@@greenD7244 It's pretty clunky and fails as a game mode because it never once teaches the player how to do it properly. I've gone through and tried to figure out how this game's physics work in detail in the past, so I think I might be able to explain a few things about Big's strange interactions with springs, ramps, and dash panels. It might be a little long-winded, though... The reason springs don't send Big very far is that he has the highest gravity of any character, and the springs in every level are given launch speeds with the character playing that level in mind. This is also why springs launch Amy so much farther, her gravity is half of Sonic's and less than a third of Big's. Dash panels set your speed to a value that's set for every dash panel, as well as lock your ability to control your movment for a certain number of frames. It's as if you're not using the control stick at all, you're just at the mercy of your character's deceleration. Big loses speed significantly faster than any other character, which is a problem with dash panels, but not the main problem. The main problem with dash panels is the same as the problem with the ramps. Horizontal speed and vertical speed are both capped in Sonic Adventure. For all characters except Big, these caps are much faster than any character can naturally move. Big's horizontal speed cap is only slightly faster than Sonic can run on his own, less than a third of any other character's, which means he goes basically nowhere when launched by a dash panel or ramp. His vertical speed cap is also half of everyone else's, which means that springs that are supposed to send you really far really fast don't. That's probably what happened in the sky section of windy valley, Big's speed was capped at a lower speed than what the spring sends you at. On top of all this... While running on flat ground, Big is slightly faster than Amy. Big, however, appears to be somewhat aggressively designed to be anti-momentum, and he's the only outlier in that regard. Everyone else can gain extra speed and keeps that speed so much better. Even something as simple as jumping gives Amy the edge over Big, since she has more time to build a bit of extra speed in the air and keeps that speed so much better than him. Big's physics are so weird in this game compared to everyone else. I'm not sure exactly what's going on with the springs and how you're affecting them with your controls. I didn't look into that much. That's very strange... I know spring launches affect your gravity direction, but I honestly don't know how that works. It's interesting to see that the scoop things in Speed Highway are actually based on your movement speed when you enter them. Because of dash panels, that's not normally something I'd consider or think about, but Big's speed cap and deceleration means you have to find another way. His horizontal movement in the air is thankfully the same as everyone else's apart from his low speed cap. That was pretty cool! That was not the stage I was expecting to be totally possible with Big. The thing with the wall panels in Lost World is interesting. My guess is that the panels work based on the character's position, a single point in 3D space, and Big's hitbox is just too big and pushes him far enough away from the wall that they don't work. You can see a LOT of interesting things about how the game works here. Very cool! I'm excited for part 2!

30:30 Best guess is that the game is checking the character's position to make sure you're "in" the roller coaster car, but because Big's model is bigger, he doesn't get low enough. So basically, it's like... "Is he in the car yet?" "No, he's just barely above it." "Alright, I'll wait." *Switches to Sonic* "OK, he fell those last few units." "Start roller coaster sequence!"

I find it easy to aim down-right when I hit the spring then readjust while I'm stuck. You want to aim for the small island with grass on top of it, you can see it from that POV bottom left of where you're supposed to land, and with good angles, you can get there just fine. I've managed to get there 6 times, 3 times in a row so far

9:20 btw, that pulling force only happens on DX. It's probably a glitch, cuz it happens to Sonic as well - but you're usually so fast that you're not affected as much by it. But you can see a ton of first-timers playing Emerald Coast and dying on that same spot because of the pull.
Pause at 20:50 Those two objects in the lobby are why Big and some of the other cast can't open the door to the pool. It's part of an unused "puzzle" where specifically Big places both objects/keys into the little slots near the pool doorway to unlock it. ruclips.net/video/xxKAGn6uVng/видео.html gives some background first, then at 15:35 the puzzle is explained.
58:44 I think this section uses a character door because that large chamber is the same space where Knuckles treasure hunts, so they want to keep him in. Other times where Knuckles and Sonic share a level their areas are separated by loading zones (Speed Highway), their levels are actually different maps (Red Mountain), or it's just one big shared area (the casino)
I wonder if giving Big his flotation belt would function normally in other character's stages. Something like Emerald Coast might even be fully possible with Big, since you could presumably float around most of the stage. Might be something neat to try out in time trials, at least.
38:38 It's not because Big can't get on the snowboard. Amy can't get on it either but the cutscene ended like normal. I guess it has something to do with Big's bigger collision box, so when he went onto the snowboard, the avalanche kicked him off before the game registered him on the snowboard
23:05 "springs behave differently depending on what you do" I learned that in the DX mission as sonic where it puts springs that bounce you around the snake room in lost world. if you touch the control stick while you're bouncing, you miss the goal.
Eggman: "Well, if it isn't my pal Sonic! I'm surprised you made it this f--OW! What the--what is that?!" Big the cat, whacking Eggman with a fishing rod: "IT'S NOT NICE TO TEASE MY FRIENDS"
They do actually have different physics and speed caps in the carts in Twinkle Park. If my memory is correct, the speed from best to worst is Knux > Sonic > Big > Tails > Gamma > Amy
Did anyone else notice at 35:30 that even though the in-game counter listed his rings as 999, the ring shaker counter showed 1009? I just thought it was neat that it still technically counted more than the counter showed
Just so you know, certain character-swap mods sometimes cause crashes. It may not be Big himself causing the crash, but the action button being used during the swap. Check different mods for comparison, just to be sure. Hope this helps. Also, subscribed due to your amazing gamingsins vids! ❤️
You can actually do the Orca section of Emerald Coast as Amy but it requires hammer jumping over certain parts to avoid triggering it. It's very tricky to do but can be done. The Orca you see only spawns when you run over a certain trigger. There's more than one on the bridge. It's the second trigger that's tricky with Amy.
you actually can get past the orca section with amy! it’s just SUPER difficult and requires precise movement. i died like a million times trying to get her past that section haha
The RUclipsr Dreed also tried this challenge, and he seemed to be able to do the very last jump in Casinopolis. That makes it two Action Stages you can beat in Sonic's story with Big.
Huh, Big doesn't have a ball animation in the pinball... Does that mean there's a way for him to ignore the automatic section where you try to give the IDEYA to NiGHTS, and explore this part of the stage freely?

21:00 actually, there is an unused key-thing similar to what happens twice in amys story. you have to place it and then big can go through. by the time in his story when he has access to the area, the story already set the flag. that is why sonic can go through, but big cannot. I did not know that the other characters cannot go through there either. Possibly, it works like that for them too.
I know this vid is old by this point, but I like the continuity between the game and the video. Both have audio balancing issues that I can’t hear voices over
All the cool mechanics and programming they did to make sure that each characters has their own physics, certain character's influencing different character's stories, how springs work, all of that is just pretty interesting to be honest.
This is a dream come true Edit: Try swapping Big with Gamma for the tree glitch because he is the biggest character other than Big to see if it is size or character dependent
I'm sure I'm probably alone in this, but I'd be interested to see Tails because I always felt like the game babies Tails - especially since all he really does is get shorter Sonic stages - and I feel like he's a lot more capable than the game acts like he is. I'd be curious how flying around levels Tails was never meant to be in would work. But I understand its probably not what most people are into.
24:10 That's actually E102's path through the stage. With Sonic there's a wall which you can clip through to get on that path. It wouldn't help Big much sadly.
Can’t you get the power up that lets you float on water, then go back to Emerald Coast and see if you can beat the level by swimming through parts that you can’t navigate normally? The whole stage is surrounded by water.
characters definitely have different weights and acceleration caps and whatnot, I think MainMemory has a series of videos replacing character's physics with those of other characters (and sometimes even from other games like SA2B and Heroes) and it actually really does futz with how the game works even though you're still playing as Sonic technically.
These things are interesting to watch as a dev doing a speed based game with different different incline thresholds and mass per character lol. For Big they likely had it so inclines above 45 degrees locked off momentum or otherwise unless it's a in root animation like a loopty loop or special box trigger zones(for loopty loops I increase the magnetism instead of an animation). Collision is the hardest to keep track off so leaving one ramp with the outer collision that normally is the trigger to speed up, to instead block one character could happen pretty easily.
I'm just halfway through the video, so I might add on something, but I have two things to say atm. First: I'm so not used to hearing your (I assume) unscripted thoughts, which is really nice, I like listening to you that way. Second: Man, this video makes me realize, that SA probably has one of the best overworld designs for a 3D platformer. At least in how the levels are presented in the world map I really like it, it feels organic. It has a couple of issues here and there (like the entrances where you have to find stones, which makes like no sense) but man, it make me wish SA2 had had an overworld like that :/
I love how this is like a hour long video answering a truly trivial question while also giving away the answer in the thumbnail its like "well there you go, nobody needed to know but now you do!"
Wild guess with zero knowledge of the game engine: Could it be that Big's action command looks for water flagged as 'fishable' and so wasn't meant to be used in stages without it, and then some part of the mod that was meant to rectify that got broken somehow? ...also Amy's version of Egg Viper kinda looks more fun than Sonic's, if it weren't so finicky.
I wanna see a mod for this game that gives Big the physics for the areas he cannot clear and then have a Big the Cat in Sonic's stages be a speedrun category for this game.
This was the first video game I ever played, and these videos reminded me how much I love the game! You inspired me to try and go back to get all 130 emblems for the very first time (I’m at 117 emblems as of today!)
Bosses weren't hard originally apart from a couple. Having the ability to challenge them with any character would have been neat in the original game. Plus Big gets to fight Chaos 6, but the Sonic fight as Big looks a thousand times more interesting than 1 hit KOing him by snipig Froggy
WAIT so you're telling me, if they found a way to hit that big ass hit box for the inside of the tornado and died without doing the spinning animation, theres a potential timesave?
I have watched these challenge videos a few times already, and I haven't ever played a Sonic game in my life. I am seriously tempted to play Sonic Adventure as my first Sonic game now. Edit: OK, I bought this game, thanks to this video.
the stories interacting is what I think as I also used an older version of the similar cheat and lets say I would be in Sonic's story as big it would load Big's Emerald Coast anyways..
Maybe it'd be beneficial to have a tally on screen of how many times you absolutely cannot do something with Big, rather than just having the challenge be a yes/no thing?
I wonder if Amy was coded as being lighter then the other characters was due to her hammer jump move. Like, if it just didn't work properly with her having the same weight as Sonic, Tails, & Knuckles? IDK, just a random thought I had.
I know this video is about 2 years old, but I might just try to answer your call for help. Hopefully my stupid brain doesn't throw this idea out the window when I'm awake tomorrow...
I don't know if it's possible, but my suggestion for the part at 49:30 is this: You might be able to bring the shield powerup from 49:20 by walking past it to the island at 49:26. Then turn around and use the fishing rod to snipe it from afar (sadly, you would have to be able to use the B Button without the game crashing) Maybe the extra hit is enough to make it across the lava without dying.

9:20 btw, that pulling force only happens on DX. It's probably a glitch, cuz it happens to Sonic as well - but you're usually so fast that you're not affected as much by it. But you can see a ton of first-timers playing Emerald Coast and dying on that same spot because of the pull.
Pause at 20:50
Those two objects in the lobby are why Big and some of the other cast can't open the door to the pool. It's part of an unused "puzzle" where specifically Big places both objects/keys into the little slots near the pool doorway to unlock it.
ruclips.net/video/xxKAGn6uVng/видео.html gives some background first, then at 15:35 the puzzle is explained.
I admit, the "Thumbnail implies pain" route is really good when it's not just someone posing looking annoyed
Big the Cat: Can outrun an orca
Also Big: Can't go up ramps
58:44 I think this section uses a character door because that large chamber is the same space where Knuckles treasure hunts, so they want to keep him in. Other times where Knuckles and Sonic share a level their areas are separated by loading zones (Speed Highway), their levels are actually different maps (Red Mountain), or it's just one big shared area (the casino)
I wonder if giving Big his flotation belt would function normally in other character's stages. Something like Emerald Coast might even be fully possible with Big, since you could presumably float around most of the stage. Might be something neat to try out in time trials, at least.
I doubt Emerald Coast has functional, normal water.
Big just falling through that whole section in Speed Highway feels so in character for him.
I don't know why, but the fact that as Big you get to beat the living shit out of Chaos with a fishing rod makes me laugh hysterically :'D

What the--what is that?!"
Big the cat, whacking Eggman with a fishing rod: "IT'S NOT NICE TO TEASE MY FRIENDS"
They do actually have different physics and speed caps in the carts in Twinkle Park. If my memory is correct, the speed from best to worst is
Knux > Sonic > Big > Tails > Gamma > Amy
honestly I didn't even know you could do twinkle circuit with gamma since you never go there as gamma but I guess looking back it makes sense
Really? Knux is faster in the cart?
Sounds accurate.
oh cool its justlemres
22:55 everybody gangster until big starts walking on air
_ Dyldo _ 17:45 too
Did anyone else notice at 35:30 that even though the in-game counter listed his rings as 999, the ring shaker counter showed 1009?
Big: speed is not my strong point
Speed highway: suffer
Big: not today old friend
The RUclipsr Dreed also tried this challenge, and he seemed to be able to do the very last jump in Casinopolis. That makes it two Action Stages you can beat in Sonic's story with Big.
This video is just a video I cant stop coming back to
Huh, Big doesn't have a ball animation in the pinball...
Does that mean there's a way for him to ignore the automatic section where you try to give the IDEYA to NiGHTS, and explore this part of the stage freely?
Other people: Can you beat Blank without jumping, getting points, collecting Coins/Rings, going left or right.
Charriii5: Can you beat Sonic Adventure as Big The Cat?
*ASKING THE REAL QUESTIONS HERE!?*

59:26: Pretty much this entire challenge in a nutshell for you.
The jump towards the end of Emerald Coast is possible with Big. You need to jump on the side post with enough momentum from the top of the slope 13:35
"It's not that bad ... except for the few instances where you die"
That being in the same sentence made me smile XD
You know, I love how the title asks if it’s possible, and the thumbnail just straight up answers it no

Oh wait...
Big needs his own game. *Change my mind.*
Why change your mind when it's just a stupid idea that will never happen change my mind

Edit: Try swapping Big with Gamma for the tree glitch because he is the biggest character other than Big to see if it is size or character dependent
The thumbnail is like the inverse of click bait. I really appreciate that.
Wouldn't it be better to have all the upgrades for big for this? Like wouldn't you be able to just swim in the deep water with the life ring?
I'm sure I'm probably alone in this, but I'd be interested to see Tails because I always felt like the game babies Tails - especially since all he really does is get shorter Sonic stages - and I feel like he's a lot more capable than the game acts like he is. I'd be curious how flying around levels Tails was never meant to be in would work. But I understand its probably not what most people are into.
🤔
24:10 That's actually E102's path through the stage. With Sonic there's a wall which you can clip through to get on that path. It wouldn't help Big much sadly.
So, if we remade adventure, how would we tackle big?
Do we make him into a platforming character? Or try to make his fishing FUN?
Can’t you get the power up that lets you float on water, then go back to Emerald Coast and see if you can beat the level by swimming through parts that you can’t navigate normally? The whole stage is surrounded by water.
characters definitely have different weights and acceleration caps and whatnot, I think MainMemory has a series of videos replacing character's physics with those of other characters (and sometimes even from other games like SA2B and Heroes) and it actually really does futz with how the game works even though you're still playing as Sonic technically.
Please make more of these! This video kind of reminds me of what Nathaniel Bandy does
This is the type of content I need in my life to keep me going
Lost world could be done with Big's float power-up and could change a little bit, don't you think so?
36:10 Two Tails!
That's two capital T Tails, not to be confused with Tail's tails~
These things are interesting to watch as a dev doing a speed based game with different different incline thresholds and mass per character lol. For Big they likely had it so inclines above 45 degrees locked off momentum or otherwise unless it's a in root animation like a loopty loop or special box trigger zones(for loopty loops I increase the magnetism instead of an animation). Collision is the hardest to keep track off so leaving one ramp with the outer collision that normally is the trigger to speed up, to instead block one character could happen pretty easily.
When you giggle it's honestly really wonderful
I love how Tails Is big's Buddy now
I have enough trouble with Big's intended stages. What is this madness.
It has a couple of issues here and there (like the entrances where you have to find stones, which makes like no sense) but man, it make me wish SA2 had had an overworld like that :/
I love how this is like a hour long video answering a truly trivial question while also giving away the answer in the thumbnail
its like "well there you go, nobody needed to know but now you do!"
I honestly really love this, I would adore getting more videos like this in the future.
I love how the thumbnail just straight up answers it
I wanna see a mod for this game that gives Big the physics for the areas he cannot clear and then have a Big the Cat in Sonic's stages be a speedrun category for this game.
This was the first video game I ever played, and these videos reminded me how much I love the game! You inspired me to try and go back to get all 130 emblems for the very first time (I’m at 117 emblems as of today!)
You ever get em all?
Bosses weren't hard originally apart from a couple.
Having the ability to challenge them with any character would have been neat in the original game.
Plus Big gets to fight Chaos 6, but the Sonic fight as Big looks a thousand times more interesting than 1 hit KOing him by snipig Froggy
the reason there are two tails is because one of them is the standard level P2 tails and the other is a seprate character tails for cutscenes
30:30 never knew big had jiggly ear physics
the stories interacting is what I think as I also used an older version of the similar cheat and lets say I would be in Sonic's story as big it would load Big's Emerald Coast anyways..
I find it overly ironic that even BIG can clear something with a name such as "Speed Highway"
@46:20-.-Let’s take a moment to appreciate the irony of *_SPEED_* highway being fully computable with big the cat.
Obviously the most underrated character of all time
Imagine looking for the Master Emerald pieces as Big The F@cking Cat.
it's coming in part 2 so we don't have to imagine it~
SA1 Sonic levels: Impossible as Big
SA1 Speed Highway: Somehow fucking possible as Big
I don't know if it's possible, but my suggestion for the part at 49:30 is this:
You might be able to bring the shield powerup from 49:20 by walking past it to the island at 49:26.
Then turn around and use the fishing rod to snipe it from afar (sadly, you would have to be able to use the B Button without the game crashing)
Maybe the extra hit is enough to make it across the lava without dying.
Been waiting 20 years for this
I like that I basically just did a challenge stream like this with Amy lol
