Saw a scenario similar to this off the Maine coast back in the late 1960’s. A guy tried to show his buddy how a Land Rover could swim out to an island at low tide. He drove across the beach, thru a tide water river onto a rock causeway. He made it to the island and turned around successfully. His return trip apparently wasn’t at the same spot where he had crossed. Or, he fiddled around on the island too long and the tide started coming back in. Driving back he buried the right front wheel in the quicksand at the bottom the river and went no further. They abandoned the vehicle for the night. The tide went completely over the Land Rover, so much so that my dad sailed his sailboat which had a 36” pivot board right over it without touching the roof. Low tide came around and a tow truck couldn’t budge it, although tow trucks weren’t nearly as sophisticated back then or one wasn’t available. It required a bulldozer to yank it free. BTW, good video. 👍
Good Job George !! A lot of towers would have tried a straight pull and given up. Suction had it's grip on the Ranger. George and Dead-pull got the job done !!!
Many years ago I took a minivan onto the beach at Long Beach. I was super stressed and anxious the entire time. I was so careful and knew that one mistake would get me stuck. In fact, I almost did get stuck in some loose sand but made it out. I've not repeated that stupidity since, because as you wrote in the description; don't do it if you can't afford to lose your vehicle.
is there a problem with the winch i would think it would straight pull the truck out. i m not sure what size winch you have i have a twin boom Homes 500 which has 2 20,000lb gear drive pto winches which will break cable easily before it stalls figured your dead pull was about same size wrecker
I can remember a number of years ago when I lived up in Oregon there was a salesman at the dealership I worked for that broke the rules and took a car off of the used car lot and drove it to the beach for the day. Apparently he thought no one would notice. Unfortunately for him the car got stuck in sand and went underwater as the tide came in. Needless to say that was his last day of work.
Back around 1988 my wife and I were on the Washington coast for a couple of days. we stayed in a condo right on the waterfront. We went out for dinner, and when we came back, we could see a light flickering in the surf. By now is dark so we went out to investigate. It was a full size club cab 1 ton ford that was in a river crossing much like this one. There was contractor hired to reroute the river and it was his truck. His son took it for a little drive on the beach and got it stuck in the river and could not get it out. The next day the contractor came with his clam shell excavator, wrapped a couple of chains around the axles (it was bell side up at this point) and pulled it from its crave and cared it off. P.S. it was brand new.
I can't believe Ole Dead pull stood still on this one. The suction, depth of the truck and the amount of sand that had to be in it was a tremendous amount of pull. Knowledge was the key here, between the pulling and the jacking of the boom. Dead pull has some good footing like it was anchored to the sand.
Great one, looked like the whole suspension cratered on the R side not couting the blown tire. Not sure what was going on with the broken camper shell on the back, A Lot of bad things going on with that ride.... Sorry to hear about the winch, when it snapped i had thought the rear axle let go, guess there was more to it than that. Thanks for the description. Its rough when something like That Causes the front end to lift off the ground of Dead Pull.....
I see you got one of them side pullers with the hydraulic feet on Deadpull now! Good when you first set it up you were threatening to do so. Did you ever get that problem you had with starting or charging whatever it was solved George?
found a dead spot on the ignition switch . At a certain point when turning the key it would crank but not supply power to the coil . Go figure something that simple would be such a pain in butt to find .
@@HILLAUTOBODY it's always the last thing that you checked that is the culprit. Family 64 Ford falcons when it was about 15 years old; I was driving it one day and it just quit running I had to pull off the side of the road about 20 minutes later I finally got us to start 15 minutes later stop running. Well I've actually got it back to the house I was only about 5 miles down the road I pulled the gas tank drained yet the thoughts it might be water in it after 15 years nope no water in the gas tank put it back in. Changed the fuel filter, check to make sure when it cranks the fuel is getting into the carburetor. Took the carburetor all apart; no it wasn't the problem. Then one night I decided to pop the hood to start up the vehicle and I hear a clicking sound and I look and I see Sparks going to the strap from the outside of the coil. Found out that the problem was as engine warmed up the heat was causing the coil case to develop cracks and then it was going to ground shutting off the engine. Replaced the coil. Thanks for the reply.
@@HILLAUTOBODY ….lost my ignition on my 1972 IH Travelall on a dark night off-road in Baja California. Didn’t take me too long to find the ground wire on the ignition had broken off because it was being rubbed by the push-pull fuel selector. That beautiful truck carried 50 gallons of fuel in three tanks and it needed every last drop. She never got stuck off road running 12.5s, but at 10,000# with a 390 gas engine she only got 10 MPG at most. I wish I still had that truck. It pulled like a champ.
Maybe when it found the hole it stopped hard and flew up before flopping down hard on the right side. Who knows how fast the guy was going at the time. Nothing but parts now, doubt that this thing will see road use ever again.
i call that the money shot LOL .... lot of youtube tow co never show there front end lifting up in the air doing a super heavy pull like this video George did a nice job pulling that Ranger out of the sand and water looked like it had about 3 tons of wet sand in the cab
@@HILLAUTOBODY ouch!! Thank goodness ya don't do long distance stuff with it! The furthest I've driven mine is to Hill City SD (about 3 and a half hours) and it took $150;worth of fuel!!
#3 of your rules should ring true for everyone. I'm a cheap azz person, I walk the beaches, I refuse to drive despite being told "it's no big deal, everyone does it..."

“She’ll make it” famous last words of Ford ranger enjoyers across the globe
Hey George !!! Great recovery as always !!! "DEAD PULL "" did the job it was supposed to do !!! Have a good week & Thanks !!
What do you use to treat your trucks against rust from driving in salty conditions aka the beach?
My dad's a TV repairman. He's got an awesome set of tools.
I can fix it!

Nice job getting that scrap out of the ocean.👍👍
,,,havin' fun at the beach...lol..good one..
Thank you for bringing me this video. That was something else, well done.
Yay ! 1:30 into the video and Dead-Pull is back in action !
You sure built the truck for the job.
Good job Hill... But I would've left it for NEMO! They just never learn! 😂
It's nice to have the right equipment for the job and know how to use it.

Putting the wheel lift down also keeps the front end from going up . Went straight to shop to wash truck off
Wow, great job keeping your rig from sinking stuck. Nasty stuff but you got it done
That motor is full of salt water,it's toast.
And this is why I never drive a Ford
Stuff what's the breaking strain of that cable good job cheers from OZ.
Boy you can sure tell which side the waves were bashin on by the heavy lean from all the sand built up on the lee side!
Topgear had their toyota buried in the ocean like and it still ran and drove and dropped also
You throw it in 4wd as soon as you hit sand even on hard pack?
I am happy to see Dead Pull again. He "Gets ur done."
That is one sweet Tow Truck
Smart man, brings his waders!
Good ol’dead pull going fishing…. Lol
Skills, muscle, equipment & experience! 👍🇺🇸
Always look forward to your videos, coming out in May for Halibut fishing.
Ford Submarine...i love that tow truck

The 3 foot wave described would probably have been enough to bash the camper shell out of shape.
Lovin' Dead Pull's work!
HI guys from Victoria Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺 hope you all have a great new year and stay safe and well guys 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
FS: Ford Ranger: Running when parked....
That wrecker is awesome!!!!!
"01 Ranger

no low ballers
price is firm
I know what I got."
There's no need for the asterisks.
just a shopping cart dent. it'll buff out.
U put the I h 2 the test people will never learn
Like a fishing rod, back then crank.
Like that t-truck.
Ranger. It takes a lot of force to pull dead pulls front wheels and that Ranger did just that
A heavy Ranger….
How do you keep your trucks from rotting out with all the salt water ?
replace them every 10 years
Surely you rinse off with fresh water or stuff would rust so fast you could watch it! That Frankie is a hustler!

Had same problem with my old white cornbinder . kept dying than would start up and die . bad coil
Had the same dead spot in an IH beet hauling truck. Just took the switch out and put a flip switch and push button in.. problem solved...

HAPPY HOLIDAYS , GEORGE
Wow! The slough ate that truck!
They're not called Ford Rangers they're called Ranger dangers
All the effort for a pile of junk!
Yep ... but it can't stay there
Good job
I can't tell if the truck's load shifted or a broken suspension

It looks like he got stuck and then the surf got it and pounded it. Looks like Its all full of thousands of lbs of sand on the right side now.

But seriously, nice work getting the junk out of the sand. 👍
Should have been 12 a pop at least... The owner ( i suppose it was) kept getting in the way
Nice!!!
Is that ole wrecker full time 4x4? My 85 iGMC is and she's a beast! (When she's not breaking front drivelines) but she gets 4-5 mpg...
locking hubs in front and 2 speed transfer case . Gets about 3 to 4 mpg

Dead pull sure is looking nice, great recovery.
I don't doubt that sand has worse suction than mud..
you should do some will it start videos on stuff like this they get lots of views on you tube
Throw it back, it’s undersize.
I see his trucks being exposed to the sea salt all the time , how does he keep his trucks from rusting out ???
Nice work!
