The guy who won the auction has defaulted on his promise to pay and now all parties involved are in court (seller, auction house, winner). @@sonnyleprette7040 Umm yes he did. If you're referring to him playing in the WHA that doesn't mean he didn't have a rookie card. He would still be a rookie in his first NHL season.....
if single mint Gretzky rookies have sold for over 3 Mil $ each before these were added to market . This case supposedly has between 25-30 Gretzky Rookie cards
I wonder how they're going to deliver it. Would the seller hand-deliver it Canada? Are they going to ship it using the Postal Service? I don't think they have insurance cover that much money.
aren't they randomly packed, so there is chance they find no Wayne Gretzky card? Who ever bought it, please stream unboxing live!!!! Millions would watch it!
Ya. Trading, collector's, limited edition, and photo cards (or whatever you want to call them) are randomly packed. Depending on how it is packed, some might have an extra or 1 less (especially might be packed by hand)
Firstly, the 1979 draft was super deep, one of the best of all times. And secondly, this was the first year of the WHA-NHL merger, so there are other great hall of famers listed as "rookies." So it's safe to say that the Gretzky rookie card is probably not the only one of value in there.
@@TMLJunKyou have no idea what you are talking about. The 79 draft rookies are in the 1981 release , the following year. You have a last yr Howe, Dryden and Hull and that's it. No expensive other rookies.
the odds of that are VERY high and VERY, VERY possible. The smart person will sell each sub-box out of the case....and never open any of them. Better a bird in the hand, then possibly two in the bush.....
🏒🏒Some of Gretzkys NHL records are slowly getting broken including one of his top 3 which in my opinion diminishes the value of his rookie card. If they are smart they'd open it up and say sorry just got 1. Grade it and sell it, next year sell another. Never tell them you got 10 of them you'd be screwing yourself. It certainly can be done smartly.

That person must have a store owner. In that time, people would bought hockey card packages from their corner store. The average person would not buy a big box like that..
$156 for the case in 1979. I bought 3 ungraded RCs (Schmidt, Rose, Carlton) for that much in 1980 and I was 13 and working as a busboy. That ain't a lot of money for an entire case. My dad and I had this Gretzky card and unfortunately he sold it in the mid 90s to buy coins. He regretted that decision until the day he passed away in 2022.

At the time, the collector paid roughly $150 dollars for the case. Wow.
That means they were not poor. $150.00 in the year 1980 would be like $750.00 in today’s dollars.
Holy crap! What a score!
O-pee-chee. Not Score. They came later. 😉

a lot lol. existing gretzy rookie cards reduced in value now.
None. I doubt people are cracking boxes but even if they did the odds of them even pulling 8s is pretty rare. Most of those cards are probably psa 5s
if those gretzky rookie cards get sold/graded, reduces the value of the other existing out there.

Other than a select few cards they are not worth the paper they are printed on.
VERY few select cards...... most are birdcage liner material.....
