Stunning performance!! Prelude is a rapid treble supported by punctuated bass line. Beautiful!! Pogorelich's lively and nuanced phrasing can bring one to tears. For instance, me!! Sudden pianissimo ending is sublime. Expressive Allemande demonstrates the fine musicianship of Pogorelich. Courante is animated contrast. In a lovely Sarabande, Pogorelich pairs with J.S. Bach to move even the most immovable heart. Upon repeating, Pogorelich adds lovely ornamentation in true Baroque style. Subtle rubato adds to the beauty of this movement. Bouree I is quietly driven with nuanced changes of tempo. Bouree II is stimulating with its dynamic harmony. Dancing, fit for a king and the common folk!! A stimulating Gigue brings this composition to an "end" which will continue in my ears' memory. What an exciting introduction to Ivo Pogorelich's approach to the J.S. Bach. Polished and heartfelt interpretation!! Thank you, David!!
To start with I thought. This is too fast. But then I recalibrated my brain & now think it's wonderful. I'm going to be listening to this a lot more. BTW how the heck did Bach write such so much brilliant complex unsurpassed music? I just don't know.
What a wonderful performance of this English Suite of Bach’s! I have heard it before on the harpsichord but the piano is more dynamic and stirring! Thanks for posting! 🦋🦆🐑🍀🎹🎶🌹😀👍🎈💐
I learned a lot about listening to Bach from the 70's recording Switched on Bach, which used the synthesizer to differentiate the various voices. Amazingly, he seems to be able to do this on the piano.
Hallo David, A little time ago I start with practisch some of Bach songs ( the slow one ), and I like this version of The English Suite No.2 played by Ivo and Martha special the Sarabande and Allemande ( because it is slow ) maybe later the fast one,s. But I can not find the sheet music of it. Can you tell me were to find it or a link were to buy them. Thxx for let us enjoy this nice Bach songs.
Totally agree. I know Gould was a master studio musician and that his recordings are really a splice of multiple performances, but for me his English 2 Prelude is one of the greatest piano recordings of all time. It is utter perfection.
Bach is The Greatest Musician of All Times.

Wow, I rather liked this vigorous style, the piercing staccato really works. thank you for this.
C'est incontestablement ce que Pogorelich a fait de mieux.

Why is he playing it so SLOWLY?

I prefer Gould’s over this. Too fast and too many stresses on various notes for my taste. Had I never heard Gould’s, perhaps I would feel differently.
Agree. I also recommend Andras Schiff.
@@davidhertzbergyes! Schiff’s productions and lectures are always worth their weight in gold!
