About the only change I would look for is to change out the sooty charcoal black cabinetry to a different color. It looks blotchy and like it will scratch and chip way to easily and look worn and torn after only a couple of uses. The additional nice thing about the camp kitchens is the camp fridge provides additional easily accessible cold storage.
The back corners of the wards by the bed could have openings placed into them for placing CPAP machines, phones, eye glasses, hearing aid holders, tissue dispensers or what ever knight stand knickknacks you have and use just before lights out.

We recently traveled to see Freedom Express models. Quality was nice. Designs were fabulous. Features were wonderful. The floor-plans were genius. Sadly, we couldn’t get past the black cabinet color. Fingerprints and flaws were magnified. Bedrooms were dark. One could touch up scuffs with a marker… But I guess we wish there was a choice of a lighter wood finish.

@@JoshtheRVNerd It's a great design with the 'wider' dinette and the option for a sleeper sofa. IMO, the Coachmen APEX 279RLSS is still best. It's shorter, and has a super slide. Bring back the 279!

At $58k msrp, I would expect roller night shades, not the accordion blinds. Otherwise, this one is my favorite travel trailer floorplan. I love the 45 sink. Plus it makes that pic outside kitchen possible.

The outward sliding drawers on the queen bed is awesome! Every travel trailer should have that. Now I want to remove our hinged fold-up bed and build an outward sliding drawer bed frame for our TT !! Looks like a project coming for myself.....
Josh your absolutely right, the Freedom Express line is very underated. We have a 2015 282BHDS Freedom Express and have had zero leaks or major issues with it.
Normal upkeep and preventative maintenance goes a long way, but I've always felt out Coachmen was built very decently.

Ok after watching hundreds of walk throughs. You designed my trailer. In the right colors! A touch of the fifties with the booth cushions, but with Fonzie flavor. No prissy stuff. Sophisticated. The laundry hamper to the bedroom closet blew my mind! And I loved the hidden storage behind the tv! Front row seat to the tv for murder mystery night! Perfection on the kitchen counter! Your right about the sink bad spot. But that's my only complaint! And I'm a picky old lady with ocd! Great job!

  • @ForestGreen88

I'm liking this floor plan despite no fridge access in road mode. I'm not in love either the hight of the freezer and microwave in the kitchen. They look like I might have trouble pulling things out safely. The pleated shades look like they're made with very thin fabric and it cheapens the whole look of the RV. I'd much prefer a heavier fabric or the blackout roller blinds. I would also prefer a lighter color for the kitchen cabinets.
I'm not a fan of the windshield in the bedroom and wish it at least had a cover for transit. I'd love to see the bedside cpap-friendly storage with an outlet in the pocket.
The outdoor kitchen on this model looks usable and it sounds like I just need an inverter on the fridge for the grocery stop before arriving at the camp site.
If I could change one thing on this model, and only one thing...I'd ask the factory to add the cpap pockets.

    • @JoshtheRVNerd

I love the fact there’s no bathroom vent by the toilet it’s on the side of the wall which is absolutely amazing. I can’t tell you how many RVs I have gone into and something has fallen down into the vent. Whether it be a Q-tip or contact lens, you name it it has fallen down in there. I love the fact that there is no vents showing anywhere in this RV in the floor. They’re all hidden or in the wall.

Drawers in the kitchen is a must. I think if they had put the sink square with the counter with the U-tensil drawer and storage space under the sink for a waste basket then drawers on the left of the L shaped countertop. Would be a win.
Other than that I really like this one.

I agree that the sink should be moved out of that awkward corner position. A lighter color option, and having pullout storage under the dinette seats instead of just the doors would be nice. Standard solar and day/night roller shades are a definite plus.

I wish the sink was centered on either counter, i dont like it catty wampus like that. I do wish they would add a cabinet next/close to the sink for a pull out trash can.

Hey Josh, great video and great camper! The changes I’d like to see would be, a pop up plug in the countertop / back corner of the kitchen, more color options for the cabinetry, have the door for the outdoor kitchen open downwards so it doesn’t block the kitchen windows, change the narrow bedroom window to a rectangular window that opens , add night /roller shades, and an option for auto leveling jacks. Another new floor plan I’d love to see would be to take the bedroom from the 259FKDS and put it on the front of this camper so you end up with 2 slides and you’ll have the king bed and the full size outdoor kitchen. THAT would be an amazing camper, and check all my boxes! 😉. Thanks for all your great videos, you’re the best!

I noticed they still have the "U-tensil" drawer inside but it is offset since they have the sink at that wonky angle. I would much prefer if the sink and "U-tensil" drawer were located where the drawer is to make it more comfortable when using the sink. I think that would be nice if the slide was prepped for an awning too. Just my 2 cents.

In the bathroom. Love the shower and toilet space. The hamper needs to be moved to a tip-out style under the counter with that door. It would be a pain to always move what's in the closet to lift up the floor hatch. If you stand in front of the kitchen sink, it would be fine I think. Nice floorplan overall Josh!

This video is a bit old, but we are seriously considering this one as our retirement camper (our 3rd overall). It has darn near everything we want, but if I am picking at nits, I would really like to see a couple more kitchen drawers. Either to the left of the sink, or maybe even a couple behind the pantry doors. Our current kitchen has 4 (smallish) drawers, but I don't think that one good size drawer is going to cut it for us. Looking at the 2024.5 model of this right now (2024 with several line changes), it might deserve a revisit. The colors are nicer (those black cabinets look dirty throughout the video) and the bedside storage has been greatly improved. Also has drawers now under dinette and big SS farm sink.

much better then the light color .. the one thing I didn’t realize until after we bought is there are no outlets by the dining table . We have our camper at seasonal site and I usually work there on Friday’s . I use the table but no plugs

The one item I really think needs an upgrade is the front window. Because of the heat that comes through it even with the shade pulled, id like to see an outside shade awning or something inside to block out the heat. Maybe build one without the window too. That would be a nice look. Because a window over the bed really isn't practical. Talk about a wake up call my body is cold from that 15 k ac but my head is on fire from that window.

How cute! 95% awesome! I like the position of the sink, but it's the stovetop that I would far prefer to have at least 6" of elbow room to the right side. What creative storage built-ins! I love flexible furniture in nooks and crannies to maximize the use of small spaces. Everything feels nice and balanced.

Totally agree about the fridge! I despise this latest trend toward these stupid battery-sucking 12V fridges. I prefer the flexibility of being able to camp with or without electric and if no electric I'd like my batteries to last more than a day.

Man o man Josh! That old dome is getting really pinkish red, ain't it?😁😆😅😂🤣. Great floor plan that was baked to perfection in the ole dome. 😁😆😅😂🤣 God lord man! Just take a long look at all that counter space. That things got an aircraft carrier for countertops! Very very nice man. The storage space behind the tv is such an obvious that it should of been done ever since the flat screens became the normal. That'll do Josh, that'll do 🐖.

But I really do like the floor plan you let bake in the dome under the sun 😅. At least you're further north than I. I down in Sav., GA. AND IT'S HOT! With the humidity, well... You'd be a fool to install a sauna in your house. Just stroll outside. For the best effect, head out after an afternoon thunderstorm and the sun has come out. Yeah... It's super thick.

This floorplan is very, very similar to our Sunset Trail 291rk. Our kitchen sink is in front of the window, and there's plenty of space on either side.
For refrigerated foods during travel, nothing says you can't use the outside fridge. As far as the pantry being inaccessible, there's plenty of other storage to put things you'll need in transit.

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  2 года назад +1

For full transparency: The fridge outside doesn't operate in transit unless an inverter is added. That might make a difference to someone.

We bought this trailer and we love it, however a few things that need attention.
We were not told the fridge was only run on electric (found that out in the video to change refrigerators if we wanted both), but good to know about the solar panel.
The sink is a little funky in the kitchen, but I’m already ok with it after 4 trips.
The thing you really need to look out for is the cabinet that houses the TV. The latch is crap! We just came home from a trip today and it was a bit of a bumpy road. When we got home I opened the trailer to find the latch had failed and the entire “door” to the cabinet was just hanging by a thread with the tv having fallen onto the ground. We are leaving in one week for a 10 day trip so my husband spent 4 hours after our ride home just to try to be able to stabilize the door. The tv suffered internal shock and no longer works. The wiring behind the cabinet is very intricate and thankfully the fireplace wiring is separate. But we definitely have to contact the manufacturer not just for us, but to insist they put a better latch on the cabinet. Perhaps one like they have on the bedroom door.
This was a terrible hazard and we are all grateful it didn’t fall on someone when they were in the camper!!!

Nearly perfect. The hinge for the storage behind the TV should be black rather than sticking out like a sore thumb. Personally, I prefer theatre seating with a fold down center armrest. It gives you the option to lay down or cuddle up with someone, but still have an armrest/cupholders when reclining.

    • @JoshtheRVNerd

I really enjoy your informative videos. I've been camping in tents and pop ups for many years . The rear kitchen and rear bath layouts are my favorites. On this camper, I wish the stove was to the right of sink along the long wall.. pans with long handles are harder to maneuver up against the fridge. Plus, grease would splatter on the fridge wall as well. Just my thoughts. Please keep up the great videos! Hopefully one day I'll be able to purchase a travel trailer. :)

I can see putting food you need for a stop in the outside frig. Inside I think you could get to the kitchen if you turned the table upside down or turned it up on the back bench. Not sure but maybe. Other than limited access love the layout and storage and windows!!

I see why they did that with the sink. If it was straight on you’d lose all that space in the corner under where the sink is now. There would be no way to get back there easily and you can’t enter from the backside because the seats are there.
I wish the hitch weight was lower. I can only do 770.

Love it. If I could change a few things I'd prefer a collapsible table to convert the table into a child sleeper. Or ...... has anyone ever done a booth with a removable table, but then have the bench faces flip up (maybe legs fold down for support) to form the bed?? Or maybe an elevated booth/ slide out with a pull out day bed underneath? Would also love if the TV was hinged on the opposite side so it could be swung out the other way to face the booth.
