I was looking for a live performance of him to play whilst studying. Turns out that none of them are suitable for this kind of purpose.. They're so good I can only watch and listen. I don't trust myself listening to his content.
A lot of people are complaining about his recent albums but have to realize he made those albums for him. Born and Raised changed my life and I'm grateful for that album. Paradise Valley was made in 2 months if I remember correctly and that album is much better than what I can write in 2 years. Mayer has made hit after hit and when he finally discovers a new chapter in his life everyone flips out. More power to this genius.
He's so fucking good it blows my mind. There are few like him anymore cause he's at the level of greatness of all the real greats of the 60s and 70s. I never tire of listening to him.
He was special always, but after 8 year's leading Dead and Company - he's also a cosmic traveler. Smart, funny, profoundly talented guy. Love him. (said by a Harley riding, fully tattooed, gun club secretary)
In 2022 appreciating John to the max in this time capsule concert! He's a consummate artist and timeless, timeless, timeless, the way art should be. I suspect fans old and new will still be adoring viewing this same concert in many years to come, and it will seem like it just happened yesterday. That's the way JM planned it. I love it, I love him! He's a A Genius, A Master, The Man and THE KING ❣💡🌟💎👑
He is the Mozart of the 21st century... All artists wanna work with him. Solo. Trio. R/B, Rap, The Dead, etc etc etc... Music flows through him like air in your lungs. On a simple breeze. He makes men wanna be him and women wet at just the thought of being touched like he touches his guitar. If you diss him you are not getting it and if you praise him its in his ear and out the other. He is him. And he loves it that way. I hope I can some day get another chance to jam along side him. I love him. He is my brother from another mother.
He is the only musician/artist of my generation that has been able to broaden my respect for various genres of music. Was never a big Blues fan until I hear his Continuum album and JMTrio stuff... never cared too much for Folk Rock until I listened to his Born & Raised album (had that Bob Dylan, Neil Young, John Denver vibe)... he is GREAT at passing down the respect for the musicians/artists that came before him. Thanks John!
I love how John's whole face gets involved so intensely with the music. He is clearly in his zone. This grandma loves her some Mayer music. Amazing concert performance. There's a reason why he is still growing strong - his music always delivers and is relevant, relatable, varied, and always delivers. So glad I stumbled upon this hour of really good music. Thank you, John!
My theory about John Mayer is his heart is in the blues, you can tell that right down from the tone of his guitar every live show. But he doesn't want to limit himself and likes to see where he can grow in other areas. This is why his album's genres have gone from (starting from first to last album) pop, rock, blues, back to pop-rock, folk, and now finally country-folk. His guitar playing alone easily places him as one of the all time greats, but sadly he'll never get that recognition because he doesn't stick to a genre like the SRVs, Claptons, EVHs, etc etc etc had, which in turn affects his tone every album and nobody can figure out if he excels or not because while i'll boast about him cause of Covered in Rain, he'll be dogged on for Your Body is a Wonderland. This warps people's opinions on him, especially guitar aficionados. Mayer will never get the respect he probably deserves because of this, which honestly makes me feel bad for the guy. But one thing is for damn sure: pop, blues, or folk, he's one of the greatest guitarists out there (I'd go as for to say the most talented among active artists). I highly recommend watching the opening track to his Where The Light Is live album ("Neon"), this is what changed my mind about his abilities.
I'd be honored if some old-school John Mayer fans would take a quick listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of his early masterpieces CLARITY and LOVE SOON on my YT channel in tribute to the boss. Live acoustic with no digital editing. Thanks and peace out.
@Krowten networK I was thinking exactly this. There is a bit of a joke that Mayer is loved by women and guitar players. Every musician or guitar player I have known of, recognizes him as one of the best.
@@LiamMuzzaMurray Yea but its just sad that it's limited to musicians. Speaking of the average listeners, he's just overrated. It makes me wanna punch them in the face
I can't believe I'm writing this ...but I'm new to John Mayer...well new in the sense of being in complete JM overload mode at the moment. A class act from the start to latest music on 'Sob Rock'. I love the different genres, it's what makes him great. His talent is mindblowing to say the least. The lyrics, the voice, the guitar ,the look. He has it all. Long may he continue to be spellbinding to me in his delivery of the music he loves.
Me too @aw4925! I've ALWAYS really liked him, but until I just got to go to last GD Sphere shows, I'm ADORING him & catching up BIG time! The sound the band had during the Born and Raised/ Paradise Valley era is hands down my favourite. This version of Belief is a perfect example of this. It’s open, wide, deep and spacey yet still focused and tight. And John‘s playing during this era doesn’t even need to be mentioned.
I just can't think that how much mental preparation one needs to perform in front of this huge crowd, with that much confidence that John has in this concert. Damn, that's insane !
For those who are not happy about his vocals, consider trying to sing every day and you'll find out what happens to your throat and vocal cords. They get tired. John will recover in time. I just hope he isn't piushing himself too hard and thus causing more damage. This concert is awesome....love it !!!
He is a guitar god and isn't it boring to always be a "one trick pony"? I am born in the sixties and it is the glorious variety I appreciate with John!! And not to forget, he takes a stand! Nobody needs to strive to be everyone's darling! John, keep rocking on!!
people just don't understand. he's cute and writes catchy tunes and the girls flock to him. at the same time, Clapton, Bonamassa, Trucks, etc. watch him and know how ridiculously talented he is. he doesn't play like Via and Satriani, but he can.

Man he’s got some chops, I wasn’t a big fan but seeing this live concert really shows his skills. Dude can really play, band sounds amazing too. Great listen on a summer day.
Finally! A concert I like more than where the light is! More variety in songs, more color from the band, and everyone on stage complimented each other so well. I loved what every single person was doing on the stage. Best John Mayer concert ever (so far)!
Chinchillupa Guy Haha no. Where the light is is so much better than this concert. First of all, the acoustic set, secondly, the awesome JM Trio set with Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino.. Also, John played much better at the Nokia Theatre, fact.
Christian van Vliet Where the light is was more rehearsed and precise, I'll give you that. But this concert had more soul and was just a jam sesh. I'm not gonna dispute the trio, i totally agree, but I wouldn't say John played better. John ran through more scales no doubt, but this concert he was singing with his guitar!
It takes a bad sound engineer to bring in front guys playing in the shadows. But I enjoyed hearing how funky Zane sounded sometimes. Especially in Belief.
Gravity is just amazing, love to hear it as the ending song for the show. John is such an incredible artist, the passion and vibe radiating from him makes me feel like i was at the concert too. what a beautiful performance
John Mayer has by far been one of my favorite artists of this time period. He has definitely had his share of ups and downs as well. You can tell from the progression of his music that he has gone from Pop, to Jazz, to a more Folk/Country style as his tastes have evolved. It doesn't mean he is a bad artist, on the other hand it is showing he is versatile and talented enough to venture out of the comfort zone that most artists stay in. With respect to everyone throwing a fit of his tastes changing, its understandable, but no talented and smart artist is going to linger around in "The Good Ol' Days" to make good music. Yes, his "Where the Light Is" tour in LA was amazing to say the least (which I have heard too many say). But there were multiple factors you have to take into consideration when comparing albums! For instance: - He was playing in a indoor stadium that was built for acoustics. You can't compare an outdoor venue and an indoor acoustic venue for the same sound quality, any experienced musician would tell you they will never sound the same - The venue in LA was his own concert, not a festival. Festivals are unpack, plug in, test, and play. The sound tuning going into his concert in LA I guarantee was way more involved than his performance shown here. - Vocal surgery is something you don't get over immediately. His concerts usually run over an hour or so. That kind of strain on vocals can wear on a person and I don't expect someone to be on their A game after a surgery to repair a very delicate muscle. I understand how people want to judge the guy, but its easy to throw blame and judgment at people when you are sitting behind your computer. Try getting on stage and being perfect when music alone is a very delicate lady.
couldnt hold my feelings back when i watched this. (i was at this concertand i was so amazed that he sounds live even much better than every record i've ever heard! it's incredible how many feelings you conect with someones music if you hear and play it day fby day.)
having seen him live many times and a devoted listener...this is definitely a return to the voice. Not trying to reach the spaces before!! Welcome back John
slow dancing in a burning room, the way he ends his first solo from 47:29 til 47:33 with the 5 strums instead of an articulated lick for me is arguably the best version of it.
Actually that is just one of the bum notes he and the band members hit. I heard a few notes either out of tune or just the wrong note entirely. I liked his facial expression for that one though. Hey he's only human and after all it was an hour of intense playing in front of a huge audience outdoors in the open air. Nobody's that machine perfect, believe me.
Man, this man has soul, AND the he knows how to give. Listen to this performance from about minute 40 and further. You know then you listen to one of the greatest singer songwriter guitarplayers ever. It's the whole package. Not his best performance huh? Still good enough to stand out against about everything else I heard in about 50 years. Be greatefull and say thank you to a true artist.
I have been here and I had such a good time. He rocked this! He was on stage right before the Rolling stones which means a lot of people didn't come for him but for the stones and he just ROCKED it was amazing
Only morons who don't have an ability to understand the art of putting together amazing words to a beat think that John Mayer is ordinary. All the popularity he has proves he's is beyond genius. To express real every day feelings in poetry style is a real art, I know because I'm an artist myself and although I lived 59 years on this planet, I don't claim to have a fraction of the talent that young John has. Those who don't get it just need to analyze the words he puts together to create a feeling but even beyond that, he creates the mood of those words thru his music. The listener can actually feel himself in that moment. .Slow Dancing in a Burning Room is just one example of being able to visualize the fire overtaking the room as the conflicted couple slow dance to their death. Another example is "Dreaming with a Broken Heart." The most beautiful part of that song, in my opinion is at the end when he asks, "Why do I have to fall asleep with roses in my hand? It can be left to interpretation which makes a variety of visuals for whatever the listener relates to. Some can even see it as a romeo and julliet type suicide where he loved her so much that he killed himself and is laying in the coffin with roses in his hand. John Mayer is brilliant. He's nothing else.
It's all good, John Mayer in my opinion is an excellent artist. As a young musician, I wouldn't have checked out as many older artists if it wasn't for him. He respects his roots and continues to push for what he believes his music should be. At the end of the day, to each his own. Art is a totally subject topic, thank god.
Great show. I like how he communicates with the band, talking to them at the end of the songs through a mic directly to their in-ears. Makes the show more adaptable to how he is feeling & song choice, love it.
Everyone saying he sucks makes absolutely no sense. Wrote every single song on the track-list here, that should be more than enough to justify that he is a good musician.
John is the man! He was given, in my humble opinion, the greatest honor when Bobby, Bill, and Mickey wanted him to be the one to keep the torch aflame years from now. The fact John let there be no doubt that playing Dead and Company was a lifetime deal was like a gift from above. The Grateful Dead changed my life some 23 years ago, and just as John says, the magic of the Dead is that you are always finding yet another "moment" in the songs. Thank you John for taking up the challenge of keeping the magic alive in a world in desperate need. We are all both amazed, and proud of you! Stay well
How can anyone say "what a waste of talent?!?!" John Mayer has worked extremely hard to get where he is today. Yes, his albums do not reflect a lot of what his skills are capable of, but he has played the music business in a genius way. His early albums were tailored to the "pop" young crowd who likes that love song, your body is a wonder land acoustic stuff, Which I too am a slight fan of. Once those all sold millions of copies and made Mayer millions of dollars, he is now in a position to where he can play the music that influenced him the most, like blues! Now he is free to create projects like the John Mayer Trio and get invited to Eric Clapton's crossroads festival, play with Clapton himself, meet guitar gods like buddy guy. So before you go and start calling his music shit or he is a waste of talent, think about the talent it took to make those first albums, and think about the talent you have to have in order to catch the attention of Clapton. Music is a way of expressing emotions when there are no words.......
Chad B. I assume you don’t play , but if you do , don’t be mad , Joe isn’t comparable with John , besides , John sings better and has more SRV heart than joe does
Kelsier In terms of technicality in all honesty even Mayer beats Bonamassa in that regard. Joe can play fast sure, but so can John, and with a lot more feel. Joe is talented of course, but not even a comparison.
Joe can kill the guitar he can play the fast blues country licks and he respects the art of the song, and he sings well. John has a more pop sensibility to his songwriting and he straddles the infectious pop stuff and the blues stuff well. I dig them both for different reasons.
i wouldn't say he is underrated i mean he has multiple Grammy, plays at amazing concerts plays with blues legends, has had 3 electric signature model guitars 2 sig acoustics, and just finished an amazing summer playing with the Grateful Dead (Dead and Company) and based on the concerts I went to i talked to a lot of the dead heads there and at the beginning of the show they were skeptical about him and by the end they loved him. So i wouldn't say he is underrated I believe he is a pop artist.
He is not underrated at all, srs, idk where you took that from, everyone knows his name, boys and girls who like pop, guitar players, blues enthusiasts, all kinds of musicians
You mean the story about how your mom and sister tagged teamed John and you were left taking pictures? Yeah... the kinda blows that you could offer a little something more. Maybe next time.
The concerts he played recently are great. Like Barclay's 2013 listen to that.. Internet archive.. The ones he played before are also great. John Mayer is a great live musician meaning not only does he improvise.. He doesn't play the same songs year after year.. Those people that want him to play the second set of where the light is at every concert.. That's what the Blu-ray is for. After reading so many comments on John Mayer recordings.. I want to coin a new term.. Bluesholes.. Guys that think anything that is not all blues all the time is crap.. And they also seem to think Mayer is not so good at the blues but I really don't understand that. Sounds good to me. Maybe it's not harsh enough to be considered real blues but I like it.
Rock hard. You will, as this superb concert fulfills your being with sonic thrills galore. Top-notch musicians throughout, that compliment each other for your total enjoyment. Come on. Rock on.

You can hear his voice is weaker in this performance (still amazing). Just makes me appreciate how lucky we are that his throat healed and that we still get to hear new music from him today. Love this concert.
Listening and watching to john, how is he playing and how is he feeling all his music is everything for me,he is the best!!! I love this man!! It's my biggest dream to listen him live and to play with him :))
Pretty solid show. Mayer seemed a bit put out, perhaps by the crowd. He continues to write great tunes and plays them well. Sometimes musicians slag on him, but he's the real deal. A lot of his songs are timeless. There aren't many pop/rock stars these days that have such a catalogue on skills to bring it live. My two cents.

@@jacqueline2085 Thankx ;)
Watching John is like standing in line for confession, with my heart racing and my conscience burnishing.
Amazing !!! Mayer is a legend. Permanent vocal damage. He is so amazing !! One of the best guitarists and songwriters !
Completely agree 🎶 ⛅️ 👣
John Mayer the secret hero of the blues... slowly sneaking the blues back into pop
slow dancing in a burning room, the way he ends his first solo from 47:29 til 47:33 with the 5 strums instead of an articulated lick for me is arguably the best version of it.
He is a legend, dudes...
Yeah dudes
Absolutly dude.
@@TheNashEquil He changed when he joined the Grateful Dead. Humbled and grateful, no pun intended. Everyone deserves a second chance. Blessing
OMG! I didn't know that. Thanks for information 😂
@@chrisjohnny7913 BUULLL SHIT!!
He will be remembered as a legend. Sadly not enough people can recognize his genius or his mastery.
42:20 that guy looks like he's having the time of his life
lol
muthafuka has a front row ticket to john mayer and he's acting like this?!
too true! Clearly has no music taste hahaha
He was probably waiting there for hours to have front row places for the Rolling Stones. They played after John.
but still there's no excuse for a face like that;)
He is human after all! 1:00:59 bum note and his reaction. Not too often that you'll see this from one of our modern masters.
As Thelonius Monk said, "I played the wrong wrong note".
If you weren't at the concert you'd still feel that passion. thank you for being compassionate.
His playing is so relaxed, laid back. Great to see and hear him playing
You sweaty
Yes. You are among the elite... Welcome
Thank you so much man!
One hour of Mayer a day keeps the doctor away
I don't need no doctor
Thomas van de Werff good one
Your bill still come
John majer sing through his nose.
Wow that intro to Half Of My Heart is the best thing ever!
JM always puts on a beautiful and precisely perfect concert as always. just like heaven
I wish I was there :( john mayer is the greatest musician alive!
Stay well
John is such an amazing artist.
That intro for I Don't Trust Myself, incredible
How can anyone say "what a waste of talent?!?!"
John Mayer has worked extremely hard to get where he is today.
Just as great as always!
This guy keeps amazing me. Such beautiful guitar play. One of the best guitar players around!
For me, JM's music is infinitely more creative and interesting than Bonamassa’s.
Chad B. I assume you don’t play , but if you do , don’t be mad , Joe isn’t comparable with John , besides , John sings better and has more SRV heart than joe does
One could say that that Joe is a better guitarist, and John is a better musician
@@kelsier1726 Wouldnt say joe is better guitarist. John is way more capable of what he is showing in songs.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻I just get lost in this concert...this man is such a true talent with skills beyond the norm!!
John and Band Were Fantastic. He Always Delivers.
I love so much John Mayer's music.
He's a great guitarrist too.
His music performance in this concert can only be described as sophisticated and tasteful - no BS just a real artist sharing his gifts.
Wow love every minute John Mayer is the King 🎤🎸
So enjoying this concert. Wish I was there to soak in the live grooves, music and atmosphere
I so like JM. He is so talented and charming
I have tickets for a concert already 2022 April
Full band version of who says..
This is epic
That drop on Half of my Heart is EVERYTHING
His backup singers are on point
Yes,thats true.
I was there somewhere in the front. Loved every second of it. Right after him the rolling stones played. Magical night.
VERY underrated guitarist... A lot of his music is not my preference but he is crazy good!
i wouldn't say he is underrated i mean he has multiple Grammy, plays at amazing concerts plays with blues legends, has had 3 electric signature model guitars 2 sig acoustics, and just finished an amazing summer playing with the Grateful Dead (Dead and Company) and based on the concerts I went to i talked to a lot of the dead heads there and at the beginning of the show they were skeptical about him and by the end they loved him. So i wouldn't say he is underrated I believe he is a pop artist.
He is not underrated at all, srs, idk where you took that from, everyone knows his name, boys and girls who like pop, guitar players, blues enthusiasts, all kinds of musicians
Bobby, you need to look up "underrated" in a dictionary
Exactly gotta respect him as an artist
indeed, he is a pop singer who can also plays guitar at a very skillful level
'cause a little bit of summer is what the whole year is all about!!
greetings from Argentina!! loved the show in Buenos Aires
I went to one of John Mayers shows this year with my mom and sister.. and well.. you know how the story went..
Great band thou!
You mean the story about how your mom and sister tagged teamed John and you were left taking pictures? Yeah... the kinda blows that you could offer a little something more. Maybe next time.
Ich liebe diesen Konzert und höre es mir sehr oft an... Er ist einfach ein Fantastischer Musiker, und ein verdammt gut aussehender Mann..
Thank you!!!! Great and truthful comment.
How do 594 people {at time of comment} not like this ??? there should be zero thumbs down for this exceptional performance !!!
The bass sound in the Belief chorus is mind blowing, so much better than the record!
Agreed! I was just thinking the same thing!
Rock hard. You will, as this superb concert fulfills your being with sonic thrills galore. Top-notch musicians throughout, that compliment each other for your total enjoyment. Come on. Rock on.
Beautiful concert, wish I could see him live.
Grande Jhon continua così e facci sognare con la tua musica, sei il più fenomenale chitarrista del pianeta, fai in modo di programmare un tour anche in Italia, ti aspettiamo!!
wow, haven't heard John play "No such thing" in years.
Absolutely GOAT !!!
Thank you John
Great Music
Great talent
Massive sound
Thumbs up !!!! 🤘
The amount of crap talking in this post is insane. This is a great performance.
Really. This man is an artistic genius. wtf is wrong with these people. Haters gonna hate..
You can hear his voice is weaker in this performance (still amazing). Just makes me appreciate how lucky we are that his throat healed and that we still get to hear new music from him today. Love this concert.
Einfach nur sagenhaft dieser John Mayer. ..Grossartig....Grossartig....Es hat Spaß gemacht zu zuhören. ..Danke I Love you..♥♡♥
The Going Down the Road Feelin' Bad > Slow Dancing is pretty damn impressive.
Best part of the show
Definitely the best version of I Don't Trust Myself I've ever heard. And i heard a lot.
Didn't know that one, thanks mate
Absolutely! I was ready to see steam or flames coming off of him Man was on fire 🔥
This man is legend ... dont know if we get another john mayer in future...
Agreed. People are going to feel dumb later for sleeping on how good he is.
Thanks for all the shots of the pretty girls.
DAMN this makes me miss Steve and Pino so firkkin much!!!
matthew wortley tell me about it... :(
hehe, indeed!! :)
+matthew wortley to bad he doesn't like Steve at all. Makes me so sad that their personalities conflicted too much.
sadly not. There personalities conflict too much. They both acted as the center of attention and it really irritated John.
+Samuel Clayton what? He fucking loves Steve Jordan. If they didn't like each other, they wouldn't have made any music together.
John's my favorite songwriter and performer in the last 20 years
maybe me too
get hooked on DMB for awhile too
Listening and watching to john, how is he playing and how is he feeling all his music is everything for me,he is the best!!! I love this man!! It's my biggest dream to listen him live and to play with him :))
JM always puts on a beautiful and precisely perfect concert as always. just like heaven 8:55
Can't believe people are not going crazy during Queen of Cali solo :)
I really am enjoying the country sound of his performances lately, its so uplifting
I love it....So nice to see everyone smiling to sweet music.............Having a celebration...a good time! He's got some really nice guitars.....and he can play!
