I recently researched these two machines and was leaning toward the Singer until I read many comments that the Singer would start stitching at a high speed and there’s no way to control it. There’s even a video about how to open your foot pedal to make adjustments and fix the problem. This one defect is what made me purchase the Brother, which arrives next week. I can’t wait!
@@John-jw7xg it broke after a week and I sent it back. I’m looking at a Babylock Jubilant now to be purchased from a local dealer. It’s more money, but very highly rated.
Very good comparison. May I point out that the presser foot pressure isn't the foot pedal as shown in the video. It is adjusted on the top of the machine (on the 4423 you use a metal tool to turn a plastic "screw" to loosen or tighten the tension of the presser foot on the fabric). Thank you for preparing this as it really helps to see what features may be of interest to prospective consumers.

I need your help to decide between singer 3505 and brother gs 2700. I have seen the singer 3505 demo and stitch quality is wonderful. I haven't seen brother machines as they are not in local markets right now. Expected in a months time. I like that singer 3505 has blanket stitch that I may use for applique. Brother doesn't have it. Brother has top loading bobbin vs singer having front load bobbin. Brother speed is 860spm while singer is 750 spm. I am a beginner . Please suggest which one of the two should I buy. If you had to choose between front loading vs top loading bobbin, which one will you choose? Thanks!
We suggest you get a Singer 3505 since this is beginner friendly. Another thing is the front-loading bobbin holds more thread than the top loading one since its materials are made from metal bobbins. Front loading bobbin is also more convenient than the top loading one since you can reload the new bobbin without removing what you're working on. Still it depends on what kind of sewing you do most. Eeek. Before you make your decision based on this video, make sure you talk to a sewing machine mechanic and see which one of these breaks down more… also, singer isn’t even singer anymore.

Singer also offers a free-arm function while Brother offers utility, reverse and free-arm roles. With Brother, it allows twin needles to be inserted at a time while Singer allows 1 needle capacity with 3 different positions. The Singer is also known for its automatic threading system while Brother is manual. If you are a beginner, you might want to get the Brother since it offers speed control variations according to your preference while Singer allows you to stitch 110 stitches per minute which is a few numbers higher than what Brother can stitch.
