The legends come custom also they put the light duty shock in for you if you ask for it . BOTH companies have very good shocks you cant go wrong with either.nice video
Öhlins is definite high quality, I had them on my 2011 Road King. But having to remove both saddlebags to adjust for a passenger really bored me. On my present Road Glide CVO I switched to Wilbers LDC. At least same ride quality a Öhlins, but self adjusting for changing weights. By the way, nice bike. Enjoy your new suspension and always safe rides
I just don't see how legends could even remotely compete with ohlins background and reputation in any form of 2 wheel performance. Anyone coming from offroad and motocross knows ohlins is top of the heap
Was trying to get some Ohlins, Got on a Road Glide Forum, Smarty was recommended , he himself also recommended him and Ohlins, he gave me his number......called, he answered was busy, was gonna call me back in ten minutes promised a call, didnt happen. Wrote several emails, AND left voicemail at Ohlins for two months, apparently Covid got to them so much that NO ONE responded in anyway shape or form. Kinda scary spending that kind of money on shocks for a bike and having that kind of customer service, I mean, I was TRYING to give them my money, cant imagine what would happen if I actually had an issue to resolve.
Sorry to hear you had a tough time. I know Carol was at Sturgis, so I’m sure he was busy. Try him again. Also, I know Big Bear Performance does Ohlins suspension.
I have a 2020 CVO and not really sure what length the OEM a shocks are. Measuring them on the bike unladen they measure 12” bolt to bolt. So not sure if they means they are 12” or 13” because of the natural sag. I’m interested in getting ohlins just don’t want to raise the bike up and make it look weird if I can help it. 772 do sound the right choice however.
Stock shocks don't sag much with just the weight of the bike, so I'm pretty sure you have the 12". I have the 13" on mine and it's really hard to see any difference. Depends on what is more important to you, looks or performance/comfort. The 13" will definitely ride and perform better. Give an Ohlins dealer a call. They may have some options for you, maybe some remote reservoirs could get you the travel of a 13" in a 12" shock.
I love my Legend Rivo-A's on my 19 Ultra. I'm 200lbs and obviously the Ultra is heavier and it is smooth as a bastid and way better than stock of course. With you being light on a lighter bike, that may just be the right combo for you.
I currently have a 07 flhtc. I've really been considering both. I weigh 280. Rode solo mostly. But need a quality shock when the wife wants to go for a ride. She's around the same weight
I am planning on doing the front forks. I can really see how badly they are needed in the front, now that I have the rears done. I'll try to do another video of those once I get them. I'm being careful with spending money right now because of this pandemic and the economy, so it might be a little while.
@@apgapcruiser2687 I had the same revelation. Once I put Ohlins on the rear I found out how bad the front was. Have a date with Smarty in March to fix that.
Do you know Wilbers? This is the best suspension I guess. No adjustments needed if you have a passenger or backpacks on your bike since the suspension is able to do a selfadjustment related to the „new“ weight
I haven't tried them before, but from looking at the specs online, it looks like the shocks for the Road Glide are not self adjusting. Maybe for other bikes they are. Also, it looks like they are adjustable with a hook wrench which are always a sure way to get your knuckles busted and scratch your bike. Have you tried them before? How do they ride?
You mentioned being loaded with bags and passenger for long trips, and the Legends handled great over bumps. Did the Ohlins do as well or better with the same weight?
Both shocks have a sweet spot where they perform the best. The Legends seemed to ride slightly better than the Ohlins when I had me(150lbs), my wife (130lbs) and about 20-30lbs of luggage. Any less than that and they rode a little harsh. But that being said, I intentionally set up my Ohlins to provide the best ride when it was only me on the bike because that's how I ride most of the time. Both still ride very well when all loaded up, but if I had to pick one for loaded weight, it would be the Legends. If I set my Ohlins up to ride perfectly at our loaded weight, I'm sure they would be superior. Just my opinion.
Ski it if you can 🥵 Living in NH, I skied Jay Peak, Stowe,Killington,Okemo but never Mad River. Still have my stock suspension on my Road Glide Ultra but your review helps me decide when I’m ready
So weather ya go Ohlins or Legends your doing way better than stock? I weigh 200lbs and my wife who usually rides with me weighs 150 I just got the legends revo A's. Did I make a mistake?
Yes, both are night and day difference from stock suspension. I don’t think you made a mistake. Both are really good. You’re heavier than me, so you are more in the sweet spot with the Legends. They should be great for you.
That is the stock seat, modified by Mean City Cycles. I have an older video specifically on that seat. I got the double decker foam mod and the double cross stitch pattern. It's very comfortable and doesn't look all big and bulky. It was cheaper than most aftermarket seats too.
Proaction (13") did not work for me as I'm light weight (140 LBS). I'm guessing it wont for this guy as well, he's only 10lbs heavier than me. George at Proaction installed springs for my weight but it was still harsh, they were better than 12" Legends I had before. Sent those back and now I have RWD. RWD has been little better than Proaction. I like the compression in RWD but rebound is harsh for my liking. Plan to install Ohlins front cartridge and see how it goes. Honestly no matter what suspension I put, it will never be as plush as Indian Chieftain I had. Harley definitely needs to go to mono shock that has minimum 5" of travel like Indian has. My RWD has 4" of travel but it's still not as close to plush ride I want.
I would say that it depends on the type of riding you do and the condition of the roads you ride. I spent under $1000 for my Ohlins. It is a big improvement over stock and makes a nicer ride, but there is no replacement for travel. Other model motorcycles have a lot more travel.
I feel your pain. In the town I live, we have more dirt than pavement. I think if you plan on riding dirt most of the time, something other than a Harley would be worth a look.
In my opinion, you really can't go wrong either way if you are in the 170-250lbs weight range. Both are great quality, but I feel that Ohlins has an edge because they are slightly cheaper, and they can be dialed in much more than the Legend Suspension. The valving, coil, preload, rebound and compression can all be customized depending on the shock you buy. Legend doesn't have as many options when it comes to those settings. Also, Legend doesn't say anything about being serviced on any type of regular interval. It's my personal opinion that in order to perform well, any shock for any vehicle should be serviced at some point. Ohlins has a recommended regular service interval.
Yes, I would. There is a reason that most riders in moto gp have Ohlins. Ohlins would be able to get a setup for you that is just right for your weight. Talk with Carol Burke (aka Suspended by Smarty). He's been doing Ohlins for a long time. He could explain to you what he would recommend specifically and how it would feel for you. This is his info: facebook.com/OhlinsbySmarty/
@@apgapcruiser2687 Thanks! But I have a dealership here close to me in Charlotte NC. They are in hendersonville NC. I'll call them sometime before spring and maybe go up for a visit.
Yes, they are adjustable, but it wasn't enough to get me the ride I was looking for. I even called and talked to Legend looking for better options and they sold me I had the best setup for what I was looking for. Ohlins had more options and was able to tailor the shock to me better. They are both really good, I just found Ohlins worked better because of my weight.
Legends front and back on my 2018 FLTRU...amazing, love them

I agree!! I come from a motocross background, and always knew Ohlins is the sh*t!!:)
The key to performance handling is what you put up front.
X2!
There are two ends to a suspension. What about the front?
I was not sure if I could trust your advice... but then I saw the chain-drive wallet, and realized you were the real deal
Haha. That’s what makes a real biker!

I've never had a problem getting Smarty to return phone calls. He does ride a lot and may be out in the boonies with no signal.
Thanks for the video brother.
For the money on my 2 Dynas i put Drag Specialities Heavy Duty Shocks and it improved my handling and riding

I think the Ohlins are the best performing out of the two.
What did you decide on?
I'm on the fence
Did you, or are you considering their front fork options?

ApGap Cruiser you have to look for the Nivomat. That’s the selfadjusting model. I ordered it, can you tell more in a month.
