I really dig all of the tutorial videos, you've really inspired me to pick up a sewing machine and starting to tailor my own clothes. Thanks for creating such great content, great channel!
Love ur videos❤Due to the pandemic I was sewing face masks by hand and after I had made a couple hundred my hands were done! I have rheumatoid arthritis so it was bad.i decided to look for second hand machines because I'm on limited income. I got a nice singer and I've NEVER used a sewing machine in my life!! Lol I'm loving it and learning ALOT! I am greatful for this review and all ur tips!! Ty and God bless
You are damn inspiring and a ball of enthusiasm! I watched this video last night when I found myself jumping down the rabbit hole in DIY Tailoring. Now the day after this Brother ST371HD is sitting in my Amazon Cart. Will finalize and hit the button later when I get home and can finalize review everything. The rabbit hole is now seeming less endless.
I realize this is coming two years late but after watching this review (and a few of your other tailoring videos), I was so inspired to start tailoring that I just purchased this same machine off FB for $80. Found it Wednesday, purchased it today.
My 40 year old Singer (I am not an affiliate) died and cannot be repaired, so this is a helpful report on the machine I am planning to buy. I love that it has just enough of the comfortable features of the one I was so attached to, but some of the upgrades seem to be excellent! Plus, your video gave me some laughs! Thanks!
Have to agree with the Brother recommendation, mine is a different model but they are extremely good value and a complete novice like me was able to set it up and get going in no time quickly on my way to ruining a bunch of shirts before I figured out what I was doing (The learning curve was Real).
Im about 4 years late 😅 but im interested in getting into sewing since Ive seen creators recreate fast fashion looks! This review helped and I think this is the machine for me❤
So excited to see this review! Never sewn before and bought this machine. It arrived last week and I taught myself to thread it and do a basic stitch. Looking forward to your other videos!
I use the Janome Magnolia 7330. Thinking about get the Janome 8077 as a second machine. I'm so lazy, I feel like if I could just sew on one machine and do the overlock stitch and bobbins on the other, I'd be more inclined to sew more. Let me just say, I am IN LOVE with the overlock stitch and refuse to get another machine without it. Best thing next to having a serger and I feel more confident I won't muck it up like I would a regular zigzag stitch. Good luck recovering your feet. Congrats on the new machine!
Nice work. Great attitude. I am surprised this model has the thread spool laying on it’s side. I was about ready to buy a brother a few steps down from this but decided to go with this model. Thanks for the video. BTW I hide my new boxes until I get a chance to grab all the goodies out of there. I have lost tools from the box throwers! hahaha
Hey D. Your videos are life changing. Seriously. I have been tailoring my dress shirts during the shelter in place due to the pandemic. I'm feeling pretty confident about what I have learned from your videos. Could you please include the tailoring of a basic skirt, like say a pencil skirt in one of your future videos? That would be fantastic. Cheers
Hey that's awesome that you took the plunge! It's addicting isn't it? And tailoring skirts don't really mesh with my audience, but I'm sure there are a ton of other good tutorials out there?
Hey, you should review one of those cheap presser foot sets on Amazon! I saw one on there with 72 feet! I think the set I fell for has 32 or 42. The teflon foot is worthless, but I have yet to try the others... Oh, regarding that teflon foot, I had read that it was good for vinyl and leather. Cheapo didn't cut it. That's where I discovered my other love, the walking foot! Fortunately, it came with my machine. VERY cool
It's been awhile since you posted, but I'll try:) Loved my machine for all of a day as I sewed my 11 yr old girls uniform dresses that didn't come in her size and had her in tears. Anywho, I'm very new to sewing but was determined, however I had 3 needle breaks. I may be able to learn more about that on my own, but am wondering why the auto thread feature isn't threading my needle all of a sudden. Same needle and same thread that came aloose after her last dress. Any tip or work around would be appreciated bc I was on my way??!! Thank you in advance
Sorry to hear that, thats gotta be super frustrating! As far as the auto thread feature goes, I honestly just thread it manually every single time for reasons like that!
I read in Amazon reviews just now that internal gears are plastic, not metal. I wonder if that's easy information to find about machines in general. I saw White 742 old machine being sold nearby on Facebook marketplace. Probably from 80s. My other option is computerized brother
gonzo garcia If I’m sewing for hours every day I oil once a week, if I haven’t used the machine for a while I’ll oil before I start sewing. I drop the oil onto a cotton bud and apply it that way so there isn’t too much build up. Don’t forget to clean the lint out too, I was having problems with my machine and couldn’t believe it was because of lint build up between the tension discs, I ran a pipe cleaner gently between them and ta-dah!
Can you show how to sew a flat felled seam? All my buttoned downs are constructed with those on the sides, so would like to see how to maintain that same look when taking them in.
there are 4 things that are most important on sweing machine review and nobody covers. 1- how high the foot goes 2-how thick a material/ how many layers can it sew 3- can it sew lether and how many sheets 4-does it have manual speed control to slow it down. the rest is unimportant.
@@StylishDTailors havn't seen a side loader in few decades not sure if they still make them. why would they, these days nobody would by them. on the other hand the singers made 50-60 years ago as i remember dear old mom used was side loader and hand crank and they never had problems and would go through anything.
my wife has a singer promise 1409, she seems to have a heck of a time using it. shes not an expert by any means but i wonder if buying her this one if she'd have an easier, more fun time sewing. or is the current one she has a good one and she should just learn to use it better lol. i know nothing about them but i can't find much online about the singer 1409 and help would be greatly appreciated.
I beg to differ from Stylish D. These machines are crap, with constant tension problems. I've been sewing sixty years and I got totally fed up the first time I used it. I had to make 45 Christmas toys, sewing only 1 layer of cotton fabric with one layer of 100% cotton Low Loft batting. Any machine can handle that, right? Not the Brother. As for that chunk of denim in the video...welllllll. If your wife enjoys re-threading her machine four times a minute and picking out clots of tangled threads, treat her. Otherwise, if you've already bought it, save the box. I didn't unbox mine for six months, and now I'm stuck. This thing is junk, and if you check out other videos, you'll see that the tension is an ongoing problem. Hence, all those refurbs at a "good" price.
@@lucygray6162 thanks for the honest response, I bought a singer heavy duty for her for Christmas. I ended up sending that back before she even used it lol. Turns out she doesn’t care that much about sewing 😂
Stylish D I was thinking of starting my own little business from home making T-shirt’s from scratch and selling them, I’ve never done anything like this before so i don’t know if there’s a profit in it, could I make a decent wage?
@@StylishDTailors ok man no worries thanks for the reply anyway, i reckon i'll give it a go like you say life's too short and it seems like a pretty cheap start up business so not a lot to lose.
@@StylishDTailors thank you very much for letting me know, I cant wait to save up to get started with tailoring, leather crafting, I'm even taking up mens jewelry for myself and I already do my own hair (no offense 😂) all around mens wear and style and your an IMMENSE help in my journey and i thank you please keep making content
Would have been great had you shown the straight stitch lengths and some of the other decorative stitches in contrast color thread. But your vids are superb. Keep em coming. Oh! what mic are you using on your shirt. Thanks.
How how do you make it go so slow?? I can't figure it out with my st371hd machine. Maybe I just don't know how to press the foot pedal lightly but how? How do you go that slow
@@StylishDTailors thank you. It turned out the wattage in the country I'm in is a lot higher than what the machine is designed for so it ran like it was on steroids no matter how lightly I pressed it 😂🤦 now with the proper wattage I can get it to go slow by pressing lightly.
I’m having NO LUCK getting the buttonhole foot function to work. Can you (or anyone) please help me out? I don’t know if it’s the foot or the user, but I can’t get it to work. I’m begging!!!!!
An Audi? 😂 Just got one and I already broke a needle testing it on denim. Doesn’t change the fact that it works great. Just got to take it slow over some areas, the hem over hem over hem. Jk.
You must have gotten lucky with your machine (maybe). That pink fabric does NOT have a straight, even line. It's a mess. My Brother S & T is a piece of junk. Used it one time and put it on a shelf. Very disappointed because I wanted a portable. Now I'm back to my 65 year old White. She is a queen, and sews ANYthing.
