I would love for you to do another test on the five sharpest blades of this group, where you do multiple tests per blade (perhaps 5) to show repeatability. Also it would be nice if those five different tests per blade were done in five different locations along the edge so that we can know how consistent each blade edge is within itself.
The amount of engineering here is pretty interesting. Some of these blades will be intentionally made a bit more dull so as to hold an edge longer. It all depends on the exact stainless alloy you're using. Some can hold a sharper edge longer and some can only hold a sharp edge for a few uses, so the manufacturers have to find a delicate balance for their proprietary (or not) alloys.
Fantastic video! I wonder how consistent these results would be over blades ... Like doing this test multiple times would result in an average score for consistency sake
Very interesting and useful information. Great job! There are so many interesting blades for sharpness test. Gillette Sputnik, Dorko Titan, Dorko 301, Treet Classic, Treet Falcon, SuperMax Titanium! So, let's wait for the continuation.) By the way, you forgot about Dorko 300 in the video.)
I've only tried some of these blades. Derby's feel the dullest to my face. Feathers are sharp but feel scratchy the first use. Kai feels sharp but smooth. Perma-Sharp has been my goto for years along with Personna Blues for general smoothness. This whole debate is a little maddening. Sometimes, I just buy Personna Blues because they're made in the USA and there's such little difference between most of these blades depending on what razor I use. Thanks for the video.
I'm new to this style of shaving and I just tried a Rapira brand blade from a variety pack I got on Amazon and wow. It just glided through two days growth like nothing. I had to check to make sure I was abgled right and it was actually shaving, that's how smooth and comfortable it was. No dragging or pull, just glided through the growth like a hot knife through butter. I had only tried Wilkinson and Derby Platinum before this and the Rapira was far better. Now I know why people rate Derby and Wilkinson a 6 or 7 out of 10, the Rapira I give a solid 10/10 on.
I don't think this test is accurate. Most likely the technic you use to press isn't the same each time. Something seems off... Derby extra and feather difference is only 5, when feather is known for sharpest and derbies known for one the most mildest
I'll try to make this the last comment I make, lol! I would also like to see the feather tested again. I saw another channel test the Feather and achieved a score of 15, 20, and 20. It's possible that they're calibration was a little messed up, but I think it could be time well spent to give the Feather another shot.
Great video, although I suspect that the results may not be accurate due to you holding the knife/apparatus in your hand. Even with your best effort it would be difficult to reproduce the results. Maybe fix the apparatus to a fixed structure? Some type of device that lowers the blade with precision that the human hand simply can produce. Regardless, excellent video and thank you! It does lend a good barometer. 👍👍🙌
ufff most of these on the list dont sell here...but i can give you a list of what they sell here...if you have an option to do it derby black platinum, euromax platinum, bolzano, parker, rockwell....they have so many derby versions and shark versions its insane
if its a thinner blade then obviously it will cut through fast in that test on vertical pressure test. when your shaving on skin its only the edge of the blade dragging that matters for sharpness
Everyone knows that Feather is, on average, the sharpest DE razor blade in the world. It is proven by thousands of DE shavers around the world. Feather is the sharpest blade overall. Period.
Real good Damascus would beat that by far it's the sharpest but it's too expensive that's why they don't use it like in scalpels or whatever but I collect real expensive custom Damascus knives and I want to get an obsidian knife cuz those are supposed to be extremely Sharp
No, they are the worst. I got a bit confused there too, but upon rewinding it, I realized he was saying the Super Max was the worst of them all with a sharpness rating of 90. The Facon blade was the sharpest. Not an easy blade to find though, Facon seems to only come with a razor head on Amazon Canada anyway. I cannot find them sold seperately. I just tried a Rapira though, from a variety pack I just got from Amazon and WOW, it didn't even feel like I was shaving. I had to check to make sure it was cutting and my angle was proper. It was soooo smooth, so this test is a good gauge, for sure. I had 2 days growth and some good whiskers and it just glided through them like nothing, like they werem't even there. Far better than a Wilkinson blade I got with my Wilkinson shaver and better than Derby Platinum, which were the only two I had tried so far.
All due respect but Personna blue 35, Prime 40, Shark Plat 45 , Suck. Period. There's no way they are sharper than a Feather or Astra Greens. In fact, I threw out half the ones you tested since they couldn't cut hot butter. You have the blades, now do a shave test in real time blade vs blade and see for yourself. Get some Permasharp blades, they'll blow those "Sharp" blades away.
Your blades are not secured to the knife at the same point or angle, your knife rests on the fulcrum at different points every time. Your tests are invalid which is a shame as I know you could easily do better.

We are working on this. Thanks for the idea.
@@2brothersadventures Doesn't look like you're working very hard tho
Thank God! I've been hoping for a test like this!
Absolutely wow. loved this vid. the results blew me away. give me more of this anytime.

Dorco and Wilkinson is my go to blades. Form 6 to 10 shaves for each side of blade

I concur. Derby is dull compared to Voskhod or feather. Shark platinums 45? Five over feather…I call bs.
Thank you for a fast moving video. Could you evaluate the Gillette 7 O' Clock blade?
Well I'm glad as I have a boat load of Derby blades left, and while not the best they are in the lower average side.

We will try to get to this. Make sure to subscribe so you can see when it comes out.
We retested the feather. It will post soon.
Please test RK. Subscribed.

Time for a New update video on your Ka-Bar Heavy Bowies
treet king, crown platinum, bigfoot, topaz platinum, parker platinum, the gentleman super platinum

Test different straight razors???😝

SUPER MAX PLATINUM IS THE SHARPEST ON THE TEST, CORRECT IF THI IS WRONG?

тест не корректный, так как используется самая дешёвая версия тестера с шагом в 5 грамм
Not accurate
The way you are clamping in the knife is incorrect, as you have different links every time and it's not an equal amount of exposure of blade.
interesting
Derby black it's better same price as the green Blades. your mileage may vary? wheelchair larry
