    These are the videos I missed. I used your trick for jap Beatles and it works great. Then I looked and noticed you haven’t uploaded in a good bit. I’m glad your doing it again. Ever since your old old videos about big beef, I’ve always remembered those tomatoes.

In fact they r what drove me away from dirt gardening and I built a small greenhouse and using your videos grow some great maters, beans, peppers, greens, and many other plants, so Thanks so much Bobby for all your help throughout the years!!!! And so glad you are back, and yes we’ll miss Donald.... Only thing I can’t seem to get to work in my greenhouse is squash!!! • @mhpgardener
      @mhpgardener  5 лет назад

      Thanks. Not sure, but I'm thinking your problem with squash could be pollination ? I can get squash to grow, but it needs to be on the outside wall with the plastic rolled up. Otherwise I use a parthenocarpic variety that doesn't require bees for pollination. Bobby

    Thank you for posting another hydroponic video! I started learning about hydroponic gardening with your videos. I use your Masterblend based three part dry mix for nutrients. I add the three part mix to reverse osmosis water that is cleaned up to 8 PPM. I then set the ph to 6. It helps to heat a glass of water in the microwave oven, and dissolve the calcium nitrate with hot water.
    The Kratky hydroponic method works. But adding air to the nutrient improves the growth performance. Maybe you could do a video to compare the results with and without adding air stones and an air pump. I think you’d be impressed with the growth performance increase you get when you add air to the hydroponic nutrient.
    I’ve been waiting for a long time, hoping that you’d start creating videos again. Thanks again for your videos!

    Nobody would know the Kratky method if you didn't bring it back into the light on RUclips. Also the Masterblend that so many people use is because of you. I don't know where our other friends are. Dale, Brock, Larry. Chuck is busy and busy and still around.

      Haven't seen anything from Brock in years. Last message from Dale was this past Christmas. I don't think Larry is doing anything either. And yes, Chuck has his hands full. Are you considering using nematicides? Non fumigant products like Nimitz, Velum and Vydate can be drenched through the drip while products like Majestene, Dazitol and Nemakill are good biological options! Certain cover crops work really good at reducing populations, could be a good option around your totes. A nematologist glad to help if needed!

      I'm using Azagard in a soil drench. I did a second application today by spraying the surface thoroughly, tilling it in with the roto tiller, then flooding the entire greenhouse. The hard part about this is the fact that I have no idea if it works until I put some plants into the ground next Spring. Bobby

    Root knot nematodes is the reason why I moved out of Florida. It's responsible for the biggest lost of crop than any other factors. There is no effective way I know of to remove them except to conjure snow to freeze the soil. All the other methods are just deterrents with minimal effectiveness. I'll be interested to see if the product you bought will help.

    • @mhpgardener
      @mhpgardener  5 лет назад

      We had a very mild winter, which meant soil temps in the greenhouse probably were not low enough to kill off any nematodes that may have been present or leftover from last year. Plus, I left some tomatoes and peppers in the ground thru the winter, rather than removing them at the end of the season. I won't make that mistake again. I did another Azagard spraying today, then tilled it in before flooding the entire greenhouse. I think that will do the trick. Bobby

      Food Grade Diatomaceous earth (DE) will eliminate spider mites. I don't remember if you tried DE or not. I found the best way to apply DE is with a fine strainer, shaking it back and forth applying a very fine layer of DE on the leaves and around the base of the plant on the soil. Warning: DE is harmless, but don't breathe DE for it will hurt your lungs.

    There is another method for dealing with the greenhouse soil. Like the ancients with their steam-powered tractors, they used the steam exhaust when tilling and discing, and steam sterilizing the soil. The only modern way is to get in there with a small rototiller (and get gassed as well - keep the doorways and airflow moving). Rototill the soil, buried down to the axle, and slowwwwly moving the tiller until you make soft and fluffy soil. Do the entire soil. Then getting a pressure steam washer generator and go into the greenhouse, and put the (active) steamer pressure tip into the soil as deep as the rototilled soil bedrock. Hold the hose under the soil for each 3-4 inch distance x 3-4 inch distance apart (long work steaming the entire soil), but it will sterilize all bugs, larvae, worms, nematodes, bacteria, germs, soil virus blights etc, volunteer seeds. This process will sterilize the soil, and re-provide you with perfect soil for growing clean and safe vegs/herbs. The ancestors (before chemical and petro-chemical pesticides, insecticides, bactericides, germicides, ...) were smarter than us. Steam sterilize your soil, and you won't have the number of soil blight, leaf curl, etc, .... ....

      I don't have a steamer, but you did give me an idea. The Azagard needs to get down about a foot into the soil, not easily done on hard dry ground, which is what a lot of it was. So a couple hours ago I did another spraying, then tilled it in, before completely flooding the ground. Thanks for the suggestion, Bobby

    Hey Bobby have you thought about planting a cover crop of mustard to get rid of those nematodes I think they call it Caliente mustard it's hotter and it really good at getting rid of nematodes

    • @mhpgardener
      @mhpgardener  5 лет назад +1

      Actually, I haven't. Once the plants freeze, I've been letting that mark the end of the season. I guess I could plant something in there to help with nematodes, and build the soil at the same time. Bobby

    Hi, so glad your back. I'm about done building my shade house and have all of my dutch buckets in place. Could you please tell me about how many buckets with tomatoes a 5 gallon bucket of master blend fertilizer will feed

    • @mhpgardener
      @mhpgardener  5 лет назад

      Need more info.... are you trying to use a 5gal reservoir? Or just wondering how many buckets can be fed at one time with 5 gal of mix?

    • @davidmyers7048
      @davidmyers7048 5 лет назад

      I'm wondering how many buckets can be fed at one time with 5 gallons of mix. I'm trying to size my reservoir. I am guessing around 4 gallons per bucket but I'm not basing that guess on anything other than a guess. Thank you so much for replying to my post, it is much appreciated

    • @mhpgardener
      @mhpgardener  5 лет назад

      In terms of reservoir size, bigger is better. You'll find that as the plants grow, it takes more of the solution each day to maintain them. I think you're good with a 1:1 ratio of buckets to gallon of reservoir. Worst case, you have to top off the reservoir more often. Best case, you're good to go for 3-5 days. Again, once the roots get to the bottom of the buckets, they'll consume more solution each day. So adjust accordingly. Bobby

    nematodes hate mustard greens. i grow them in the fall then till them in in the spring .It helps but after a couple of months the nematodes come back ,just in time to stress the plants when it gets hot. Nematodes and Purslane grass has taken all the fun out of my garden.

  • @MichaelMantion
    @MichaelMantion 5 лет назад +1

    nematodes are attracted to acidic root tips. They like 5.4 to 4.5 ph. If you get nematodes again you can water the plant roots with backing soda or some other base. then you can water away from the roots with an acid, Muriatic acid. the nematodes will drift away from the tomatoes. Tomatoes tend to like slightly acidic soil 6-7ph. My guess is your soil PH is too high. Add some lime and epsom salt to your soil. While your at it add some activated biochar. MAKE SURE YOU ACTIVATE IT first. It's easier to make soil more acidic. So aim closer to 7.0 PH and then add acid (dolomite or muriatic) . Obviously you can test your soil first if you want or but guessing and checking is more fun.

      Marigolds and a few others are great to plant all around. Some plants they don't like, and some plants bring in the bugs that destroy them, and other bettles can run them off. Try planting Amaranth also.
