Ranch homes are usually one story which are good for older people who have a hard time getting up and down from the stairs
I am young and love them i can do more with it. My glass kitchen roof will never get old

My ranch was built almost exactly on a North - South and East - West orientation, lucky for me the front (long side) of the house faces due South. Great in the winter for optimal sunshine entering the rooms.

I have a Colorado ranch house built in 1962. The courtyard style back yard with detached garage is a big amenity. Low roof for ease of maintenace. Manageable yard size. Rooms could be bigger. Double beds were the norm then. Bathroom is small. Ladies used vanities then. Have seen many basements from the day finished with wet bars.
im Filipino and my favorite American style home is Cape Cod and Ranch stye homes.
I live in a ranch built in 1947. I like the layout,but think the outside looks like a box. I worked with nature as I have we added shrubs and trees. I really do love the house,but the yard makes it! The house is actually just a backdrop to nature!

Ranch style homes rule the northeast side of San Antonio. Especially in the area of Nacogodoches rd just outside loop 410 and 1604. Most of these ranchers started building in the early 1970 and concluded construction in the mid 1980's.

Another thing I can say that I appreciate,though not aesthetically is how solid it is. The studs are closer together and there are more of them. A lot more wood was used in my home. The brick and sandstone exterior are real. It is set on a granite foundation. It holds heat and air conditioning really well. It's sturdy. The closets are small. People didn't have as many clothes or linens etc. It's on septic,which saves hundreds of dollars a month. My water bill is 10 to 14 a month. It also has an attic fan which is glorious in spring and fall. While I am not crazy about the looks of the exterior,the practicality can't be beat! I have to edit periodically to fit the space. Over all,I have Fallen in love with it! Someone who visited my house and owned a loft,remarked. This makes me miss walls. Ranches are very private on the interior.

I know people will quibble over what the definition of a ranch home is, but the term has loosely been applied to any single-story home.

Real reason why ranch homes were so popular because so many of them were built right after world war II because they were cheap and fast to build guys coming home from the war were either getting married or had been married right before the war and looking to start families these are cheap affordable homes this is how the suburbs began once a style became extremely popular their children starting families in the sixties and seventies wanted to get a home just like their mother and their father and the next generation started building ranch homes also they remain popular for older people it's all one level no stairs unless of course it has a basement but you can have a ranch home with no stairs a lot of modern houses today want to put bedrooms upstairs this makes it more difficult for people over 70 years old to go up and down the stairs all the time sometimes you got bad knees or bad backs or a bad hip the ranch home is just more practical of course two story homes townhouses and things like that might be more popular where property is more expensive this way they can build a bigger home on a smaller lot but there really isn't a science towards it
For me as a person from central Europe- Poland the ranch house is one of the symbol of USA. I see it nearly in each american movie. Luckily we don't have this type in PL.
In my country popular are houses like a manor house. ( in google manor house in Poland)
Polish people were building houses like this throughout centuries. ( not always with good results)
They are only popular with old people
Why ranch houses we're so popular and still are for the most part you didn't even touch on it you didn't even stay any real reason....the number one reason is there the cheapest house to manufacture especially if you build them on a slab if you build a two-story home you're going to need a crane to get the roof trusses in place you're going to have twice as many floor joist because you have two floors now ranch homes we're fast to build and there was a lot of men coming back from world war II wanting to start families and needed a home
I heard him mention cheaper to build along with other reasons I and many others thing he did a GOOD JOB personally I’ve never lived in one always 2 story... I’ve heard it’s cheaper to heat a two story than a ranch !
Ranch homes are one story they're cheaper and more economical to build lumber is expensive having to build an entire second subfloor for the second story in a different style of home cost more money...... the difference is they require more land the footprint is larger on a ranch home but if you're building a subdivision and land is cheap ranch is the way to go for a property developer if you're building in a place where land is more expensive say southern California than the two or even a three-story home would be cheaper because the land costs so much
Check your facts...Brady Bunch takes place in a 2 story.
They are the cheapest and easier to build and faster and after ww2 people needed cheap homes fast
First time buyers do not want ranch homes. They want 2 stories, because they're moving from apartments and want to feel like they're in a "real" house, not another apartment. Also, ranch homes are NOT cheaper than 2 stories of equal square footage.
