This podcast has touched me deeply. It has whispered to my heart that I am not cast off. In the Gospel of John is told three stories that have occurred to me as representing the return of scattered Israel in the last days. The first is the woman accused of adultery, the second is the man born blind, and the third is Lazarus. Accept, if you will, my offering of three verses added to "Redeemer of Israel" I have known thee forever, my palms bare thy name Thou art lost and in darkness do roam Thine enemies bring thee to heap on me shame Still, I bid thee come back to my home With spittle and dust have I darkened thy sight There are none who know thou art my lamb Come wash in Siloam that thine eyes may be bright And the world will now know that I Am As hopeless, dry bones, in the valley have lain The whole world believes that thou art dead The wicked who watch as I call out thy name The great army of God shall they dread Forgive me if I am stepping over boundaries to share. I just want to express how deeply the words I have listened to have affected me this week. Thank you Brother Halverson, and I give thanks to God for the spirit touching me through what has been shared.
I like how he talks about images and idols in the church that President Nelson did away with like The Scouting program and the nickname Mormon ect.... don't get me wrong I love The Scouting program and I'm an eagle scout but apparently the program made people in the church lose sight of being a disciple of Christ. I love listening to brother Halverson because he touches on things that a lot of people don't talk about and brings them to light. He is such a great educator. He has not only book smarts but Street smarts as well.
I am so grateful that President Nelson seems to be shining a bright light in every corner ... including things like the old-timey pageants that the church has put on for so many decades. And going through the church handbook of instructions with a fine-toothed comb. Making sure that the church is following is doctrinal mandate vs. just following tradition ... regardless of how beloved or comfortable those traditions have become.
I experienced some of that losing sight. I remember car rides in vehicles driven by young men's leaders. Car rides where an aaronic priesthood holder in the passanger seat selected a radio channel with filthy music and kept it there through explicit songs rife with sexuality. And the justification? "Boys will be boys"
You have a rare 🎁of speach not only do you have the ability to teach from both perspectives of rationalization of the mind & ❤️, ambivalence in nature. Your right to say don't over look the good for some evil moments of pride. As a man who, in today's world, would have been a candidate for abortion and was adopted by a marvelous LDS family, and the father of an adopted son who was a candidate for abortion, and the grandfather of a grandson who was a candidate for abortion, I think my feelings on it are self-obvious. I appreciate your discussion about hoping that the pro-life community will be as concerned about those new lives that will be born as a result of this decision. Thank you for all the work that goes into these discussions. I am only sorry that I only 'stumbled' on them about three months ago. They are a great addition to our family study as well as helping us in our teaching of CTR 8 in Primary.

This is a masterful effort that helps us understand the scattering of Israel. We need that understanding on two levels or fronts. First, we need to exercise our faith more perfectly. Such as, being perfect in our genealogical work while simultaneously attending the Temple rather that commenting how others will do the work, thus causing each of us to slide down the slippery slope of falling away. The second front is our responsibility to GATHER ISRAEL. We will have the opportunity to restore hope and faith by duplicating the efforts of Jared Halverson at our own ground-level situation and circumstances. 🌏❤️‼️

It's ingenious how Brother Halverson unravels and brings to present-day application what has otherwise been a labor of thankless pick-up of boring facts to me!

1:56:06 Isn't this what we have done with christmas? We decorate a tree with gold and silver, we spend thousands on gifts from Santa, and then lie to our children about this fake guy who comes to bring us gifts, we ignore that God who actually gives the good gift of eternal life. We give Christ 5 minutes the night before by reading a few verses about his birth, but then spend months "worshiping" Santa, and a tree (Jeremiah 10:2-4) as we plan out and shop and save and sacrifice for the fake version of the gift giver. It is just a cute tradition nothing wrong here, all is well. We need to do better, cast down our false gods, Santa, easter bunny, new car, TV, phones, tablets, ect, and we need to worship the true and living God if we want a Zion in which to dwell with God himself. I was caught up in it all, but last year when I utterly refused to celebrate Santa, I told my kids the truth, and we focused on Christ. Well if you ask my little kids about it, they will tell you, that we did it for Christ. They were still happy, we still give gifts, but we focus on the gifts that christ gave, and the result, the Spirit was glorious. Still have a lot to do, but I think we need to be active in our efforts.

Hi Jared, first time commenter here, but long time follower. We really enjoy your teaching and explanations. Thank you. An idea I had to suggest the thought of adding an occasional date with the stories and what is happening. I know it would help me see better the bigger picture and it might just help others also. I know there is not a lot of dates out there, but even general dates could help build and connect the whole picture.
Great suggestion to already perfect lessons . I am a believer in understanding dates . I know memorized dates are old fashioned but I believe it helps put the entire history of the world into perspective .
Just thinking - I can't help but wonder what would have happened had Hezekiah submitted to the Lord and accepted the prophecy of his death. No showcasing the riches of Judah to the Babylonians, no birth or horrible reign of Manasseh, no execution of the Prophet Isaiah, no 2 Kings 23:26-27, etc. What good came out of the extra 15 years? Was this another Zeniff and a case of overzealousness? Was it another 116 pages situation? What advice would Joseph Smith have given him? "When the Lord commands, do it"? Interested in your take.

I also came to realize that I cannot support abortion, even in the EXTREMELY RARE (accounting for less than .6% of all abortions) cases of rape or incest and claim to believe in due process.
Thank you for addressing the sins of this generation. Especially Child Sacrifice. Thank you for addressing the sensitive topic of Abortion. While us Christians should rejoice in the victory that the power of this heavy decision has been brought back to the Individual States, in accordance with the Laws of the Land, namely The United States Constitution, I understand that there are still options for rare and carefully studied circumstances. I am grateful for your mention that a Couple or Individual must turn to the Lord for direction for their specific needs & circumstances, and make the best course of action, since we are dealing with multiple human lives- Mother and child/ children (in the case of two or more). Along with this subject, I believe those who choose to sacrifice their child's Spiritual wellbeing for the popularity of the World, namely pressures for Children to undergo a Sex change, simply because it was suggested by someone outside of the home is wrong. Instead, Parents can reiterate the message found in the Proclamation to the Family and also look at possible ways they can help support the child's natural hormones, especially in the years of Childhood and Teen, and encourage healthy nutritious eating. Also, seeing a specialist who can help nourish their child or teen's natural hormones. Perhaps find a Specialist that a-lines with the values as taught by the Lord, through the Lord's Prophets and Apostles. Most importantly, direct the Child to continue to Read Scriptures, read topics under the Gospel Library App and ask Why they feel like they feel the way they do. Perhaps the answer is as simple as trying to fit in. I'm not saying there aren't those who actually struggle, but sometimes I think whenever something becomes known, we suddenly think we must have the "same" problem. It's like when mental health awareness first came out and those who Actually had issues were seeing others "suddenly" having Mental health problems. Yes there are those who Do need help and Should get help. However, perhaps what the majority of what All of us need, no matter where we live, are reminders that we are still important as a Child of God, to our Heavenly Parents, Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother.
And there's another point. Leftists like to argue that because we oppose abortion, we should be in favor of things like Government- funded healthcare and welfare programs. Every American is welcome to donate THEIR time and money however and wherever they choose. Conservatives frequently donate to charities. However, we reject Government- funded programs. It's good to love thy neighbor and to show charity toward thy neighbor. But the Government has no right to compel me.
The stats prove that looking to the government takes away charitable giving . I don’t want to be political but if you research the biggest names pushing for government programs without exception they give nothing to very little to charity in their personal lives . They will give to “foundations “ to build legacies to themselves but that is it . I always find it that interesting . Also conservative states give more to charity on average over “blue “ states . To look to government for everything takes away charity from the giver which is sad .
In terms of child sacrifice, I just think of the parents who are getting their children hormone blockers and sex change surgery in the name of the god of woke-ism. It's tragic :(
The old testament gospel is filled with anger, cruelty, and people and entire cities being removed as a consequence of wickedness. The new testament gospel of Jesus Christ is a gospel of love and forgiveness. Some have suggested the change is because Christ experienced mortal life and softened his heart. Any thoughts?
Honestly, because of watching Unshaken every week, that is no longer my impression of the Old Testament. And Christ wasn't just light and sweetness in the New Testament. He was a good balance in both testaments ... as well as all other books of scripture in our canon. One thing that I've learned to appreciate from watching more than a year of Unshaken is that Jesus Christ embodies the 'contraries' of being the Lamb of God and the Lion of Judah at the same time. He can be meek and mild when it's appropriate but there are also many references, throughout the scriptures, of Him embodying that lion as well. One of my favorite Unshaken lesson was (I believe) D&C 138 when he talked about how and why the victims of Noah's Flood are the poster children of the missionary work in the spirit world and the temple work for the dead. It all comes down to what the actual purpose of life is ... and the fact that God's purpose is to save His children and His is willing to use as many different ways and means as it takes to try and get through to them.
Honestly I think that part of the confusion comes from the differing concepts of: 1) We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. And: 2) Moses 1:39 For behold, this is my work and my glory-to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is *not* in the scriptures but rather it was written by Thomas Jefferson in the United States' Declaration of Independence. It is arguably good and important but it does not supercede that God's work and glory is immortality and eternal life. I think that sometimes, especially among Americans, it's kind of easy to confuse the two concepts and which one is *actually* the purpose of life. Sometimes God needs to 'bring His children home' in a manner that might seem to run contrary to Thomas Jefferson's views, in order to help give us the best possible shot at eternal life.
Life, liberty and property is what Jefferson actually wrote. I believe it coincides with the Abrahamic covenant of Posterity, Priesthood and Land inheritance.
Be careful with the logic on abortion exceptions. If abortion is murder, which it is, it doesn't matter if the baby was made through rape or incest. Life is life. Rape or incest should never be an exception.
The part you are referring to starts at about 1 hr 1 min. In case anyone is wondering. Bro. Halverson refers to a Gen. Conference talk by Elder Oaks on the topic of Abortion where the sanctity of life is reaffirmed. The possible exceptions mentioned (including rape, incest, and the mothers life in danger) seem to me to be POSSIBLE, but rare and subject to divine inspiration. Elder Oaks' comments would be a statement of official Church Policy and to exclude any and all possible scenarios with a definitive hard line "never under ANY circumstances," would probably not be wise. I personally can't think of many specific situation where an abortion is the ONLY option other than to save the life of the mother and the baby is likely not to survive anyway, but I don't consider myself smart enough to be able to confidently say there is NOTHING I didn't think of ahead of time that could EVER happen where an exception might actually be appropriate. These rare situations are sensitive, deeply personal and probably devastating choices that hopefully very few of us ever have to face together with Priesthood council and leadership as well as the inspiration, direction and revelation needed from God the Father Himself and that window needs to be left open in Church policy just in case there really is some very specific circumstance out there where an exception to the rule actually is appropriate and acceptable to an omniscient God. I pray you nor I, nor anyone we love ever has to be one to wrestle with whatever horrific situation could ever cause an exception to even be considered. No matter the outcome of that situation and decision, there is sure to be devastating heartache. I think the biggest point we should take home from that section of this video, is a realization that we need to be fully committed to our support of life. Which requires assisting and supporting and aiding the difficult situations that are sure to increase (thank heaven) with more unwanted children surviving their gestation to birth. Whatever we need to do to foster, adopt, donate time and money to programs and trainings to support single mothers and families in poverty, let's step up and continue to be pro-LIFE after birth as much as we are pro-LIFE prior to birth. We need to choose to live a zion mentality for this (the overturning of Roe) to be a full victory! Let's do this!
I think that his entire point is the "proving of contraries" ... in this case I would say that it's the contrary of the 'sanctity of life' on the one hand ... and the 'compassion to the woman going through so many potentially incredibly, difficult things' on the other hand. I love the fact that he is so careful to talk about proving contraries, justice v. mercy, love v. law, chastity v. charity ... etc. It is overwhelmingly important to not go too far to either extreme, but to maintain a careful balance. The church leadership is riding this careful balance for an incredibly good reason.
I don't consider the overturning of Roe versus Wade a victory. I consider it the taking away of a woman's rights. Do you know how scared some women are right now?

Or that this is a precident that they fear will lead to other rights being taken away in the future? Also: Do you feel that Roe vs Wade was a Constitutionally sound decision and should have stayed in place?

1:56:06 Isn't this what we have done with christmas? We decorate a tree with gold and silver, we spend thousands on gifts from Santa, and then lie to our children about this fake guy who comes to bring us gifts, we ignore that God who actually gives the good gift of eternal life. We give Christ 5 minutes the night before by reading a few verses about his birth, but then spend months "worshiping" Santa, and a tree (Jeremiah 10:2-4) as we plan out and shop and save and sacrifice for the fake version of the gift giver. It is just a cute tradition nothing wrong here, all is well. We need to do better, cast down our false gods, Santa, easter bunny, new car, TV, phones, tablets, ect, and we need to worship the true and living God if we want a Zion in which to dwell with God himself. I was caught up in it all, but last year when I utterly refused to celebrate Santa, I told my kids the truth, and we focused on Christ. Well if you ask my little kids about it, they will tell you, that we did it for Christ. They were still happy, we still give gifts, but we focus on the gifts that christ gave, and the result, the Spirit was glorious. Still have a lot to do, but I think we need to be active in our efforts.

I wanted to name my son Hezekiah or Josiah because I love their stories but my older kids vetoed those choices from the list of possibilities. I forgot about it until this week's study. 😂 The kids do agree that they sound like great men but still think I'm crazy for liking the names.
Hi Jared, first time commenter here, but long time follower. We really enjoy your teaching and explanations. Thank you. An idea I had to suggest the thought of adding an occasional date with the stories and what is happening. I know it would help me see better the bigger picture and it might just help others also. I know there is not a lot of dates out there, but even general dates could help build and connect the whole picture.
Great suggestion to already perfect lessons . I am a believer in understanding dates . I know memorized dates are old fashioned but I believe it helps put the entire history of the world into perspective .
Just thinking - I can't help but wonder what would have happened had Hezekiah submitted to the Lord and accepted the prophecy of his death. No showcasing the riches of Judah to the Babylonians, no birth or horrible reign of Manasseh, no execution of the Prophet Isaiah, no 2 Kings 23:26-27, etc. What good came out of the extra 15 years? Was this another Zeniff and a case of overzealousness? Was it another 116 pages situation? What advice would Joseph Smith have given him? "When the Lord commands, do it"? Interested in your take.
Where do Zenos, Zenock, and Neum fit into the Old Testament? Could they have been among the prophets that Jezebel/Ahab killed?

While us Christians should rejoice in the victory that the power of this heavy decision has been brought back to the Individual States, in accordance with the Laws of the Land, namely The United States Constitution, I understand that there are still options for rare and carefully studied circumstances. I am grateful for your mention that a Couple or Individual must turn to the Lord for direction for their specific needs & circumstances, and make the best course of action, since we are dealing with multiple human lives- Mother and child/ children (in the case of two or more).
Along with this subject, I believe those who choose to sacrifice their child's Spiritual wellbeing for the popularity of the World, namely pressures for Children to undergo a Sex change, simply because it was suggested by someone outside of the home is wrong. Instead, Parents can reiterate the message found in the Proclamation to the Family and also look at possible ways they can help support the child's natural hormones, especially in the years of Childhood and Teen, and encourage healthy nutritious eating. Also, seeing a specialist who can help nourish their child or teen's natural hormones. Perhaps find a Specialist that a-lines with the values as taught by the Lord, through the Lord's Prophets and Apostles.
Most importantly, direct the Child to continue to Read Scriptures, read topics under the Gospel Library App and ask Why they feel like they feel the way they do. Perhaps the answer is as simple as trying to fit in.
I'm not saying there aren't those who actually struggle, but sometimes I think whenever something becomes known, we suddenly think we must have the "same" problem. It's like when mental health awareness first came out and those who Actually had issues were seeing others "suddenly" having Mental health problems. Yes there are those who Do need help and Should get help.
However, perhaps what the majority of what All of us need, no matter where we live, are reminders that we are still important as a Child of God, to our Heavenly Parents, Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother.
And there's another point. Leftists like to argue that because we oppose abortion, we should be in favor of things like Government- funded healthcare and welfare programs. Every American is welcome to donate THEIR time and money however and wherever they choose. Conservatives frequently donate to charities. However, we reject Government- funded programs. It's good to love thy neighbor and to show charity toward thy neighbor. But the Government has no right to compel me.
The stats prove that looking to the government takes away charitable giving . I don’t want to be political but if you research the biggest names pushing for government programs without exception they give nothing to very little to charity in their personal lives . They will give to “foundations “ to build legacies to themselves but that is it . I always find it that interesting . Also conservative states give more to charity on average over “blue “ states . To look to government for everything takes away charity from the giver which is sad .

The old testament gospel is filled with anger, cruelty, and people and entire cities being removed as a consequence of wickedness. The new testament gospel of Jesus Christ is a gospel of love and forgiveness. Some have suggested the change is because Christ experienced mortal life and softened his heart. Any thoughts?
Honestly, because of watching Unshaken every week, that is no longer my impression of the Old Testament. And Christ wasn't just light and sweetness in the New Testament. He was a good balance in both testaments ... as well as all other books of scripture in our canon.
One thing that I've learned to appreciate from watching more than a year of Unshaken is that Jesus Christ embodies the 'contraries' of being the Lamb of God and the Lion of Judah at the same time. He can be meek and mild when it's appropriate but there are also many references, throughout the scriptures, of Him embodying that lion as well.
One of my favorite Unshaken lesson was (I believe) D&C 138 when he talked about how and why the victims of Noah's Flood are the poster children of the missionary work in the spirit world and the temple work for the dead. It all comes down to what the actual purpose of life is ... and the fact that God's purpose is to save His children and His is willing to use as many different ways and means as it takes to try and get through to them.
Honestly I think that part of the confusion comes from the differing concepts of:
1) We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
And:
2) Moses 1:39 For behold, this is my work and my glory-to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.
Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is *not* in the scriptures but rather it was written by Thomas Jefferson in the United States' Declaration of Independence. It is arguably good and important but it does not supercede that God's work and glory is immortality and eternal life.
I think that sometimes, especially among Americans, it's kind of easy to confuse the two concepts and which one is *actually* the purpose of life. Sometimes God needs to 'bring His children home' in a manner that might seem to run contrary to Thomas Jefferson's views, in order to help give us the best possible shot at eternal life.
Life, liberty and property is what Jefferson actually wrote. I believe it coincides with the Abrahamic covenant of Posterity, Priesthood and Land inheritance.

Be careful with the logic on abortion exceptions. If abortion is murder, which it is, it doesn't matter if the baby was made through rape or incest. Life is life. Rape or incest should never be an exception.
The part you are referring to starts at about 1 hr 1 min. In case anyone is wondering. Bro. Halverson refers to a Gen. Conference talk by Elder Oaks on the topic of Abortion where the sanctity of life is reaffirmed. The possible exceptions mentioned (including rape, incest, and the mothers life in danger) seem to me to be POSSIBLE, but rare and subject to divine inspiration. Elder Oaks' comments would be a statement of official Church Policy and to exclude any and all possible scenarios with a definitive hard line "never under ANY circumstances," would probably not be wise.
I personally can't think of many specific situation where an abortion is the ONLY option other than to save the life of the mother and the baby is likely not to survive anyway, but I don't consider myself smart enough to be able to confidently say there is NOTHING I didn't think of ahead of time that could EVER happen where an exception might actually be appropriate. These rare situations are sensitive, deeply personal and probably devastating choices that hopefully very few of us ever have to face together with Priesthood council and leadership as well as the inspiration, direction and revelation needed from God the Father Himself and that window needs to be left open in Church policy just in case there really is some very specific circumstance out there where an exception to the rule actually is appropriate and acceptable to an omniscient God. I pray you nor I, nor anyone we love ever has to be one to wrestle with whatever horrific situation could ever cause an exception to even be considered. No matter the outcome of that situation and decision, there is sure to be devastating heartache.
I think the biggest point we should take home from that section of this video, is a realization that we need to be fully committed to our support of life. Which requires assisting and supporting and aiding the difficult situations that are sure to increase (thank heaven) with more unwanted children surviving their gestation to birth. Whatever we need to do to foster, adopt, donate time and money to programs and trainings to support single mothers and families in poverty, let's step up and continue to be pro-LIFE after birth as much as we are pro-LIFE prior to birth. We need to choose to live a zion mentality for this (the overturning of Roe) to be a full victory! Let's do this!

I think that his entire point is the "proving of contraries" ... in this case I would say that it's the contrary of the 'sanctity of life' on the one hand ... and the 'compassion to the woman going through so many potentially incredibly, difficult things' on the other hand.
I love the fact that he is so careful to talk about proving contraries, justice v. mercy, love v. law, chastity v. charity ... etc. It is overwhelmingly important to not go too far to either extreme, but to maintain a careful balance.
The church leadership is riding this careful balance for an incredibly good reason.
I don't consider the overturning of Roe versus Wade a victory. I consider it the taking away of a woman's rights. Do you know how scared some women are right now?

I don't want to put out a long reply full of information you already know or that isn't relative to what actually concerns you, so first, may I ask for some clarifications? Your comment implies to me that these many woman are scared right now that their rights are being taken from them. Are these specific rights tied to Roe vs Wade that they are scared of loosing? Or that this is a precident that they fear will lead to other rights being taken away in the future?
Also: Do you feel that Roe vs Wade was a Constitutionally sound decision and should have stayed in place?
