Batman performance, so voices like Rino Romano who played in 2004s The Batman, or Anthony Ruivivar who played in Beware the Batman. Voices that are similar and have influenced so they are enjoyable to me, but are different enough to where I would not call them copies. I was considering maybe Jason O'Mara who played in the DCAU in the past few years but I think his voice is kind of goofy sometimes. This is the internet so I have the freedom to voice my opinions to anyone who asks "who asked" or similar. I don't care for the similarity of voices because the question is the "best" batman interpretations so if they copy the best, they naturally will be good. So I would say maybe...

As much as I love Ben Affleck as Batman, and yes he's probably my favorite, There is no shot in hell that he's one of the best detective Batmans on screen. The only "detective" work he did was finding and decoding Lex Luthor's hard drive, and even then he just let his computer do most of that. That version of Batman is more of a tank and a fighter rather than a detective. That's what I loved about him
I think that's because the movie specifically focused on his paranoid and brutal side over others. But I've heard rumours that the cancelled Batman movie would've focused more on his detective side as that was to be inspired by the Arkham games.

Affleck #1 for me. He nailed both Bruce as the public exec/playboy and the intimidating Batman characteristics. I loved that he was also in his prime and was basically “broken” by years of crap thrown at him. He was kidding around anymore and criminals feared him.

The difference between a voice and an actual act is very miniscule, if not even noticable. But both seek to accomplish the very same thing. That is the portrayal of the character.

Val Kilmer did an alright job in the role and the movie had an alright story (better story than Batman Returns)
However Kilmer was in between Keaton and Clooney which means he’s often forgotten
And reflecting on the casting Clooney felt like a natural replacement for Michael Keaton but due to the script and direction made his performance terrible
So I think in replacing Keaton I think Clooney was a good choice
I feel what really makes Kilmer great is because he’s the last person would think to be Batman which is a great disguise
I know he's a parody but I thought Will Arnett as Lego Batman was just great lol, I love how he & the film itself took a generally dark, brooding character and satirized it. Kilmer is also a very underrated Bruce/Batman, but my favorite is Michael Keaton and Kevin Conroy, they're 1A & 1B.

I agree with Reyes. Of course Conroy is *THEE* voice for Batman, but at the end of the day that’s all he is, the *voice* of Batman. He’s not getting into shape, building muscles, take fight choreography lessons, putting on the suit, (which is a pain in the a55 apparently) get in front of the camera and acting the part. No anywhere near as the other actors anyway.

I like Conroy, he’s played Batman best in all venues! I however grew up with Keaton as the first shown Dark Knight, even if it was not truly dark, he was the first one that played him dark! I also liked Bale, but I think I enjoyed his version for the villains in it, in my opinion.

He nailed both the Bruce Wayne and Batman performance.

Yeah. For those films, Bruce Wayne was definitely more important than Batman. The trilogy was less about the hero and more about the man behind the mask. It was definitely a different take on the character, since most Batman incarnations have Bruce Wayne as the mask with Batman being his true self. In Nolan's Batman it's the exact opposite. Bruce becomes Batman out of a sense of duty to Gotham, but he still hopes to eventually live out his life as Bruce Wayne. He hasn't given up hope of one day living a normal life. So it was more important that Nolan find a great Bruce Wayne, rather than a great Batman. That's what he needed for the story he wanted to tell and he found the perfect Bruce Wayne in Bale. Personally I don't even think Bale's Batman was bad once you got over the voice, but whatever problems he may have had as Batman, he made up for them ten times over with how well he nailed the character of Bruce Wayne. He's my favorite live action Batman almost entirely because of his Bruce Wayne performance.

The Dark Knight trilogy is Batman's peak. The best acting, the best stories, one of the best looks, Christian Bale is number 1.
For live action films I would definitely say Nolan's films are the best we've gotten, but I'm not sure I'd say they were the absolute best that the character had to offer in any medium. BTAS, the larger DC Animated Universe and several of the Batman animated films gave us some real quality content for the character. Mask of the Phantasm, Return of the Joker and Under the Red Hood were all gold as far as Batman content goes.
Nolan's Batman is highly overrated to me! Batman Begins is great, The Dark Knight is good and TDKR is pretty bad to me! Christian Bale's bat voice was so silly, i couldn't take him seriously, whatsoever! He was a great Bruce Wayne, but not a good Batman! Kevin Conroy is the best Batman and Keaton to me is the best life action one! Also, I like Burton's Batman films a lot more then Nolan's ones!

Reyes is kind of disrespecting the work it take be a voice actor based on his reasoning. I mean you have to convey so much without being able to physically act out the part to help carry the weight of the performance. Its like telling a story over the phone, you know that story would come out 100% better if you could be in front of the person you're talking to because they can see your facial expressions, hand jesters, body language etc. All of which helps paint a far more vivid picture for your audience. Voice acting requires you to paint that same vivid picture without your own body. If you don't think that gives a voice actor like Kevin Conroy the right to stand above a live action Batman than I've lost some respect for you. I know its an opinions and opinions can't be wrong but I think this one is wrong. 🤷🏾♀️
