I grew up saltwater fishing in Smithtown Bay, West Meadow, and Greenport. Your videos bring an ache to my heart for the happy youth I spent in those Waters Fishing at night and staying out of trouble as a young man LOL
I've been looking at those waders for a while. Glad to hear how comfortable they are...interested in how durable they are. Clear, concise information, and as always great content. Thanks Skinner
I have some felt sole wading boots that I screw cold kutter screws in for the korker effect. They have great grip, are affordable and easy to replace if they rust or fall out.
Another great fishing video from John, narrated professionally as usual and filled with useful knowledge for all. The last striper is a nice catch. Thanks.
John when you’re finding new spots to do this kind of fishing are you looking on depth maps for deep water? What makes you want to cast in the spot you’re casting?
I like the felt bottom too, especially when I'm salmon fishing in the Norhern NY rivers... they're not illegal in NY, but they suggest that you don't use them... but as long as you dry the felts thoroughly after you fish with them, there's very little chance of transporting any "unwanteds" from one place to another... nice catch on the stripers btw!
Nice man. I bought those same Frogg Toggs last year. Unfortunately they only lasted a season until they started leaking. Also that front pocket is not waterproof (i learned the hard way). Hopefully my new $50 Hodgeman boot foot hold up this season. Tight lines skinner!
John ... what are your thoughts on using an FG knot or Uni to Uni for a leader to braid connection in the surf..i'm finding it works well and reduces potential damage to the tip top guide from the barrel swivel..thank you
I never hit the tip with the swivel. Been fishing that way all my life. A lot of people do a direct braid to leader connection, so stay with it if it works for you.
Hi john , im new to boating finished restoring my BW montuak, took some navigation classes. Wondering if you can recommend a spot somewhere off Old Saybrook to fish but not to far from shore. Oh by the way yes i bought a bostn and i caint swim, lol
Hey John. Do you have to unhook your boga to get it out of that holder? Looks like the lanyard would have to go back up into the holder when using and then back down when returning to the holder.
John how does the drag feel on that Salt X? Now that I've seen you with some weight on it. I've seen video on some big tarpon reeled onto beaches but our fishery can be demanding on our gear with our different sediments in the water.
I prefer the bulk of my bend loaded in the top third to half way down. My rods that bend mostly throughout make me feel less secure in landing a big fish. Am I wrong?
John Skinner Fishing I’m gaining pointers from The Master. I always feel like it’s going to snap if I put on too much pressure bringing the fish in. Guess I should just have more confidence in my rods. Maybe I need a GSB
Hey John, just purchased the salt x 6000, do you recommend putting on the counterweights when you change it to bailess? I noticed it made it heavier. Thanks
I would like to hear how the frogg toggs hold up for you, I went thru three pairs of frogg toggs in 4 months last year. They leak in the crotch. Let us know if they make it thru the season
John, Both the hellbender and the anura waders. They both popped a seam in the crotch and seat area. I was fishing 5 days a week but they did not hold up. With the amount of fishing you do i will be surprised if they hold up.
I do a lot of wading ,both in rivers for salmon and from the shore.I also like felt and studs, but i,v yet to find any felt soles that stay attached to the boots for more than one season.I,v tried a lot of different brands. And i,v yet to find a glue that will stick them back on properly so i usually end up screwing some wood screws through them to keep them on.
1. Nobody else thinks there are fish in the rocks. 2. They DID, but over time they lost some much gear and tackle they gave up. You KNOW that's not easy to fish that way.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Let us know how they hold up down the road,For that price theyd be the equivalent of your Tsunami and we will all have a pair. Thanks for the reply and all the great content!

Setting a very fine example of good Bass handling John excellent video.

I'm an 11.5 sneaker, and the size 11 wader fit perfect.

Dropping knowledge, a true pioneer and always sharing helpful insight. Another good video, thanks!
3:15 cleanest release hands down

John when you’re finding new spots to do this kind of fishing are you looking on depth maps for deep water? What makes you want to cast in the spot you’re casting?
It takes a lot of time fishing the areas on different tides to see what produces. There's no easy way other than putting in time.
Your “small” stripers are bigger than my pb! Hopefully one day I will hook up on a large fish 🐟
That Plier holder looks like it is made for a left handed person based on the position on the lanyard holes.

Great video you make it look so easy have yet to land a striper off the surf

Hey John what do you think of the lamiglass super surf 2 g pro
Have not used it, but have always liked their GSB line.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing the rods are very similar the gsb just has a slightly softer action but i really like the super surf I like the grips

Mr skinner what part of Long Island are you fishing at? Me and my dad are trying at roslyn and glen cove and we’re not having any luck

No unhook. The lanyard drops down through the hole. It's a decent setup.
I kno you won't divulge the north shore videos location last year were you west of santorini?
John how does the drag feel on that Salt X? Now that I've seen you with some weight on it. I've seen video on some big tarpon reeled onto beaches but our fishery can be demanding on our gear with our different sediments in the water.
Very smooth, but I've kept it dry so far.
John can you tell me if those Frogg Toggs Hellbender Breathable Bootfoot Waders worked out for you ? did they wear good ?.Thanks...
They're good. I have both the bootfoot and stockingfoot. I really like their Pilot 3 jacket too.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing thanks John...
Most states have outlawed felt sole. Not sure how that applies to saltwater. But on Alaska felt can not be used any place.
6 states have banned them, 5 of those, including Alaska, are freshwater only bans.
Is that Long Beach in Smithtown?
No. Well east of there.
No worries with the handling over the fish. Catch n release n crushed barbs. 💥👍
I prefer the bulk of my bend loaded in the top third to half way down. My rods that bend mostly throughout make me feel less secure in landing a big fish. Am I wrong?
It's what you're used to I guess. I rather use the full rod.

Very nice video where are you filming from Boston?
Hey John, just purchased the salt x 6000, do you recommend putting on the counterweights when you change it to bailess? I noticed it made it heavier. Thanks
If they supplied a counter-weight (I can't remember), I'd definitely use it. The reel could be way off-balance without it.
John Skinner Fishing thank you for the fast reply!
Water looks great! Great tips John. Now your serious. Hate those rock snags. Morning tide?
You prefer green mono leader, why is that? I’ve had luck with it but usually use “regular” fluoro/mono.
Regular is fine. I fished green for many years with good success. It seems to blend with the water in my area.
seems nice place... where is the location
Hi , Mr. John skinner , do you see any albie in the north shore so far ?
Albies are sporadic from North Carolina to mass right now
None for me.
John Skinner Fishing quite late this year... hope start soon and see your albie video .
do some fish finder chunk videos
Very nice catches and releases! Was that 25-30 pounds at the end mixed with the schoolies?
Just over 30, yes, after the schoolies.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing the way it should happen, nice!
I would give a lot just to find out where that is, the general area would suffice. Awesome video as always John.
Long Island
north shore long iisland
It’s in Southold
Hey how long are your leaders?
around 40 inches
@@JohnSkinnerFishing ok thanks for replying, also 40” with swivel doesn’t get in the way when casting on a 9’ rod?
If you don't mind are you using a 2 piece or single piece GSB? Thanks
1-piece
Was hoping for a last day fluke video, cant believe the season is over.
Just like that, gone in a flash. No keepers from the shore this year for me! Hope we all get a good striper fall run. Tight lines. 🤘🏼
How are those waders in October and November when it's cold ?
They're fine, and I also wear them clamming in the winter with a pair of thin sweatpants over a pair of jeans.
John Skinner Fishing thanks a lot goodluck this year with the stripers
Felt bottoms are illegal in some states.
Hi John, forgive me if you've answer this question but what region are you in?
ny
I would like to hear how the frogg toggs hold up for you, I went thru three pairs of frogg toggs in 4 months last year. They leak in the crotch. Let us know if they make it thru the season
What model frogg toggs? So far so good with the Hellbenders, both boot and stockingfoot.
John,

67 step John?
I wish! Those steps are close to my house.
I know, I’m on 5th st.
What boots do I buy?
There should be a link in the video description. I've been wearing Frogg Toggs for years and am happy.
How much weight you think John ? Over 25lbs ?
It was slightly over 30.
Is that stony brook
Awesome work John!
I think u forget to put name lure or plug using and weight please
It's all in the video description.
O don’t see any even it’s not linked to jh site
It's a Ron Arra Strike Pro 2 3/4 ounce.
Have you found any albies yet this season? Also I caught my first striped bass recently.
Not on my side.
Maybe you can help me I'm looking for a good striped bass spot off the beach
Ty I caught 10 of them today thank you my brother
Anyone know any good spots to surf fish for bass and blue fish?
Cape Cod canal
I wonder where that rock is there is always a striper there
How is it you fish these spots and there’s no one else around
1. Nobody else thinks there are fish in the rocks.
2. They DID, but over time they lost some much gear and tackle they gave up. You KNOW that's not easy to fish that way.
Very nice fish
How can you be catching a striper every cast? Nice!
Hwhere are you fishing? What state
ny
John Skinner Fishing ahhhhh it all makes sense I’m in RI fishing in the bay has been slow.
How far are your cast?
You should watch more of his videos - many casts are 140-175+ feet. That's an 8 1/2 foot rod. Makes me wonder how far my casts are.
What section of Long Island are you fishing?
Freaking awesome I lose my mind on big schoolies from the surf lol
Good stuff
Frog Togg hip boots are the best quality I've ever owned.......Almost over kill but good because I walk threw brush and destroyed all my others!
Encouraging. I really like mine, so I hope they hold up.

Sorry I love your videos but just too much talking about the boots on your waders I had to eject on this one
Espetacular
