    Good spokesperson and Brand Advocate, a solid educational demonstration, with beard & stickers, but it's been 4 years, time for a Brother TS-tough and strong new model update, even with 300+ comments and 82K views!

    I was introduced to your channel with the review of this Bother machine. I don't get to say this often, but you are a very gifted teacher. You carried through each step so calmly and never missed a beat. I love how you explained everything as if I was sitting there watching you. Though I have some experience sewing, there is always so much to learn, So. I will be watching more of your videos for sure. I keep thinking you would be an excellent teacher in an actual beginners class (not on YTube), they would learn so much from you.

    You’ve got good speaking skills.clear vocabulary, use of nouns. (Pronouns aren’t good: this, that ?). Camera work is good also. Enjoy watching out of curiosity. 75 yr old, sewn since I was ten. Own many machines. The new ones are fantastic: threader, thread cutter, etc. discovered Brother. Did most of my sewing on an Elna Super bought in 70’s, still my favorite. But now you can easily embroider and Brother is bang for buck and easy to learn using. Most machines are now made in the far east.regarding sewing through leather check needle type and thread weight. Interested in you sewing history-journey. Thanks!

    I had a Brother machine for 40 years and I called it my workhorse. I thought it was time for a change, bought a different brand. Disappointed. Since I sew a great deal of fleece, I took a look at Brother machines again, this time heavy duty. I purchased one from Amazon and then looked for a video to help me understand it. I came across you and instantly saw that I could learn from you. Two things: Are you a Packer fan? And you DO have a thread cutter! :}

    Great tutorial/review. I haven't sewn anything in a couple of decades and recently out of necessity I needed to make some masks for my family and I. So I busted out the old sewing machine (it is very basic and quite old but a good one to learn on - Kenmore 385). I had to shake off the rust but as soon as I became comfortable it was so much fun and so rewarding. My five year old daughter didn't know her dad could sew and as soon as she saw me at the machine she wanted doll sheet sets, pillows, a cape, etc.. I found your channel, subscribed, and watched a couple of videos and saw this series on the Brother machine. Anyway long story short I ordered a Brother ST150HDH today from the Brother website. I figured it would be a good all around workhorse machine. Hopefully it will get here soon. In the meantime I look forward to binge watching your videos - thanks and keep it up.

    Thanks. The one that I just purchased is the LX3817. Basically, I just wanted to be able to do my own alterations. And the 83.18 dollar price at Walmart, including tax, was STILL a lot less than the price that tailor shops wanted to charge, for altering a bunch of work uniforms. But the fact that you can sew LEATHER with these, is impressive. Because I am into knife making. And every knife needs a leather sheaf. Keep up the good work!

    Hey Tock, we were talking about this a few months back when i was trying to find a similar model in the UK. That never worked out and eventually i went down a different route and asked a secondhand dealer about simple and rugged machine that would be good for a beginner. Long story short but i got a Frister & Rossman machine and i'm just starting to learn how to use it. I'm enjoying your new video's too as i'm going back over a lot of things i looked at. Thank you for this review of the Brother Strong & Tough ST150HDH machine. For the first time in all my years of sewing and crafting, I now have a craft room. When my son moved from my nest. I bought myself a brand new Brother S&T 150HDH. I have been looking for something well made but industrial machines were just out of my reach. I wasn't sure if this machine could handle heavy jobs so I have been waiting to open the box and get it out in case I found a good used industrial machine. I found you channel and watched you test it out. I was amazed! So it now sits on my sewing table ready to use. After what you put through it, I now know it will be an awesome addition to my craft room. TFS!!! New subbie too!

I am trying to learn with her a bit. What I struggle to get a better handle on is threads, thickness of threads, types, etc. I was wondering if you had a video that instructs on this, or if you knew anyone in your circles that has done a video? Most of what I find online far too technical. Thanks wither way!

    The other really cool thing is that you are showing that you don’t need a gillion dollar machine to create great stuff. I had a brother SE 425 that I traded up for a Janome embroidery machine and a Juki sewing machine, them totaling about 6k. Other than the larger hoop size on the embroidery machine, not many noticeable differences. Same with the brother serger to my Juki, no noticeable difference except the extra $1,000. Plastic parts? Well, yes, but if something breaks, only $350 to get a new one. If I had to do it again, should have stuck with brother, brother!

    Hello Tock, I just discovered your videos and I love your approach to the craft. I also love your review of this machine so much that I just ordered one for myself 😊 I'm a big fan of Brother, I have the Dreamweaver XE and the Project Runway machines but they can't handle 16 layers of cotton duck!! Unbelievable! I should have the machine in about a week. After watching your hoodie video, I've decided to give it a try, next project. Looking forward to see what you create with the heavy duty ✌

    Thank you for sharing your review of this amazing Brother machine. I thought I would add that since there are so many different kinds of machines out there and people have not been sewing for some time as it has become a dying art, most do not know that the bobbins are different. I took a look at a friends machine for her and she had an old metal one in it and didn't know why she had big problems. Would this machine use the SA-156 as a lot of newer Brothers do now? I have just ordered this machine off Amazon after reviewing your video a few times but missed your link. Sorry!!

    • @TockCustom
      @TockCustom  4 года назад

      I forget the name of the bobbins this machine uses - but yes, they're just the standard clear plastic bobbins (not the rounded edge ones, the flat top/bottom ones)
      Also I think the machine comes with like 8 of them, so you should be fine :)

    Thank you for posting this video. I’ve been waiting for a review on this new Brother machine for a few months. It is really impressive it can sew through leather. Which type of thread did you use when sewing through leather? Was it bonded nylon?

    i really appreciate your videos . i bought a st150hdh because of the videos . i can fumble through what i need to for basic straps but trying to improve , when i do a box stitch on webbing the top looks fine but the other side is a mess . why is that underside bunching up so much ? which setting can i play with to make this more presentable?

  • @JohnDoe-bf1fw
    @JohnDoe-bf1fw 3 года назад +1

    Here is my opinion of the Brother ST150HDH: I made 7 button up shirts with this machine.
    This machine has trouble in tight areas that contain several layers of fabric. For example sewing a hem that goes through a flat felled seem will be a trouble spot. Another area that this machine has trouble is the ends of where a shirt collar attaches to the bodice and the ends where cuffs attach to the sleeves.
    For fabric below 5oz per yard the machine generally works ok except for the trouble I mentioned above. I also made a heavier chambray shirt. For this the machine also generally worked ok, but it messed up a seem that I had to go over again, but eventually fixed it.
    I suggest if you are seriously into sewing. Use the Brother ST150HDH primarily for button holes and zig zag stitches. For your straight stitch get an industrial Juki DDL 8700. The Juki 8700 is only $799 and it has servo motor that is larger than the Brother ST150HDH.

    • @TockCustom
      @TockCustom  3 года назад

      I support this comment for sure. I would recommend switching to a smaller needle for those problem areas, but an entry level Juki can easily fill that gap if people are into having multiple machines 😀

    • @JohnDoe-bf1fw
      @JohnDoe-bf1fw 3 года назад

      @@TockCustom Thanks, I'll try switching to a smaller needle on the problem areas. I have been using 110/18 for everything. I plan on getting the industrial Juki in the near future. I want make things like jean jackets. Happy Sewing, Rob

    Tock do you have any thoughts on mechanical vs computerized sewing machines? (I’m trying to decide between this and their HD mechanical one ST371.) I’ve sewed a bit before but always stopped because of the old machine having issues. I want one thats dependable, and it scares me that computerized machines might cost more to get fixed. Love your videos!!

    Hi Tok! I’m new to sewing and know absolutely nothing about sewing until I saw your video and bought the brother st150hd based on your video. I love this machine so far. I’ve been using the machine for about a month now and recently I have been experiencing the bottom thread (bobbins) getting multiple threading (not sure if I am explaining it correctly). It gets tangled and I have to cut the thread and end up wasting a lot of thread as it gets tangled. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

      Hey, thank you for the comment! I just put out a video on machine maintenance that covers how to avoid thread knots and stuff. Hopefully that helps a bit. Hi Tock, Thanks for sharing this vid. I'm curious how this compares to the other Brother machines you have. Is it a stronger motor? Would you say it has a stronger needle punching power but is that because of the gearing or motor? This is not explained anywhere in the manufacture info. What's in the specs that make it HD? Thanks again for sharing this review.

    How about the work space? Usually a heavy duty machine will have a little more space on the right hand side. Will you have to fold your work for some seams?

    • @TockCustom
      @TockCustom  4 года назад

      Yeah, this is not a long arm machine, but that helps keep the price much lower. If you were doing an upholstery job, you should have enough room to roll up the material as needed. I haven't had any issues with it so far :)
