I felt nostalgic...I got so many memories from my Father..a former Northwest pilot, we used to fly so often on a 747.. In the 80´s flying on 1st class was the best. Thanks for posting that video. Best jlm
AirTran, now also dissapeared (bought by SWA) and NWA. Also some US Airways jets which now might be operating for American Airlines :'( Sad to see such airlines go and leave airports with less airlines.
@midwestairlinesinc Thanks so much for pointing that out! N642NW is the ship featured in my NW 747 at Vegas, I erroneously used the titling seen from that clip here. So you can still see N642NW..you just have to jump over to the Vegas departure..
I have no idea, but if I had to place a bet...I'd say to Detroit or back to Minny. Also, I've yet to see a good steady clear shot of a British Airways 747 at PHL!!!
I flew in PHL a few months ago but didnt get a chance to see this.. how lucky some people are.. lol.. Question.. why are US carriers so scared of having 747 planes (or even 77W).. never understood that.. DL has them because of NW, CO has them now because of UA.. any ideas?
so sad that we rarely see 747's at MSP. i flew to tokyo from MSP on the 747 for a good 16 years, so sad that route is flown by the 777. doesn't have anywhere near the charisma. also sad that delta gutted the old NWA cabin. i used to drive past the MSP maintenance hangar for northwest every day to and from work, absolutely loved their bowling shoe livery.
When was this? cause you never see 747's over our skies in Philly anymore..The current tower is being constructed in the background, and it looks like there is a new terminal going up in the background, which could very well date this video to the 90's roughly maybe even earlier? I am trying to date the video through the construction I see in the background, but I am having a hard time finding information on when the construction of these buildings started and was finished. Any insight to this? My in-laws tell me 747's used to fly in and out of Philly all the time. They took one to Hawaii on their Honeymoon in 77. Because I am an aviation geek I am trying to see when that service stopped, why, and if it's ever coming back.
The red/grey/white "Bowling Shoe" livery was THE BEST ever!
NWA was pretty stylish as an airline. Too bad it's gone.
What a BEAUTY! God, how I MISS NORTHWEST AIRLINES!

I love this aircraft and had the pleasure of doing maintenance on it in bay 6 at MSP, for over 8 years

I miss this airframe! I used to fuel her at Alexandria International Airport (KAEX) when she came in for military charters. She is greatly missed!! 😢😢
Totally agree! Great connection I completely understand.

OMG, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL BEAST, I LOVE THE 747.
I remember around 1988 flying a charter out of PHL in the whale; I know we flew to Europe but don't remember what city !! its great getting old (er)
No matter where that big boy went or came from MSP was his home base and maintenance hub. Oh to have the glory days of aviation back in MN.
Hey, someone start a small charter airline with me, and reboot the NWA name. Then let it grow back to the original fleet
Love the old nwa livery
Very nice! Where was it going to? Sad to see the 747s phasing out by US carriers. British Airways still serves Philadelphia with a 747.

That's awesome..I bet you actually worked on all of the -200s at some point huh?
Nice video of an oldie but goodie : )

I can see the crickets are having a really good time. 😃
:'( I miss this airline
Wow. AirTran, U.S. Airways and Northwest, all gone.

When was this video taken?
Bring back the 'Orient'.
What year was the vid taken?:)
Not really out of fear, it just cheaper to operate etops (2 engine) planes.
Since SIA replaced the BIG TOP Jumbo Jets for the coming of the Airbus A380.
It's flies to Osaka
no. just no
iVince905 what do you mean "no. just no"
