Because 10/10 collectibles can be rare straight from the factory, or in this case, straight off the printing press. The cards can still potentially have many defects from the printing process and even the packaging. The term MINT (10/10) in the collecting world is actually very hard to achieve
We're talking O-Pee-Chee here. At the time, their objective was selling bubble gum instead of quality sports cards. In those days, the cards were cut with a wire and little consideration was given to centering, smooth cuts, etc.
Why not buy 3 million lottery tickets There is a" possibility " you could have the winning ticket ... Hey ! I have a mystery bag for sale . It's only 1000$ there is a " possibility" that there is gold in it !! .....or it could be garbage from the kitchen....
Wayne Gretzky was never considered a rookie in the NHL because he played in the WHA the season before otherwise he would have won the Calder instead of Ray Bourque.
@@Statsy10there wont be. Just because its pack fresh, means nothing, opeechees cards were off center and cut poorly back then, be lucky to see a couple 9s
@@thewoundedcrow7846 Yes, they were cut poorly, but 20 (or possibly quite a few more if lucky), is a lot of lottery tickets. I like their chances. Of course, these boxes may just never get opened and then these become Schrödinger's Cat Gretzky rookie cards. 😂
@@Statsy10I’ve opened tons of 80s packs, had cards graded that look flawless still no 10, closest was a 9. It would be sweet if it actually happened, but i doubt it. Buyer would be better off trying to sell the boxes off rather than hope for a 10
What's funny to me is how a card in an unopened package can not be a 10/10.

psa…what a joke
Depends on the level of quality control when they were manufactured
At the time, the cutting of the cards was not great, unlike today. My 1979 set often has offset photos. Offset photos will not get you a 10.

I would drool to have that case. Gimme Gretzky rookie cards!
What would you do with them? lol
@@realemonful I would drool with them
@@AL.BUNDY. Yer a perv?
That news reporter probably wasn't even around when those cards were produced!

True, but really beside the point here.
PSA 10 is not the best, far from it actually
Not so rare now that these have been found.
I know for a fact I put a few Gretzky rookies in my bikes spokes with a clothes peg in 79/80
Sucker.
GI joe cards
Gretzky, Gretzky, Gretzky. No respect for that awesome Mario Lessard card! 😂
Mario was darn near in diapers at that time, lol
@@firebladeclements Lessard. Not Lemieux. He was a Kings goalie of the early 80's.
It's funny you mention the Mario Lessard RC because I have this entire set, but am looking for a better-centered Lessard rookie.
@@firebladeclements Huh? Mario Lemieux was already 14 years old when these cards went on the market.
What could be the condition of the gum?
Prolly Tasteless, an hope a gretzky isn't stuck to one
Stupid questions
These are some horrid questions lol
That's what I was thinking. 😂
Gretzky rookie card - $500 to $1000 😢 PSA 9 😊
Doubt there’ll be one psa 10
20 of them fresh out of the pack. Pretty sure there'll be multiple perfect cards in there.

If you can't find a single perfect card out of perhaps two dozen freshly opened cards, then the grading system itself seems pretty flawed.
I just want the gum.
@canammx125 - Just scrape some from under a desk and chew on it. Bon appetit.
And what are these idiots gonna do with those cards? That would be less satisfying than playing a game of Monopoly lol
