My plan is to keep them adjacent, but not mixed with our hens. I've been raising Naragansett for the first time. So far, about a 50% mortality rate for the first chicks, but now they're all thriving. They are so hard to raise compared to our chickens.

Agreed. I feed mine boiled egg whites for extra protein. Treat them once a day. Sofar all 10 purchased are thriving, 9 weeks old.

@@roncoquillette6576 I did the boiled eggs too but they didn't seem too interested. However, every morning they now expect sunflower seeds and oats. They gobble that up like candy. I added liquid vitamin B12 to their water and some mineral replacement mix they use for hot weather. The chicks are at the 4 week mark And living with the 11 week old. Finally in a tractor adjacent to the chickens as of last night. Good luck to you!

@@socal33 I also bought dry soldier worms at Walmart. I baby them. I been picking them blackberries. I garden so they got all my Broccoli. They love the leaves of the broccoli stem, and would eat the stems if I dice it up. I also have an older pair of black Spanish with my 10 bronze heritage.

@@roncoquillette6576 They are really loving the 28% protein feed I picked up. I tried wetting it but they seem to like the dry stuff 🤷🏻
I'm just paranoid about the foxes getting one once they are old enough to roam freely. We've lost six chickens in broad daylight during the last 4 weeks. They are able to get over/under the gate so I'm reinforcing. Seems like there's always something trying to get your birds.

@@roncoquillette6576 Broccoli? I'll try that, thanks. The worms were a favorite of our baby birds too. They're starting to notice bugs too as we moved the tractor into our field last night.

I don't raise chickens and turkeys in the same coop. Although, bourbon red turkeys and georgia giant bobwhite can be together just fine in the same coop. You just need to put a lot of stuff in the coop for cover. The quail seem to like cover

I know how to skip the problem about the different feed, do Jersey giants and turkeys become jerseys giants need extra protein

Would worming with ivermectin not help in stopping the parasite in the chicken?
