When I was about 6 a neighbor farmer got his tractor stuck in a field. They used one of those types of ropes that stretch as you pull on them. They tried pulling the tractor out from behind and the rope snapped and instantly killed the guy inside the cab of the stuck tractor. From what we were told, of which I will spare you all the details the scene was gory. We never ever used those stretch ropes on our farm. It was on the local news minus the gory details. The tractor was still there in the field for several days if not a week before it was finally moved. So YES it's good to stay away from that cable you use on your wrecker.
Laying blankets over the cable will greatly reduce the velocity if it breaks. Even a coat helps. I cringe when I see this operator handling that wire rope (cable) with his bare hands. They always have slivered strands that can leave a nasty gash, besides they are greasy!
Ropes are meant to be used in certain situation like sand or snow. The stretch helps then but for pulling heavy equipment always use a cable with proper load rating. Even then when I use a rope I and the person in the other vehicle duck down just in case. As for the other comments yes I agree there should be more protection for the operator at the controls and I agree about the cable and stuff but this operator (George) has more experience than we can fathom. He is old school and may do things a little on the sketchy side but he knows how to get the job done and I have never seen him have a problem. He knows when to duck LOL
He's probably pretty safe. The cable will want to go straight me thinks so the front of the other truck and the back of his is the main impact site. Obviously there's the random chance it flings off but still, only so much you can do.
I was gonna leave a comment but seems like everyone that has left a comment are freaking professional tow truck/recovery specialist So I will just keep my opinion to my self
Malicious, Props to the dad for BEING A DAD. This kid is learning a lot more than what might be obvious. A lot of kids seeing this video are jealous as hell of this young man. This kid HAS a dad, not just a chair in front of a TV screen.
I've seen worse. Lake Camanche South Shore during extreme low water. People backed up the the waters edge and sunk. So a tow truck shows up and tries to pull them out. Tow truck gets stuck. Tow truck # 2 shows up to bail them out. They get stuck. Called another tow company, they brought a rig like yours and pulled everyone out.
That must be frustrating mr.hill, all these mr. Know it alls, I work with a bunch of them, criticizing everyone, they must be perfect and flawless in there life, damn I hate people like them.
I drove semi trucks but not wreckers but on the truck that was stuck if you would have put the extra drive rides down wouldn't of that displaced the weight more. And made it easier
those are just single wheels right? I think having the dually wheels on the ground by themselves is best, those single ones might have had more of a "blade" effect and dug into the sand
I broke a drive line on a kw dump just like that hauling massive rip rock. they grenaded under my cab like a ied LOL one twizzler stick drive line and one shattered yolk....
truck driver wearing a hard hat on the beach, both towies 1 bare headed, other with cap on... maybe there's a risk of flying drop bears or diving seagulls
OKS !!!! You guys don't have gloves on to handle that wire rope !!! From my experience with that,,wire rope will eat your hands up in a NY heart beat !!! Anyhows,, glad you made out alright with the pull !!! KEEP IT SAFE !!!
"Stucker then"? I guess if you only have a grade 8 education, tow truck driver is one if your few options in life. No diss intended. You guys work hard and you provide an income for your family.
probably too heavy for the sand, better to use the smaller wrecker that if it gets stuck in the sand, they can then use their big wrecker to pull it out.
marcos 989 it wasn't even hardly moving now if it was moving faster then yes it would have done harm to his hands but yes he should always be wearing safety gloves no matter the circumstances
When rescue a vehicle and you do some damage to the vehicle being rescued are you responsible for any damages that may acccure while saving the vehicle?
The State pays the County to maintain the beach approaches so cars can get onto and off off the beach . The Ocean tears the ends of the approaches up so they have to keep adding rock
Heh, your front wheels seemed to go 3x in the vertical that theirs went horizontal! How much do you estimate that rig weighed when you finally pulled her out through the dumped gravel?
The gravel or shells were dumped behind the trailer so there should have been no problem there and I dont know a dump trucks exact weight but I do know a OTR rig with a sleeper weighs in at about 20,000lbs. So rough guess he was around 30K with the gravel.
+Jeffrey Yatkowski If they had done this prior to the drive line snapping it would have worked . The grader couldn't pull the entire 100,000 lbs on its own .
From Google reviews, "George is dishonest, uncaring, and overall a lacking in moral character. He took advantage of my mother with bipolar disorder, charged her $350 dollars to tow her car off the highway, and then impounded the car until she could pay, leaving her no way to get home to Portland. This forced her to navigate Pacific county, a place she had never been to, in the dead of winter without a car and to struggle to get to astoria where the greyhound could pick her up. He was rude and unhelpful during the whole process getting the car back and treating us like dirt. Avoid this business at all costs."
He was stucker cause that dump driver got those rear ends a bouncin' when he started to spin. Twists the drive shaft completely in two sometimes. 1500 lbs. torque through several reduction gears maybe 30,000 lbs. at the driveshaft. Yah, I've done it, any driver in a dump will have broke one sometime. Specially draggin a pup.
+brian topczewski WA STate pays the County to maintain beach access for the Clam Diggers . If they quit putting rock down the approaches would be impossible to use without 4x4
+pachy444 It really screws up my weekend for beach tows though . WE will see big pushes to fix the approaches just before big clam tide runs or 3 day holidays . The County will be dressing them up for memorial weekend next week
Yeah....no gloves on a cable like that just makes me cringe....but hey...if its "new"...who knows, but yeah...Gotta get some GOOOD glove for cable work...IMO....
+Hill Auto Body & Towing seems to me you do pretty well in life regardless of your grammar and spelling if fact I would bet your pulling in more money than most of the college boys that are correcting you and without $100,000 in student loans to pay back
What does stucker mean?? I looked it up in the dictionary and couldn't find it,i then searched online for the word but no such word was to be found,i did find one website that states it could be the definition of an idiot trying to describe something being stuck in or on something, possibly American terminology.
Quite the operation, well setup tow rig and operator, great place for the business, endless work
Excellent job keeping the kid back first and foremost.
that was one stuck truck but thats what you get for stealing sand lol.
Hell, the county should have paid you a lot of money. You did all the work for those guys!!
I love how some of those wrecker bodies have a double set of late 80's early 90's Dodge tail lights in them.

Boyd W I always wonder about the sadety of having the controls right at the back of the wrecker wih no protection for the operator.

Happens all round the world with snatch straps and worn pins or better yet, tow balls(ideal missile material)
Thank you for sharing these events. Always interesting to me.

That's why you start laying rock at the beginning of the road, not the end. Must be County workers.
props for the dad being on top of his kids location first thing before they started
Malicious,
Props to the dad for BEING A DAD. This kid is learning a lot more than what might be obvious. A lot of kids seeing this video are jealous as hell of this young man. This kid HAS a dad, not just a chair in front of a TV screen.
i was droppin dirt on a freshly built up hill for kiewit and sunk clear to the axles once in my old tandem, they used a dozer to pull me out lol
Mike B congratulations

DJ David J then we all headed to Tillie's
If you don't have the video, it didn't happen...
That driver saved you the hassle of climbing under to disconnect the driveshaft. Hope you gave him a discount.
That must be frustrating mr.hill, all these mr. Know it alls, I work with a bunch of them, criticizing everyone, they must be perfect and flawless in there life, damn I hate people like them.
Age and Experience overcomes youth and stupidity.
ranjit, it's THEIR life, love _your_ perfect speeling....
Have never seen a single rear axle heavy wrecker before.
Well at least you don't have to drop the drive shaft to effect the tow! It's not ALL BAD....lol
I drove semi trucks but not wreckers but on the truck that was stuck if you would have put the extra drive rides down wouldn't of that displaced the weight more. And made it easier
no you want you pusher or tag up when off-road because when down it creates more drag because they aren't drive axles
those are just single wheels right? I think having the dually wheels on the ground by themselves is best, those single ones might have had more of a "blade" effect and dug into the sand
I broke a drive line on a kw dump just like that hauling massive rip rock. they grenaded under my cab like a ied LOL
one twizzler stick drive line and one shattered yolk....
The guy was hopping and spinning the drive tires in that wet sand with the diffs and axles locked in. Extremely hard on drive lines and U joints.
well there's your problem the one spinny bit it's not a attached to the other spinny bit
Wow the difference to what a pup is by me. The loggers pups are way different here.
truck driver wearing a hard hat on the beach, both towies 1 bare headed, other with cap on... maybe there's a risk of flying drop bears or diving seagulls
County workers rules and regulations rarely make much sense.
Can't get much more stuck than this either.
Fully loaded truck and trailer on a beach iodits.
Loaded dump truck on a sandy beach... What could go wrong with that?
A loaded truck pulling a loaded 20T pup on a sandy beach...
To be fair they broke the yoke on the driveshaft so not much you can do after that. Poor maintenance maybe?
@@0xsergy just bad luck. They could have a new shafts put in but I'm sure the tide was a large factor.
Drive shaft broke because they were getting stuck and dumping the clutch
That's a big job
that's a nice shinny paint job on that big red tow truck musta been painted by some expert paint professionals eh?
OKS !!!! You guys don't have gloves on to handle that wire rope !!! From my experience with that,,wire rope will eat your hands up in a NY heart beat !!! Anyhows,, glad you made out alright with the pull !!! KEEP IT SAFE !!!
Next time drive in reverse & release the gravel.
The video man was found lacking. LOL
When dump trucks are empty, they have a tendency to bounce.
"Stucker then"? I guess if you only have a grade 8 education, tow truck driver is one if your few options in life. No diss intended. You guys work hard and you provide an income for your family.
So what were they doing with that load of rock on the beach?
making a hard surface to drive on and off the beach
My question is,,,,, WTF was that dump truck doing there in the first place? AND,,,, WTF was it dumping?
Great videos
Dump water on your tires on Lu saying then drive out it will always work don't dig a hole
Is this how they make gravel roads on the beach? I bet O'Hare doesn't get jobs like this.
Hell you all ask ? What is a dump truck doing on the beach ? well they are building a road so the public can drive out farther and get more Stucker
Works for me
Nice job!!!
Question of the day is what the hell is the dump truck doing on a beach anyways
Pick up sand?
How come you didnt use the bigger wrecker? The one you used to lift the rock off the lowboy.
probably too heavy for the sand, better to use the smaller wrecker that if it gets stuck in the sand, they can then use their big wrecker to pull it out.
At least it wasn't a transfer dump.
stucker, I like that!
Now you see there? How often do you get customers who fill in their own stuck ruts? Good stuff :-)
marcos 989 it wasn't even hardly moving now if it was moving faster then yes it would have done harm to his hands but yes he should always be wearing safety gloves no matter the circumstances
When rescue a vehicle and you do some damage to the vehicle being rescued are you responsible for any damages that may acccure while saving the vehicle?
If you're purposely negligent yes you could be held liable . If damage occurs in a recovery that is unavoidable than no .
That's why you have contracts. That way if there is any damage, they can't hold you liable later unless they can prove neglect.
Hope he Has very good insurance
That maintainer couldn't pull it out??
that is what I thought too
A lot of people in the danger zone if the cable snapped.
No gloves handling a cable like that what would the insurance co.have to say about that
a grader can do more then people think it can if you know how to use one
Except pull out a loaded double dump.
than
What the hell is the gravel on the beach for anyway ?

why didn't they just use the grader to pull the dump truck out. more power and less hasle
+Jeffrey Yatkowski
If they had done this prior to the drive line snapping it would have worked . The grader couldn't pull the entire 100,000 lbs on its own .

Good for George not being suckered by deadbeats
Who's the brain cell who drove a loaded tipper onto a soft sandy beach? Don't have to be driving heavies for long to know not to do that
What were they doing... A boat ramp lol
Hard hats? On the beach??? That would have to be a first!

Damn OSHA !

ouch. aint really heard of breaking drive line too much

I've seen driveshafts spun/twisted so much that they snapped.
And I'm talking big trucks, not your basic pick-ups.
Happens all the time.....Big horsepower going to immovable object.
This must be how the Chinese build islands.

The kid is learning........Try it sometime. It's never too late.
William Walton : this is the real world snowflake. Try it sometime.
Who's bright idea was this.
what the hell was a dump truck full of gravel doing on a beach?

Is this a new Version of "Dumb and Dumber" ... ?
the missing link
Are spectators anything like tater tots?
Put your RUclips picture as one of your trucks
How about put one of your trucks as your RUclips picture
D9 Cat would have gotten it out much easier and probably faster.
Have you ever seen a expensive D9 on a beach? Ever seen one stuck?

Next time, use a bigglier dictionary. The USA is the originator of every cool, farout, and groovy word there is.
Where on earth did you learn to speak? There is no such word as "stucker".
There is now. This is how words are made.
