    David, you're a hard working man. Be proud of that, brother. I grew up just south of you. I miss eastern Washington terribly. Also, I'm glad that you both dipped your toe into the homeschooling pool. My wife and I are doing the same thing with our daughter and we'll never go back to public school. You and Kenzie keep up the good work. We need more people like you in this country.

    I have an old 4x4 f350 with a turbo idi and dump box that will hold 1 cord split and tossed in with sides built up. That one cord is plenty for the 8 foot box. I would go with the f450 at a minimum with a 10 foot box as well. Good luck with everything and that’s a beautiful backdrop to work in!

    Another awesome video. I cannot amagine splitting the amount of wood with splitting hammer that you do. I started out in 1973 with a LaFont 7hp1 knife, then to a 8hp 1knife Lickety 1knife 4second cycle time,then in 1985 i bought a Cord King 12 way & Case1845C skid steer with a LaFont grapple. still got them and i am " hobby" cuttin' around 100-125 cords a year.no more back ache!!

    3 cords of wood a day is pretty ambitious. I agree with the dump box on a F-550 or 450. Too bad that couldn't be a mini log truck and you could bring the logs to a landing at home and cut and split with a log splitter. Work is good, a lot of work is hard on the body in the long run.

    NL, Canada we can get a $25 domestic permits on crown land(government land) to cut what we like up to 5-13 cords, depending on area. It's all fair game but if you have to drive up a trail you didn't make to cut in a clearing, it's an unwritten rule that only one man can leave lol Not really but it's highly frowned upon. If you go in a trail you didn't cut and cut your own off that, that's fine. That's just how the paths expand. Also, we have extremely terrible ground for even skidders, sometimes.

    I admire just about everything on your videos. It was uplifting to hear that tribal game wardens are out hunting to supply healthy meat for a tribal member's funeral. And I admire the way you clean up the forest and put the dead stuff to good use. I have felled a few trees myself and the way you took down that hillside Fir, very professional, deliberate and measured. I still marvel that you are spitting with a simpe Fiskars axe. Astounding. I suppose there is a reason you don't use a splitting wedge so I would like to know more about that. By the way, I recently learned from workout specialist that wood spitting is an excellent way to keep fit and difficult to duplicate, even with sophisticated machines. You will stay healthy in body, soul and mind by doing this kind of work in the woods. Only wish I could join you for a few minutes. I fell, spit, and hauled fire wood as our only heat until I was 82 and miss it every day.

    David, try looking for an older farm truck with a hoist on it, that would get you through a couple summers of heavy cutting until you could get the ideal truck. I know exactly how you feel about pulling a trailer in the woods, I do it and it's a pain even with my small trailer.

  • @ToddAdams1234
    @ToddAdams1234 Год назад

    David, dull chains are hard on saws. To keep it from being quite so hard on your saw you’ll want to run the tune a little fatter to keep your cylinder and piston a little cooler so that they don’t overheat and melt. It’s the same scenario as when you are milling. BUT you could always run some semi-chisel chain. It doesn’t have the same effects on the saw as when a full-chisel chain gets a little dull. Just don’t expect it to cut as fast as a full-chisel when they are both sharp.

      It’s a tradition thing to have a dinner after the burial of a loved one… in our beliefs it’s the passed persons last meal to help them on their journey to the afterlife… so they send hunters out to get a couple deer or an elk.
