@@milebackwards the epic dungeon theme is meant to lure sprouts into the siren’s lair, hence why it is so vocal heavy, unlike The Wanderer’s Palace, or Brayflox’s Longstop
When I first entered potd and I heard this music, I instantly fell in love with it. Really made my first time in potd feel like an epic journey into the unknown. I got goosebumps.
That's how I heard this song, I'm relatively new to FFXIV. I heard this song then scoured the internet till I found it, since I haven't reached this dungeon yet.
You should have fought against the last boss in Haukke Mannor. You do everything correctly, and - for some reason - you wipe. Why? Too much damage on the boss...
I love how tragic the song is. Its melody is haunting and beautiful, yet incredibly full of sorrow, symbolic of the both the people that lost their lives when the lighthouse was destroyed by the crystals, as well as those lured there by the Siren's song. Easily my favourite song of ARR.
Right!? I'm so glad you get it! Before I knew the name of the song I could hear the theme of struggle, a light in the dark. The hopelessness, when everything looks bleak as you traverse the lighthouse. The limits you're pushed to trying to reach the top against the wrestless souls that live here. The hope that keeps you going while fear fastens around your heart. The fear that you may fail your endeavor like those before you, that you may fall prey as the beautiful, dark melody grows louder with each step forward. You are the hope, the hope of those that came before you, the lost souls. The hope that you would succeed in silencing the siren forevermore. Upon reaching the top, you muster all your will-power and fight to your last breath, the last bit of hope you have to live. Finally, you and your companions are victorious, turning the siren's decievingly beautiful hymn into an honest melody of strife and victory with untold challenges that make you question your resolve and test your courage. You take a deep breath, finally realizing you can breathe again. The worst may not be over yet, but now you know that against all odds, you have the will to survive.
This is one of the most epic and beautiful pieces of music I've heard in a videogame. It gave me goosebumps and made me stand around awestruck like an idiot.
Karshe Oberon agreed. The mix of zombies and siren singing makes it all feel dire and mystical. One of my favorites. Love getting this dungeon in roulettes.
I ran this dungeon 3 Times last night getting all the blue mage spells for this dungeon and not once did I get annoyed or bored. This music+ blue mage made it a blast
sneaky plot from the developers IMHO. as sirens are known to be badass singers the music somewhat composed itself once you decided upon the main villains.
You know, if you think about it, the fact this music stops when you reach the Siren could be interpreted as her constantly singing and it's reverberating from the top all the way to the entrance of the dungeon.
I like to think the female vocals are Siren at the top of the tower singing. This just sounds like a song worthy of being tied to a mast to listen to as your ship sails by, though I could see those not strong of will dying after for pining after that taste of heaven. I'm not sure if that's what they were going with or not, but I love this theme. It's operatic, has a wonderful orchestral feel, and speaks of mystery, danger, and wonder. Game or no, FFXIV has some of the most fantastic music. And I say this as a huge fan of ShB music knocking it out of the park, but this track is still one of my favorite pieces in the entire game.
I play quite a good healer. Times like that sometimes I want to choke the tank lol. Even then if healer can't heal them from big pull. Tank always go off on healer.
One time I ran this we got a newbie tank that kept running around. This wouldnt be a problem if the dps were casters but they weren't. We were melee dps and it pissed not only the healer off bit the dps too
My first run through this dungeon as a WHM I had a tank who kept pulling -the entire dungeon- and sprinting away out of healing range. Dude, please, stay put so I can heal you, my swiftcast has a cooldown and isn't meant for trash pulls ; .;
first time I heard this theme in the palace of the dead I was hipnotized, definitively one of the best themes in the game!! so immersive and beautiful!!!
Everytime I run this dungeon, I find myself stopping on the staircase (I think the one just at the end of this vid though not shown) and looking out the window at the view of the sea...just for a moment....as the sheer grand somberness of this music overwhelms my lowly soul.
The song is so amazing, i kinda feel it's sort of a waste to use it on a simple dungeon. But non the less, this is the best dungeon music i have heared in all my 10+ years playing MMOs
The song is great, love it, but there's other songs in the game I like just a bit more, however generally speaking the music in this game is far better then any other game! First time I played this game and heard the music, it was unreal! I did'nt even know MMO's could have such great music, the sensation was what it must have been seeing colour TV for the first time!
This dungeon was by far the hardest one in the game when it was released. It's been nerfed a ton, and content updates overgear the players for older content
+Krisos Best DG song in the whole game? Agreed thousands of times. But i personally liked Glastheim themes (Ragnarok I). The whole of Glastheim was an three floor- dung in an haunted city. It was dark, it was eerie, it putted you on edge. If ya not heard, highly recomend it.
I just heard this from Palace of the dead floors 1-10 for the first time today. I thought it was a RUclips video accidentally going off, since I don't normally hear this in there. Thank you for this.
When I went for the last 10 floors in solo POTD, this was the first song to play. This was always an omen. Needless to say that it was indeed a clear, my first one ever. This song will forever be linked with me becoming a Necromancer for the first time.
KazarothGaming Not quite. There's two versions of the same song. The one in Hard Mode being the better version as it's less repetitive and you're able to hear the entire thing.
I just got this in lvl50 roulette! I have hundreds of hours in the game and it's my first time! instantly fell love with the aesthetic, easily best dungeon in arr
Normally, I have the game music set to low. However, I happened to have my music setting higher than normal when I ran this dungeon solo on my blue mage. I was able to obtain the "aetherial mimicry" spell after the first run, but I loved the music to this dungeon so much that I actually ran the dungeon a second time to just hear it again. Ridiculous I know, but it is that good.

Still one of the best dungeon theme's in the game to this day
The epicness in this theme is unrivaled still. It's quite sad that Siren doesn't play a big role in the plot, which make this theme a bit of waste.
