I want to make sure i understood. Just give her (my friends 5 week old) puppy an assertive command of NO. And if anything, twist the scruff of her neck?
Use your fingers to put pressure on the snout and squeeze a little bit. Make it unpleasant for the dog every time they put their teeth on you. Eventually they come to associate an unpleasant sensation with biting.
I agree 100%...even mother dogs correct their puppies behavior when they get out of line. And as far as what you said about children that could be so true...thats why kids grow up into punks because of no discipline.
I’ve had a problem with correcting my 4 month Rottweiler pup. When my boyfriend and I got her, his family was in town and she was nipping and I scolded her and grabbed her by the neck as you said and everyone freaked out. No one wanted me to correct her even my boyfriend got mad at me and now she’s 5 months growing and stronger they came around and she bit them now they all get mad about it but that’s what happens when no one wants to be the bad guy. I correct her non stop now and she is getting so much better, kinder friendlier and more gentle. Funny thing is I am always correcting her behavior but now she loves me more than anyone. Can’t be away from me.
@@drEAmzZzza i agree sir or maam but dogs are more obedient once trained kids that turn into teenagers are uncontrollable they’ll leave you faster than the speed of light dogs would never
You just saved us. Our 12 week old Rottie was snarling, biting and attacking our feet and clothing. We were about to return her when I saw this video. The minute I bonked her, she yelped, retreated and has been an angel since. I don't plan on bonking her very often but Holy Cow, what an ingenious idea! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Excellent, excellent advice! Every new puppy owner should watch this and follow the advice. And parents who eat meat should also watch. That was hysterical.
I made a bonker after watching this, absolutely the best!. I used mine on my 7 week old Rottweiler twice and now as soon as I say no, leave it, or out I get immediate obedience. I get her wild and play with her but when I say done she knows it's time to chill.
Thank you Larry! After so many useless attempts like redirecting, giving food etc. your teaching has been the only one that worked to stop my puppy's biting: A loud "no!", grabbing the back of his neck, using a bonker if necessary. Totally worked!
@Zeno Yes, I've realized using a bonker is not a healthy method at all and stopped doing it a long time ago. As for the redirection, is there a video you could recommend?
THANK YOU. You are one of the few people I have heard this from- thank you for saying what needs to be said! I’ve raised 2 standard poodles from puppies and correction is the ONLY thing that stops it. Companion dogs must be taught to never bite humans. I’m saving this clip and sending it to everyone I know!
This is my 2nd Rott. The first one was quite easy to train with a passive personality. This one is 10 weeks, already I can tell this isn't the same personality. Great advice.. Thanks.
i like this. with our 11 week old Rottie, whenever he bit us, we'd use our hands like mouths and "bite" him back firmly and very fast while shouting NO! After the fourth time, he stopped. It actually changed his whole demeanour toward us. It didn't hurt him, and now he knows to only bite toys and we're closer than ever. Gotta put them in their place in a way they understand, and that's how their mother would do it.
Yes I’m about the same My sixteen week old boy rott pup is concerning me because he’s a little mean butt! The advice I got from a coworker who’s raising a pit puppy whose an angel And he said u better show who’s in charge now or ur in trouble!! I’m taking the advice now!
My Rottie is incredibly smart! She is 8 weeks and knows how to sit, lie down, roll over and shake. But I cannot, to save my life, get her to stop biting! I hope this helps! She’s amazing but she needs to stop the biting
My hands and arms are in bits because off my Doberman puppy!! Got her at 4 months!! I’m glad I came to your page because that miss direction stuff has not been working!!
Rottweilers are not for everyone especially someone weak minded. This breed is a strong fearless breed, They will definitely try to boss you around. I had my Rambo for 8 years and he was so smart and grew up to be the best Dog ever. Now I have my new puppy itachi and he’s a lil more energetic but we are working super hard to make sure he thrives when he’s older. I’m excited to see how Great he turns out to be.
This was so refreshing to watch. It’s astounding how many training videos on RUclips take a non-corrective approach to puppy biting. Thank you for keeping it real Larry. I really enjoy your content.
Rene Lopez it is astounding isn’t it? Some go so far as to redirect with food which is basically rewarding the dog for biting. It completely dumbfounds me.
I have a vicious food aggressive 4 month old pup I'm currently working with. NO regard for humans when it comes to his kibble. I gave him several very serious & meaningful "talkin' to's" about his behavior. He now backs up, I reward the hell out of him with high value treats for surrendering his bowl and we're closer than ever. He's a great puppy & he's getting better by the day, but he can't eat my boot if I get near his bowl. And I agree about Michael Ellis' ideas about play biting in that context, but sometimes enough is just enough and you have to HALT the behavior before it escalates. Thanks Larry!
Larry just saw this video last night and wow I thought you were talking about us. We have a 7 week old Rott and man he does have some biting issues. We tried your advise today and its already paying off, magazine rolled up and an aggressive voice works wonders. Thank you so much for the advise
I agree soooo much! I raised my almost 12 year old Pitbull from 7 weeks and naturally corrected him just as I did my children. No positive reinforcement crap. He is a wonderful dog and follows commands, understands I’m boss. Our current Rottweiler puppy just turned 12 weeks. It’s been so long since I raised a pup, so we’ve researched best training methods, etc. Everything says redirect, positive reinforcement, etc. She has been vicious since 8 weeks, and that soft crap has not stopped her. Time to go back to my natural instincts of corrections over redirection....
This post was so refreshing. I have an 8 week old Rottweiler pup. Ive had her since she was 7 weeks old so it’s only been a week. She want hands/feet/pants more than her toys but the past 2 days she’s been growling and biting way harder! I’ve been trying the positive reinforcement crap and it didn’t do a single thing. I knew it was bullshit lol! I’ll also be correcting instead of redirecting now.
@@captainrogers2542 hey! She’s over a year old now. What helped me the most was saying NO! Very assertively and ignoring her after. My dog loves cuddles/attention so this bothered her a lot and after doing it consistently she stopped.
@@dawnl8743 mine doesn’t stop even when I say no. It just bites harder and harder. It’s only 2 months old. Should I give some time or should I correct it?
I had a rott. Best dog I ever had. One thing I did was teach him good bite and bad bite. good bite was a toy, bad bite was me. That worked out pretty well. He also tried to mount my leg once, and I shut that shit down fast. He never tried that again. If I wanted to correct, I would hold his muzzle and say NO, BAD. He was pretty smart, didn't have to do that very many times. The one thing I really failed him on was socialization. If I ever get another one (probably not, I found out my home insurance won't cover you if they find out you have one ) I would definitely work on that way more. Rotts are awesome, but they are exhausting lol. You *always* have to be the leader. Because they will try you :)
botchgoddess mines is out of control it's getting worse with age and unfortunately hurts like a mofo. Holding muzzle makes her snap at me after I literally think she's out to kill me. CertIn things don't work for some dogs. If she gets mad about something she will snap in matter of second.
Google User that's absolutely horrible. Although you are probably already doing this I would recommend just getting on to of her and showing her whose the boss. I have a male rottie who is almost 1 1/2 now. We rescued him last November when he was 5 months old so we did not get to train him early like we wish we could have. He was found on the streets so did not have much training, he only knew sit. To this day he is the most stubborn dog ever and will not listen if he doesn't want to. On rare occasions he does snap or get really mouthy with my family and I so we just have to throw him on the floor and pin him down until he stops. I was on the floor with him for well over an hour one time, but he is much better than he was before. It can definitely be a little scary when you have a big dog that you know can do damage, but sometimes you just have to show them who's boss.
Yes I agree with this socializing I have one that is not socialized and one that is once your dog is not socialized he is she will not adjust to it!! I have two rottweilers and they are the best breed dog I have ever had even though they are more work but they are the most lovable gentle dogs I have ever had and I have raised two Labrador Retrievers before Rottweilers!
If you would love to see them go to Instagram under Alo Ramirez or RUclips under Laurie Ramirez!! Stay tuned for our secret Santa, and living with Monty and Roxieann!! Please check out our other fun video's as well!!
@@maddie3329 I feel sorry for your dog if you're still doing that to this day. If you're trying to do that "Alpha Roll" thing, don't. Your dog itself should roll over, not by force but by choice. Your dog probably has a lot of mental problems, poor thing.
Thank you for this. I have my 2nd Rottweiler and omfg he is a devil! I’ve gone to a trainer last week and he was the most well behaved dog she couldn’t believe he was the way he is at home. I had to send her videos. What she suggested isn’t working. I will definitely be following your videos!
Greetings Sir I am a Canine behaviorist and Trainer from India.. glad to see your video.. and yes I completely agree with you here.. My Dad was the one to bring the first 2 Rottweilers in India and after that we kept many breeds but I got my first Rotty about a month back and yes.. she's aggressive.. so I've been training her and correcting her habit of mouthing and snapping.. she's responding well.. her name's Zebba and I tell you, a well behaved Rottweiler is nothing less than a dream come true.. Best regards
Replaying this again - As a 5 time rottie owner - particularly appreciate you underscoring the 'mouthing'...aka biting issue. Was thinking along the lines of 'distract' - Very good point! Time to fix it now.
My german shepard mix puppy had a terrible nipping problem and I'm really glad I found this video. I grabbed his scruff ONCE when he nipped and he hasn't nipped anyone since. I've also noticed many other bad behaviors have went away instantly. Keep in mind, this all happened in one day. My puppy is 3.5 months old. Redirecting did not work and actually made him worse. To me redirecting didn't make any sense because I felt as though I was rewarding him for his bad behavior which made him think it was good. Absolutely fantastic advice. 10/10 Logan
I raised two rottie puppies at the same Time, and what i did when i saw that behavior was grab a good chunk of their skin behind their head and give it a good squeeze with a firm no. Also a decent amount of obedience training goes a LOOOONG WAY. Now I have two very well mannered and well behaved rotts.
Great advice that applies to all dogs - not just Rottweilers. Too many people just don't understand dogs. They think their dogs understand their language when they don't, they don't teach or treat them the correct way, and this is why we have the tragedy of millions of dogs ending-up in shelters or being put down. Love, patience and understanding is what all dogs need, then they will be the best friend you ever have.
I have a pit rot mix and he enjoys being rough and biting SUPER HARD. It will be play at first then he gets mad and wants to go crazy. I appreciate this video thanks so much!
Anthony Myers That really is a strange theory. Have you seen bitches correct their pups? It's a growl and a blunt grip to show displeasure. If the offending behaviour continues the correction escalates as well... till the puppy gets it.... mommy's not having any of that crappy behaviour little guy... and this correction continues on a daily basis... getting a bit firmer as the pups grow and get bigger.. mom ensures that she is respected as top dog... in return pups get love, affection and protection. We take mommy's place when the pup leaves his litter for our homes and we must keep up her good work to get happy balanced young adolescent dogs. That's why very often you'll see better behaved pups in a home with an existing older dog. Hierarchy is key among canines and you ignore it at your peril.
Ironically this works with cats too! People who say you can't discipline a cat or kitten obviously have never tried. They're not THAT different from dogs.
I just got a female 11 week old Rotti, my 3rd, and she is very aggressive with biting, Never had that issue with my other Girls, they obeyed never harmed my son, This little lady needs what you said I should do, although I heard NEVER hit a dog, I believe, She needs to know I'M THE ALFA IN THIS HOUSE! Thanks
We'll be having a colley, but you know what, colley or rott, doesn't matter. I needed this. So many videos online be like "redirect to a chew toy. Oh and remember to buy this chew toy from my website!" I'm sick of this crap. Thanks for the real talk, Larry. I really like your videos and you're very informative
My Rottie girl just turned 3 months yesterday. She’s very smart and has been fairly easy to train. She can sit, lay down, stay, high five, and knows not to touch her food until told to. She also knows not to go out the door until I go first. But she playfully bites. It’s the only problem I have with her.
When I had my rottie pup when he bite my hand I would put pick him up and pinch him or put him in a uncomfortable position until he was calm. I would count down and if behaves I reward him. When I got him I allow it for a day and after Its time to stop and only took like 2 days to stop him biting.
@Greg Rutter I’ve tried this and he’s calmed down but then I tried to give him a treat when he stopped moving but then he would go at it again I think the food gets him a bit hyper
@@andreao8140 so today I was looking back at this vid and what I now do is that I just pin him on his side basically the way he puts himself when I pet him and I just say “No” or “stay” until he stops squirming and he has calmed down more and I can even caress his face without him biting but every so often he does nip when playing or gets distracted by my hand but I tried to do the neck thing and I was grabbing really hard as much as I could and let me tell you, he didn’t even whimper I think he has skin of steel honestly my other method was better and I feel more comfortable not trying to hurt him
I just got my 7 month old Rott, this is my second Rottweiler. My first i had since she was 2 months until she died. This one definitely tries to bite even when i try to correct her behavior.
I like your videos my guy. Seems like you are the only one who keeps it real when it comes to raising a stubborn, yet so intelligent breed such as a rottwielier.
I needed to hear this. Mine has been growing, biting and throwing a tantrum when you pick him up. He’s only 10weeks. I’ve been correcting this with the scruff and also when he bites while he isn’t being picked up, I pin him with my fingertips on this side or back and while saying “no” until he calms and once he’s calm I let him up.
Stop picking him up :) discipline his biting I've always rolled the bottom lip over the teeth when they bite you, they learn very swiftly that it's unpleasant to bite you. I have Black Russians now but have had many working breeds.
We have a Rotty that was the last of the litter called Rowdy. She was a biter as a pup for awhile but is now the kindest girl who lays by our side and loves our grandkids. She was potty trained in one week and is a family treasure
I've had 4 Rottweilers and loved them all. They are tough to train and are very powerful. But they need constant instructions and attention. So after they all died I switched to English bulldogs. My profile picture was my favorite. His name was Bane and behind him was my first English Bulldog Biggie.
We have a Pitweiller (Dad Rotty, Mom Pitbull). He's a sweet dog but is super aggressive physically. He constantly jumps, nips and comes in like a 240lb running back looking to bull straight into you while playing fetch. I can handle him and he's actually gentle with my kids. But when my wife is around he goes bonkers on her and she gets frightened. He's 5 months old and already 50lbs. Nice to see this video for reassurance, thank you!
Hi there I just recently started watching ur videos. I’m currently just got myself a shepherd rot pup at 8 weeks. He’s now 5 months. SMART. Very good listener. I enjoy his mild mannor. But I’m wanting to teach to groul on command I corrected him the whole way. He knows his place that being said. His attitude is awesome now.
Very well said. This is a must with ALL dogs. Giving a treat is not misdirection, it is rewarding bad behaviour. Parent dogs correct puppies all the time, older siblings correct puppies. It is a must for the dog
My Rott is a nightmare at the vet. Everywhere else she is a dream dog. Unfortunately she associates the vet office with pain (she’s sensitive to the shots) and becomes very defensive. Doesn’t want anyone besides me approaching her hindquarters and has to be sedated enough to relax for Inspections.
Randy Moreau that's horrible what happened to your dog just to think the breeds that attacked your dog was a bit shocking!! But it could happen and did the owners should of never let their dog off the leash!! My two rottweilers do not like confrontation either but they can stand their ground when they need to!! They do not have trouble with any other animals cats small dogs Birds!! It's just simply how you train them and give them lots of love!! Yes socializing I miss the best thing to do they will know what to do when it's time they won't let nothing happen to you they're loving instincts. Kick in!!
I have a 7 week old Rottweiler/ Doberman pincher and when I saw this video, I was afraid of what you were gonna say as to how to correct biting, but so glad I’ve been doing the right thing. Thanks so much for the video.
This is my first time having a puppy. My 10 week old puppy is comfortable but gets aggressive when I try to put his harness on or just gets excited and becomes aggressive and breaks Skin. He may not be a Rottweiler but, he is aggressive. Thank you for this honest review. I always worry about the relationship with my puppy by reprimanding him. Thank you so much, this is a refreshing video on puppy training and discipline
We have a Rottweiler puppy just coming up on 5 months. She has definitely been a lot of work, and we work with her daily. I'm her favourite to nip, she normally nips at the back of my legs as we're going down a set of stairs or sometimes she starts nipping when I remove her from the cat. Your videos have been so helpful and we definitely focus on correcting her behaviours, we do notice that the nipping is slowing down thankfully!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 finally heard it from someone else other than me! a dog is not just a dog, it is another member of the family that needs the same attention as a human baby would! great video!
Hi Larry, Thank you for this video. We are waiting patiently for our male puppy to come in another month and being that my husband travels at times for long periods of time, I want to make sure that I will be able to handle "Samson" and not be afraid of him while hubby is gone. We had one several months ago who was a puppy of our females. The people who purchased him from us, had job changes so we were so happy to have him back. They had him for two years, but after the first year is when their jobs changed and he was not worked with at all. So by the time we got him, his personality was already set. He was very sweet most of the time but equally unpredictable. He would never let us truly pet him or love him. He loved to play and boy was he loyal to me but I was afraid of him. Sadly, due to some event, he had injured himself severely and due to his unpredictable nature and the amount of work that was going to be needed to help him, we, along with our vet thought it was best to put him down. I was so very sad. He was soooo beautiful and very sweet (but that element of aggression was very scary). So I want to do this right this time, so I thank you for this video and will watch all that I can before Samson arrives home to us.
Thank you for the advice, it’s a real misconception that correcting the behavior is the right thing and you put it very clearly how they will not be mad at you for yelling no and getting the newspaper on his butt. My boy shows progress every single day.
Thank you for tip on Rottweiler my dog 🐕 Rufus always love to bite when he plays rough and I'll tell him ouch/hurt and I give him stern no bitting that is correct way to training him
Thank you for this video. We have a 9wk rottweiler with a biting problem. and our Vet said to redirect. I needed to hear this video because the redirect is not working. Googled how to make a bonker from a towel.
I just wanted to say thank you for this 😅 My rottie is 11 weeks old and he’s an awful nipper. It drives me insane when I can’t walk two feet away without him coming for my ankles. I’ve told him no, held his mouth closed and told him no bite, popped him on the nose and said no and he’s still at it but I don’t was always worried it would affect our relationship when he gets older since all the other training videos tell you not to do that. I’ll be watching more of your videos! Thanks
N l2 Puppy teeth are pretty sharp. It hurts and sometimes breaks skin. My rott is almost 6 months old now and he still nips but I now know why he usually does it and we are still working on correcting it along with obedience training.
My puppy is 5 months old and he's gonna be a decently big guy, and we've tried all the distraction and redirection and time out tricks but it hasn't worked since we got him at 2 months old. He's so smart and I love his spunk but the biting and barking gets out of control a lot of the time. I love him and the last thing I wanna do is hurt him, but I also really don't want him to end up seriously hurting a child or another dog. Plus if he ended up getting put down because I was scared to give him proper discipline I would be heartbroken. Thanks for the advice.
Spot on my man. On my third Rott and they are strong willed dogs. If you correct them young and show them whose boss, they’re the best dogs in the world!
Wow...I never had any biting issues out of my rottie babi I took control immediately though. My initial thought was exactly wut u said. I remember saying to myself. "I better get the program straight right now...These dogs might grow to nearly 100 lbs & that's a dangerous thing to be out of control of". & I did just that. My dogs were keen to my voice commands and inflections. My snaps became the code for NO!. & really that's wut endeared me to this breed so much. They were tiny little babies. I got them right when they could get away from mom. & I was amazed at how intelligent they were. I mean I was like "look at this...you barely know doggie language & you can already follow my language too!!??" I was so impressed. That was 12 years ago. My 1 original girl is still w/ me. I absolutely love this breed. But yeah. Become the alpha immediately and set boundaries CONSISTENTLY. I does take time and repetition. I didn't do it just once. I scheduled training and bonding time daily w/ my babies. Having two perhaps helped bc My boy was a little slower than my girl But he was able to follow her lead. & together they were very good until they could operate independently.
Socialize your rotts to other dogs and humans as well early. I made the mistake of not allowing them to play w/ other dogs early. & It became a headache later.
So happy I found this video! I recently got a Rottweiler puppy he is currently 3 months old and he can’t stop biting things! He bites everything including me, and I don’t know how to correct him.
Thank you my daughter is trying toys and treats for her dog and he is still biting I told her he doesn't bit me just her. Showing her this video thanks
I have this exact problem with my very dominant female rottie , I scruff her for mild biting . But on times she has broken skin , I will pull her ear or bite down on her snout. This worked well with my German shepherd and she became a respectful well trained girl.
This was a serious need for me to see. I picked up my Rottweiler puppy today, when she didn't want to be picked up, and she snapped at me. Shes 8 weeks old, and I've been unsure of how to discipline her. But I have an idea of what to do now, thank u so much.
I actually used to bite my GSD back on the back of the neck, just hard enough to make her yelp- it worked very quickly! She was a beast when she was a pup but extremely clever.
I didnt have a dog since 2009 after our doberman died, i always wanted s dog i was thinking about many breeds, doberman again, rottweiler, amstaf, golden retriever, german shepard,... But after thinking about how my father used to tell me that our doberman was kinda hard to raise when he was young i decided to get golden retriever girl instead, but god she is also really stubborn when it comes to play, when she is sleepy after playing in garden she is the sweetest but when she wakes up in the middle of the night and wants to play she is like shark, i have no scars from her luckily but those sharp teeth hurt af sometimes. We try to show her who is the boss all the time with my fiance but sometimes i cant stop thinking about if im not actually making her mad dog. So thank you for reminding me that it needs to be done when they are young and "not dangerous". I was so used to our doberman being sweet and kind but i didnt witness his worst years since i've been born when he was already 2yrs old. I hope that my pup is going to be as sweet one day when im gonna continue being precise in raising her.
Hi I just seen your video I’m getting a Rottweiler puppy in several weeks from the breeder this video is very effective to me because I don’t want this puppy biting on my kids or wife or anyone so thank you I will look up what you mentioned very helpful.😀
Thank God there is someone who's not afraid and is totally clear about correcting a puppy. How many people out there spend their time recording and posting their little cute puppies on social media doing all kind of unacceptable behaviour and they just laugh and haunt for likes. It's disgusting!, And later on, when that cute little creature becomes an vicious and unruly beast they wonder what happened and why that little cuttie became this monster!.
That's exactly what I keep telling everybody who ask me questions , it might be cute wehen your puppy is 5lb but won't be when its a grown dog. And you don't rederict the issue , you correct the issue and fix it.
I have a 7 1/2 yr old Rottweiler and tommorrow we are getting a very young puppy (Rottweiler ) I am definitely showing my dad this channel he is just like you with corrections my 7 year old dog was not biting and not wasting inside at age 1 because of doing what you are saying!!! YELL!
Thanks for this. My pup has been home almost a week and now thats she comfy shes putting her mouth all over everything. I was redirecting her etc but ill take all the help i can get thanks for the tip.
I have been immersing myself in dog vids and I have read a lot of positive reinforcement vs Cesar's techniques. I know you are not promoting Cesar's but what you said is more similar to what he teaches and I agree. Distraction is not wrong nor is the right way but correction is definitely more effective. Thank you for this insight.
Please, that's the perception of Cesar and the assumption is that he doesn't use positive reinforcement...he does. That guy's ranch is full of different kinds of animals and when he can mix 9 different species up, predator and prey and take them for a walk harmoniously you know he's legit. prey species won't respond at all to negative reinforcement so that tells you something
So,So True. I'm into GShep. and have always raised them with 2 fingers on the bridge of the nose, ( most sensitive part of the animal ) it only takes a couple times, with the word No. but this video is spot on. THANKS
I agree with what you're saying, I didnt something with my Pitbull. I just make a clicking sound with my mouth and he knows that I'm reprimanding him. I'm really sad that he's growing old turning 10y/o on 27th of April
We had a lot of trouble with our rottweiler pup biting. One thing that worked well was putting my thumbnail in the very back of his gum line in the mouth where the series of teeth end. He absolutely hated it when I turned my thumb 90 degree so that when he bite down and his upper gum and lower gum met my thumbnail was wedged in between. He instantly stops and begins licking. I believe with certain dogs it's a combo of verbal and physical enforcement.
I love the advice here, but just watched Peter Canine Training, here on RUclips, and he absolutely advises against the bonker. I agree with the loud NO and scruff of the neck, but totally agree with Peter not to smack your dog on the head, or anywhere for that matter.
I just left the vet and my 13 week old was snapping and growling at the tech! He bites with intent to harm. I appreciate this! This is our third rottie and we never have dealt with this.
My puppy is 9 weeks today and a BEAR! Thank goodness I found this video because every other video I've watched says redirect and it's not working!!! He and I are fighting over dominance rn
Yes I agree! I have a cane corso pup and he play bites, but it hurts and he's getting bigger by the day. I watched a lot of videos that said to re-direct him but it wasn't very effective. Right now he's just under 6 months old and it seems like we're getting through now with correction. I wish I would have come across this video sooner because so many say to just re-direct, etc.
i have a 12 week old rotty and she’s the most vicious aggressive dog i’ve ever had. she is very intelligent and knows to stop being bad to pull you in and then instantly attack. i have a 7 year old rotty and she’s the kindest and most gentle 100 pound dog out there so this puppy was definitely a shocker. i am trying to get her to stop biting with physical punishments like yelling and hitting it when it does but it angers her even more and makes her attack so i think i’m gonna have to become more strict and aggressive when she tries to attack because soon this will be a very big issue
Don’t hit them back that just excites their brain to be more aggressive, rather just redirect her biting onto a toy whenever she tries to nip you. It takes time and constant correction but they learn
Scruffing them by the neck and holding that position until they visibly calm is one of the best ways to calm an aggressive rottweiler puppy. You could also try to whack them in the butt with a rolled up news paper. Nothing to hard that it could hurt them. Most dog trainers will tell you to redirect with a toy or a treat but that will not work at all if your puppy is really out to hurt you or is snapping at you. With time and consistent corrections they will learn not to do this over a period of months. I had a really aggressive male rottweiler puppy and now he is such a great dog. Never be afraid to correct your puppy as long as you don't physically hurt them or scare them. I hope I helped you out some. Have a great rest of your day 😊
that was some pretty solid advice! Im looking into getting myself a German shepherd sometime now but i have no idea how to raise a dog in general! i hope my experiences end up on a positive note for the most part.
I had two Rott puppies at different times. I trained both puppies when they were playing by a simple higher pitched yelping when they teethed or bit me. They always backed off and immediately learned they they were being too hard for my skin. They key was consistency 100% of the time. I always did this and had others do the same thing. I have trained my German Shepard mix puppy the same way as well as my 3 year old Pitt mix rescue. All four of my dogs, regardless of breed, learned quickly.
My father had a female rottweiler (he had another dog before that it was an Afghan hound) and he hardly trained her but she was so well behaved and she never bit, it was the best dog he had, we have a Bernese mountain dog now but I'm thinking about getting a rottweiler because I saw one at a dog meet and it was as sweet as honey.
Our Rottie puppy liked to mouth alot. What I would do, is I'd gently but firmly put pressure on him to "lay down" with my hand securly but not too tightly on his throat, then I'd growl a bit to make sure he knew who the alpha was. It worked! He stopped mouthing when he was not supposed to.
My GSD Stella was vicious as a puppy. I used to think she was going to be a mean dog. She is still a tough dog, but not mean. Scruffing was not enough to get her to stop biting. I used to have to scruff her into a lay down position onto her back. By the time she hit 5 months the biting stopped. I now have another GSD puppy male from both parents being a working line GSD. He is a breeze at the same age compared to Stella. Not to say he never tries to bite, but nothing like the way Stella was. She would not stop biting no matter what. My current puppy gets a scruff now and then at 10 weeks and he stops biting pretty quickly. He is now starting growl on the tug which is great as I want to train him in protection and Obedience.
With my dog Salem (Rottweiler), when she was younger, I was advised to put her paw in her mouth and have her bite on it. It stopped her biting us from that point.
Thanks for ur advice. I have 3 months old Dober M. and facing same problem. just he is puppy I will not neglect his bad behavior but now I will correct him.
I'm glad I found this video. I have a Catahoula and she's a vicious biter. Draw blood regularly. How do you feel about a squirting water in a dog's face for something like this? I have found that the nape of the neck thing works, but the water thing really works for me. She doesn't like it and it immediately stops this behavior. But is this going to make her afraid of all water? I like to kayak and want her to tag along with me on day trips when she gets older.
Larry help!!! I have that puppy you described and my husband and I have been correcting her and she seems to be getting it little by little but the big issue is we have lots of kids of all ages and I don't know if I need to teach each kid to correct the dog or if the adults need to correct it every time. She will stop when an adult corrects her but as soon as she gets a kid away from us she's at it again with them. The kids are not as dominant obviously so should I just do the correcting every time or teach them to stand up for themselves. Will the kids taking a leader role with the dog make her want to battle even more?

Hi Larry,
I've got a question in regards my 8week old Rottweiler. Is there an email I could possibly email you at?
Thanks
Hi Mr Krohn, can you pls show yours dogs and how you do things with them. I would love to see how your dogs behave etc. I love your videos.
I want to make sure i understood. Just give her (my friends 5 week old) puppy an assertive command of NO. And if anything, twist the scruff of her neck?
My Rottweiler is 5 weeks and is a 4 legged piranha
We have a Rottweiler and she was bad with biting as a puppy, but every lab we had has been like Satan's child with biting.
My Jack Russell was like this haha.
I’m in the same boat
Use your fingers to put pressure on the snout and squeeze a little bit. Make it unpleasant for the dog every time they put their teeth on you. Eventually they come to associate an unpleasant sensation with biting.
its your fault, you took it away from its mother too soon. puppies learn bite inhibition from their siblings and mainly their mum.
Yea its same as kids if nobody is gona discipline or be the bad guy theyll grow up drug addicted bums.

Gotta put them in their place in a way they understand, and that's how their mother would do it.
where did you "bite" him at with your hand?

And he said u better show who’s in charge now or ur in trouble!! I’m taking the advice now!
My Rottie is incredibly smart! She is 8 weeks and knows how to sit, lie down, roll over and shake. But I cannot, to save my life, get her to stop biting! I hope this helps! She’s amazing but she needs to stop the biting
did it work?
My rottweiler puppy it's starting to bite really hard and she's just 7 weeks so thankful for the tip
I’m excited to see how Great he turns out to be.
itachi is now 9 months older how is he doing? love the name by the way
This was so refreshing to watch.
Ralph Rub how long until you notice or see change that he stopped doing it?
Sounds like at 7 weeks is to early to take away from mom
@@chriscarter974 exactly, I got mine at almost 3 months, well balanced too.
This has got to be the best most honest video on dog training on RUclips, thanks for everything you do .....Peace!
You're doing it wrong, probably because you're lazy. Just like this dood's wife. You gotta be serious about training and smarter than the dog.
@@dawnl8743 what happened? I know it’s late but reply pls
Greetings Sir
I am a Canine behaviorist and Trainer from India.. glad to see your video.. and yes I completely agree with you here..
Best regards
i got my rottie about 3 weeks ago hes 10 weeks old a pain lol but i love him.congratulations on your puppy,
Replaying this again - As a 5 time rottie owner - particularly appreciate you underscoring the 'mouthing'...aka biting issue.
Logan
I raised two rottie puppies at the same
Time, and what i did when i saw that behavior was grab a good chunk of their skin behind their head and give it a good squeeze with a firm no.
Oh my god, this is exactly the problem I'm having with mine but not hard really soft but he keeps biting and nipping, he is around 10 weeks..
Anthony Myers thats the dumbest thing Ive ever read
Hierarchy is key among canines and you ignore it at your peril.
cyan tse how hard I pinch
cyan tse ok thanks
Hi sir, this is Adil qureshi from India and i'am a dog trainer here, i use to see your videos every day and that really helpful, Thanks a lot sir.
My Rottie girl just turned 3 months yesterday. She’s very smart and has been fairly easy to train. She can sit, lay down, stay, high five, and knows not to touch her food until told to. She also knows not to go out the door until I go first. But she playfully bites. It’s the only problem I have with her.
Exact same with my 13 wk old male rottie. How long did the playbiting last? Did you do anything special?
Mine cries when a tiny dog barks at him haha
That's the one to watch out for. Insecurity in a rott needs a lot of socializing to compensate.
@@jagdeeshzeitgeist I couldn't agree more with this comment!!! You get this with humans. The more anxious they are the more dangerous they are.
@@aldoperez23 omfg same. And idk what to do
@@andreao8140 so today I was looking back at this vid and what I now do is that I just pin him on his side basically the way he puts himself when I pet him and I just say “No” or “stay” until he stops squirming and he has calmed down more and I can even caress his face without him biting but every so often he does nip when playing or gets distracted by my hand but I tried to do the neck thing and I was grabbing really hard as much as I could and let me tell you, he didn’t even whimper I think he has skin of steel honestly my other method was better and I feel more comfortable not trying to hurt him
I just got my 7 month old Rott, this is my second Rottweiler. My first i had since she was 2 months until she died. This one definitely tries to bite even when i try to correct her behavior.
I like your videos my guy. Seems like you are the only one who keeps it real when it comes to raising a stubborn, yet so intelligent breed such as a rottwielier.
You have no idea how much this video helped me
I needed to hear this.
Hello!! A friend told me about your videos. I have a 9 week old Rottie puppy and I needed this!!! Thank you!!

Raymond Murphy I actually had them tell me them same thing 1 month ago I was such a proud owner:)
Kick in!!

I just got a 7 week old male German Rottweiler and he's already food aggressive and aggressive towards my other puppy. Definitely gonna need training!
Jafar Martin exactly you have to take control otherwise it will get out of hand
Sir you explained so well but would you please post a link or video, to show practically what should be done.

They don't do that.
Hows it going
Im glad I’ve been correcting my puppy my dad has been telling me to wait. Hell no
I actually used to bite my GSD back on the back of the neck, just hard enough to make her yelp- it worked very quickly!
I have a 7 1/2 yr old Rottweiler and tommorrow we are getting a very young puppy (Rottweiler )
I am definitely showing my dad this channel he is just like you with corrections my 7 year old dog was not biting and not wasting inside at age 1 because of doing what you are saying!!!
My Pitbull will be 12yo in May. I hate watching them grow old!
puppy is just like a child discipline and correction from day 1... makes life happy for everyone
Thanks for the help, my Rottweiler is 7 weeks old got her at 6
My puppy is 9 weeks today and a BEAR!
Have a great rest of your day 😊
Thank very much I really needed this for my Rottweiler puppy
that was some pretty solid advice!
When is the book gonna be out ? Lol
Thanks a lot I just got a labrottie puppy and he bites me all the time appreciated the advice 👍🏽
The Adversary did it work?
This is the best advice ever.... Rotties need an assertive and dominant owner to control bad behaviour.
Did you figure something out with the kids? I'm having the same problem with my 8 week old puppy.
