Thank you, thank you!! I was having a hard time being inspired by Job and teach a Sunday Shool lesson on this scripture passage. Now I have more information than I need, and have been touched by the Spirit to choose certain topics that are important for my Ward! How precious this is, a gift from God!
Sometimes I have considered how ignorant and ill prepared in so many ways we are to manage ourselves as parents. And I wonder at God's willingness to entrust us to parent his beloved spirit offspring. When I consider that a conscientious parent would not deliberately give in to the care and keeping of a small impetuous child any of their most fragile keepsakes knowing full well they are not prepared to be responsible, it occurs to me that the significant reason God is willing and able to submit his children to imperfect conditions that may bruise and batter and break them is because God has total confidence that those bruises and batterings and brokenness can be fixed completely by his power and wisdom. God charges us to train up our children in the way that they should go and we, as we attempt to fulfill that commandment, are trained up in the way we should go. The world would have us believe in a level of self-esteem that insists that we are enough just as we are. But heaven would have us understand that we are not enough on our own and that is why we need a Savior, even Jesus Christ the Messiah. SELF-ESTEEM is given of the world. SELF-WORTH is given of God.
Beautifully spoken. Hopefully we learn something with each generation if we are lucky enough to have goodly parents who taught us with patience, kindness and compassion without us gaining entitlement and narcissism along the way. Humility is key. Glad to see that I’m not the only one who has struggled with Parenthood, so grateful for love and forgiveness and the atonement that overcomes all human frailty.
Oh Jared I have been trying to understand the story of Job for a long while. Thank you for sharing this knowledge of your understanding. Your words are a joy I I hold it precious in my heart Just like a beautiful painting God has certainly blessed you with an artful oration that lifts my mind and my heart to greater height. I treasure your diligence and sacrifice. 🇦🇺♥️Johanna Martin
I have learned so much , I am truly grateful to Almighty God to grace me with His Words and someone to break it down for my understanding. Remarkably the Love of Christ for His children. Thank you!
Brother Halverson, thank you for the time, the study, and preparation you put into each week. I gain insights that I have never thought of in my 55 years. I appreciate the loving spirit you teach with. I feel the Spirit strongly in your lessons. My week isn’t complete without spending time with you. Thank you
Thank you for this lesson... and the lessons each week. I'm thankful to our Father and to you for more and more of my questions being answered along the way. God bless us all!
Thank you once again. You will never be through teaching not for a long time. You would make an wonderful Mission President . What a blessing you would be to all missionaries to help them through their challenges. Just saying you are wonderful and helped me love the Old Testament and have more understanding.
In an effort to school and remind myself how good God is I decided years ago to nurture a particular response when people politely sweetly ask me how I'm doing. " I AM BLESSED!" And when they curiously inquire for further details, I add with a smile, "I am blessed with challenges and through Christ Jesus blessed with hope!" Life is meant to be challenging so that we grow. And the more we complain about that plan, the harder it is. We are all fellow sufferers at some point and to some degree on the mortal continuum.
This weeks lesson was absolutely incredible! I read through Job on Monday and Tuesday by myself for the first time in depth and really didn’t get much out of it other than it was a bunch of rambling from five different people. After listening to your wonderful description of the message, and re-reading the book, I have come to absolutely love the message that it was really trying to share that I missed the first time. Thank you so much for your in-depth analysis and all of your time spent studying. I will say one thing… I feel it is important to mention that God does indeed bless people who do his will, as everyone was arguing in this book; the key is that that I did miss his the important word eventually. In the end, God will make all right and the righteous will prosper and the wicked will suffer or repent and prosper. Too often we miss that important detail as we talk about the idea of prosperity gospel.
Brother Halverson, I was sobbing by the end of your lesson. Thank you for helping me enter sacred space and feel the pain of Christ a sinless God taking upon him in a personal sacred way all our individual sins , so we can be purified . You have a gift . The Holy Ghost has given you incredible insights that we all benefit from . My you be blessed in your efforts to help all of us understand the gospel on a deeper level .Sharon Howard
This lesson was masterful. I wish everyone could hear it, particularly your concluding remarks. I have sent it to several friends who suffer with these same questions about God. I’m grateful for the way you have guided us through the sacred space of God’s mind and heart, in a way that requires and motivates us to employ faith, and above all, reach for a relationship with Him. Your words were absolutely sublime. Thank you.
I’m so blessed to have read this chapters with you. I’ve learned more through your eyes and teachings than I could have learned alone. Thank you for being a magnificent disciple of our Savior Jesus Christ.
If l could ask for a wish, it would be that I can memorize this lesson and know ir by heart. This lesson came at the perfect time as l have felt like Job. Thank you for your wisdom interpreting the scriptures and teaching us. Thank you for sharing your gift with us. God is wonderful !
I began in my early years of Seminary to collect instructive quotes, stories, poems, scriptures. This class brought to mind a quote by one Edward Judson: "Success and suffering are vitally and organically linked. If you succeed without suffering, it is because someone suffered for you; if you suffer without succeeding, it is in order that someone else may succeed after you.” When I look around and see so much unfair innocent suffering I can't help but think that those individuals are more advanced spirits and that they said much like our Savior did, "Here am I. Send me." And thereby the rest of us might learn from their suffering.
I love that quote! When I was on my mission in Switzerland 45 years ago every little success I would have I knew came from some 100 other missionaries in my mission contributing their unsuccessful efforts to that day and I reaped the reward this time. Like wise I knew the many hours I spent walking the streets talking to people and knocking on doors was consecrated to the success of another faithful missionary. I loved my mission with all its difficulties and hardships, it was a beautiful time in my life I will never regret, it’s blessed me in so many ways.
@@sallyfarb6151 oh! Sister Farb! I am so curious now to find out if we have friends or acquaintances or associations in common. Do you know any families by the last name of Amacher or Kunzli (temple workers from Interlochen) or Wagner (former missionary to Bern) . And I'm guessing that you knew President Percy and Sister Thelma Fetzer in Zollinkoffen. I lived with relatives in US military in southern Germany from October of '77 to the summer of 1979 and made trips to Switzerland and gained close friends all of whom came to the United States in the years to follow. Love this!!! As sometimes I’m hoping my pass along cards will work and apparently it will !!! So exciting to read these replies and comments! P.S. The People were always grateful for the pass along cards especially college age from my experience. It was very interesting.
Heartfelt thanks Brother Halverson, for your wise insights and helping me to understand why I have trials that I need to go through and how to equip myself. Tuning into you is like coming round to an old friend for advice, which is much needed at the moment.
I liked what you said about Job missing the opportunity to serve and that service can be used to recover those that seem lost. I have learned that those who may not be interested in coming to church many times are more than happy to participate in a meaningful service project or they would gladly help you out personally if asked.
Dear Br Halverson you will never reach a place where you stop teaching! You couldn’t stop even if you felt too feeble or lost your ability to recall everything like you do. Somehow the Lord would empower and magnify you to be able to still reach his sheep who.need your voice … and that is everyone living now. You are the master teacher for our time. The Holy Ghost feeds my soul through your words every single day. What a blessing you are to so many. You know you will be teaching in our next life too don’t you ?😇 With much love and gratitude, a fellow sojourner ( SLC ).
This was a difficult and triggering lesson for me as I'm grieving the loss of a family member. Thank you for addressing hard things and ending with those 4 truths about God. As you've said before, work from what you do know; trust that God loves you and has a plan what you don't understand. Thank you for your weekly insights- my life is enriched and my understanding of the gospel is fuller!
I feel your pain, this past year I have lost a step mother, my husband to cancer, and most recently my 97 year old mother. Now two of my adult sons are having difficulty and one has shut the other off for a test period of 2 years to see if the relationship improves. The cast away son was defensive in the beginning then deeply hurt and now becoming bitter. I don’t understand why the first son won’t come together with a mediator to resolve the issue. Sometimes I am swallowed up in grief and tears just don’t stop but I’m doing my best to recognize my still abundance of blessings and the goodness of God for I am not yet as Job.
Brother Jared….your lessons have given me the faith, and courage to want to be a mountain climber with the Lord. My testimony and faith have been strengthened through your faithful dedication to teach the truth. Once again, Thank you for your faith, and amazing gifted teaching….😇❤️. David
Thank you, Brother Jared (a present-day Brother Job) for teaching us how to see humanity and ourselves through God's all-seeing apple of his eye! Such gems of truth to help us navigate our lives, face our challenges and through them prepare to meet our Creator and report face to face!
Thank you for simplified the lesson. I feel that we are like Job building personal relationships with God; unlike the previous ones with the nation of Israel. I am so grateful for adversities in my life as l learn a lot during those trials.
Just what I needed. Both part one and two were fabulously full of instruction. I remember Elder Maxwell, and I’m paraphrasing, mentioned that when he went through his cancer treatments he had to be true to all his past council. Nothing like having to live the event or experience you have advised others to endure. As an RS president I have tried to encourage others to press forward and many things I have endured so I can safely say I have walked in their shoes. But other times I am speechless as to how to comfort so as you said, listening is the best. Total submission really calls us out on our level of faith and knowledge of His character. Thank you!!!!!
I am blessed by your insights..I gain much from all you share..as I have said for yours.. "Life is Good and I am Blessed"..I haven't escaped the trauma of health issues or etc..but I can say with all honesty and a heart filled with gratitude..."life is good and I am blessed"... Brother Halverson brings to life and teaches truths in his lessons as the Holy Ghost directs him. Not seen by the followers of his lessons are his fervent prayers of supplication as he petitions the Father on behalf of His Son to bring understanding and hope to many people seeking truth before he presents his lessons. For his true desire is the welfare and concerns of those throughout the world, that they might find hope and happiness in the WORD of God.
From the pre-existance I don't believe I wanted to live a life that's "enough". I want deep wisdom and understanding and a higher relationship with my Heavenly Father and through a lifetime of struggles I have gotten what I wanted. I have been strengthened through the challenges of My Life and overcoming them. I do not want to swim in shallow Waters and I want to run as fast as I can. Your videos help me to do that!
I love this lesson, however i found that notwithstanding all the wisdom and knowledge you have shared i felt there was more insight that was overlooked. So i reread Job and what a treasure trove of knowledge is packed in this book. I would encourage everyone to read it again. Insight 1. No one is certain of Gods workings amoung men. 2. God is all powerful and wise 3. Its best we do not judge
Your life and work are a continuing blessing to me personally, and those over whom I have influence and stewardship. You do remain in my prayers of gratitude and I do pray it will be well with both you and me and the things we hold dear. God Speed! God bless you.
You have shown God's love better than I've ever seen it in the old testaments. I still have many questions and I still see God's wrath in many things I see unjust punishment in many chapters I see hatred. But before that was all I saw now I see love even if I don't have an understanding of God in many things. I love to keep learning. So keep going brother Halverson.
Unshaken You are a man - that teaches the word of THE MAN every step of the way who is going around taking names everybody will be treated the same when THE MAN comes around - Thank you for your wonderful lesson.
Thank you Jared for another great lesson this week I really enjoyed watching your lesson I learned on Job. Have great week May Lord continue blessing you & family. Gracias 👍
I was so moved by this week's block and your exploration of the book of Job that I found myself on my knees praying to be more like Job. ⁉ What is WRONG with me!? 😂
The trials we go through give us the opportunity to come to know God in ways we would not otherwise. Not to mention gaining empathy for others who suffer. Possibly God also doubled Job's life span?
I've been LDS my whole adult life, joining the church at 21 yo.. In the 1000s of talks I've listened to I have heard few that are as arrogant as you. "I don't want mercy but want justice" Every man has sinned and NEEDS the mercies of God. Including you.
The one who thanked then was healed in his heart. That's the key, the others were healed physically. Perhaps their afflictions will return or continue until they, too, will learn the healing power of gratitude and Christ's grace.
God wants us to trust Him. Thus we don't often get His explanations, this life is a test of our faith and trust in God. We will one day understand the why's.
I wish it were possible to like certain parts of a video. It would be interesting to see what parts hit home the most. In the end I guess it doesn't matter, just for curious sake. I feel Job's anguish. I have been in places so low for so long, but I do know God is good, and I do know he is good. I don't understand his ways, but I believe His purposes are ultimately for good.
Thank you for bringing this book to life in modern English! Job is wrestling with such important questions about the himan condition that apply to us all. It seems that the book is a extended illustration of what Paul is teaching about the kaw being dead and by it we are not justified. None of us live the law perfectly, and even if we were (as Job was), we would still be lacking. We would still be subject to the himan condition, and still in need of mercy, redemption, and knowledge of God. Also, I wonder about the events of the book from the perspective of Job's family. His wife's journey we see a bit, but what about his children that died?
It might also be that Job understands that he could have all the faith in the world and trust the Lord with all his heart, yet be uncertain as to the will of Him and His timing. I have had spots in my life where I believe I have the faith and trust the Lord, yet the full fulfillment of His promises hasn’t happened for years and decades and I begin to doubt…sometimes I’m weak and doubt God remembers me; most times, though, I doubt myself and think, “Maybe I misunderstood Him and/or His promises…it wouldn’t be the first time I was wrong.” So I doubt. And there’s other times where I’m certain of my faith and works and His promises and His will and timing are what is murky. Maybe Job was feeling that as well. It’s difficult to describe how one can have faith in the Lord and at the same time be weak and doubt His timing and His will yet be trusting that it will eventually happen. I do know one thing for sure - sometimes (where I’m doubting His promises and/or His direction - because it seems to be taking so long for their fulfillment), He will allow friends and family to attack me and my clinging to His direction (like they attacked Job) and as I defend what I believe His direction for me has been, I remember again how it felt the first time the spirit gave me that direction and having to defend what He told me helps me to remember and solidify that truth (at least until I am weak again and start to doubt). 😅
Thank you for reminding us that we don't understand All things, but that we can be reminded as Job did that: "For My Thoughts are not your thoughts, Neither are your ways My Ways, saith the Lord. “For as the Heavens are higher than the Earth, so are My Ways Higher than your ways, and My Thoughts than your thoughts." - Isaiah 55:8-9. Thank you for pointing out that in many cases the words of Job's friends would be correct! Throughout this video, I have thought about the phrase, "Lord, is it I?" Do I have blind spots that I cannot yet see? Am I helping those around me, including taking initiative?! Also I appreciate the reminder that just because we haven't fallen as far from Grace as others doesn't mean they we should do it too. Not only would we be Mocking Jesus Christ's Atonement by rebelling knowingly, but we'd be deliberately choosing to Fall and go into forbidden Paths. Instead, I like the idea of setting God on a Higher Pedestal, while abasing (humbling) ourselves. And yes, many times I have felt like drifting through my life, knowing many of the logistical answers to the Gospel and the things written in my Patriarchal Blessing. But I will admit, like you mentioned Elder Maxwell (?) saying, "At times, it's hard to see what All the shouting was about." 😏😉 One last thing I wanted to thank you about (hadn't crossed my mind until you mentioned it) was Job's Family. I too wondered why the size of his Family members weren't doubled. But when you explained about the Eternal perspective, I realized, as you have, that his Family on Earth And those who had passed on would be with him throughout the Eternities. 👨👩👧👦❤️💒✝️🕊️🙏 Thank you for sharing these treasures!
But God DOES answer Job! Not directly... but by giving him the Endowment of knowledge, Job would understand WHY he suffered. Just as we can understand.
@Jared Halverson, Could Elihu represent the deceiver, Satan? There’s an article in The Interpreter “Job: An LDS Reading” “As the reader has likely surmised, I see Elihu as a figure for Satan, much like the serpent in the Garden of Eden. This idea was first proposed by David Noel Freedman: I believe that Elihu - who comes from nowhere and disappears from the scene as soon as he is done with his speeches - is not a real person at all. Like the other participants, he has a name and a profession, but it is a disguise … He is the person assumed or adopted by Satan to press his case for the last time. In my view, Elihu’s otherworldly nature is also indicated by the prose introduction at his arrival. Seeing Elihu as Satan explains Elihu’s extreme anger (at losing the battle for Job’s soul to God), his pride, his absence from the Epilogue (on the other side of the veil where Job has overcome all evil),”
In Talking Scripture they also suggest Elihu as an accuser, a diabolos. I see him as reiterating the arguments of the first three, often misrepresenting Job's words and arguments, but in a more forceful and personal way. I’ve seen others comment they see Elihu as a type of Christ, or Bro. Halverson saying this is a dress rehearsal for our judgment-and I just don’t see it. If Elihu is correct, what need would God have to show up? He could have left Elihu's word as the truth. Some of what Elihu says is actually true in theory, but misapplied to Job's situation. God comes to correct the incorrect thinking of the four people who pretend they understand God’s ways while saying God’s ways are unfathomable. I’m glad to see someone else bring this up.
Since Job gave an inheritance to his daughters, Job 42:15, might this signify that Job lived prior to the time of Moses, since under the law of Moses, it is my understanding that only sons received an inheritance?
Job 42:10 it is stated, Job prayed for his friends and his captivity was taken away, possibly the greatest reason why his blessings were restored? Did that jump out at you JH my friend?
Hello Elder Jared~ You keep saying that Jesus or God " condescending to us but u think you want to be saying Descends to us. Because "condescending" means to be rude to people. I don't think God nor Jesus would be like that toward us. Do you?? Let us know. Okeedokee!!🫠😉😉😊

At 45:00 Job made a covenant with his eye- to not look upon a maiden. I love that concept.
Bro Halverson, I feel like every lesson you prepare is for just for me.
This one in particular! Thank you😌♥️♥️
I love this lesson, however i found that notwithstanding all the wisdom and knowledge you have shared i felt there was more insight that was overlooked. So i reread Job and what a treasure trove of knowledge is packed in this book. I would encourage everyone to read it again.
Insight 1. No one is certain of Gods workings amoung men.
2. God is all powerful and wise
3. Its best we do not judge
Your life and work are a continuing blessing to me personally, and those over whom I have influence and stewardship. You do remain in my prayers of gratitude and I do pray it will be well with both you and me and the things we hold dear. God Speed! God bless you.
Truly this is some of the most beautiful scripture.
Thank you so much for your time
Humbled and amazed
Thank you Brother Halverson, your lesson has deeply touched my heart today.
LOVED the ending! That was beautiful.
Oh brother Halverson, I hope you have a small understanding of how much of the divine you bring to my understanding. Thank you, thank you.
One lesson to take from this is that often through adversity (or suffering) we have something to learn.
Thank you very much Bro. Halverson for your diligence in sharing to us, to me, your time and effort. You are an angel speaking.
Thank you very much 😍👏
Another pair of lessons expounded wonderfully. Thank you, Brother Halverson. I anxiously await your lessons on Isaiah.
Best so far. Thank you.
The trials we go through give us the opportunity to come to know God in ways we would not otherwise. Not to mention gaining empathy for others who suffer. Possibly God also doubled Job's life span?
I love this it touched my heart ❤
I love the book of Job and did even the first time I read the bible. One of my favorites.
I've been LDS my whole adult life, joining the church at 21 yo.. In the 1000s of talks I've listened to I have heard few that are as arrogant as you. "I don't want mercy but want justice" Every man has sinned and NEEDS the mercies of God. Including you.
Elder Joseph Wirthlin said it. “Come what may and love it.”
He also advised us not to ask, “Why?”
Enjoy these:) been like the lepors where only one turned to thank. Keep up the great work:) the worth of souls is great
The one who thanked then was healed in his heart.
Wow, this is good!
Thank you for reminding us that we don't understand All things, but that we can be reminded as Job did that:
"For My Thoughts are not your thoughts, Neither are your ways My Ways, saith the Lord. “For as the Heavens are higher than the Earth, so are My Ways Higher than your ways, and My Thoughts than your thoughts."
- Isaiah 55:8-9.
But I will admit, like you mentioned Elder Maxwell (?) saying,
"At times, it's hard to see what All the shouting was about." 😏😉
One last thing I wanted to thank you about (hadn't crossed my mind until you mentioned it) was Job's Family. I too wondered why the size of his Family members weren't doubled. But when you explained about the Eternal perspective, I realized, as you have, that his Family on Earth And those who had passed on would be with him throughout the Eternities. 👨👩👧👦❤️💒✝️🕊️🙏
Thank you for sharing these treasures!
Bad things for our benefit...yes, for he told us in Genesis 3:17 "...cursed is the ground for thy sake." Right?
Needed that...
I have more insights about The book of Job. Thank you..
Inspiring, Merci!
Just taking a break to say 🤩
Amen
But God DOES answer Job! Not directly... but by giving him the Endowment of knowledge, Job would understand WHY he suffered. Just as we can understand.
Job 42:17 “So Job died, being old and full of days”. And if he died, it also leaves the inescapable conclusion, that he also lived!
@Jared Halverson, Could Elihu represent the deceiver, Satan? There’s an article in The Interpreter “Job: An LDS Reading”
“As the reader has likely surmised, I see Elihu as a figure for Satan, much like the serpent in the Garden of Eden. This idea was first proposed by David Noel Freedman:
I believe that Elihu - who comes from nowhere and disappears from the scene as soon as he is done with his speeches - is not a real person at all.
Thanks
So who wrote this book? It couldn’t have been Job since he never got the explanation in chapter one.
He could have written by commandment later.
I always enjoy your lessons because they provide me new insights. Thanks for doing this act of service
So, God did not explain. How did we come to know then? Just wondering.
Which movie videos are these?
Sheesh.... Thank you.
Since Job gave an inheritance to his daughters, Job 42:15, might this signify that Job lived prior to the time of Moses, since under the law of Moses, it is my understanding that only sons received an inheritance?
The answer is: yes they could.
Please Google your question and read the information therein.
Pleased to be of help.
Job 42:10 it is stated, Job prayed for his friends and his captivity was taken away, possibly the greatest reason why his blessings were restored? Did that jump out at you JH my friend?
So who wrote the book of Job and where/how did we get chapters 1 and 2
Oops! I missed a couple of words there. God Descends to us but He does Not "Condescend" towards us. Right????
Job is saying “I am justified” which is not the issue. God is “Sanctify” Job . . .
Sanctifying
Hello Elder Jared~
You keep saying that Jesus or God " condescending to us but u think you want to be saying Descends to us.
Because "condescending" means to be rude to people. I don't think God nor Jesus would be like that toward us. Do you?? Let us know. Okeedokee!!🫠😉😉😊
